I am happy with my strawberry salad and salmon. I have zero complaints. Now my husband has no complaints l, however l, beg to differ. His $11 bowl of crab soup was nothing but cream and broth. Tasty, but I can make that at home for $1. His salmon meal also was very tiny. The brownie dessert was severely lacking. Now that I write this, I feel dissatisfied. Had a chance to have a cocktail at the bar before the members in our party arrived for our reservation time. Great, friendly service and very quick. I had a perfect dirty martini and my husband had an excellent old fashioned ( chose not to do the smoked version. ) We were seated at the time of our reservation with courteous and prompt attention from our waiter. He informed us of all the specials and gave us the right amount of time to relax before ordering. The food was excellent and beautifully presented. I like the atmosphere, not too large of a dining area, I like the separate room of tables, with a fireplace, along with the area of booths for a more intimate setting. Had some good flavor and a slight amount of heat. The short rib was a little tough to eat and overcooked. Still was good. The Caesar salad I would pass on. All the croutons were stale. I've been here a handful of times. Most of them have been quite lovely. Out of the times I have dined here, almost all have been with people from work. I do believe C and I have only been here once as a couple. It did not go well at all, so we have not been back together, as she is holding a bit of a grudge. It's a long story but it all ties back to service. That night we had the worst table in the building and service was spotty at best. Food was still pretty good, just whole ass annoyed by the entirety of the rest of the experience. I am lucky enough to be able to be taken to/host dinner with clients and manufacturers a good bit. They like places like this so I get by ever so often. Gotta love expensed meals!!! Tehehe I like the open kitchen concept they have and the bar is really cool. The metal shelves at the bar that store the booze are bad ass. It's warm and cozy and has a great vibe overall. The last time we sat on the enclosed patio. I had not sat out there before. I think the larger tables all go out there. We had seven and there was another group of about twenty in the same room with us. Food ranges from fairly good to fucking great. I've never had anything bad here, but a few sighs have been had, mostly by misunderstood expectations of what I was getting I would say. So, quite possibly I am the problem. As with most of my problems, actually... The oysters Rockefeller are very different from the norm. Fried oysters on a side of spinach. That's what it seems like. I ate it up, don't get me wrong. I did just switch to only fried oysters after the first one. No need wasting stomach space on spinach. Charbroiled oysters is always a good move and the preparation remains traditional on that one. I do find the oysters to be quite massive and hard to chew the whole thing at once. Cutting them just seems silly though. Steaks are prepared very well and to your liking each time. I have never had a bad one. Good flavor too. I am going to spring on the Hawaiian Ribeye the next time I go on my dime. It's a classic that I remember from Steak and Ale as well as Houston's. Both now gone from Memphis. I like the she crab soup an awful lot, and just about every entree I have had here is killer. You really cannot go wrong with the food. Just order something you normally like and boom. I will also say this. The short ribs I had last time were some of the best I have ever had. Bravo on that! Additionally, I had two giant pieces for like $40! I could only eat one of them after all of the appetizers. Oh.... Yea. They have a hot lobster roll that is good! You don't see that in Memphis very often!! Get you some. Wait.... Lamb Lollipops. They have evolved some of the years but they have really good lamb chops. They used to be the exact same dish as their sister concepts of Itta Bena, BB Kings, and Lafayette's. I am not sure if the whole family still has the old version or not. Another visit for our local bookclub. As always I enjoy this location. This time we opted for brunch items. Our server Tucker was absolutely amazing. It was chilly outside and I loved sitting by the fireplace until the our party fully arrived. We were seated on the enclosed patio area and enjoyed the open space. Cocktail: blueberry lemon drop was 10/10 Appetizer: spinach dip is always a must Entree: chicken and waffles. Moondance opted to take a savory spin on this popular brunch dish. Went to Moondance Grill tonight and babyyyy the food did not disappoint I got the 16oz ribeye with the sweet potato casserole and loaded garlic potatoes and everything was seasoned so good. The steak was cooked just right and super tender, like you could cut it easy with barely trying lol. I also tried the Raspberry Revive and it was sooo refreshing with my meal. The vibe in there is really nice and cozy but still classy at the same time. One thing that really stood out to me was the bathrooms, the asthetics in there were honestly sooo cute . We visited Moondance for the first time on Friday evening after hearing so many positive things and seeing its excellent reviews. Unfortunately, our experience didn't live up to the reputation. We had 5:15 p.m. reservations but arrived around 4:45. The restaurant had been open since 11:00 a.m., and there were only a handful of occupied tables. The interaction at the hostess stand was awkward, with one hostess asking another, in front of us, whether they could seat us yet. We were then asked if we had a preference, and when we said no, we were taken to the bar. We had assumed the question meant table versus booth, not bar versus dining room. Once we clarified, we were seated in the dining room. Our server was friendly and made a great first impression, but the service throughout the meal was disappointing, especially for what is presented as a fine dining restaurant. There were