It felt like this place was really understaffed. It took a few minutes for us to be greeted. The same girl that greeted us was the same one that cleaned off the table so she could seat us. She was the same girl that waited on us. She was handling all of the tables in the area where we were seated. It was a little over 50 minutes from the time we sat down til the time our food came. My salad was missing the egg, which was the only non standard salad ingredient that would have justified the $11 price tag. My husbands burger looked good. I've only been to Kooky Canuck one time and I feel like my instincts were good on that decision. My husband and I met some friends and we walked over to the restaurant. After a concert. We each ordered a drink and we each ordered an appetizer. It took no less than 10 minutes for an ambivalent server to come to our table, and another 20 at least to get our drinks. It was absolutely ridiculous. We didn't get straws or napkins or utensils or anything and had to ask for them while our food was getting cold. It's cute in there, the seating and the decorations are fun, but I don't think it makes up for the experience or lack thereof. I have no interest in returning here. read more

When we arrived at Kooky Canuck it definitely had a Canadian feel to it & the staff was very friendly and attentive. The decor on the wall was filled with pictures of past food-challenge takers, it was fun to see all the people to attempt them. We sat at the bar and the bartender took great care of us & quickly accommodated to our drink questions. The food was very good & it came out quickly. The poutine appetizer is definitely a good pick if you're wanting to go there for that. The Mac and Cheese w/ Hot Chicken Tenders was the best part of the whole experience in my opinion. The Mac & Cheese was creamy and the chicken was the perfect amount of spice to balance with the rest of the dish. The skillet is hot when it comes out so be careful lol. The BBQ Pork Sandwich was perfectly cooked and the beans on the sandwich were a good addition to the sandwich. Would definitely recommend this to anyone visiting in Memphis! read more

Had a delicious meal today and great service from Kristen. I have dietary restrictions (celiac) and must be gluten-free. Kristin was most helpful to make sure I would be okay with what I ordered. She confirmed a couple of things with the kitchen for me and went above and beyond in her service. I had grilled chicken and sides were collard greens and baked beans. We shared a wedge salad. Loved this place! Great food and excellent service! I came upon this place during my first visit to Memphis and boooy was I in for a treat! It's had a great bar, cocktails and drink menu but also great for families! Everything we ordered was great! Fried green tomatoes, were hot, fresh and crispy and just lightly breaded ( in a good way where you could still taste the juicy tomatoe). The pork egg rolls were delicious as an appetizer! For meals the hamburgers are the most popular and do not disappoint! The catfish dinner ( large portion) and delicious in its own right! I tried the pull pork sandwich with sweet potato fries! This is my first time to the South and we found Kooky Canuck by accident. What a super find. First our waitress Sybil was terrific. So nice and helpful. She took our order right away and constantly checked if we needed anything else. Refilled out drinks promptly and any other need was immediately met. Now the food. I had the Montreal Steamer Hot Dogs. They give you two to the order. DELICIOUS. Served with mustard and cabbage instead of sauerkraut. I liked it much better. They were perfectly steamed on soft rolls. My wife had the pear and walnut salad. Excellent. Especially the candied walnuts. I met the Manager Shawn and he was so nice. What a great find Kooky Canuck was for us. Will go back tomorrow for a final time before leaving Memphis. read more

Best place to go for a late night sugar rush. Open til 2am, it's a bar/restaurant combo that serves foods and desserts all night. They have food challenges here and for any birthdays, they have an 18 scoop ice cream avalanche available. Atmosphere: very cozy. Lighting is very dim, it makes the food coma hit harder. we had a party of 12 roll through and they were great about splitting checks and bringing all our food out at the same time. Service was slow but very accommodating. Food: skillet desserts were amazing. TIP: don't get the skillet minis. They're the size of your palm. For double the price, the normal ones are 4x bigger. We tried Kooky Canucks on the strength of reviews I saw in google maps. It was walking distance from our hotel and it had been a long drive. The service was a little slow and our server was lukewarm at best. I can live with all that but for what we paid the food was not good. I got a poached pear salad that had no flavor in the pear which was small, the candied nuts were good but everything else was bland. My son got the maple glazed steak with fries and green beans. The steak was small for the price and the maple glaze completely overpowered the steak. He said the fries were good but the green beans were really chewy. We spent 40+ dollars with a decent tip for a mediocre dining experience. Maybe it was just a bad night but we were extremely disappointed with our dining choice. read more

