I know everybody seems to be in a frenzy over this Covid situation, but it's very strange to walk into a restaurant and see no one dining. Rather, there are four people getting takeout... . But I digress as the food is the main attraction here at Krachai Thai Kitchen. Their food was expertly prepared and very tasty. Food: - Appetizer combination: 4 pieces of crab rangoons, 4 pieces of cheese wontons, 3 deep fried potstickers, 4 shrimp blanket, and 2 veggie eggrolls. -- Crab rangoons: hardly had any crab (imitation crab). 3/5 -- Cheese wontons: tasted almost exactly the same as the crab rangoons. 3/5 -- Fried potstickers: filled with pork were yummy. 4/5 -- Shrimp blankets: tasty. 4/5 -- Veggie egg rolls: I'm not huge on veggie eggrolls (I prefer meaty eggrolls) but this one had clear noodles and good flavor. 3/5 - Shrimp and Pineapple Curry: shrimp, pineapple, carrots, and red bell peppers. This has to be one of the best Thai curries I've ever had. This dish exploded with flavor! Yummy spicy, sweet, and coconut-ty red curry flavor! You have to order this! It's sooo good! 5/5 - Pad Thai: noodles, shrimp, chicken, bean sprouts, green onions, carrots, and peanuts. Excellent flavor! Tastes authentic. Chicken and shrimp were both a little dry. They got my requests to put the bean sprouts and green onions on the side correctly (this is always a plus)! 5/5 Service: The waitress was very friendly and polite. She was very attentive and refilled our waters. She stopped by twice to check up on us. We were the only ones there but it was still nice of her. lol. 4/5 Final thoughts: Leftover pad thai was not as good as it was fresh, but the curry was just as good! Wonderful restaurant and a sure stop if in north Phoenix. This family run business from start to finish was great. The young woman who served us was very outgoing and was so attentive, even though she was running the front of the house. As for food, my father and I started with their Tom Yum Soup with Shrimp. The hot and sour broth with herbs and shrimp was awesome. If I am ever under the weather, this would be a go to soup. For our entrees, we went with the Pad Thai with chicken and the Grilled Shrimp with Rice. Both were so flavorful and very happy to have some leftovers for later. Pleasantly surprised!! The flavor was great and the spicy heat was on point. I got Panang curry with chicken and extra veggies. The veggies were super crispy and delicious. SERVICE: This dragged down KT's score a little. The one server they had was slow and took a while just to get our drink orders. Bear in mind the restaurant/room was about one-third full, so there were hardly any customers present. FOOD: This is the redeeming aspect of this establishment. They have very good spring rolls and spicy Thai fried rice. The portions are filling as well. VALUE: Fair for the money. I'd sing more praises if the service was faster. Karachai is an authentic, family-owned Thai restaurant in a strip mall with plenty of parking. Clean, bright, airy restaurant with lots of windows and very good service. Entrees are served with a bowl of rice and you will definitely need it if you get anything above a level 2 in spiciness. Spiciness ranges from low of 1 to a high of 5. We were happy with 1s and 2s as anything above was too spicy for us. We had Pad Thai Noodles, Green Curry with Chicken, Kra Prow with Minced Chicken (normally served with sliced chicken but we asked and they accommodated our minced chicken request), and Tofu with Eggplant. All of the dishes were excellent with good flavor and texture contrasts. If you are a newbie to Thai food, the four dishes have different flavors and sauces for a good walk-through to Thai cuisine. We closed with Sticky Rice with Fried Banana Rolls with Coconut Ice Cream which had two scoops of ice cream, and two egg roll wrapped fried banana pieces. It used to be one of my fav Thai place. This visit just throw everything out of the door. I understand sometimes restaurant can be a little short staffed but the lady who runs the front is not considerate at all. We waited for more than 30mins before we get her attention for the orders and another 20mins later after the 2nd request, the water finally came out. The togo box is dirty and when we ask for a new one, she gave us a very uncomfortable look. I guess no matter how good the food is, I don't feel welcome here anymore. Food is the main standout, we always get yellow curry and pad Thai, so granted we only get two things. That being said those two things are always made perfectly. My husband and I wanted to eat a nice dinner while our daughter took gymnastics next door and we waited at a table for 15 minutes before the manager(?) told us she was too busy to serve us and would not be able to take our order for at least another 30 minutes. TOO LONG WAIT TIME AFTER BEING MISQUOTED TIME TWICE. DONT SUPPORT THIS BUSINESS. I dont know how this business has got good reviews? The food is mediocre once you do get it. The first time. I order food and am told to it'll be done in 10 min. I kindly and quietly wait for about 45-60 min and finally get the food. It was mediocre nothing special not great. The second time. After