The missus and I walked in on a non-descript Sunday afternoon for dinner in March 2026 this time, without a reservation, since she was craving jjajangmian. She also ordered a galbi. I ordered the beef soondubu combo with pork bulgogi because y'all know I love my (medium) spicy pork and soup! The service was very courteous and decently fast. It wasn't "busy" but I'd say just over half of the tables had people at them. The ambiance wasn't a Korean soundtrack, but more lo-fi English soft rock? (hard to describe, it wasn't "rock" but it wasn't loud either) at one point I heard Gorillaz - DARE, so take that for what you will. The six appetizers were all decent. I wouldn't say it stood out but they came quickly after we'd ordered. We devoured it since we'd walked around a bunch before deciding to stop in here. The jjajangmian had way too little sauce - it tasted dry. The soft tofu soup was perfectly soft with a tinge of spice, nice. The pork bulgogi was actually tender and not overcooked, cool. Purple rice was... Rice. No notes. The meat quality for the galbi was not the best. Missus also thought the noodles were worse than other places. Price-wise this was a bit more expensive than we expected - since we did have leftovers it's not bad, but... For two people it's higher than other places on the Ave. The bathroom situation: single unisex bathroom, at the back. Customers only (obv). No parking "onsite" - either street parking along the Ave (which is likely tough), or park somewhere near/on UW campus and walk.

At first I thought Palmi sold to a different owner, but couldn't find the entity "Sun Teriyaki" on Yelp, plus the menu looked similar and the owner is still Korean, so I believe they simply rebranded. Note: 120% vegetarian / vegan unfriendly. Oh god where should I start? Flies that fly around indoor even when the doors were always shut, the lingering cigarette smell, the overly sweet teriyaki sauce, the gamey beef (despite the heavy sugary teriyaki sauce), the years-old gyoza, the suspicious dark spots on my raw lettuce salad, or the bland steamed tofu plate that cost no more than $2 to make but they charged $17 for (check out the photo!) ? I've been wanting to check out this place and we finally paid a visit this week. We were the only two people in-shop on a weekday at 6PM, and we soon figured out why. I ordered a teriyaki combo of beef and gyoza, while my partner who's vegetarian got a tofu teriyaki. The owner was considerate enough to clarify with my partner that their default tofu is fried with animal oil. He suggested steamed tofu as a replacement, and my partner happily accepted that. Little did we know, that was a total mistake. It didn't take long for the food to be served, and I was already sus-ed out by the look of it - dark pile of beef strips next to rice and sad looking lettuce salad, plus four gyozas. The sauce was so heavy that it was impossible to tell what the meat was. Then upon first bite I was completely turned off - the teriyaki sauce was overly sweet even by American standard, and salty too. And despite the heavy dressing, the beef still tasted gamey... The gyozas tasted worse than store-bought ones, not much filling and tasted like they've been frozen forever. Oh and this wasn't even the worst part yet... when my partner's food was served, it was even sadder - cubes of steamed tofu (the tofu looked like it was taken right out of store containers, just cut into cubes) laying around next to rice and sad looking salad. Check out the photo for how cheap the dish looked. It came with a dark sauce for seasoning yet the owner told us the sauce was in fact not vegetarian. So my partner had to create his own seasoning of soy sauce and sriracha hot sauce to finish his food. And btw, the sriracha bottle looked quite gross... So yea, my partner paid $17+ to eat cubes of flavorless unseasoned steamed tofu with white rice and pieces of raw lettuce - something we've made many times at home with much better seasoning and taste with the cost of $3 max. This place also has no service. You order at the front, the food gets served, and you need to bus your own table and get your own water. Needless to say, never coming back.

