I remember coming here as a student and it was like a "bougie" Korean spot, higher prices but also higher quality. Five years later, I have absolutely no idea what happened. The interior got renovated, they don't really have service anymore, so order dine in or take out via the two tablets before getting seated. First impression, presentation of food, and even quality of food have diminished. Employee was nice and friendly, but this place is unfortunately a shadow of it's former self while maintaining higher prices (given the student audience). Chicken Katsu (Golden Crunch Platter) - first impression was wow, there are fries. And then two little kimbap rolls with some tteokbokki. Honestly felt like an assortment of leftovers tossed in with rice, salad, and katsu. Katsu curry sauce was also cold, seemed intentional too, not like it was ever warm and cooled down. This place used to be so good and I would take people all the time. We went this time and were disappointed. Food is low to mid. They started implementing these kiosks where you order, then take a seat and they'll bring the food out to you. Too bad the kiosks ask for tip up front and also add a kiosk fee (based off your total). The kiosks also take up more space. Seafood pancake was good, with lots of seafood- but you pay for it, it's $18.75. Black bean noodle was super watery. This was one of the best places on the Ave for Korean food a few years back -- the yuk gae jang before was a generous portion, lot of meat, pretty authentic (had the traditional bracken root, etc), and had a deep beef flavor. Went on Saturday night to a changed restaurant -- ordering by kiosk was a bit convenient but the yuk gae jang mainly tasted of Korean MSG (dashida). Not much meat as well. Banchan was limited too to basic winter radish kimchi The lady running the restaurant was generous and provided a bowl of rice for free due to a mishap on my table's part mixing up dishes, so credit is given where credit is due. Atmosphere is your typical no frills student restaurant on the Ave. Order at the kiosk, someone brings out the food (minimal service). Based on the food alone though, I probably won't be back :-( read more

One of the many Korean restaurants off of University Way. The interior is more updated than the Korean restaurant next door, and the prices on the menu aren't too bad. I wanted to eat something light so I ordered the Seolleongtang (ox tail soup). This was my first time having it so I didn't really know what to expect. As soon as I started eating, I couldn't help but notice how bland it was. I kind of blame myself though because after eating it I looked up if Seolleongtang was supposed to be like this, and it was. I definitely think it's just me not liking the dish in general. I'm sure The BoB has some other great dishes I have yet to try, so I'll have to go back again and try something else. But then again their banchan/side dishes weren't that great too. The broccoli isn't very appetising and the fish cake was very off-putting. I added seafood to mine, which they did a good job of incorporating, but it didn't taste the most fresh. My partner and I both tasted the BibimBoB and it was pretty average. Nothing to rave about. The banchan comes in a set of 4 and they were all pretty good. Overall, you can't beat the price for what you get. I'm not sure they are that equipped for such a big rush though, there was only one server for the whole restaurant who also seemed to be the busser, and a few of our party had to wait a long time for their dish, Stone Pot BiBim Bap...it was good but they must only have a certain number of stone pots...all of the other food came out promptly. This is stop #3 on my quest to try all the tofu soups in the u district. I was blown away by the BoB! Firstly, you get a quart of soup and a pint of rice for $11!! That's SO generous- especially since the still poached the egg in the takeout container, which the other places hasn't done. Secondly, the broth was super flavorful, and the veggie soft tofu soup had a TON of veggies added. You don't miss the meat! It was a mild/medium amount of spice - enough to be flavorful without being painful. I also got the fried dumpling order, which were delicious ly chewy and came with an interesting jalepeno soy sauce. All of the orders were packaged super carefully for takeout and traveled well. The BoB was quite something . Both chaotic and casually comforting all at once. The food, before I start was very delicious, I had the Beef Bibimbap Dolsot so stove pot and it was really good. If you press the rice down after mixing everything together, you will get that crunchy rice taste which is just everything honestly. It came with 3 side dishes and one of them, the Kimchi was fermented very well, I think it was the best kimchi I've ever had--very fresh! The service, this is where it was really funny for me, was something. I came with a party of 8 and we all ordered. I ordered the Bibimbap Dolsot but with chicken instead of beef and the waiter must have gotten them mixed up considering there were so many of us in such a small interior so when he brought the beef, a friend of mine tells him I got the chicken instead. I was planning on telling him that its fine I can just take it (it was honestly not that deep) he goes "well, somebody ordered it" and goes to set it on the table. I look at my friend sitting across me and the entire table was dead silent for a second. HUHH-LEH-RIOUS. So that is why I am penalizing them 2 stars. I honestly would not go back there just from my personal experience but if you are looking for a Korean restaurant around the ave, go to Bugis, it is just down the block and is much better from what I hear. The interior is was very nice, small as I expected but clean, cozy and perfect lighting. The food took very long but they did just open so they have a lot of customers. This is in my top 2 places to frequent for Korean food mostly because they offer a few dishes that are hard to find in other places: seolleongtang, mul naengmyun, and samgyetang. Now do they prepare any of these dishes the best of the best? No. But they're like better than just meh enough that my Korean food scratch is itched. For example, they don't add pear to the naengmyun which is traditional and one of my favorite parts I normally look forward to in mul naengmyun. And the seolleongtang broth is on the watery side and the meat is sometimes not vetted and you'll get pretty weird textured griselly bits, but overall they get a pass cuz they do a solid job and I can't find anywhere else that does it better or does it at all (without driving all the way to fed way or Lynwood). The servers are mostly all really awkward and quiet college kids too, so don't expect your service experience to be astounding. Also beware they charge a bunch of extra money PER to-go container which I found to be very unusual and surprising to see on my bill the one time I took leftovers home. The BoB is a fast casual Korean restaurant on The Ave. I initially came here expecting to see kimchijigae and katsu dishes on their menu, but there's actually quite a discrepancy between what's on Yelp versus their new menu. Now, they only offer 12 dishes which include dishes like bibimbap, tteokpokki, kalgaksu, etc. They no longer have their katsu dishes nor do they have a lot of the stew or noodle dishes. So be warned - I saw a few groups of people come in only to be disappointed and turning back. I, on the other hand, was not disappointed. I came in for kalgaksu and got my wish - a hot bowl of mussels, shrimp and zucchini with hand-shaven noodles. Yum. I'm definitely coming back to try their other dishes too. read more

