I'm not going to lie, after several trips for a basic cheese pizza for a last minute dinner for the kids after traveling, I have to say this place is not bad at all. Is it the best NY slice? Not at all. But in a pinch it's a great option. Prices are fair, and the staff is super friendly. Solid option for the Pratt students for a cheap dinner close by campus. Basic table and chairs setup inside, and boxes spilling into the dining area, so definitely not a date spot. It does get super busy inside though which means it can't be too bad! I do think Luigi's a few blocks up is a bit better (maybe), but not by much, and if you're willing to pay and wait for delivery Rosa's in Williamsburg on Manhattan Ave is one of my top NY style slice shops that delivers to Clinton hill. read more

I've long been partial to a couple of other pizzerias in the neighborhood, but I've got to give these folks their due. This is a classic New York pizzeria in look and style and--most importantly--taste. Pizza is classic and very tasty. Booths are old fashioned and quaint for hanging out--they even have fountain sodas and--if you have room after you slices--quality Italian ices and a few flavors of ice cream. The pizza is always hot, fresh, and tasty, and the workers are nice as well. This time was different, but not in a bad way. Oh no, in an amazing way. Allow me to elucidate. I visited Liberty at 2:03 pm as I always do, on a Wednesday- not on my usual Mondays. I felt called to enter the building that day- you will soon see why. I order my usual and as I am waiting- I think. I am currently employed as a gym teacher, not a public but a catholic school. I remember my youth. From 3rd grade on up until I graduated, I attended Catholic school myself. I had never found myself drawn to the Faith as a child, of course I attended mass- but that was required of me. Never forced, but I never had a connection to Jesus in my time there. However, there was a moment in my sophomore year of high school we were visited by a priest from the diocese. He told us about his life and situation. In the back of my mind, a voice called to me- what if I became a priest? I toyed with the possibility, but ultimately tucked it deep away. The nagging feeling in me persisted silently. My two beautiful slices came, and I sat down to eat them. I finish my buffalo slice, which was delectable and move to my pepperoni. That's when I see him. In a bubble of the dough on my slice, the image of Jesus appeared before me, cooked into the crust. Jesus looked at me, his eyes beautiful and shining, a soft smile on his lips as if to say "my child, it is alright. Come home." I broke down into tears almost immediately. I have done many bad things in my life, after the affair and the divorce I was left alone with my consequences. Through teary eyes I look at Jesus and nod. I know my path now, to reenter the Faith, to return as the wounded lamb on his proud Shepard's back. He did not leave me behind- I was ignorant to ignore him. I felt compelled to consume the piece, hearing his voice in me saying "my son, this is my body which I have given up for you, take part of it." and not hesitating, I ate the slice. He is with me forever, and he has never left. In the time I am writing this, I have quit my job and I am already contacting my local diocese. DON'T order from these guys!!!!! Horror story, below :( The last time I ordered from Liberty Pizza, the top of the pizza box was covered in tomato sauce and all the cheese from my 18" pizza had slid to one side of the box. I gave them the benefit of the doubt and didn't ask for a replacement or refund, opting to feed it to some very displeased family members instead. This time around I kept the order small, a calzone, as to avoid something like that happening again... Yikes. The first thing I noticed was that the paper bag was soaked with tomato sauce. The next thing I noticed was that the aluminum foil which housed the calzone had been entirely unwrapped and there were distinct fingerprints where someone had ripped my calzone half the way apart with their bare hands as well as the open (and empty) container of tomato sauce. So I did what any logical person would do and took photos of my order as well as contacted Grubhub for either a replacement or a refund. Grubhub contacted Liberty Pizza. Liberty pizza said they were sorry for the open sauce and that my calzone had been cut in half (it hadn't). They also told Grubhub they were refusing to issue me a refund or replace my calzone. What happened next blew my mind--Grubhub, too, was refusing to provide me a refund. Apparently, the calzone could've been rolled into a giant ball with bites taken out of it and they still would've have issued a refund because "Grubhub doesn't do refunds." I asked if Grubhub was going to consider banning Liberty Pizza from using its delivery device and the customer service representative said he'd consider it (clearly bullshit). I asked if they would like my photos as evidence and he said that wasn't necessary. Horrible experience all around. Moral of the story: Avoid at all costs delivery from Liberty Pizza and don't order through Grubhub if you want the option of a refund. They won't give it to you. read more

