Was in town this past weekend for a visit and wanted to try this place out. HORRIBLE. Nice ambience but to be in a place in the summer and the air IS NOT working is crazy. Did not know this til after being seated and ordered food. Upon arrival for reservation was not told this to me or warned of this. Not to mention they have your phone number for reservation so call and alert the customer of this. I asked for a manger, not one showed to address the issue meanwhile the workers are walking around hot and my waitress seemed stressed or agitated as she sweating. Once one table left they pointed a fan towards our direction which was some better but if I would have known before hand I could have changed my mind and canceled this reservation all together. read more

Over priced dark dank restaurant. Everything was black with flowers on the ceiling. I thought it was upscale but I was wrong.

The atmosphere is impressive and the prices reflect that -- I just wish the food had done the same. I went with friends and we planned on getting the famed carousel of desserts, but my friend said the portion sizes weren't worth the price. I should've kept that in mind when I ordered the shrimp. Oh my, they were like baby cocktail shrimp. My friend seemed to have been happy with her wings though-they looked kinda small to me though. Docks off 5th has done an excellent job of promoting their location because this has been on my date night list for a while now. My husband and I went on a couple date night, and we were both initially almost going to turn around because we thought that we'd have to pay to get on Beale Street to get there. However, Josh let the way and got us in through the Docks entrance. Once we get in, we were impressed by the unique design, and the vibey ambience. There are several bars, with one looking like it's designed for small parties, the restaurant area, which has a bar and seating, the patio bar, and then the upstairs bars, which just opened this weekend. During my first visit, Tequila was so kind to show us around the upstairs before it opened and to let us know about space. The second time I went was yesterday for girls night, which is why I am writing this post. I experienced excellent service from the people at the door who were all smiles and ready to help, to Kendall, the bartender, who made sure we enjoyed our drinks and brought us water without us asking for it. The patio area was quite nice, and there wasn't much of a crowd when we went, but it was also on a Sunday. Both of my experiences, the drinks and food were excellent. They were a little pricier, but that is expected downtown. I really enjoyed the dessert carousel, the wings, and those ribs boy oh boy, those ribs! Let's talk about parking. The first time I went, I parked at the Peabody Place garage. I do not recommend this if you have heels on. It's just not worth this, sis. The second time, I parked in the parking lot that is directly in front of Docks and across the street from the Peabody Place garage. Overall, I love this place and I am really looking forward to going back again. Most of all, I enjoyed having an option on Beale Street that felt like a bit of an oasis. read more

Ehhh, it's new and it's got some kinks that need to be worked out... Made a reservation for my birthday and was super excited to give them a try. The decor...BEAUTIFUL! Loved it so much. Definitely picturesque. However, like many others have mentioned...it's HOT! An uncomfortable type of hot. I was sweating almost immediately after sitting down. I really hope they can get the air situation fixed quickly, because it has the potential to be a really nice spot. Our server, Dee, did a pretty good job. She was timely and made sure we had what we needed. The food was pretty good overall. I do think it's a bit overpriced, but given the area and ambiance...I can understand it. They were out of a few items I wanted to try, so we settled with the seafood paradise and the shrimp and grits. Good portions. The seafood paradise was my fav of the night. Good flavors and a little spicy. The shrimp and grits were good as well, but nothing over the top spectacular. I ordered a watermelon lemon drop. It's was cutesy, but not very strong. I did have to get them to remake it, because there was a gnat in my first drink. Overall, it was okay, but I think they need a little work. I got the chance to visit here and I'm so glad I did. As of right now this place is reservation only for tables and bar is first come first serve. If you are a local memphian you know that this was the old Jerry Lee Lewis spot and Docks on 5th gave this place a complete makeover! Very well decorated and and a much needed refresh! The service was great. I had reservations got there a little late and they still seated us. I will say that the place was hot as hell but the manager did explain that the air did go out but was going to be fixed the next day. Our server David was great. He was very nice and knowledgeable about the menu. I got the chance to try a little bit of everything. Which I was so happy about. We started with the sliders , sticky ribs , wings and crab soup. All was very tasty. My favorite was the sticky ribs. They were literally fall off the bone. The entrees we got the seafood paradise, seafood pasta , the steak and frites and the chicken sandwich. Yes I know a lot of food haha. The chicken sandwich was underwhelming. I think it had to much sauce on it. But the steak was top tier! For dessert we go the merry go round platter! It comes out with sparklers which was a fun touch. We got the watermelon lemon drop , the margarita to drink and it was really good! This is a perfect place for a girls night, date night or night out with the fam! This is a great addition to downtown Memphis Beale street! read more

