OH. No wonder everyone talks about this place and loves it so much! Even fairly late on a Sunday…read moreevening, there was a line out the door. But thankfully it was only like five people and I maybe had to wait 5 minutes to place an order. It took me awhile to figure out my slices, but I immediately knew that I wanted that soft serve ice cream. Pistachio swirl?? YES PLEASE. That came out first, unsurprisingly. And I devoured it. Then I got my slices -- the L'Industrie and Mama Pesto. FANTASTIC... though if I was to pick a favorite it would be the first. I would not want to be there after work or during lunch on a weekday, but that was indeed one of the best slices I have had in the city. Pricier than the good old corner $1 classic, but yum.

The burrata prosciutto slice and tartufo slice were both good, ingredients were fresh, but neither…read morewas hot enough or had that wow factor. Both could use a little more flavor to make them stand out more. I really enjoy the variety on the menu and the non classic choices they offer, but it's not somewhere I'll be craving or going out of my way to come back and try more. Lines moved quickly and service was friendly, but the overall flow felt a little off. Orders were being taken faster than pizzas were coming out, and by the time people got their food, there weren't enough clean tables to sit and eat. Saw people waiting around with their pizzas, which by then were probably getting cold. The whole experience could be better but didn't really hit the spot.

Worth the hype! Absolutely insane calzone... That was our must order!!!…read more The pizza is also incredible - you have to try. We had a pizza + a calzone and for 2-3 people this is enough. Reservations were tough (stand in line and then they'll tell you what time to come back) and we got an 830 res. Still one of my favorite pizzas!

Standard-Issue Nostalgia with a Side of Rushed Hospitality…read more If you enjoy paying in time rather than digital convenience, Lucali's reservation process is a masterclass in performative nostalgia. Arriving at 2 PM to stand in a line for two hours just to get on a list for a 7 PM seating doesn't make the place feel exclusive, it makes it feel like a punishment. But hey, we got a table, so the sacrifice was supposed to be worth it. It wasn't. Lucali is BYOB, which is fine in theory. My party brought two bottles of prosecco, fully prepared for a cozy, rustic evening. The server kindly offered to pop the first bottle, then brought out our glassware: heavy, standard water glasses, fresh out of the commercial dishwasher and literally piping hot. There is a special kind of absurdity in pouring crisp, ice-cold prosecco into a glass that feels like it was just pulled from the depths of hell. To top it off, nobody offered to keep our second bottle chilled. Minor detail, sure, but for a place with this level of cult status, the low-effort service immediately set the tone. To give credit where it's due, the ambiance is legitimately cool. It's dimly lit, atmospheric, and feels like step-back-in-time Brooklyn kitchen. Watching the pizza makers roll out dough using empty wine bottles before shoving them into the roaring brick oven gives off that warm, "Nonna's kitchen" charm. You want to love it. Then the food arrives, and the illusion shatters. Our server gave us the bare minimum rundown: "We have pizza, calzones, and tonight's special pasta." Zero detail, zero enthusiasm. We ordered the pizza and the calzone. The pizza was... fine. Completely fine. But calling this the best pizza in New York feels like collective mass delusion. If you've been to L'Industrie or Mama's Too, Lucali isn't even in the same stratosphere. Then came the calzone, which was allegedly stuffed with five cheeses. The server proudly named four, withholding the fifth as a "secret ingredient." A mystery cheese angle might be fun if the calzone blew your mind, but by the time I took a bite, the gimmick just felt tired. It was a perfectly average calzone wrapped in high-end gatekeeping. The grand finale, however, was the absolute kicker. Just under an hour into our meal, after overhearing the hostess realize she'd botched the table rotation, our server came over with an update: they had overbooked and needed our table. Her gracious solution? "You're welcome to pour the rest of your prosecco into your glasses and finish it outside!" The remaining, warm, prosecco that is... Let's recap the math: two hours waiting on a sidewalk at 2 PM, five hours of waiting for the reservation time, warm glasses for cold bubbles, middle-of-the-road pizza, and a boot out the door in under sixty minutes because they messed up their own seating chart. Disgraceful hospitality masked as old-school Brooklyn charm. If you love mediocre food, lukewarm prosecco in burning hot glassware, and being rushed out to the curb, Lucali is waiting for you. As for me, I won't be back.

