7/24/26 lunch menu
Mike C.

It's been a while. I actually came here for dinner a couple years ago after taking a long gap after the world changed in 2020. They stopped serving lunch, a rotational place for business lunches and when entertaining visiting friends. I noticed a sign a few weeks ago that they started serving lunch again (started in April, as told by our waiter). I was happy that this is now an option for these lunches again. In studying the menu, the selection hasn't changed much though it is pared down a bit with a few of my favorite appetizers gone (shishito peppers). My go-to in the past was the business set lunch, still available and what I ordered on two business lunches on consecutive Fridays. It comes with choices for a two-course meal, not counting the provide bowl of miso soup (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=48&select=oIkVbbqPY0HWG9y3YbriEA) and a bowl of rice. Here's what I had: a. Yellowtail sashimi (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=rSCkN5J6l_tJ419JdnxrUg) with shallots and poached garlic ponzu - This is as I remember and a great start to this meal. b., 1st visit NY strip steak (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=4TTrlrBTj60xo_ejeBNg7A), medium rare, with sauteed Japanese mushrooms - I don't recall whether this was Wagyu or not prior to Covid but, with inflation since that time, it's still a pretty good deal at this price. It was hearty and the mushrooms were a good complement along with the bowl of rice. b., 2nd visit Black cod (4 oz) with mixed green salad - Sorry as the conversation was serious so I forgot to take a photo. I passed on this on my 1st meal but knew it would be my 2nd entree here. It was miso marinated with the meat being tender and flavorful. Again, great with rice. Do pay attention for bones (they are larger) as I got two on my piece. Shared dishes: a. Sweet corn with soy garlic butter (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=Fviru3AbJYA_41PQ8geaTg) - There are four to an order so one diner had an extra cob. The portions are perfect as a pre-meal or accompanying bite for our meals. We had this both lunches. b. Crispy brussel sprouts with mustard and bonito flakes (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&start=48&select=yUjFMqXOxfF-UyYN6ltybw) - We had this on our 1st lunch and, again, a nice dish to mix with rice. c. Salmon tataki (4 pc) with brown butter ponzu (https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?userid=saJuyv784apZzH--psHZ3Q&select=I18uKPl-QG0wVQrUUWAglQ) - A lighter shared dish where the ponzu didn't overpower the salmon. On our first visit, there was one large table near the entrance occupied and scattering of tables with two diners. The following week, the dining room was about 2/3rd full and there were two waiters manning the dining room. Our waiters, two different ones for each lunch, were very professional and cordial. With the neighborhood offices filling up with workers onsite, the return of lunch service makes sense. Looking forward to dining here again.

We had a stellar dinner evening at this restaurant. It was recommended by some friends and it lived up to the hype. We initially went for the pre-set menu ($90 per head and includes steaks and sashimi etc) but after looking at the amazing options on the menu we decided to order a la carte and that was the best decision. There were 4 of us so we could sample a wider variety of items and each and every thing we ordered was flavorful, fresh, presented well, good portions and filling. We got the yellowtail sashimi, sashimi tacos, shishito peppers, wagyu dumplings, grilled octopus, shrimp tempura, Australian steak, hamachi serrano roll, seared salmon roll and for dessert we had cheesecake and chocolate cake. Each and every thing we ordered was fantastic and the total came to what the pre set menu would have cost us but we got to try a wider variety of dishes. The service was friendly, knowledgeable and prompt. They also paired - mix and matched the dishes for us and spaced them out so everything came in pairs that went well together. Overall we had an amazing dinner evening here and will definitely come back.

We felt like VIPs tonight - the food and service were exceptional! Our family guests who visited this restaurant for the first time were impressed with the large open kitchen where you can see what food are being prepared and served. It helps that we had a table right in the center facing the kitchen. Our guests enjoyed all the food ordered including Wagyu steak with bone marrow, the lobster, black cod, sushi rolls, nigiri, yellowtail appetizer, beef dumpling, warm chocolate lava cake. We even got a panna cotta on the house! I liked that the restaurant now pays attention to the ordering of the dishes served - all the sushi and cold items came first, and then the hot protein. The only thing that deters us from going more often is the price - the 5% sf health mandate fee plus tax and 20% tips means you are adding 35% on top of the menu prices. Before inflation hit this high it was more like a restaurant we can enjoy once a month. Now it's become a restaurant for once every six months.