They are doing some really good cooking here. We had the fish and chips and the island salmon. The salmon was amazing and the rice felt like the star. A really great dish. The fish and chips were good but the portion size was less than expected. It came with 2 thin pieces and 2 square cubes of batter. The service could have been a bit better as well. I had to call my waitress to get a water refill and to pay. I would've appreciated if she checked on us more frequent. The service wasn't bad at all, but it could have been better. read more

Our First -- and Likely Last -- Visit We visited this new spot to celebrate our girlfriend's birthday, and whew... it was an experience. Starting with the positives: our server was kind and had a great sense of humor, and the decor was cutesy and inviting. Unfortunately, that's where the positives ended. The food was mediocre at best -- heavily drenched in chili sauce and lacking seasoning. We ordered the salmon and the "Island Paradise" (served in a pineapple), but both dishes tasted precooked and reheated. The rice, especially, felt stale. I tried to substitute my vegetables and was told I couldn't, which was disappointing. Even the crispy Brussels sprouts I ordered came out lukewarm. The cocktails? Overly sweet. You could literally see the syrup settled in the glass. Now, the environment: unbearable. The restaurant was extremely hot inside, with no functioning A/C. I walked in happy and left irritated. The staff were visibly struggling -- one gentleman serving food had sweat dripping down his face. It was difficult to ignore the thought that it could've ended up in our food. The restroom smelled strongly of urine -- like a neglected public hallway -- and the door was hard to open. Our entire group took just a few bites and pushed our plates away. We dine out regularly, and this was hands down the worst dining experience we've had in Memphis. I understand the restaurant is new, but charging 20% gratuity after paying $200+ for such a subpar experience feels wrong. While I genuinely feel for the staff who tried their best in those miserable conditions, this is not a place I see myself returning to. read more

Docks Off 5th has good food and is definitely worth trying if you're in Memphis, but expect New York prices without the luxury-level service. The manager has a 'little Napoleon' attitude, which can make the experience frustrating. The atmosphere and menu are great, but management could use a reality check this is Memphis, not New York where the other restaurant is located. FYI, they charge a $20 cake fee just to refrigerate and cut your birthday cake. read more