I was greeted by an angel called Lisa, who was very much giving fairy Godmother of Luigi's pizza. I stumble through my order. I'm confused. I'm asking questions. The whole time Lisa is patient. She's sweet. She's funny. Makes me feel right at home. I asked for one slice of Knicks pizza but I wanted pepperoni on there. They said it didn't come with pepperoni, but the owner was sitting there like "you know what since you asked for it we'll do it for you." It's like I was in heaven and was told Ask and you shall receive, we just want you to be happy! Now, I don't know what sort of crack cocaine they put in this Knicks pizza but it had vodka sauce and ricotta, hot honey olive oil and I think a pesto drizzle. Oh my Jesus Christ this was the best pizza I've ever had in my entire life. Savory, a lil sweet, saucy. Lisa was right, don't need ranch for this at all. Also loved the white pie. I'm so sad because I had to leave New York the next day but days later I am still thinking about this pizza. I am still thinking about sweet Lisa and just how warm and welcomed I was in the few minutes I spent in this restaurant. I'm still thinking about how delicious this slice was!!! I cannot recommend enough, 10 out of 10 you won't regret it. Tell Lisa the girl who asked for ranch and she responded "that's sacrilegious"sent you. I told Lisa I'd leave a good review and she said "we don't care about no reviews we care about getting you fed". Enough said!

I went in with extremely high expectations after seeing Barstool give it a 9.3, which is an incredibly high score. In my opinion, Dave Portnoy has a particular style of pizza that he prefers, and that definitely influences his ratings. Personally, I would not rate this pizza anywhere near a 9.3, especially considering how many great pizza options there are in Brooklyn. That being said, it is still a good slice and worth trying. I just don't think it quite lives up to the hype or the exceptionally high rating it has received.

I've eaten here, come to the Bushwick Block Party to see Action Bronson perform, and spent enough time around Tiki Disco to associate the place with a particularly inventive, free-spirited period in the neighborhood. The dining area still has that wonderfully idiosyncratic character: exposed beams, communal tables, mismatched details, and an open kitchen turning out genuinely excellent pizza. What impresses me most is how naturally Roberta's became more than a restaurant. Food, music, parties, outdoor spaces, and an extraordinary mix of people all seemed to converge here, giving the place a cultural gravity that could never have been designed by committee. It remains one of those places that instantly takes me back to my bachelor years and an especially fun chapter of my time in the city, when Bushwick felt endlessly creative, and Roberta's seemed to sit comfortably at its center. Sending my highest recommendation!

You know how John Travolta strutted in Bay Ridge in the beginning of ' Saturday Night Fever' eating…read moretwo slices of pizza?? Welllll...when I find a great new pizza place, where else, but in Brooklyn!!!( my nabe, babe) I want to strut! Brooklyn D.O. P. *** Is offering delicious pizza for a Brooklyn Pizza snob like myself, lol. Now, what makes a great slice of pizza?? Is it the Cheese? Undercarriage? Crust? Sauce? I hear you thinking.... For me, all of the above!!!! Thus, I strutted into D.O.P. and I was torn between a Bianca slice or Margherita slice, then thought one of each, then " don't drink or drive" or in this case, no mix and match pizza. I went for the Margherita. It was placed in the oven and as a Yelpie, kept busy with photos and post as I waited, the slices were ready. I found my seat, a comfy leather bar stool, and took my first bite.. for myself, THE most important. Welll.. my taste buds strutted!!! The mozzarella, the basil, tomato sauce and the charred crust!!! The undercarriage didn't cave!! I think the menu description does a better job: "DOP. Our original upside-down Margherita is the blueprint: house blend aged mozzarella, fior di latte, and fresh mozzarella, with our bright tomato sauce layered on last to shield the cheese and caramelize under electric heat. Finished with basil, Pantelleria oregano, and extra virgin olive oil. This isn't just a pie-it's our mission statement." I love an open kitchen where the chef can be seen making the good stuff.. as I devoured my slices, I gave him a huge thumbs up! The pizza options are great: Spicy Margherita, Don Vito Grandma, Sicilian and hey, Traditional! They do serve wine and dessert. I loved my experience, the leather bar stools, the service, the music and THE PIZZA! Well, D.O.P. Your pizza is T. D.F. ( To Die For). You are now a member of my top pizza places in Brooklyn. *** Aah you noticed! "DOP: In Brooklyn DOP, this stands for Denominazione di Origine Protetta (Protected Designation of Origin). This is a strict certification in Italy ensuring that culinary products like San Marzano tomatoes or Parmigiano Reggiano are authentically produced in a specific region using traditional methods. The pizzeria uses the name to emphasize its traditional, high-quality, process-driven baking." Brava! Brooklyn D.O. Not sure what the menu currently says, but the menu from just 3 months ago said it's 18% for a party under 6. Maybe they've changed it. Not sure. This is the first restaurant we've been to with 20% auto gratuity for a party under 6. But the borderline dishonest part is that the check that you sign tells you in tiny letters that tip was already added, but has huge font for additional tip and written out tip calculations, so it is very easy to tip 40% without noticing. Sometimes I do tip extra generously, but I don't want to feel like I was tricked into doing it! Looking thru reviews here, I see other people also experienced this, including people in small parties who were locked into the 20% when it should have definitely been 18%. :/ So close to a good experience, but ruined by tricksy billing.
