As a Memphis girl I have been coming here forever and I don't plan to stop anytime soon. The reason? Good food, good service and a place that is uniquely itself. Its location by the convention center keeps new faces coming in and the proximity to St Jude keeps regulars coming in too. I am usually a wild rice dish. They are so good! I try to duplicate them at home but never get it as good at Westy's (or back in the day The North End). But I have also had sandwiches, burgers and more as have friends. On this visit, we ordered fried green tomatoes as one of our group wasn't familiar with the south's gift to the world. They were awesome. Won a new fan over. My rice dish #10 was awesome as expected. The other folks at the table had the Philly and a burger. Everyone was really happy with the meals they chose. Topped it off with a couple of hot fudge pies! Totally Westy's. Big menu, friendly service. We walked over here on our first night in Memphis while staying at the pyramid. Seems to be a long lived local food spot and it delivers. Had the ribs (they came slathered in sauce which isn't my favorite but it was mild). Their Mac n cheese, grilled cheese and slaw was fantastic. read more

Came for early dinner around 5 pm on a Saturday. Dining room was not full but I saw only 2 servers and service was slow. Son got the boom boom shrimp; not impressed -- probably a cornbread style coating ( menu doesn't specify) but it's a southern restaurant so he should have known. He got tots as his side and they were very bland, also seemed like cornbread coated. I got marinated chicken sandwich with seasoned steak fries and those were a lot better. Our server did not check on us except for when we were calling him over ourselves. Got the famous hot fudge pie, which may have been the best part of the meal. read more

Didn't know what to expect, it was great! A true local bar where everyone knows your name... The bartender was so sweet to just make up a bunch of drinks for us. My hubby had the burger and loved it. I had one of the rice plates (basically dirty rice, topped with melted cheese and choice of protein), surprisingly simple and delicious. This was the first restaurant I tried in Memphis, and it surprised me a lot. They were quick to take our order and also to bring it to us. I tried the wild rice bowl with marinated chicken. It was amazing. The rice was delicious and the chicken juicy and well seasoned. I also ordered one local IPA beer, the Soul & Spirits Hoochie Coochie. It was perfect! Worse customer service ever. Here for a conference and was dog tired. Ordered Door dash at 10:29pm we did not receive our food until TWO HOURS LATER. (Not the fault of the dasher). I called repeatedly to see what the issue was. I was told twice it would be more 10-15 minutes...That they were really busy and in person customers have priority over delivery. When we finally received the food, what I ordered for myself was missing. I drove up there in my Pjs to get my food. The "manager" was rude and incompetent. and they were not busy at all. I'm in Memphis at a work conference at the convention center. Me and my colleague walked from the convention center to Westy's which was about a 5 min walk. We were greeted and seated right away. The place was clean and everyone was kind bad welcoming. Maggie, was our waitress and was attentive and took our detailed orders and made sure everything was just right. She even gave us to go options and helped us figure out our leftover options based on where we were staying. The food, now the food was top quality. I got the cheeseburger which was a proper homemade burger. You can tell they mix and cook the patty in house. We also got the seafood stuffed mushrooms and the chicken and dumplings cup. Once in a while Yelp universe keeps me honest and sends me a disappointing experience that requires me to share. I have supported this business for nearly 23 years. It's always been a favorite when I come into town. As a matter fact, it is normally my first destination. But tonight upset and disappointed me beyond words. I placed an order approximately 20 minutes before getting out of church. I figured that was enough time to wait out the order being prepared and being able to grab it to go. When I arrived at First, the man told me he had no order for me at all. I produced a receipt with a fully paid order only for him to tell me that he had rejected my order. One of the items on my order was the Philly egg rolls and because they were out of one appetizer item he canceled my entire dinner order for my family. He had every opportunity to make my order and get me moving, but he informed me that I would be put into the regular line with everyone else and have at least approximately 20 minutes to wait. The customer service tonight was more than abysmal. I would be decided to say that I may not eat there again in the future. But I definitely will be very careful about referring others because if this is a level of service, they can expect I would not want to feel responsible for their experience. I was also disappointed because he informed me that he attempted to call. But I also attempted to call them four times prior to leaving the parking lot of the church just to verify that they have my order. And they had their phone off the hook. read more

I would have loved to review this establishment in its totally, but sadly I can only review the service and it simply was not good. My better half and I were visiting Memphis and this place seemed like a good choice. However, when we walked in, another patron told us we could sit where we wanted since there was no host/hostess available. After sitting for more than 15 mins, no one came to take our order, but took the order of another couple that came after us. What could be improved? Step up the hostess game! read more

This is my first time in Memphis, and this was my first restaurant in Memphis. So far, I'm not impressed. I came here because it is close to the hotel, serves fish, and I don't have a car. Let me just warn you that the neighborhood is a bit rough looking. There's a lot of construction going on, but it generally just looks creepy and deserted. But anyway, back to the restaurant. My server, Barbara, was pleasant. She tended to me immediately, took my order and checked on me. I ordered the grilled salmon with the side salad and fries. She brought the salad first, but it had cheese on it so I told her I don't eat dairy or egg. So she took it back. When she returned, it was the same salad, but appeared as though someone had handpicked the cheese off. You can still see small pieces of cheese on the salad in the photo. Clearly, this establishment does not take food restrictions seriously. But also, did someone put their dirty, unwashed hands in my salad??? Lord I hope not. But I'll never know... The salad was fine. I had it with Italian dressing. But the more I ate it, the more I imagine eating tiny drops of Covid particles from someone's unwashed hands. So I had to stop and let that go. The salmon wasn't grilled. It was more pan seared. It was under seasoned but definitely edible. The fries were great but it was a small amount. I didn't want the rice, but it was actually the most flavorful part of the meal! I didn't eat the random tomato on the plate because it had cheese on it... The power went out in the whole establishment for about 10 seconds. Needless to say, I won't be back. read more

