Beef tenderloin L
James M.

Quaintly located where there is plenty of parking it spoke to the locals in a upscale way. The designed was cheque and intimate. The service was personable and very helpful. I came with a friend and my mind and tastebuds were on steak... they didn't let us down. The apps we had we fantastic too. The bread and cheese player we ordered opened our eyes to delicious combinations of blueberry jam (which they make there) with a creamy cheese, that I wish I can remember the name of, then drizzled with honey they source locally! The bite was heaven. Then the dinner came. The beef tenderloin presented so beautifully and tasted so much better. The mushroom sauce was perfection with finely balanced flavors. Then I paired it with an Earthquake Cab, . Chef kiss!! Everything was absolutely memorable and enjoyable. One thing they could do to add to the ambiance is blocking the headlights of cars from shining into their restaurant. There are simple things that can be rolled out in front the restaurant to assist. But even with the lights shining they are the best thing I've had in a long time.

For our very first time here, my wife and I recently had a weekday dinner. It was a special occasion/celebration, so we decided to splurge a little bit. I'm certainly glad that we made reservations, because as the evening wore on, the entire restaurant eventually became completely filled with patrons. Even all of the seats at the small bar were occupied. The eatery is located within an unassuming suburban strip mall, but to never judge a book by its cover is an excellent metaphor in this instance. Be were ably served by a waiter named Aaron, who was very competent, knowledgeable, and friendly. His level of service was excellent, but not overwhelming. We began with (and shared) the mushroom toast, and now I understand what all of the hype was about! It could be an entree of its own, given the generous size. The thickly-cut Wisconsin bacon within the mushroom topping was delicious and well-balanced with the Gruyere cheese, caramelized onions, poached egg, and beurre blanc. This is something that I'd definitely order again. Next, we opted for the three cheese sampler. We went with a blue cheese, a Spanish cheese containing specks of truffle mushrooms, and a Welsh cheese. It came with the most perfectly made crostini I've ever eaten. Thinly sliced and perfectly textured. Not overly hard or dry, either. We loved the sides of blueberry jam, honey, and plain blueberries. For my entree, I simply couldn't resist the pan-roasted black Angus beef tenderloin. It was placed on top of a delicious mushrooms and a truffle demi-glacé. This was the most perfectly cooked steak that I have had in many years. My only trifle was that the whipped potatoes on the side weren't hot, but rather lukewarm (tasty nonetheless). My wife quite enjoyed her pan-seared Alaskan halibut on top of a bed of mushroom risotto, arugula oil, and baby herbs. I sampled some of the fish and risotto (perfection). For desert, we shared a three sample of gelato and sorbet. The lemon sorbet was nicely tart, and almost acted as a palate cleanser due to its low sugar content. It paired nicely with the coffee gelato and the coconut sorbet! Since it was a special occasion, they even put a candle on our frozen dessert. Also, a celebratory card was in a nice envelope when we first arrived at our table. Both very nice touches. I can definitely see why this cozy establishment's chef was nominated for a James Beard Award. I plan on returning again, and highly recommend this Germantown gem.

Caveat...I have not been to Blue Honey Bistro since they changed to open order and expanded. When I went it was a small intimate spot with a prix fix menu and was extremely delicious. It looks like some of the same items are still there. The hostess/chef's significant other was so very sweet. She walked us through the menu and really made the experience nice. I plan on returning soon but it definitely was a little shiny jewel in Germantown

This is a tiny little restaurant with virtually no ambiance beyond being a storefront. But, don't let that scare you off. The service is excellent and the food is very good. The four of us were seated quickly for our reserved time and ordered cocktails. Very good job on each of those, with our server also being the bartender. Remember, I said this was a small place. On to salads, two Mixed Green and two beet. Both were very nicely done, especially the whipped goat cheese on the mixed green salad. For entrees, it was again a 2 choices split. Both of the ladies selected Pasta Bolognese with burrata. This was a very nice presentation and very nice dish overall. The men each had the Short Ribs. Personally, I just didn't feel this dish lived up to its potential in terms of flavor. The roasted brussels sprouts were overdone, the truffle cheese grits didn't pack the punch that I thought this combination should punch, and the ribs themselves were plentiful (good size helping), but a bit overdone. I really like small independent restaurants and I want this to be a great success for a long time to come. I will likely give it another try in the future but for me the rating is a heavy 3 1/2. Because that is not a choice, I mark it as a 4.