This place is expensive and worth every penny but there is no way I would pay $24 for the delayed service received. After waiting in the rain I was surprised no one opened the door to welcome us at 5:00. We did not realize they did not open until 5:00 so, we took a walk and waited, they knew we were waiting as they opened the doors for a delivery while we were standing there. I, would have invited us in as it was only seven minutes early. Unfortunately our first contact was with the rude hostess who chose to argue with us as we entered about not having a reservation. We were literally the only ones there! Thankfully everyone else was wonderful, our waitress Ty was exceptional, the lobster bisque was literally the best I have ever had, amazing! The two gentlemen that brought our entrees were professional and helpful. We did not catch the name of the young man that took the time to walk us out to tell us places we might enjoy on our stay knowing we love architecture, (he had multi colored hair). We were really looking forward to this place, and upon walking in loved the cool vibe and decor. Unfortunately, it was all downhill from there. First of all, if you're going to have a dress code, please enforce it. Especially among your own staff. I was so glad to see the huge chalkboard with warnings like "No exposed buttocks...No sports jerseys, doo rags" etc. Then we walked around the corner into the dining room and immediately saw almost every table violating one of the "codes." Then we noticed a couple of bus boys walking around wearing doo rags as well, so the dress code thing was an utter joke. And I'll never understand why 350+ pound women think it's a good look to squeeze themselves into tiny plastic dresses made for someone who weighs 100lbs. You look disgusting, how can you not see that? They were everywhere. Talk about ruining your appetite - picture an acre of exposed flesh that looks like chewed bubblegum. Just awful. Then there's the 3-inch long gaudy glittery fingernails whose only purpose seemed to be to hold a cell phone a foot away from their face while they talk loudly on speaker. Just so much trashy appearances and total lack of social awareness or shame. Yuck. The fact that gratuity is included in your bill should tell you everything you need to know about the demographic this place is apparently fine with catering to. Very unfortunate because it has a cool vibe and several of the items we ordered were very good (tempura cauliflower, the sticky ribs, lobster bisque & the Cajun fettuccini Alfredo.) The rest was just okay (bone dry Caesar salad, overcooked filet - ordered medium rare and when the check came I noticed they'd written medium well, and the chicken parm very average.) Waiter was nice, but just missed basic stuff - never asked if we wanted another round of drinks from the bar, had to ask him for more water when our glasses were completely empty, and didn't cross anyone's mind to bring a separate plate and silverware for 2 at our table who split an entree - we had to ask, and then wait too long, etc. Things that should be a no-brainer at a place where two couples drop over $300. Unless they start enforcing their dress code and basic human civility & manners over ghetto thug Walmart ambience, I don't know if they'll last very long. Or maybe the automatic gratuity will help keep them afloat, but we won't go back. read more

The ambience is probably the best thing this place has going for it -- nice location, good vibes, and a space that feels curated for the area. Unfortunately, that's also what you're really paying for. The food is just okay across the board. Nothing was bad, but nothing stood out either, except for the sticky ribs, which were genuinely good and easily the highlight of the meal. Everything else felt forgettable, especially considering the prices. What really misses the mark is the value. The cost doesn't reflect the quality of the food or the level of service although our server was wonderful I will say but generally for the price point you expect more. It feels like the prices are there to keep the doors open on Beale rather than to match what's actually being served. For what you pay, you expect better execution, better service, or at least consistency -- and it just wasn't there. Overall, it's giving fun brunch spot not nice dinner energy : great aesthetic, big prices, but the food and service don't quite live up to the hype. If you're coming for the vibes and one solid dish, maybe. If you're coming hungry and expecting your money's worth, probably not. Not to mention for a party of three, the gratuities were already added I've never seen that before. read more

First off the AC is minimal to nonexistent which made for a hot and muggy dinner. I got the salmon, which was dry and overcooked (although the mango glaze was quite good). The service was mediocre--they never brought out a salad that was ordered and the waitress didn't come back to the table after taking our orders until we were done eating. Finally the prices...be aware that they tack on a 20% service charge to all tables on top of a 3% credit card fee if you pay with your card. Where do I begin? My reservation was at 5pm for my birthday dinner. I arrived and immediately noticed the temperature. My party was seated and I pulled the server to the side and asked if their air was working. He said there was no air, and that he could get me a glass of water for the inconvenience. Yes, you read that right. One of my guests was 7 months pregnant and could not bear the temperature. She stated she had entered through the other side and that it was cooler on that side. I asked to be moved to that side and was told that they could not accommodate my large party on the other side, but they said my pregnant friend and her husband could go over there. I later found out they sat her and her huge pregnant belly at the bar. I then asked why the other table had a tower fan and if another one was available, I was told that it was the only tower fan for the entire room and I could have it once they left. My boyfriend and the waiter proceeded to move the entire table under the fan that was posted on one of the corners of the wall so that we could at least feel a breeze. Drinks were underwhelming, and watered down. Several people in my party said their food was cold, and I was served cold food as well. When they brought my food out the second time and I tried it, I immediately recognized it as a Tyson frozen chicken patty that they had simply covered in hot honey sauce. The waiter admitted that's what it was. Not sure if they ran out of fresh chicken breasts or what. This whole time the manager was extremely rude and not accommodating at all. I told him he should have told the people that had reservations that the air was out. He said "at the end of the day, we're all in the same situation." HOT! The only difference is that he chooses to come and work in those conditions. He didn't give me the opportunity because he didn't disclose that information prior to my visit. I later found out from a waitress that the air has not worked since they've been open. Having no air in Memphis is unacceptable, and having piss poor management and a lack of care will run you out of Memphis soon. The young waiter with the blonde locs did his best under those conditions, but I hope he finds somewhere else to work soon. Poor management, sub par food and drinks, dark with no air.... it's a no for me! Do better! read more

