What a delightful place! I stumbled upon this restaurant for my birthday, and I'm glad I did. First off, the exterior and interior are to die for. It's a beautifully renovated home turned restaurant, and you want to stay for hours. The decor is beautiful, and I love all the colors and the homey feel. The food was delicious, and I must return for the dinner menu. I ate lunch and started with the lobster bisque, which I wish was bigger cause it was delicious. I decided on the quiche Lorraine for an entree, which was excellent, and the egg was perfectly fluffy. It had a nice little salad on the side with a flavorful dressing. We added some fries on the side that came with what I believe was a Dijon aïoli, which was a perfect dipper. I would 100% make the trip again to enjoy dinner here. read more

Beautiful restaurant in a residential area off King Street in Saint Aug! It is gorgeous. We can't wait for the weather to cool a little so we can go back and enjoy the outside bar area. The entire design was perfection. You can go dressy or casual. We opted for dressy because we were celebrating our anniversary. Josh provided excellent service. On to the food - we got the trio of pates, split the chèvre salad, duck confit and steak frites along with wine and a Paris-Brest for dessert. Everything was delicious and perfectly cooked. I will say a little more spice on the entrees would go a long way. I know French food isn't typically going to be flavored with spice so probably won't happen but I'm just talking a tad more salt. Pates were delectable and served with marinated apricots and apples. The dessert was the perfect amount of sweet, with a soft yet crisp choux. Exactly as it should be. read more

This is a very special restaurant. My husband booked a reservation for my birthday it was truly a magical dining experience. The restaurant is located in an older home and the ambiance is stunning. The staff were so welcoming and kind and helped us understand the menus and offerings of the evening. The wine list is extensive and impressive and we were able to choose the perfect accompaniment for our meals. The crab cake appetizer was delicious and my quiche entree was perfection. My husband opted for the French onion soup to start and the beef special which he thoroughly enjoyed. We ended our dinner with a blueberry tart and the L'Orange and both desserts were spectacular. Booked our silver anniversary with our family in this fine dining restaurant. We enjoyed the great experience of the bed and breakfast feel as the place is set up in the corner lot with great Victorian architecture details. French style restaurant with a variety of entrees to order. We started with baguettes as starters and enjoyed entrees like Madame Sandwich, Duck Confit, Steak Frites, Filet aux Poivres and Poulet Roti (good portion). Just go. That is all you need to know. Sure, I'll rave about this place but really, that's all you need to know - just get a reservation and enjoy an excellent meal in a wonderful restaurant. Ok, our experience started by arriving early on a clear starry evening and enjoying a glass of wine at the outdoor bar. Once inside, I noted several intentional details about the dining room including velvet curtains and sound attenuating panels camouflaged into the wall decor which made the atmosphere simultaneously intimate and familial. Even the HVAC diffusers were dispersed to (presumably) eliminate breezy hot/cold spots and ensure comfort. Loved the attention to detail. Then the warm staff walked us through the menu, specials and their recommendations. It was a thoughtful, intentional menu that provided several mouth watering options for every palette. We relaxed our way through each delicious course, from salted butter baguettes and lobster bisque (which is the new benchmark by which all lobster bisque's will be judged) to perfect entrees of duck confit and steak au poivre. There are many reasons to revisit St. Augustine but a dinner reservation at La Nouvelle is at the top of our list. Well done. read more

My family went in for lunch and I can say the French onion soup, escargot, crab cake and burger were delicious. The last time my family was in town the restaurant was The Preserve. Now, new owners and new menu. The day was beautiful but the previous restaurant was missed, especially the warm loving service. Our simple lunch took 2.5 hours and the manager did comp a dessert for us but we won't be in a rush to go back. I do think it's worth a try if tasty food is your jam....just don't ask for a bit of butter unless you're ready to pay $4. read more

The pommes aligot, is a traditional French dish with bring mashed potatoes together with cheese, butter, and creamy creating a velvety texture and a comforting balance of boldness from the sauce. The only criticism would be the whole peppercorn was a bit intense in ways taking away from the perfection of flavors on the plate. ---- Dessert - Pot De Crème (dark chocolate, chantilly cream, sea salt): Speechless. That doesn't happen very often. It was pure heaven. The best way I can describe this dish in lament terms is imagine a chocolate mousse coupled with chocolate fudge. Every bite was pure decadence. The chantilly cream's smooth and fluffy texture brings a great balance with every bite of the chocolate and the sea salt flakes adds not only the saltiness but the crunch bringing a dynamic complement of textures and flavors that embodied the entire dish. ---- The restaurant offers both inside and outside spaces that took advantage of the historic elements of the building with a beautiful French flare making it a perfect place for couples, family, friends, and even for business. ----- Stellar. What a quaint, cozy and charming restaurant. Juan, our server, was exceptional - engaging, funny and a pleasure to talk to. The wine list was superb. If you've got money to burn, you can find some bottles close to $1,000. I chose a French white Demi-Boutelle, but sadly cannot remember the name. I believe it was a combination of two grapes. It was excellent - a clean, crisp yet well rounded wine. I don't have a very big appetite so even though I pined to order one of the hors d'oeuvres, lobster bisque, or onion soup, I restrained myself. My husband, though, did order one of his favorites- classic escargot. The buttery, garlicky snails were well executed and the mini baguette was on point. (The bread is shipped in from France!) Dipping the crusty, warm roll in the escargot's juices was epic! For dinner, I ordered the duck confit with grapes and duck fat potatoes. My husband opted for the bouillabaisse, a traditional fish stew with shrimp, lobster, bass, and mussels with a saffron broth. We also ordered a side of frites. I truly enjoyed the meaty duck leg and thigh. It was cooked perfectly, and the sweet sautéed grapes were the perfect pop of sweetness. I wanted to indulge in my duck fat sautéed fingerling potatoes, but my hand continued to wander over to the bowl of pommes frites. The in house made fries were just too addicting. In the end, I wish I had room to indulge in both but alas that would require having another stomach. My husband's stew was good but not great. The broth was very light and tasty, but the lobster was too stringy and chewy. It's best to enjoy this crustacean super fresh. Having lived in New England, where we would buy lobsters literally off the boats that caught them is the only way to guarantee a tender, luscious meat. (And not overcooking them obviously) Shipping them is a delicate and difficult process and I've been told by watermen that "stress" can impact their quality. Anyway, we still thoroughly enjoyed our meals and we would return to sample more of La Nouvelle's menu. read more