Such a Generic name that doesn't hint or celebrate its Greek heritage or menu, why? If not a local,…read morehow many more looking for a twist on your American grill/steakhouse, might try you on for size? Owner's Yelp About Business info doesn't clue you in either that the Grille has Greek roots and menu influence. By digging to see the names Taras, Dimitri, and (Jim) Katsoutes, the original owner of Jim's downtown 1921 would you guess, and as a 3rd gen family business they obviously have a following. And after that buildup, just not us, albeit that we all ordered fish. With ribs in town, limiting the week's caloric uptake was a check for the ticker ;) Shrimp cocktail $21 comes with 1/2 doz long & large, grilled with a steak like pepper seasoning, ie Grecian, served warm in cold cocktail sauce edged by bibb lettuce that looks great in a stainless cocktail stem, but no one was eating haha. 3.75/5* but my BIL who is a local, person always gets. For him it's a 5. Greek Salad $24 with salmon aok but again BIL loves this place. Norwegian Salmon entree $27 was overcooked, ordered rare and blackened, and not spicy at all. Entree comes with 2 sides; hubby chose a side salad which was just blah spring greens, tomato, cuke and croutons, but a cloyingly sweet balsamic dressing didn't help either despite 3 lemon wedges. Better option would be if they offeres a Greek side salad. Mash, the other side was fine. 3.5/5* Halibut fresh catch of day $37 is about 6-7oz asked for chargrilled, it was more delicate like cod, lacking the flakey firmness and oilier flavor or halibut. Select your sauce: a Mediterranean-- feta roma red onion, but a light hollandaise? & bacon??..is that a TN thing to add bacon to everything lol. Or the Creole with Parmesan, again why add Cheese/fat to a sauce that should be perfect without? the Lemon Garlic is butter based so whileI hoped for 2 great sauces, I steered to a heart healthier olive oil & oregano blend on the side. But it was just kinda oily without fruitiness or burny polyphenols of EVOO; the Lemon wedge was best. Turnip Greens cooked with ham hock, was not noticeable--fine by me, cooked down to texture of canned spinach and not at all bitter. Liked this the best, shockingly lol. Really wanted to try the Grecian rice but it's cooked in yes, butter, that fat suck again sigh, with Chix broth topped with a tomato Greek spice. So stuck to a plain Baked Idaho tater dressed down skinny sans bacon n cheese. 3.5/5* Good pour of Sazerac Rye in Old Fashioned. Full glass of little rocks suck though vs the signature big block ice for pro's, that waters it too quickly and visually no comparison. 3/5* $14.42 ok, but sticker shock another $4.20 additional Liquor Tax for 2 drinks, damn. I am sure the full duty Hickory n Oak grilled Lamb Chops & steaks are great but nearing $60 I'd choose elsewhere based on our fish dishes, while edible were not worthy of the billing and nothing we'd crave, ditto for the sides. Too bad because the true Greek influence has been buttered, cheesed, and baconed out. Dining Room is busy and energetic which is always good, lots of waitstaff, moody medium and dark brown decor, quite inviting. Jason did a great job on our table, but the proof, not in this pudding today. Thanks anyway, now moving onto those Ribs, Charlie Vergos :D

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner in its sun room with a neutral natural palette that I once indulged myself at the Rose Tavern in Canandaigua in Upstate New York. That nostalgic feeling of being in a beautiful tavern is pure delight. Absolutely beautiful restaurant, truly deserves limelight recognition in Germantown. Our darling Annalise server was extremely friendly. We loved the presentation of our dinner, but the octopus was a bit soft for our taste. I've had plenty of octopus in other cities and understand the dish is typically more expensive, but a small single mediocre tentacle is quite pricey for $28. I personally prefer a crispy and firmer chew for octopus. The scallops and shishito peppers were a delightful pairing. Valet parking shouldn't be forced upon the customer though? I felt bad that I don't carry cash to tip the valet, and valet is mandatory unless you want to park on the side streets and walk over. Do carry any cash! I wish that a portion of the parking lot was open for self parking though as those boys don't need to help out every guest who don't need valet and subjecting them to wait around for the boys to grab cars that we're perfectly capable of doing ourselves.

I ordered the shrimp tossed in chili teriyaki sauce, as listed on the menu. The shrimp were fried extremely hard and arrived cold. Instead of being properly tossed in sauce, there was only a minimal drizzle on a few pieces, which made the dish feel incomplete and not as described. The catfish nuggets and fries were just okay--again, both arrived cold, which seems to be a consistent issue with food temperature. The bar experience was also disappointing. The green tea shots were not made correctly, and the "double" shot of Jack Daniels was poured more like a single. In addition, the menu did not include any drink options or pricing. While the waiter mentioned they have a full bar, having a drink menu (even a basic one) would make ordering much easier and more enjoyable, especially for guests looking to try something new. Service-wise, the waiter was clearly overwhelmed and not very available, but when she did come to the table, she was very kind and pleasant. No complaints about her attitude--just a staffing or management issue. Overall, there's definitely potential here, but improvements are needed in food temperature, menu accuracy, and bar consistency to elevate the experience.
