The chicken skewers were well marinated and tender. I love that this bowl was popping with so many ingredients and flavors. This was my first time here, and found this service great. For a Saturday afternoon, it was pretty busy but I had no wait. Easy parking lot too! Check this place out if you love Japanese food. Large menu with a lot of variety. Only available during lunchtime, this bountiful bowl of Veggie Ramen is a steal. There are no frills or wild creative twists, but well-balanced with kombu dashi complemented by gossamer chili threads for a gentle heat. The fried tofu on top is the real focal point, both crisp and soft, light and airy, perfect for dipping and soaking in all of that flavorful soup. Subtly creamy, with a nutty sesame undertone, it's wholly satisfying, especially with those smooth, rounded noodles that hold up well under the heat. Such a good spot for a nice lunch or dinner! While airport is a busy street, the location is convenient to drive to if you're already on airport. Try to have your whole party present, otherwise they may hold your spot but not seat you. Despite being packed, service was really quick. The menu has a lot of stuff, but in general it's a good mix of standard rolls with some innovative combos and specials mixed in. My meal (miso soup, veggie tempura, and bean curd nigiri) was okay, not memorable. My friend, who's a regular, enjoyed her sushi and matcha ice cream. The service was very attentive--too much so. We were interrupted constantly, which made it hard to enjoy the meal or talk. The seating was cramped. Chairs are fixed due to the tight layout, and my chair was pressed up against the person behind me. A server even knocked my chopsticks off my plate because of how close the tables were. They don't accept cash, even for tips, which was surprising. Friendly staff and quick service, but between the tight space and over-attentive service, I wouldn't dine in again--maybe just do takeout. This place always has a wait and doesn't take reservations, so be prepared for that. Drinks are nothing to write home about IMO, but the food was outstanding!!! I was very pleased with the quality of fish and variety of menu options. Perfect for sushi lovers and for other types of Japanese food as well! I ordered the Alone Together chefs special roll; trust me it is worth splurging on. So delicious! Saturday lunch time again around 2:45 pm. It is rainy day again, so Kitsune udon is such a craving. Came to pick up something near by then decided to have a quick lunch here. Wasn't planned but good to have some unplanned event sometimes to refresh. Service is decent, except sometimes it's not consistent depends on what server you would be facing that day. I can't eat salmon and shrimp but sushi lunch looked really good deal today. It comes with assorted Sushi listings of tuna, albacore, some other white fishes, salmon, and shrimp, miso soup and choice of roll. The server said he can't substitute (which I had past time they did ask chef and they said ok to replace them with white fishes), since everything is assorted aligning the pricing, which I never heard about it from any other sushi places I've been to with this kind of lunch sushi combinations. Well, it could be a Kome's thing so I wouldn't mind it too bad but I did cancel the order and just proceed with other menu. Instead Sushi lunch, I ordered 5 pork belly sushi, which is my top favorite menu from here. Hope they are consistent with what they can offer for a customer. Ambiance: My friend and I went for dinner around 7:20 PM without a reservation, so there was a short 10-15 minute wait. The lighting in there is dim, warm, and soft, so it makes for a nice dinner atmosphere. We were able to get a table in the corner which was nice (there is also bar seating as an option). Food: We ordered the okonomiyaki, spooky roll, and midnight sun roll. The okonomiyaki looks pretty busy presentation-wise, but I really enjoyed the taste and texture of it. It had a slight crispiness to it, and the sauce complemented the cabbage well -- not too subtle, not too overwhelming. I actually enjoyed the spooky roll more than the midnight sun as I felt that it had more flavor to it. Even though I love tempura, I felt the midnight sun didn't have much as much kick or uniqueness to it to validate its price point or place on the special side of the menu. The spooky roll felt a bit more refreshing and was a bit cheaper than the midnight sun roll. Service: Our waiter was friendly, and the food came super quickly. Water comes in a nice bottle at the