asking why I need to wait more than 30 min for the food i was quoted for 10 she told me they serve those who sit first. There were one sitting guest. At which point I actually had to let her know to say 30 mins or more not 10 than. She gives me attitude and I walk out I'm done. I can hear there loud korean rap music playing in back while me food isn't coming out lol. So there hip and cool i get it but i don't have my food so it doesn't cut it. This was my second chance i gave to them and I thought everything would go well. I was wrong. They are as bad as i thought and worse. By the way! The chef is good - Kudos to you. However, the front of house service is very poor, unprofessional, and rude. Upon arriving we tried to sit in a booth that was apparently not wiped down. We moved to sit in our second choice but the lady told us that booth was also dirty. She had told us to sit at the "first" booth, which we assumed that was. But her idea of first was on the other side of the door, around the corner from kitchen, basically out of sight. She was slow to take our order and when she did, she did not ask if we wanted drinks. Though we wanted something else, this wasn't really a big deal. We ended up just drinking the tap water they provided. We ordered two entrees and an appetizer. When the waitress brought our entrees, I tried to remind her of the appetizer but she had already scurried off without asking if there was anything else we needed. I got up and found her to ask for our appetizer and for the spice tray, which she promptly brought to us. When she brought the bill, I asked if we could have some boxes. I had curry, which needs a separate container from the rice and my daughter had quite a bit of her noodle dish left. The waitress brought two small containers, which wasn't enough to fit our leftovers. My daughter told her it wouldn't fit and the waitress replied that it would. (It didn't.) I went back up and asked for two more and was rudely handed an even smaller container....one, not two and was told the "rice would fit". That is the point my daughter had enough and asked why she was so rude to her customers. I asked if it honestly cost that much for a container that she couldn't give up what we needed to take our food home. I have been going to this restaurant for years. At one point, it was at least a couple times a week. The original owners, chefs and servers were so pleasant. (They have all moved on now.) About 2-3 years ago, I had my first experience of their unorganized and poor service and found a different Thai restaurant. (Bangkok Thai or Siamese Kitchen - You should go there instead of here. They can be busy, but they get it right and they appreciate the heck out of their customers.) But, let's pretend you like being treated like you are a bother - You love when your patronage isn't appreciated - You don't desire anything more than tap water to drink - You feel you don't deserve your appetizer before your meal, or at all if you don't get up and ask for it - or you just truly enjoy rude service with a condescending smile - Then, this place is for you. Picked up Thai Spicy Fried Rice (Basil Fried Rice) but was disappointed. When you eat rice, you expect to feel the texture but it was all very mushy. And this was a first for tomatoes in Fried Rice, the moisture from them destroyed any texture that there might have been. Picked up Thai Ginger Chicken entree and it was flavorful but more veggies than chicken. May be 4-5 small chicken breast pieces. Egg rolls were nice and crisp. New ownership. I tried to keep an open mind, but they have eliminated the salad choice offering now only soup with lunch specials. Vegetables in soup were so crunchy raw, that I suspect they had not started it prior to 11:00 a.m. opening. So by the time we ate at 11:15 the soup was really not ready to serve. You may sense a theme, as the vegetables in the lunch #1 spicy basil chicken were also far under cooked. This dish strangely enough came out a full 10 minutes after companion's dish, although we were the only people in the restaurant. Companion ordered lunch 12 pad see ew noodles with chicken which was prepared properly. Portions were the same as prior owners but flavor was much diminished in the spicy basil chicken. Was told to sit ourselves. Sat and waited 20 minutes, but nobody came over to bring us water or take our order. Service is so slow almost nonexistent and the Restraunt was unreasonably cold inside. One employee was on the phone taking phone orders during the entire 20 mins, & the other employee was bringing out to go orders to place on the table. Each time out disregarded. Each time the phone rang for him to take a new order disregarded. Each time he walked in came to pick up to go orders, disregarded. This was absolutely ridiculous. Felt like we were imposing being in the restaurant despite the fact that it was virtually empty other than one of the couple. Let's be honest folks is this the kind of service you expect for $100 meal because that's what it has been the last several times we have gone to the Thai restaurant to eat. Rest assured, they saved us $100 this evening and we will not be returning.