We saw Liberty on Seamless and went to yelp to get a better sense. We read Jeffrey's review and were a little concerned, but we decided to bet *our* "hard earned money" on a Liberty pizza. We also wanted half our pizza with green peppers and onions (since my girlfriend is vegetarian, and my friend Kamran wanted some slices with just cheese). We came across the same menu that Jeffrey did, so we weren't sure what would happen. We ordered a large (18") cheese pizza (whole) with onions and green peppers (left side) and no extra toppings (right side), and crossed our fingers. Kamran wanted a root beer, but after checking both the 12 oz can and 20 oz bottle options, root beer was not available, so we didn't get root beer. The delivery estimate was 10:05-10:15, so we were pleasantly surprised when the buzzer rang *EARLY* at 10:13pm! The delivery man was very courteous and patient as I came downstairs to get the pizza. The pizza was still hot and the slices were big. The onions were great. The green peppers were great. The cheese was well distributed and slightly rubbery, but great. One of the slices had an irregular cut line, where the slice met the crust, which was confusing, but still great. If I had one complaint, it was that the peppers and onions (which were meant to be on the left side) were on the top. Also, the little pizza table was off center. After reading Jeffrey's review, we felt like as though we had ordered sewage, but then they delivered us a pizza. In other words, we were happy. This pizza place is one of the most disgusting places in Clinton Hill at 482 Myrtle Ave. I don't eat pizza. However, I had a taste for fries. The owner was disrespectful. I don't know what was going on with him. His behavior to me was all wrong. I have to pull out the race card because he was downright Jim Crow 1950s get to the back of the bus nasty. We found Liberty via Seamless, where upon viewing the menu, we were delighted to see that they allowed ordering toppings on specific halves of your pizza. That meant I could have pepperoni on my half (which my wife doesn't eat) and tomatoes on my wife's half (which I didn't want), while still both getting our mushrooms and green peppers, without having to order two pizzas. We duly selected "Mushrooms (whole pizza)" and "Green peppers (whole pizza)" from the section of the menu entitled "Toppings (whole pizza)," then "Pepperoni (left half)" from the section of the menu entitled "Toppings (left half)," then "Tomatoes (right half)" from the section of the menu entitled "Toppings (right half)." Given how well the menu was laid out, that should have gone rather smoothly, don't you think? Unfortunately, when we submitted our order, it apparently printed out at the restaurant like this: "Mushrooms, Green peppers, Pepperoni (left half), Tomatoes (right half)." The morons at Liberty who provided their menu and instructions to Seamless didn't stop to think that it might be helpful to specify "whole" with toppings that should be on the whole pizza, or perhaps not have the toppings print out in sentence (rather than list) format, or both. So when we received our pizza, it had the first three toppings on the left half only, and tomatoes on the right half only. In addition, we ordered a 2-liter bottle of Coke, but received Pepsi. You may personally think that's like getting Schweppes Ginger Ale instead of Canada Dry Ginger Ale, but to many if not most people who strongly prefer Coke, it's like ordering wine and receiving sewage. It's not a generic cola and shouldn't be substituted without warning. If you serve Pepsi and not Coke, the menu should say that. If you're out of Coke, call me on the phone and ask me what I want instead. That's how customer service works. On the other hand, at least our thoroughly incorrect order showed up after we'd been waiting 95 minutes, when we'd been told it would take 50. And part of the box had been crushed in transit. So that was awesome. When we called Liberty to complain, they brusquely told us to contact Seamless. Seamless contacted Liberty, and Liberty refused to process a refund because as far as they were concerned, they constructed the pizza the printed order had told them to construct - even though it was their fault the order printed in a way that was easy for their own people to misinterpret. They insisted it was OUR fault for ordering wrong, despite the fact that the menu itself, and what we had selected on our computer screen, could not possibly have been clearer. Eventually we had the charge reversed on our credit card, but it was at our generous credit card company's expense. That's because Liberty once again fought our dispute, and since a service was rendered that sort of vaguely resembled the one that was ordered, they get to keep the money they received. Our credit card wants to keep our business. Liberty obviously doesn't. Is anyone willing to bet their hard-earned money on a pizza to see whether Liberty has fixed the problem with their menu? As long as they keep insisting it's not their fault, and as long as they get to keep your money no matter what they send you, I'll bet they haven't done a damn thing. I'm sure as hell not willing to risk *our* money on it again. There's plenty of good pizza around downtown Brooklyn, but even if there weren't, we wouldn't ever order from Liberty again. read more

Great family owned joint that feels like it's been part of the neighborhood forever. After meeting Hamdy, the owner it was easy to see why they've been slinging pies for over 30 years!!! My family and I were visiting with some out of town friends and we couldn't have asked for a better "real Brooklyn pizza" experience! Pretty standard pizza. I ordered a large mushroom pie from Liberty Pizzeria for dinner on Sunday since my usual delivery place closes early on Sundays. The ingredients weren't particularly unique, but there also wasn't anything wrong with it - just the right amount of cheese and sauce and the mushrooms didn't taste over- or under-cooked. It did come a little bit less crispy than I usually like, but in Liberty Pizzeria's defense, I forgot to ask for it to be cooked Well Done. Another good point is the prices are pretty cheap compared to some of the other areas near me. A lot of the similarly priced places come out far worse than here, so that's always a nice bonus. Something interesting I noticed the next day - reheating the pizza was pretty great. I think since it wasn't cooked as crispy as I liked it, when I reheated it with my usual strategy (putting it in the oven on some parchment paper on 375 for 10 minutes), it came out even better than the first time. My girlfriend and I were both really surprised, but also really happy about the revelation. This place has been a late night go-to when I was living in the Pratt dorms. Here are my thoughts: Pros: It isn't a bad slice of pizza. I can't speak for the rest of the menu but the pizza is what I expect typical NY pizza should be. Also, the people who work there are really nice. Liberty is also open two hours later than Luigi's; and for my fellow pratt colleagues, it is also closer to the Willoughby dorms. I also find most of the time the pizza itself is a little less greasy than Luigi's but they each have just about the same amount. (Side-by-side comparison of fresh pepperoni slices) This place also does a good gluten free pizza, which my girlfriend with celiacs can eat without harm. Cons: I find the pizza not to be as good as Luigi's. The fact that I am comparing Liberty to a competing place down the street isn't lookin too good. The interior of the place has no thrills. Personally, it doesn't feel too welcoming. Conclusion: The pizza is good pizza. It isn't great pizza but it isn't bad.
