Sampler plate: Seafood, gumbo, red beans, and rice, jambalaya, and chili
Bridget M.

Love this place the food is so good. I love the seafood gumbo the flavour is so just right!. And the salads are huge! Staff are friendly. And service is quick. I hear the wings are really good here too. I haven't tried them yet. Next time.!

Cajun queso

Service was very slow, we ended up having to ask another waiter to let our waiter know we needed our check, had to request refills. However, our waiter was very polite! It just seemed to move very slow there. Food was just okay. The "Cajun queso" was lukewarm and tasted similar to regular white panchos cheese dip, but the seasoning on the tortilla chips was good! The debris sandwich was supposed to come with a sauce on it and it did not. The blackened chicken sandwich was not blackened (I suspect it was just grilled and there may have been a mix up) and it was supposed to have no cheese and honey mustard. There was cheese and no honey mustard. It tasted good enough though. We would have normally tried to correct our orders, but with the service being on the slow side, we decided to just live with it as the food was good enough! Ambience is your average bar and grill, good music!

Cajun salad with shrimp

Had a great time for lunch Tuesday. Caught up with friends I had not seen in a long time. I ordered the Cajun salad with grilled shrimp. I had the vinegar and oil dressing. It was good and light. I ordered cheese on the side. Our waiter Joey was great. He was nice and checked on us periodically. The restaurant kind of looks old on the outside. The parking lot has spaces on both sides. It has a bar with many tables and chairs. The inside is okay. Looks clean and neat. The food is consistently tasty. I will be back with my friends.

We lucked up and arrived 2 hours before closing at 3pm. They were having an abbreviated day to honor their workers. That was an awesome gesture to celebrate their staff. We decided to order the chargrilled oysters for appetizers. They were good but they almost overdid it with the cheese. It caused the oysters to be a tad salty. Next, we ordered the "classic" Zydeco Wings! They are always a hit. That coating of that sweet and hint of heat sauce is always stellar. If you ever decide to visit, these are a must! There wasn't a wait and the atmosphere was chill. If you want more of a laid back feel go before 4. After 5, it feels more like a bar.

Ok so we were visiting and went to this place based on TikTok reviews. It wasn't bad but they oversold it. I am from Louisiana so I'm a bit picky on my food. For starters the jalapeño margarita was great, much better than the regular margarita and just leave the French 75 alone....this is not a French 75 establishment! The dip was ok, but a bit greasy and way too much cheese for my liking. The wings were good but eat them hot because they are breaded. I'm not a fan of breaded wings. The salad was crisp and the lettuce was fresh, again they can hold all the Parmesan. They must get a discount on cheese cause it way too much in every dish. We also had the oysters and I wouldn't get those again but again I live in LA where oysters are fresh and the taste is phenomenal. Overall not a bad chill spot and they had the game on. Our waiter was decent too, nothing to rave about.

Came an hour before closing, the waiter was polite and good with service. The food I received tasted really good. However, the only thing I was disappointed with was the Beignets. I thought they did not give New Orleans Beignet look, but tasted well. I probably would go back due to how full the meal was

Just recently left and I typically love it, but I also never order this much. When we came it wasn't a long wait which was good. We got sat down quickly and received water. Our waitress was so sweet. When we ordered, we got two drinks, seafood dip, oysters, and wings. The food took so long to come out, we were trying not to drink our drinks so fast. When we did receive our food it was just okay. I definitely have had tastier food. We spend almost $80 and wasn't satisfied and had to go somewhere else later. Hopefully when I can go back I can have a better experience.

I try my hardest to love this place and they just make it so damn hard. I have never had two good experiences here in a row. Honestly, it's like every third or fourth visit that truly enjoy either the food or the service. I've never had a time when everything just clicked. The place is dark, dirty, and kind of a shithole really. I can't say much other than that. I say this as just a warning. It isn't gross, old, dirty, and Overton Square like. That's not necessarily a terrible thing, I eat at lots of dark and dirty places that I love. The servers range from bubbly and nice, then you can also get inefficient and forgetful, but wait, there are also a straight up assholes too! Me being an asshole, I just don't like competition, ya know. Anyway.... Why come back? It sure isn't the damn meatloaf special. It's terrible. If you read this far, consider yourself warned. Don't get the meatloaf!! I've fucked that up twice now! It's the damn Red Beans & Rice, and the Zydeco Wings, that keep this fat man arriving time and again. There is only one better RB&R in Memphis and the place rhymes with Feast Bend in the Southwind area. Zydeco wings are fantastic, but are now up to like $45 for 10 I think. Some dumb crap like that anyway. I'll be back I guess since you said I have too... '24 - 53/100

Shrimp Po' Boy & Dirty Rice

Crawfish salad?? WRONG! Look again & you'll barely see bread under that generous serving of crunchy crustaceans, lettuce, tomato, & sauce. That's how they serve their Po' Boys. The crawfish breading had a great flavor with just the right amount of spice. The bread was soft but had a toasty crisp to it. My side of dirty rice was tasty & had a bit of heat behind it. Their parking lot is small but the interior is wide open & spacious. Neat decor & plenty of seating. All to-go orders are placed online so I can't adequately comment on the service.

A friend told us to try the wings here and at first I was confused since it's definitely a Cajun style restaurant. But let me tell you, these are quite literally the best wings I've ever had. Our service was great and the atmosphere is quite nice. 100% will return to eat these again.

Beignets

We had a basket of beignets which were delicious. I also ordered a Georgia peach cocktail. I'm not a big fan of some cocktails, so I'm not the one that you should base your opinion off of as it was strong to me, but that might be good for other people. I would definitely check this place out. It had great service and it's a fun environment.