long stretches when we never saw him. We waited longer than expected to order appetizers and our entrees, and once our food arrived both of our drinks were empty. We had to ask for refills rather than having them noticed. On one occasion, while we were looking for our server, we saw him chatting with another server at the hostess stand while guests were waiting for service. The food itself was just average. My salmon, ordered medium, was cooked properly but lacked flavor. Lisa's potato croquette arrived cold in the center. The biggest surprise was the sweet potato casserole, which appeared to be the same St. Clair prepared casserole sold in grocery stores. It's a good product, but I was surprised to see a fine dining restaurant serving what seemed to be a commercially prepared side rather than something made in-house. Overall, this felt more like casual chain restaurant service than the attentive experience I expect from a restaurant with Moondance's reputation and price point. We left disappointed because we had anticipated a special evening. I hope this was simply an off night, but based on our experience, I can only give it two stars. read more

We went to Moondance last night for dinner since it was our last night in Memphis for our anniversary trip. We were not disappointed. From the moment we stepped in we had a good feeling. We were immediately greeted by our server, Johnathan. He provided recommendations and allowed us to look over the menu while he grabbed us waters. We sat by the fireplace which was really nice and romantic. The food was delicious. I had the lobster bisque while my husband had the spinach dip. For entrees, I had the airline chicken which came with two pieces of chicken, some veggies, and the most delicious mashed potatoes I've had in a while. TLDR: highly recommended. Please don't let the emphasis on the dress code be a deterrent. My partner and I were dressed casually (sweaters, jeans, and boots) and there was no issue. Our server was extremely complimentary of us and made excellent recommendations. My partner got the smoked old fashion. We appreciate presentation; the arrival of the beverage in a cocktail smoker was a nice touch. I prefer bourbon, but on the sweeter side, so the frozen old fashioned was a perfect choice for me - also at the suggestion of our server. My partner ordered the she-crab soup, which was absolutely velvety and delicious. I ended up tasting all of his food - the lamb chops, mashed potatoes, and creamed spinach. I typically don't consume lamb, but these were good - cooked to perfection. The sauce paired perfectly with the mashed potatoes which were not overly garlicky. The creamed spinach was good as well. I had the lobster ravioli, which was great - I just wished the portion was a tad larger. I counted 4 ravioli altogether. We had room for dessert. My partner opted for an espresso martini, which was Strong yet good. I ordered the maple bourbon creme bruleè which paired well with my drink. A pianist began to play as we finished up, which we took turns "naming that tune". Something about "outside air" makes my child use the bathroom. Had brunch here on Saturday at 1 PM with a reservation. The weather was beautiful, so it felt like the perfect day to come out and enjoy their brunch menu. Our waiter, Joshua, provided excellent service throughout the entire meal. He was attentive, friendly, and made the experience even better. We started with the spinach dip as an appetizer. It wasn't my favorite--it had more of a spinach-forward taste than the cheesy flavor I usually prefer in spinach dip. It wasn't bad at all, just not quite my personal style. I ended up tasting a few dishes from around the table. The salmon was great, and the French toast was delicious. I was also surprised that the lobster roll came with two! Honestly, one would have been filling enough. After the appetizer, I could barely finish half of one. For drinks, I started with the passion fruit mimosa, which was really good, and followed it up with a French 75--also excellent. If they could not have done that they should have contacted customers so they could make new reservations. I have been there at least 6 times. This time was the worst experience I have ever had. I've been to Moondance a few times, and this was probably one of my worst experiences there. On previous visits, I've had the lamb chops and braised short ribs. This time, I wanted to try something different. I've heard good things about the maple bourbon glaze salmon, so I decided to try it. I also ordered the Rockefeller oysters, bread service, she-crab soup, and lamb chops. The soup was one of my first dishes, but it was lukewarm when served. The maple bourbon glaze was very sweet, and the salmon tasted like water with the char on the sides being overly charged and sometimes giving a burnt flavor. It felt too sweet paired with the sweet potato casserole, but the green beans served with the casserole were enjoyable. The lamb chops were not great; they were supposed to be cooked medium but were still very chewy and lacked enough seasoning. Lamb is usually pretty good, so I was disappointed. The oysters were good; I really enjoyed those. Our server was not good. He kept trying to sell us more items, but the service was terrible. He asked my partner if he wanted another drink but never refilled our waters. He also brought the dessert menu and was ready with our check before we even had the chance to refuse dessert. This is the second time we have had bad food here at Geno's 140 club. This time the hamburger my wife ordered came to us with a bun having green mold on it. How does this happen? The people preparing the food should have seen this when placing the meat on the bun. It has been three months since the last poor quality/ preparation stopped us coming here. We live close by and used to stop in at least once a month. Not again , be warned. Where is the health department? I'll bet it would reveal considerable more violations. read more