Seattle-Area Boba Shop Review #83…read more I had no idea this location of Mee Sum started as a boba shop and only expanded to food later on. I wouldn't have discounted it so long if I had known! Luckily, we saw it as one of the entries during the recent Boba Fest and decided to stop in for lunch as well. In addition to entrees and drinks, they have a small selection of the baked goods they have at the Pike Place location. It's a good alternative for people who don't want to wait in line. Dine in orders get complimentary bowls of hot and sour soup to start. Popcorn Chicken Meal ($13.50) - This plate includes a large pile of fried popcorn chicken, made of juicy thigh meat, dredged in sweet potato flour, and sprinkled with the fragrant salt, white pepper, and five spice mixture. The meat is very moist, the dredge is very even, and the fry gives only a very light crisp. The powder is very fragrant but the mix they use here seems to have a ton more salt than other places. The chicken comes with a bunch of cabbage with small slices of carrot, stewed in a somewhat savory and salty manner. It's very nicely, lightly flavored and is almost a little buttery. There's a small amount of sweetened marinated salty daikon. There's no daikon flavor but it gives the dish a little more crunch. Finally, there's a mound of perfectly cooked long grain rice, topped by a small bit of braised ground pork. It's nice and flavorful, but a little dried out. (4/5) Deluxe Pork Belly Over Rice ($10.50) - This is a pretty large bowl of rice covered with braised, chopped pork belly ala lu rou fan. Tons of fatty pork belly, braised well and flavorful, but with the sauce being more watery and completely disappearing into the rice. It's surprisingly very thin and not that fatty, so the flavor dissipates too quickly. The pork belly is a little on the dry side with a lot of the moisture having escaped. The dish comes with a hardboiled braised egg that looks super dark like it's been marinating in dark soy sauce for hours. It's cooked well done, but doesn't have any of the green coating on the yolk, which is indicative of an overcooked egg. It's again very flavorful from the time spent in the marinade. Overall, this is an okay lu rou fan. Good enough to satisfy a craving, but pales in comparison to great ones. (4/5) BBQ Pork Hombow ($5.50) - Expensive, but also among the largest char siu buns I've ever seen. Chock filled with sweet and savory meat. It tastes like a bit of shaoxing wine hasn't quite been burned off/evaporated, which gives an off flavor that I don't enjoy that much. The bun is a normal chewy texture. (4/5) Jasmine Milk Tea w/ Brown Sugar Boba ($5) - This was one of the Boba Fest 2025 specials, a premixed drink that comes with brown sugar boba. When I ordered it, I was told that I couldn't adjust the sweetness since the drink was premade. Ominous... Could this be any good? The drink comes out with the classic melted brown sugar swirl. After mixing everything thoroughly, the drink actually isn't too sweet at all - probably equivalent to 25% sweet at most places! Being premixed, I wondered if the drink was perhaps made from powder, especially because I found it to be extremely gritty. And yet the flavor indicates that it's actually brewed tea. It's actually very overbrewed (usually fine for boba drinks), muting the jasmine flower flavors a bit, but also allowing the astringency and bitterness of the green tea leaves to be front and center. It's actually a pretty good tea, but really marred by some grittiness, I guess from the heavy use of non-dairy creamer. The boba is actually very good. Sweetened in brown sugar, smooth spheres that have essentially the perfect chew and bounce. Superb boba, probably in my top 10 around Seattle. Milk Tea Rating: 4/5 Boba Rating: 5/5 Portion sizes are generally very big - we only finished about half the food before having to take the rest home. Although, we were saving room for other food/drinks during Boba Fest, so that might have influenced things a bit. I was very pleasantly surprised, especially by the drinks served by Mee Sum. It went from me not even knowing Mee Sum sold boba, to learning that they actually opened as a boba shop and expanded into food, to finally really enjoying their drinks. My dinner buddy really enjoyed their vegetarian pho broth with tofu and vegetables. They're really generous with the vegetables and have a good variety! There is a pretty significant difference in size between the small and large size pho, and only a dollar difference, so if you're hungry it's worth getting the large. Veggie spring rolls are great, and tofu banh mi is excellent as well.