Went to Bayou bar and grill for Mother's Day and the food was delicious! My momma raved about her catfish basket and service was exceptional. My order was catfish poboy was very good. Located in beautiful midtown neighborhood. Give this restaurant a try give more than generous portions A+ stars

I'd like to change my 1-star rating to 4-star. I really loved the ambiance and appreciated that I wasn't the only solo female diner. I just wish they had the stuffed shrimp, but the service was decent overall.

Hurricane (sorry I already started it - so good)!

The zydeco wings are the bomb.com! Everything comes out hot, hot! I wouldn't get the fish again, it's a lot of fish fry and not enough fish.

The menu features a broad range of options, showcasing both classic and innovative dishes made from fresh ingredients. Each dish(catfish plate, chicken Alfredo, wing plate, boudin eggs rolls & that velvet punch) we chose was carefully prepared and beautifully presented, highlighting the attention to detail. The service was consistently friendly and attentive, contributing to a welcoming environment. The Velvet Ditch located in downtown Oxford, The Square…read more This is a typical college bar type restaurant with outdoor beer garden and seating with televisions and a raucous crowd. We came in to taste the local flair while on an Ole Miss college tour. The wait was lengthy however you could still stand at the bar and have a drink while you waited. We ordered a round of beers and checked out the place and the people. The bartenders were very nice, a lot of southern hospitality in this town. We were finally seated and ordered a seafood platter and a few orders of seafood gumbo. The gumbo was absolutely delicious. Shrimp that tasted amazing and sausage with great flavor. Rice cooked perfectly and overall a great dish. The seafood platter in my opinion, not worth the money. It was okay, but nothing spectacular. Coming from vegas the bar is set high on dining out as we have the best of the best in our city when it comes to places to eat. While this was a fun place to hang, it's expensive for a college town. The ahi tuna nachos at this place are absolutely amazing and a must try. Best thing I ate there. A ton of Ahi and a huge portion. There was more ahi than chips. Clean place, fair service at the tables, waitress delivered 4 entrees and saint bring the 11 year olds dinner. He sat for 15 minutes and I had to hunt her down to ask where the kids food was. Serve everyone at the same time, it's rude not to. This was a big annoyance for me as the child sits with no food while everyone else is eating for 15-20 minutes.

I ordered the griddle cakes with crispy bacon. The pancakes came with honey butter and syrup. Also had a pretty decent cup of coffee. My friend ordered the club sandwich with fries. The fries were nice and hot. She said it was very good. We had a fin time dining there. There are plenty tables and chairs as well as booths. The place is decorated with a variety of sports pics, articles and Christmas decor. It is a very cozy diner. There is parking in the front and back of the restaurant. Our server Christopher was awesome! He was very nice and friendly. There was a steady flow of customers which is a good sign. I will return to try some lunch specials. Good experience!

Time for an update! Sucks to write this one, but it's where I stand on this joint!…read more Since my last review, the owner died, the place caught fire and closed under the new owner, was then bought by another restaurateur couple and a their partner. They remodeled it, filled the kitchen with new equipment and food, slapped some paint on the walls, then let er rip! The operators here also own and operate Bain's BBQ just down the road. I've been here three times now since it reopened. It would be more, but here we go... They have daily lunch meat and threes that rotate by day of the week. I always check the website to see what's being offered before I go to places like this so I can see if they have something I want. I really dig these kind of lunches, I seek them out when I want a "solo decompress, don't talk to me lunch", so I want to like this place so much. I quit going to Bain's a year or more ago because of never knowing what they are selling. The menu is never updated on the site, or even there at all now. Every time you walk in it's a surprise! I just checked again to verify, and yep, still no menu, only online order, but 60-70% of it is "out of stock". Ugh. When they do have the menu posted, it's normally wrong. This seems to be a trend between the two places now. The first time I was here I was underwhelmed. Country Fried Steak tasted funny and I had the worst cornbread I had ever had. Not even sure how it was made that terribly. I do hope they fixed it. Second visit and this time the printed menu didn't match the website, but they had the websites menu available, strange. The website showed fried chicken livers available, but the dine in menu did not. When I asked, they said they in fact did have them and it was a mistake on the dine in menu. Huh? That time I did have the chicken livers and they were pretty good, and I also one of the best rolls that I have ever had in my life! Shockingly good!! Better than my grandmothers. Please don't smite me from the grave, Gram. Both times the sides were just fair. Same thing at Bain's, so it makes sense. Today I walk in and there is one table sat in the whole place at 12:15. I got a bad feeling from the jump as I am pretty sure the food is all done and just sitting there being held on a hot well table. If it ain't busy, it just sits. This place used to be packed every single time you walked in! I sit down and the old guy with the really cool hairdo comes and gets my drink order and gives me a menu. The livers are not on the menu again... My last visit was 8 months ago, I checked my pic. I knew what I wanted because I had peeped the site and confirmed they had Fried Chicken Livers just like last time, so it's all good, right? Guess what?!?! Still not on the dine in menu so I'm like "can I get the livers", cool guys says no livers and walked away. 8 months later, it's still not corrected. I sit there for a minute, and got pissed off and then, I looked around, thought about eating old meatloaf or fried chicken, took a sip of my water, and I got up and left without ordering. My advice, (that I understand that absolutely no one gives a shit about) is this. Stop putting so much effort into your Social Media BS and get your shit together on the menu/websites of the business's you run. It's cute and all for you to eat at other Memphis BBQ joints, I like bbq too, but let's shore up your own operations before you do so. That way we can all enjoy all of our meals together and you stay in business. I used to love both of these places, but now I fear they are just going to be memories of was once a couple of my favorites. One more try.... I'll update again if it's all good then. '26 - 19