This will be a quick review. After spending all morning at Graceland with my girlfriend I needed to relax and have a beer at a place that had the Niners/Seahawks game. I decided to try Kooky Canuck which was located across from the Peabody Hotel ( which we stayed ) which was really convenient. I remembered seeing the kooky Canuck on man vs food a long time ago so I knew about it. It's a fun restaurant. Since I only stopped in for a beer I did not try any of the food. Yet.. looking around.... The food looked great. Davin, our bartender made it special. Davin is awesome! So fun! Disappointing to say the least. Ordered take out after arriving late. Showed up about 25 minutes after ordering and still had to wait another 15 minutes at the bar for my food to be done. The "sirloin" was small strips of steak that were slightly burnt, chewy, and drizzled with an overpoweringly sweet sauce. The entire portion was laughable. Even after waiting, the steak was hot but the mashed potatoes were only lukewarm at best. If that's not bad enough a 18% mandatory tip is added to all takeout orders. Yikes. As a side note, their mobile app is also a huge disappointment. I was not able to complete an order on the app so I had to call in. Don't waste your time downloading. Maybe it was a bad night, maybe I ordered the wrong thing, but I guess I'll never know. read more

Good food, poor service! I sat at the bar and ordered a burger and a Coke, didn't get my drink until after I got my food, and that's despite asking twice for my Coke, an insistence that was met with an annoyed hand gesture from the bartender! Napkins and silverware arrived late also after food was served. Then as I got closer to the end of my meal, or more like closer to the check, the bartender became much nicer, and even apologized for the service mishaps that took place 30 minutes earlier! I wonder what prompted that sudden change of attitude?! I tipped anyway, but I don't necessarily recommend this place. read more

Was visiting Memphis in February 13-16, 2021 during the biggest snow storm in a very long time. Most restaurants were closed, but the Kooky Canuck was open. We were searching all over town for open restaurants and found this little gem driving around. It wasn't far from our hotel. We got the food to-go and took it back to our room. We asked the bartender what was good and ordered his suggestions. The Younge Street burger and The Pimento and Green Burger. Both were very good. The Pimento and Green was my favorite. It has house made pimento cheese and a fried green tomato on top. Amazing combination. The Younge Street had mushrooms and with grilled onions and cheese. It was very good and a little spicy, which was very nice. We. also ordered the BBQ egg rolls. They were filled with pulled pork and had a BBQ dipping sauce. The bartender and staff were very nice. The food didn't take long. Prices were good. I would like to go back and eat in the restaurant to have a drink and relax, but it was a crazy time with 6 inches of snow and no parking due to everyone getting stuck in the snow. The Kooky Canuck was a great experience. Our group of six new to downtown Memphis walked in and were seated in Pimala's section. We let her know that there would be more coming she said we could use the tables near us. We ended up with a party of over 25 people eating and drinking. The food was good, Pimala was our server and she did an excellent job. We had a great time and would recommend The kooky Canuck to everyone. First time in Tennessee and they make a damn fine burger. The atmosphere was great and our waiter/bartender Davin was great with the burger suggestions and whiskey suggestions. I had the Memphis best and it was a fresh burger using fresh ingredients, the meat was soft and juicy and the fries were great. David recommended that we try the Daddy Rack whiskey a local whiskey and it was a great suggestions. It was a very pleasant experience and I hope to be back soon. read more