My wife and I had our anniversary dinner at Roka Akor and overall we had a good experience, but, for us, it didn't quite feel like the fine dining experience you'd expect for the price point. The service was decent, but nothing special and felt distant. While they wished us happy anniversary, there was no complimentary dessert, glass wine, decoration, etc. Which is okay, some places do and some don't. We ordered a couple of appetizers, a carafe of sake, and a couple of entrees and there was some difficulty and confusion with the order in which the dishes came out, which wasn't a big deal, just as little out of sync with the meal. The appetizers were great, I had the edamame which were perfectly cooked and salted, and my wife loved her rolls and sushi. My steak was beautiful, the presentation was immaculate, and the garnishes were delicious and overall tasted good, but there was something about the combination or maybe the chimichirri sauce that didn't quite hit as there was no high note, just a good baseline steak. I also ordered the sweet corn and that was simply amazing, the flavors were outstanding and utterly delicious. Overall a good dinner, but it didn't really feel like a $300 experience. I probably wouldn't return at that value.

Made a reservation for the bar area for happy hour and had a wonderful time. We ordered almost all the appetizers and added on the yuzu marinated black cod from the regular menu. The cod and oysters were my favorites of the night! Would love to come back and try more of the main menu.

Came here for happy hour and it was so worth it. We tried almost everything on the happy hour food menu, and everything was well portioned and under $10. Beer was $5 and cocktails were $12. The cocktails were quite yummy. Karaage 6/10- chicken was good, but sauce was too smoky for me Fried ika 9.5/10- the sauce was amazing and we pretty much used the sauce for everything else Sashimi taco 5/10- a little bland, could use more acidity Wagyu kimchi dumpling 7/10- it was good but I couldn't taste the kimchi Edamame- regular one is much better than spicy! Truffle parmesan fries 9/10- honestly can't go wrong with truffle fries But the best dish of the night was actually one of the main courses on the standard dinner menu - yuzu miso marinated black cod. It was soo flaky and tender and the sauce was amazing. A good date spot with the dim lighting for anyone looking to enjoy moderately priced happy hour.

Roka Akor Omakase*

Labor Day weekend in SF had us craving sushi and maybe a steak because apparently we couldn't make up our minds. So we landed here, and judging by how packed it was, we knew we were probably in the right place. There wasn't any openings in the dining room so only choice was patio(it was a cold night), the hostess graciously accepted our request to sit inside with only a short 10 minute wait. The restaurant is pretty. With so many options on the menu, we decided to let the chef do the work and went with the omakase. And wow, this was way more food than we expected! Course after course kept coming, and for the price, the value was honestly impressive. $158/per person. Everything was fresh, delicious, and thoughtfully prepared. Service was also fantastic, friendly, attentive, and never felt rushed despite how busy the restaurant was. Definitely a fun find while visiting SF. Come hungry if you're doing the omakase because you're going to need the room!

Unfortunately I have to take out one star from my favorite restaurant. I went there almost every year on my birthday because Roka Akor is my favorite restaurant. This year is no exception. But things changed. We made a reservation for downstairs and they first want to put us next to a group of 12+young people. They were also celebrating birthday and they were loud. Nothing wrong but with other empty seats, I was shocked for the arrangement. Luckily I asked if we could have another table. Last year, at least there was a card on the table to acknowledge birthday celebration, nothing this year. Server seems to be very busy and pay minimum attention to us. They definitely got more business compared to before. Service was very minimal and sometimes I feel like the rush. Food was still amazing. Tried the salmon this time. Not my favorite but still tasted good.

HH Calamari, karaage, edamame, fries

Went for HH with a friend and we ordered 1 of everything on the HH menu. Our favorites were the hand rolls specifically the hamachi Serrano one. We were least impressed with the gyoza and the edamame (spicy one). We sat downstairs so the vibes were vibey. Everyone was friendly and it wasn't too noise to hear each other. We did get one off HH menu item. The cheesecake which was delicious. Overall good HH spot but Would skip a few items next time. We were stuffed!