We had the fried green tomato BLT and it was amazing. Everything on this plate was perfection from the bacon to just the right amount of mayonnaise. The side of tater tots, that came with the dish, were fried and tasted amazing. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. If your looking for a restaurant in Memphis this is it!!! Do NOT go here!!! Co-workers and I ordered lunch and I went to pick it up. Young white woman was the waitress. She walked past me three times as she was, apparently, mistreating another couple sitting at the table. I said excuse me and she turned around and said not now. As another waitress approached to assist me, she decided to talk to me. I ask her to move away from me. She then told me that she would throw the drink she was carrying on me. By then I was annoyed and told her to do it. She decided against that and said she was going to call her "people." I am a life long Memphian and told her to do what she needs to. A young white man came in the back door and she went to him. He may have been a manager so she was speaking to him. The other customer came and spoke with the manager and then the woman said you are just mad cause I'm white and pretty. I proceeded to tell her she was white but was far from pretty. She said don't be mad cause we are making America Great Again. I left and took our nasty food. My co worker had already paid on line. Chef salad with no eggs, tomato, and the wrong salad dressing all. All the food was sub par and the service was awful. Gumbo was sweet and a $7 tiny piece of pie. Stay AWAY from this place!!!! If my co-worker had not already paid for the food online I would've left. If I had not found grace in the lord I would've been at 201. Do yourself and your mental health a favor and stay away from this dump. The place deserves no stars but I had to give it one. read more

My friend was there on Saturday August 4th around 4:15. We sat down (not crowded at all) we went unnoticed for almost 3o minutes- no water- no may I help you -nothing. The waiter even came to the table across from us picked up a fork that was on the floor and straightened the table! The other waiter was laughing and talking to the group of peopl that had already been served.Then to make matters even worse- the table where the waiter straightened the table a group of 8-10 people came in and they were served immediately. I went to the owner who apologized and even admitted that two people by him was served But you never offered us a meal or anything complimentary! You will address and we should be upset! No I'm not upset but you can rest assure everyone that I know will know how we were treated. If this is who you hire and you are there and don't oversee what is going on... just Close! Went to Westy's yesterday (Aug. 2nd, 2025) to have dinner with a co-worker. We arrived around 5 p.m. we walked in and there was only 6 other people in the restauran. We took a seat and looked at the menu. Three servers (2 men and 1 woman) was working. After over 10-20 minutes no one ever came over to our table to take our order or even acknowledge us. We watched them go to all the other patrons and refill their glasses and bring out food. They were even cleaning tables during this time and looking at us the entire time. Soon after 4 different groups of people came in and had a seat and they immediately went to take their order and bring out water. Not once did they come to our table as if we weren't there. By now , we had been there for 30 minutes. We went to the owner and told him what happen with no resolve. I even called and spoke with him and he stated he was going to speak with them. I've visited this restaurant over 15 yrs and bring people there all the time. This has never happened before and I'm not happy about this incident at all. FOOD POISONING!! I've only ever been there twice. The first time I went I ordered the catfish and it was indeed catfish. The recent time that I went, I ordered the same thing and it was not catfish. It tasted like a substitution of catfish. It was so bad that I just decided not to finish it. The following day I woke up throwing up and sick. It was also a bad experience with the waiter sitting in our face, making sure we did not walk out without paying. Customers that were there before us just walked out without paying. First, we tried this place since it was open late, but the food was not good at all. Also, the cleanliness of the restaurant is questionable. They have papers out, kitchen looks dirty, ice machine top was wide open, it just needs a true deep clean. Also, we waited over 45 minutes for our order and the restaurant was not busy at all. The quality of the food was missing. The gumbo was watery and missing the broth consistency. The fried fish was not fresh and the shrimp po boy was average. You had the owner trying to serve at the bar and get the food out and he was clearly overwhelmed. This was a hard no for me. read more

So the wings went from being raw like blood oozing raw to so singed I didn't even recognize what was in the basket. I was so grief-striken as to what was on my plate and the audacity that the cook, and the server...had to bring such unappetizing food to the table..the taste of the chicken was bitter because the singed meat was cooked to where it was completely black and burnt making it inedible and it made one of us sick. The vibe was like your neighborhood bar that only the locals seem to know about. My date and I arrived at 10pm and were told to sit anywhere we'd like, so I chose a booth. My date is 6 feet tall so the booth was a bad idea, but the drinks came so swiftly that we forgot all about the small space. I ordered a Turkey burger, and everything was so fresh, just delicious! I ate all that I could and we ordered cheesecake to go. It gave everything it was supposed to. I really like the food and prices here. There's a huge variety on the menu; very hard to choose just one thing to try. It's got a very Memphis vibe about it. We tried the fudge pie, because how could we not with a sign every 2 ft saying how good it was. And I liked the pie...but I felt like there wasn't very much of it. It was served under a massive ball of ice cream, which just crushed the pie to a thin layer of chocolatiness. There were no bites of pie, just bits of pie we had to roll the ice cream around to find. Yummy? Very. Worth it? Maybe. I might order again and get it with the ice cream on the side and see what is actually going on with the pie. read more
