We went there to watch the game and grab some dinner while staying at the hotel across the street . We were pleasantly surprised at how amazing the food was ! The fries are fresh hand cut fries, not frozen. The shaved roast beef sandwich was so thick with roast beef you couldn't get your mouth around it, and the roast beef was good quality and delicious ! Been to Kooky Canuck a few times, but recently visited again yesterday with my family to celebrate a birthday. I called ahead to check if they had seating for a large party, and while they told me they don't do holds, they were very nice and said if we came before anyone else there is space available. Upon arrival, the host was very nice and seated us right away. Our waitress was also friendly and did a wonderful job taking care of us. Now the food. To start, we ordered the BBQ eggrolls to share. Those things are bussin! Really good honestly. We all thoroughly enjoyed them. For my "main" course, I ordered the pound of wings with holy smoke sauce. I was asked if I was sure that I wanted that sauce, to which I replied excitingly, YES! I'm a spice lover with a high spice tolerance and these were perfect. I let my family sample the sauce and all of them agreed that it was very hot. To me, yes it was spicy, but honestly very enjoyable/perfectly spicy. A few steps away from the famous Beale Street is a fantastic off-the-beaten-path place you'd never know to look for. The Kooky Canuck wins my vote for great food, great atmosphere and fun workers. Our waitress Sarah made the best recommendations for food, beer, desserts and where to go for live music after. We had the Molson Canadian beer- delish, poutine (fries with gravy and cheese curds) which our Canadian friend loved -so it gets the authenticity seal. I had the Maple Bread pudding and it was off the charts amazing. We added two scoops of vanilla ice cream to top off the bourbon maple glaze and shared amongst 4 people ( feeds two hungry, 4 minis) #musthave The walls have photos of former burger challenge winners, but I am willing to bet most of them compete in food challenges often. The burger for the challenge is huge. I can't even begin to describe it and the photos do not do it justice you have to see it in person. Crazy. No way an untrained stomach could finish it. I was strolling through Beale street at first and somehow ended up walking into this place. The staff was friendly and the wait for the food was very short. The food portions were beyond what I thought it would be. Hubby ordered the Yonge Street Burger and I got the Halifax Donair. Pregame grub - conveniently a 10 min walk from FedEx Forum. Came here before a Grizzlies came on a weeknight. The moment you walk in the door, you can see pictures of previous competitors who achieved their titles with Kooky Canuck's burger challenges. People all around the country have come here just for the challenge! I got the the Holy Smoke burger, because I love things hot. The burger brought the heat! Loved every bite of it and left STUFFED. The service was wonderful. The only thing I have a complaint about that would have made this a 5/5 is the fries. They tasted over cooked, and burnt. Would come again for the burgers. I came here only for the 34 oz drinks. They serve them in a big mug type glass. I had the strawberry mojito which was good but sweet, I couldn't finish it all honestly: I only came for the drinks so didn't try anything to eat. What a great restaurant. I am a little upset at myself for over looking Kooky Canuck all these years I have been coming to MEM. Great location from most places in DT MEM. Actually it was my backup as I could not be certain my first choice was open. Another mistake on my part. As soon as I entered the door there were multiple folks greeting me. I only came in to order carry-out as I had to leave for work. Fresh clean restaurant. Beautiful bar. Friendly staff. I love in MI and felt like home actually with the kindness of the staff. I enjoyed the clean atmosphere and open layout of this restaurant. There are a lot of animals to look at which are fun for the kids. The food menu has a lot to choose from, but we ended up getting the maple salmon, cheesy corn, Mac n cheese and steamed veggies. The salmon was good, but the steamed veggies looked old and not fresh--some of the carrots were brown and shriveled, which is not something I would even serve my family at home. The veggies should have been thrown away. The cheesy corn was good but seems like the sauce was similar to Velveeta cheese. I was told if the cheesy corn isn't fresh it's not great, so it sounds like it is hit or miss. Overall I feel like the food was one priced for the quality and the menu has the same maple theme over and over ( I understand because the restaurant Is Canadian, but it just seemed like a lot) The server was very kind and went out of our way for us, she remembered us from last time and treated us nicely. I give our waitress 5 stars. The only thing I noticed of poor service is when we asked for a to-go bag we waited a long time while the bus boys stood around talking. We passed by this place a couple times looking for something to eat. Parked across the street and walked in. We were seated quickly. TVs, bar and lots of cool animal heads. Our server was very helpful. We had a few questions and she made honest recommendations. I say honest bc she didn't just say everything was delicious off the bat. We had the waffle Monte Cristo and Poutine smash burger. Poutine burger was a hit. The gravy paired with the fries and cheese in the burger was a great combination. The buns was a bit dense. I would recommend it though. Now the Monte Cristo was a combination of no-go. It was lacking texture, powdered sugar, meat and grease or something. It did not hit the spot. I'm going to be straight up with you. If you are a foodie and expect a high quality of food, do not come here. My table had 3 dishes. The salmon, shaved prime rib, & catfish po'boy. The salmon was dry and over done, the prime rib tasted and looked like an Arby's roast beef, and the catfish was super mushy and tasted like a lake. There are plenty of other places to have a good dinner at in Memphis. The vibe here is decent, that's why I have it a second star. It was really good! I ordered to go, but my complaint with it is that they charge a fee if you want to take it. So I didn't really appreciate the extra 4$ only so I could walk it across the street.