My wife and I had a double date at Roka Akor on a Wednesday evening and we were able to get seated without a reservation at around 6:30 p.m. About an hour into our meal, most of the empty tables had disappeared so I would definitely come with a reservation if you're stopping by on a busy Friday evening. Between the four of us, we ordered the yellowtail sashimi, Japanese style fried chicken, chef's selection of seven sashimi, a Wagyu New York strip with mushroom ponzu butter sauce, a yuzu miso marinated black cod, a side of bone marrow with sweet garlic soy and a Japanese mushroom rice hot pot. Before jumping into the food, I wanted to quickly call out some highlights from our service for the night. I thought the pacing of the dishes was good, it was thoughtful that our server had written down which specific seat ordered which cocktail, I appreciate that our waiter waited for our last guest to arrive before going over the menu, and I liked that we received clean plates at some point during the meal, and the table was cleaned off before dessert. The small details matter! Of the dishes we ordered, the miso marinated black cod was by far my favorite dish. Compared to the cod at Nobu, the one here is not as sweet, nor as charred, but that's not a knock at all -- it's just different. The flakiness of the fish really demonstrates how carefully and skillfully the fish had been prepared and cooked. If there's one dish you have to order while you're here, it has to be the fish. Another item I really enjoyed was the Japanese style fried chicken. This item reminded me of really well-made popcorn chicken: the thigh meat was tender and juicy, the pieces were lightly battered yet still really crispy, and the chicken was well-seasoned. I thought the weakest dish was actually the most expensive dish: the Wagyu New York. The steak was cooked nicely and I enjoyed the mushrooms that were garnished on top, but the ponzu butter sauce was a bit lacking -- a lot lighter than I thought, and the entire dish desperately needed some finishing salt. From the small dessert menu, the only item that caught our group's attention was the Japanese style strawberry cheesecake. Unfortunately, this cheesecake was a miss for everyone in the group, leaving our last bites a bit disappointing. The cheesecake had a texture that was spongy and almost too soft, almost similar to what you'd experience biting into a soaked strawberry shortcake dessert. Overall, Roka Akor had some hits and some misses. If you're in charge of booking a large corporate dinner, Roka Akor definitely fits the bill, since we say many such groups here during our time here. If you're looking for an intimate date night, you also might want to look elsewhere, since the volume here gets uncomfortably loud to talk without having to yell a bit. However, if you're looking for a spot to fill that very niche mid-week splurge with friends or co-workers, Roka Akor is a good option.

One of the best happy hour spots! Drinks are delicious, food is amazing, and atmosphere is classy. My favorite is the crispy sashimi tacos, I could eat like 6 of those myself. The wagyu dumplings were meaty and tasty. The hand rolls were full of fish and so worth it during happy hour. Our server was covering tables and the bar and did his best to attend to everyone tonight.

Came during SF restaurant week for a girl's night. Beautiful restaurant with dark lighting. We had reservations and it is recommended. We were seated fine and our tab,e was downstairs. On the pricey side for what you get. Food was okay, but nothing really stood out. Cocktails sounded good, but we opted for the mocktails. Very nice!

Fried shrimp and spicy tuna; hamachi Serrano chili
Luciano Z.

Came to Roma Akor to grab dinner with a friend who said nothing but good things about it and I wasn't disappointed. They have plenty of seating but be sure to make a resy. We mostly tried the seafood but the meat entrees also looked yummy. Started off with the crispy rice with spicy tuna tartar and Japanese style fried chicken with smoked aioli for the apps. They both were delicious and the perfect way to start our meal. For the mains we shared a couple rolls. Their signature is the hamachi Serrano chili and it wasn't too spicy. The hamachi was super fresh and tasty alongside the chilis. We also got the fried shrimp and spicy tuna role which was a favorite of ours. The unagi sauce to pair with the spicy tuna was a ten out of ten.

After a long time without dinner, I was absolutely craving French fries. The crinkle-cut fries arrived perfectly golden and salty. We also ordered the bone marrow--rich, savory, and buttery.