In an area that's always seeing restaurants come and go, I'm really hoping this one sticks and flourishes because we can always use more good Korean food. My boyfriend and I visited BoB during the week around 6PM and found the place empty at first. However, it quickly filled up as passerby noticed the menus on the window. BoB features staple Korean dishes from spicy tofu soup (soontofu), bibimbap and more. Asking the owner for her recommendations, we tried the: - Gamja Tang - First time trying individual sized gamja tang! The pork wasn't as "slide off the bone" tender as I wanted, but the broth was still flavorful and spicaaay. I appreciated that they didn't skimp and it wasn't just one pork bone, but there were a few within the soup. - LA Kalbi - The marination was actually pretty tasty - just wish it came on a hot plate to stay warm longer! +1 though for creativity on presentation, haha. Prices seem to be fairly standard for Korean food in the area - looking at the menu, soontofu (spicy tofu soup) was around $10, while the more specialty dishes like the LA Kalbi was $16. Overall, our total came out to $30+, which we thought was fairly normal. We also thought the staff working was friendly, offering a refill on the side dishes when we ran out. We're definitely planning on visiting again, as the owner had mentioned a few more of their popular dishes, like the kalgooksoo and kalbi tang. read more

I was very skeptical to find out that ANOTHER Korean restaurant is replacing Yummy Bites. I don't even know how many Korean restaurants are on the Ave by now. There's one next to it. There's another one across the street. And many more down the Ave. (Yet they still don't have AYCE K-BBQ, but that's another story...) I visited the BoB on its second day of opening last week. By the way, the business was not even on yelp until I manually entered it yesterday and got approved today. Anyways, I was trying to see some reviews on yelp, but the server told me that they are not on yelp yet. He was very happy to provide me recommendations, and was passionate about their food. I love it. We got a Kalbitang (short rib soup) and yukgaejang (spicy beef and vegetable soup). The soup base takes 14 hours to make, and you can taste the delicacy in the soup. Generous portions. Amazing ingredients. Definitely the perfect comfort food for a rainy day in Seattle. Great service. Delicious food. I can see myself come back a lot! And just another random rant (don't take me too seriously), when your food is good, you don't need much effort to attract customers. Later this week when I walked by the BoB, the place was almost full. They were not even on Yelp yet! It's funny and a bit pathetic when other businesses try to manipulate the yelp reviews by having their employees write 5-star reviews (*cough*chiglet*cough*).