I met an old friend for a late lunch at Moondance Grill during the week. I ordered the Prime Rib Sliders (sliced ribeye, brioche, horseradish, swiss) and my lunch date ordered the Chicken Lettuce Wraps. I enjoyed these. There were three sliders and it was the perfect amount for lunch for me. I would have liked a little more horseradish but I like it spicy. Good space, big booths, and attentive service. 10/10 experience at Moondance! The ambiance was great. It was quiet enough for our medium sized party to hear each other across the table, yet not too quiet that we felt we couldn't speak freely. Our waiter, Tucker, was awesome. He was patient and knowledgeable,& with several other tables during the time, we never felt neglected. I also enjoyed that there were 3 menu options during this time (around 12:30 on a Sunday afternoon) we had the choice of the full menu, the brunch menu, as well as the lunch hand held menu. There were options for everyone. On to the food: I was quite surprised to find that my oyster Rockefeller was fried, but i was not disappointed. The flavor was all there from the lively and perfectly fried oysters to the smooth and creamy spinach base. For my main, I had the short rib tacos which were excellent along with the candied Brussels. Personally, not a huge fan of the Brussels, i believe mostly due to the texture (i prefer a bit of a crunch and a smaller Brussel sprout) but overall excellent experience. Visited Moon Dance and sat at the bar -- the bar staff service was phenomenal. They were attentive, professional, and genuinely apologetic when issues came up. The three-star rating is specifically for the kitchen execution, not the service. I ordered the lamb (at the chef's recommendation) medium, but it came out well done, with some parts closer to medium-well. The bar team immediately took care of it and sent it back, which I appreciated. Later, I ordered the apple crisp dessert, which took quite a while to arrive. After about 20 minutes, I had to flag someone down to check on it. When it finally came out, the ice cream was completely melted, suggesting it had been sitting for a bit. The bar was busy, so I didn't want to make a fuss -- but with better kitchen timing and execution, this visit could've easily been a five-star experience. read more

Moondance is known for a great burger, so I had to try it! It was great but I'm not sure it was worth $20. If I return, I would try a more unique dish. I will say that the servers are knowledgable about special dishes and are also extremely polite, so I was satisfied with the service. It's probably best to go here in the evening, because the ambience is full of dim lighting and moody dark tones. They sometimes have live music as well. This would be a nice date spot! read more

Moondance grill is a nice upscale restaurant with a dress code. We came for lunch before heading to the airport, I was so glad it wasn't a problem. This restaurant was awesome. From the wait staff, cocktails, food, dessert and the rest room was immaculate. We were a party of 8 and our waiter was he was on point with everything and knew the menu and made great recommendations. I started with a smoked old fashion cocktail and the presentation was awesome. I kept staring at the drink, the waiter had to tell me to take the drink. The drink had a touch of sweetness to it that gave it an extra punch. Then I ordered the she crab soup, it was a nice creamy broth with pieces of crabs really tasty. The seafood Po boy sandwich was different I never had fried Oysters in my sandwich and that combination with the shrimp made the sandwich exceptional. I didnt have dessert but my cousin ordered the brownie and ice cream to go. It looked really good and they were happy with it so they ordered 2 of them. This restaurant is really worth the visit. My husband and I went for the first time today. It was our 6th wedding anniversary, we had reservations and were seated right away. Sydney our server ( who is a dead ringer for Dakota Fanning) greeted us and gave us a hand signed anniversary card ( very nice touch Moondance). She was very thorough with the menu. We started with the spinach dip and short rib tacos, I could have bathed in the tacos, so tender and seasoned to perfection. The bread service of soft pretzel rolls and sweet cream butter were a unique touch. The main entrees were the New York strip for me and my husband got the Hawaiian ribeye, these were the best steaks we have had in a long time, Sydney recommended the Hawaiian and it did not disappoint. Sydney was the other star, our drinks never got even a third empty, she was extremely attentive and always a smile on her face. She told us about the desserts that weren't on the menu as well. Upscale interior in Germantown, spacious interior and soft lit ambiance. Kind of cavernous, but comfortable. Service was very good, on par with Southern Social or Limelight (with Iris, Capital Grill, or Erling Jensen as the high water marks). Food was very good, thought somewhat basic for what is offered. Had swordfish: perfectly cooked, lightly seasoned with a buttery cream-based sauce. Didn't have the rice, as I'm not a huge grain-as-filler person. The broccolini was, gasp, the best thing on the plate. The Brussel sprouts were good, but middle of the road compared to what I've had elsewhere. (What's odd is that this was a Bonefish Grill caliber meal, where Bonefish's Brussels were far superior; though I would, all told, pick Moondance between the two- dress code and proximity to home being the factors that tip the balance.). Others at the table had the short ribs (over-salted and a bit fatty- it was akin to a pot roast) and diver scallops, which looked to be the belle of the ball. The deserts are gargantuan. The cheesecake was good, the brownie I didn't try (not a big chocolate person). The bread pudding, my go-to, was ho-hum (Second Line, Iris, El Mero Taco as the standard bearers here in Memphis). All in all, room for improvement, though a solid showing but lacked the notable flair that should come with high brow cuisine. read more
