We ended up having a wonderful experience!! The restaurant itself is spacious and has multiple sections/rooms to be seated. I think it's a great spot for larger parties! To drink I ordered the, "i love yuzu much sakè cocktail," i HIGHLY recommend it. It was so refreshing and crisp. Our friends and I went family-style with our sushi order. We ordered and recommend the following: The Rock-n-Roll, Texas Surf-n-Turf, Summertime, Tarantula and The Alone Together. Our server helped us with our picks and we appreciated her expertise and suggestions! It would take me too long to describe what we liked about each individual roll, so just know that they tasted fresh and were great portions to share for 4 of us! Always come here when visiting my brother because it's his favorite sushi place in Austin. The food is great and the fish is nice and fresh. The ochazuke was really good and something new for me. It comes with a kettle of broth on the side to pour over the rice and fish. The rolls were really good but the fat samurai was a bit difficult to eat bc of the size. It was quite busy and we did wait a little bit before we got sat. Our server was very nice and attentive when we needed something. It's quite packed in there and tables are a little close, so just be careful when you walk between some. It's a very warm environment with dim lights and a nice relaxed feel. A casual place to eat. This was some of the best sushi I've ever had in my life! My friend and I were in the area and were in the mood for some sushi, so we went on yelp and landed on Komé. Once seated, we decided to try a little of everything on the menu. I regret nothing, not even the stomach ache, from eating too much, afterwards. They offer simple traditional Japanese nigiri and maki as well as more Americanized fare, so there's really something for everyone here. Just realized I've been going here since they opened in 2011. This is truly an Austin classic and there used to be more Japanese run sushi places and am so glad this place continues that tradition. They've streamlined the menu since I was last here. I don't think they offer liquor based cocktails either just sake, beer, and wine. They've focused on their sushi menu and they still have their classics on the menu. I was lucky they had their tsukji market special that 3 nigiri with fish flown from the market. Very unique and they each had toppings and sauces to accentuate the fish - definitely no need for added soy or wasabi. I also ordered the mobo tofu or ma po tofu which is hearty. It's a Chinese dish adapted in a Japanese style so more on the sweeter side but to me it's comforting and it had lots of soft tofu too. It was quite filling and warming for cool fall day. These entrees dont come with rice but you can add the Kome set which has miso soup, Japanese pickles, and a generous scoop of rice. To end my meal I had a piece of Japanese uni served nigiri style. Japanese nigiri isn't always available - you normally find the California one in town. It was such a special treat and sweet like the sea. The portion was also generous. Service is great here and they check on you often when needed. As for ambiance - it's still the same kitschy Japanese pop art. Love it. read more

Chicken kaarage and fried tofu were great appetizers the sushi lunch box offering was a great combo for the price point. Service was excellent! Our waiter was very quick and attentive. I really want to like this place - a bit modern and some Japanese touch. Staffs are kind and lovely which is how you should feel in a Japanese restaurant. No complaints about the service. The food was underwhelming for me. The chicken karaage tastes like refried oil, and the chunks are not nice bite size. The taikoyaki were alright. My tempura with the dipping noodles were okay, not great. And my bf ordered a fusion dish with ground pork and mapo like sauce that he liked. Four stars for relatively high-quality sushi that is more affordable than many other nice sushi spots. I have been here a handful of times and have always enjoyed my experience. Although there is usually a wait, you can order drinks to make the time go by quickly. The space is pretty big and they do a good job of offering flexible seating arrangements (lots of space at the sushi bar) so they are pretty accomodating. Once seated, the service is excellent and they will quickly bring you your order. The food is not mind-blowing but is solid. I have never been disappointed by what I ordered. read more