Great experience from start to finish! We were just in town for a few nights and found this spot via Yelp! Our waitress was great- she gave really good menu recommendations, and even wrote down a few bars in the area for us to check out later that night. They offer $5 32oz cocktails on Tuesdays to celebrate 'Tipsy Tuesday' we both got the peach bourbon Arnold Palmer and they were super tasty! We both ordered burgers- I did a build your own with their homemade pimento cheese (AMMAAAZINGGGG) and bacon DH ordered the Maple Bacon burger and it was definitely the star of the show- he added some cheese and it was sandwiched between two pieces of French toast- so so very messy but so dang good! I had a really great lunch at Kooky Canuk! A fellow Yelper recommend that we go for lunch to try out the Barbecue Egg rolls and boy were they DELICIOUS! When we first walked in, the hostess was very pleasant and our waiter. They both had friendly personalities. The facility is very clean and the decor is beautiful. That alone captured my attention. Now about the food......It was just as good as he said it would be. The egg rolls were cooked to perfection. My salad was fresh and well balanced with ingredients (I had the Southwestern Salad). Y'all.... Geezus. Don't do it. The ONLY upside was our amazingly sweet server, named Parker. Listen. It's pub food, cooked in a vat of old, old oil. Food was VERY heavy. Sloppy. Gross. --Tried the BBQ egg rolls. This was a travesty. Memphis is known for their BBQ, and this tasted like something from Walmart. Heck, I'm pretty sure you can do better at Walmart. The hot coleslaw cooked INSIDE of it, was immoral. An angel has to loose its wings every time someone makes the horrible mistake of being served that. --So much salt on our burgers they were nearly inedible. Like grit in your mouth, three glasses of water later, you've gotten the first few bites down. Neither of us ate 1/4 of the meals. Now. I would have asked for a redo, or refund. But this seems to be a low-accountability, DGAF about customers, kind of establishment. As evidenced by their sign as soon as you walk in the front door (pictured below). That should've been my first clue. And both of thought it was peculiar, well...it's because they screw up the food and don't want to assume responsibility. --Atmosphere is very much a sports bar vibe. It's loud. I couldn't tell if smoking was allowed, but I kept getting big whiffs of cigarettes. --The Canadian influence was lost on me. We didn't ask for a redo, as clearly noted in the OG review. We had reasons for that, they are as follows: 1.) The signage in the picture attached was the FIRST thing to greet us. The implication is that your establishment routinely messes up food enough to merit a sign that explicitly states you won't credit folks back on their orders, if they so happen not to like your "recipe." I don't want to reorder food, unseasoned. I want it not so saturated in salt as to be inedible. But that wasn't the only issue; all of it was sub-par and lower quality, full-stop. I suspect you might know this, and are too egotistical to own it. So you double-down. 2.) We didn't want to trouble your lovely server. She's about the best thing you had going there that night. But, if she was attentive, she would have noted we didn't eat 3/4th's of our food. While paying for it all, and tipping her approximately 20%. 3.) Throwing your issue back on the customer, for your screw up, is probably the most telling thing to me, in all of this. Which only deepens my amazement that you are so brazen to do so. It points to you sir, as failing, weak, inept, tone-deaf, and haughty. No one likes a negative review. They can be hard to hear. They are opportunities for growth and change, however. But even worse than a negative review, is not owning mistakes and failure. You compounded an easy to resolve issue. read more

Kooky Canuck is apparently a Downtown Memphis institution but I'd never been. In fact, until a quick "kid friendly" restaurant search led us here, I'd never heard of it. But, for my niece's 12th birthday, we thought she'd enjoy the burgers and skillet cookies. So off to Kooky Canuck we went. The line at this place was serious but somehow, we were able to snag a table quickly. Sitting among the wooden decor and surrounded by animal wall mounts in the Canadian-themed restaurant, we looked over the extensive menu that boasted massive burgers - kookamongas - on the order of 4 lb, 6 lb, and 12 lb concoctions! These giant burgers are best known for being a part of a "Man vs. Food" challenge. For those who are extremely hungry, you can still take the 12 lb burger challenge. Finish it all in 60 minutes and it's yours, for free. Otherwise you'll have to fork up $99.99! Knowing that none of us were that hungry, we just ordered appetizers to share and some regular sized burgers. We got the barbecue egg rolls, chicken tenders, and fried dill pickles to share, followed by the canadian and maple bacon burgers. Canadian bacon on top of a burger patty was actually quite tasty and there is something to be said about sandwiching a patty between french toast slices...very creative.