I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. The food was ok but could've been more flavorful. The service was decent. However, I was very disappointed with how my daughter's bill was handled. My 17 year old daughter went here for her birthday. She paid her bill but the amount charged to her account was over $100 more than what was on her receipt she signed. I called the location for days & left a voicemail. No one never answered or called me back. I found them on Instagram and sent an DM. They replied back and provided me with an email address to send the information to be reviewed. My daughter emailed the receipt and a screenshot of what debited her account. They emailed her back and said that they would look for the transaction and handle it. Almost a week later they sent an email saying they were refunding her for the tip. That's crazy because gratuities were already included in the price. My daughter placed a zero on the line for additional tip and brought the total down. The total of the tip was $102.33. It was more than the actual check. I would think that should've raised a red flag since the total check was $100.95. The tip wasn't even an even amount. Because of this, I will never patronize them again. I gave it a star to post my honest review. I wish I could've given them 0 stars. All I will say is please check your card after dining here. read more

The atmosphere was not accommodating with a reserved private party. It was 101 degrees outside at 4 PM. The entry was very warm in temperature and the designated dinning hall was not equipped to adequately hold 30 people. The waiters were ill prepared in serving and getting orders correct ftom a pre selected menu. Utensils were not available for many of the guests. The host paid a substantial price for this inadequate service. The temperature in the dining space was running on a floor A/C unit. Therefore, people were business dressed and sweating. The food was not all bad. Many guests including myself complained that the food was too spicy. Food presentation was not good. This was not good all around. Will not go back. No thanks. read more

We came in as 3 adults & 1 child & the hostess told us that we couldn't have my daughter there after 8pm when our reservation is at 7pm (nowhere on their website is it posted) when I asked why couldn't we be sat quickly then so we could get through dinner quickly she just looked at me like it wasn't her problem. The manager stepped in who was really nice & got us to our table quickly & that's when we noticed there was no A/C but the ambiance so was super cute & it was nighttime so we ignored being a little warm. It smelled like old fish in there which I know is partially because fish smells cling to the walls no matter what. We didn't get napkins or silverware when we sat down but we figured they'd come out with food. My daughter was only offered water after everyone else had been given some which seemed odd. They eventually brought her an extremely watered down lemonade & brought out our drinks which weren't really cold (more than likely because of the lack of ac) The drinks were good & comparable to the bar throughout Beale street. We ordered two appetizers (both good but messy) but was not given silverware or napkins. Then we ordered entrees & the waitress was super nice about accommodating my daughter's request about food not touching. Our food came out 15min before my daughters & we still didn't get silverware until the food runner (super nice guy) brought us some after we asked. The food was decent & we ordered another round of drinks which the bartender brought to us. We also ordered the Ferris wheel which was tolerable at best & they kept singing happy birthday even though it wasn't anyone's birthday. When I got the bill I assumed the bill would be about $300 without the tip but instead gratuity was added before tax (really weird) & it was 20% so after tax it was $505 (I tipped another $10 to the waitress & $20 to the bartender in cash so that's not in the total) which is a little wild for Memphis when we just went to porch & parlor for $400 after a 20% tip & ordered more drinks. All in all I wouldn't go back for anything but the nice waitress & bartender. read more