All I can say is WOW and maybe a dramatic French chef's kiss! The chef who grew up in France basically teleported the soul of his homeland to St. Augustine. One bite of that cuisine and you are questioning if you are still in Florida or somehow ended up in France. And they have sommelier who is basically a wizard. We knew our anniversary was starting off great! Amelia our server was so kind and attentive, even comped us a few extra oysters which was so sweet! We decided to split a French onion soup which was rich and delicious. Then for our mains I got the Branzinno and my husband got the duck. Wow, just wow. For dessert we had macaroons, a wonderful dessert wine and espresso. Would highly recommend this place. Great staff, food and ambience...10/10 imo! I would love to give La Nouvelle a 5 star rating. Here is why I give it a 4. La Nouvelle is by far the best restaurant in St Augustine. The ambiance, the food/menu, wine selection and staff are all to notch. However, my wife and I enjoyed the magnificent foie gras paté and as a main we ordered the sole. The sole is from Holland and to my opinion the best sole money can buy. But a sole has 4 filets and not 2 monsieur le chef! The portion is just too small for a couvert of 45$ pp. A small portion of Artichokes and 2-3 parts of potatoes, though super tasty, is just not sufficient, looking at the price. I left La Nouvelle with hunger and an unsatisfying feeling. If you change the quantity (and not the quality) you will receive 5 stars next time, as I gave you before. My boyfriend took me here for an early birthday meal, and our expectations were blown out of the water. The atmosphere almost made me feel like I was transported to France upon entrance. It was so quaint and whimsical! Everyone that worked there that we crossed paths with greeted us and told me happy birthday! Our server was very professional and gave us his recommendations for what to order. We eventually both settled on the filet mignon (comes with capers) and potatoes that are cooked in duck fat. The filet mignon was soooo tender (I had mine cooked medium rare) and the potatoes were unbelievably crispy AND simultaneously soft. Lastly, it was my birthday so the server kindly brought out a free dessert (the blueberry tart) and it was BEAUTIFUL! Also tasted amazing. Was sweet but not too sweet, and the inside was a beautiful purple color. My boyfriend also got the lavender crème brûlée and that was one of the best things either of us have ever eaten EVER. If you come here, get the lavender crème brûlée!! The flavor profile is amazing. Not super floral tasting but enough that you know the lavender is the star of the show. She was attentive, helpful, and incredibly friendly. I truly wish I knew enough words to describe how amazing the food was and even if I did know every single word in the english language, I still don't think it would be enough to describe how great the food truly is. Eating the food at this place is so good it will make you want to stand up and give Chef Matthew a hug. This little hole-in-the-wall is a gem in Saint Augustine! It is a historical building that was redesigned into a French restaurant! Our server was personable and convinced us into trying the quiche and let me tell you... one of the best quiches I have ever had. It was the perfect amount of firm yet gelatinous, cheesy, flavorful, and fresh. My group also had the French onion, lobster bisque, quiche, escargot, oysters, baguettes, and the seasonal stewed beef with egg noodles and fresh veggies. All dishes were delicious, and the desserts were fantastic! We tried the macarons, the white chocolate covered mousse, and the delicious lavender crème brûlée. Wonderful place and long-needed in St Augustine. We've been watching eagerly watching the site since it was announced, and finally got to eat there last week. And we came vs I again just a few days later - it's that kind of place. A really nice but at the same time comfortable neighborhood French restaurant with all the French comfort foods. Service is wonderful, friendly but professional and competent, so you're in good hands! And to top it off, they serve through, 11-9:00 pm with the same menu all day (some specials at night). So far, we've had the basic French lunch faves...amazing croque monsieur, great duck rillettes, wonderful baguettes, etc. All excellent with great ingredients. What a fabulous experience!! Highly recommend. I have not been to many places and say "wow" after the first bite. We started off with the escargot and the Patte flight (Chicken, pork & mushroom). Our entrees were the Sole Meunière and Filet Aux Poivre which were absolutely flavorful and amazing. Steak was perfectly cooked. We ended with the Lavendar Creme Brule and macaroons which were also fantastic. Our Waitress Margaret was very patient and knowledgeable in helping with suggestions and answering questions.