I think about this place often and its been almost a month since I went. The nigiri was a good size and it was super fresh. For $22 I'd say that's a good deal considering how full and satisfied I was. It looks like a hole in the wall and its pretty easy to miss but I would definitely go here again if I visited Austin again. Our server was great too! There was a perfect ambiance of this restaurant which reminds me of Japan. You're greeted when you first come in, and I do recommend coming early or on off-times because this place does fill up. Stopped in for my first Komé visit in literally almost a decade, and was glad to see that they were still going strong with the same quality I remembered from back in the day. I stopped in for a chirashi bowl after actively craving one for a week straight, actively did my research on where I wanted to satisfy this craving, and ended up here at Komé. The atmosphere was good, service was quick, and the actual sushi was very high quality and smooth. They were accommodating of my gluten allergy, and were knowledgeable of any precautions and exclusions needed to make it safe. The wasabi was fresh and gave me the rush I was after, and overall I left happy. It was about a $40 lunch which is a bit of a splurge, but one I could see myself doing every once in a while when the hankering hits. read more

We waited 45 minutes for a table on a Friday night so quite a long wait but they don't take reservations. However, the service was fantastic and the food came out extremely fast! Only thing was we thought they had ramen all day and it looks like that's only served during lunch. We started with the miso soup and it was great just a classic miso soup. Then we got the Komé Wings and the wings were 10/10. We got the sweet chili and it was delicious and so crispy. We ended up getting a second order! We got the shumai which was also amazing. I would say 8/10; the flavor was absolutely delicious but they were quite small. We ended up ordering 3 orders to go bc they were so small but sooo good LOL! Then we got the "everything but lovers" roll. I would give it a 7/10. It had all my favorites in a sushi roll but could've maybe used avocado and some more tempura flakes for that crunch factor. First time visit for a birthday lunch. Three of us had the sashimi lunch and the other had the gyudon rice bowl. Started with miso soup that's included with our meals and thought it was bland or your typical soup to cleanse your pallet. Staff were nice and attentive until it got busier but managed to still check in on us. When the entrees arrived, the presentation was pretty however in a larger bowl, you realize that you're not getting much to eat but all the fish selections were very fresh. My favorite was the salmon, tuna and scallop. Unfortunately, I left still hungry. The gyu don was very thinly shaved and fatty. At one point I thought it was tripe or fat netting lol. It was not like a stew and thought it was dry and bland. I may consider giving another visit to try other menu items. read more

We had a really attentive waitress the whole night. Started off with the takoyaki and kome viche. The takoyaki was good but very dense. The kome viche was so fresh and the balance of mango and fish was incredible, was disappointed that it was so tiny though. Truer the Midnight Sun, Love for Sale Roll, Summertime roll and the philly roll. My favorite was definite the summertime roll, loved the crunchy and soft balance. I've been wanting to check out Komé for a while now and I had an opportunity on a recent Saturday afternoon. I was going to carry out but unfortunately it wasn't during their normal take out hours. Not to fear, the staff was very accommodating and seated me to take my order, and brought me containers to take home some delicious tempura and sushi. I didn't mind packing up my food on my own. The time was worth the wait. The dining room is decorated in a traditional Japanese style without being overly ostentatious. I like their long sushi bar ably manned by several itamae-san. The menu is 100% authentic Japanese cuisine prepared by authentic Japanese chefs-no bibimbap or spring rolls here. One of the owners is an Uchi alum. I appreciate the inclusion of a fantastic variety of cold appetizers such as sunomono, tatami, and poke, or even just a simple assortment of pickled veggies (tsukemono). You can enjoy traditional grilled yakitori as well as grilled salmon and squid. They even have deep-fried oysters (kaki fry) a big favorite of mine. Add to that the extensive selection of nigiri and rolls and it comes up a huge winner. Nice atmosphere, super reasonable prices for the amazing quality of the cuisine. What more could you ask for? There are no reservations so the system is once you get there, you QR code onto a waitlist and they text you when there is a table available. Kome is our favorite sushi place in Austin. Simply fantastic - we haven't been here in a while as we live out of town. It has moved up the road from its old location. So yeah it's been a while.