table with cups, so that part is self-service. I decided on the sushi lunch combo but upgraded my sushi roll to the summertime roll, added a house salad that has sunflower seeds that gave the salad a good crunch and the most delicious carrot and ginger dressing. Kome is a great casual sushi place. The tables are a bit close together so you're going to make friends with your neighbors or feel like they are eavesdropping. The food is good but a bit pricey for the quality. Austin unfortunately doesn't have too many good option in the casual sushi category. The appetizers are my favorite and like to get the chicken karaage, okonomiyaki, and agadashi tofu. Komé was really good! My daughter loves this place, so we went for Mother's Day. We went early in the evening because they do not take reservations. At 5:30 we didn't have to wait at all. They didn't let me take my water bottle in, which is a little weird to me, but they were really nice about it. The service was impeccable! Our guy didn't rush us but was usually around right when we needed him. We were enjoying one another's company, so we ordered 1-2 things at a time until we were all full. We did order one roll that didn't work out with our taste, and they took it off the bill while we just kept trying other things. We tried both types of pot stickers, two of the seared nigiri, 5 different rolls, and the yuzu crème brûlée. Really enjoyable meal and just the right amount of food for 3 of us. I love that they have really interesting rolls. They use mango in a few, which is tasty. Really fun flavor combos. Give this place a shot for sure! read more

It was a cute atmosphere and the drinks were delicious but service was horrendous - our server forgot to key in my drink and so I didn't get it until the very end of our email with only one piece of sushi left. Why we didn't try this place before? If you want great authentic sushi and a charming Japanese setting, this is the place to go. We were grateful that they were able to accommodate our huge lunch group with no problems. The lunch combos are not expensive and had pretty generous portions. I tried a sushi lunch. Stopped by for lunch while visiting Austin. They have an extensive lunch menu with many good options, and I decided to go with the yellowtail kama (collar bone) lunch. Portion was very generous, and everything, including the salad dressing and ponzu dip for the grilled kama, looked and tasted like they are prepped in their own kitchen. Kama was grilled perfectly with charred skin, adding nice flavors to this perfectly grilled fish, and I enjoyed every bit of their salad. All is plated beautifully - very enjoyable meal. Delicious sushi! We started with the korokke (panko mashed potato croquettes with bits of corn, carrots, and peas, drizzled with a tonkatsu sauce) and the gyozas (pork & cabbage dumplings). Next, we tried the sunshine roll (salmon, avocado, mango, sesame seeds), the longhorn roll (steak, avocado, cream cheese, green sauce, sesame seeds), and the alone together roll (tuna, salmon, yellowtail, topped with bbq eel, go-go sauce, eel sauce, tempura crunch). The sunshine roll was my favorite - so simple, so refreshing, and the mango was an amazing touch. The longhorn roll was my runner up - so different from typical sushi, and a very different flavor profile compared to the sunshine roll. The alone together roll was double the price, but it underwhelmed us. They don't take reservations, so we came here for an early dinner at 4:30 pm on a Friday to avoid the crowds, and there were so many empty tables. One thing to note is that their mid-day menu differs from their dinner menu. They start handing out their dinner menus at 5 pm. From the dinner menu, my boyfriend highly recommends the brie tempura. I've spent years eating my way through Austin's sushi scene -- from strip-mall counters to omakase rooms -- so when I say Kome's reputation is more hype than substance, I mean it. The general manager carries this "we're the best in Austin" attitude, which is wild considering most serious sushi spots here are sourcing from the same Japanese markets anyway. There's nothing uniquely elevated happening -- the credit belongs to the line cooks and sushi chefs grinding behind the bar, not the front-of-house ego. Here's where it went off the rails: I was kicked out and permanently banned for smoking marijuana hundreds of feet away on public property, nowhere near their entrance. That level of overreach tells you exactly how they operate -- less hospitality, more power trip. In a city like Austin, where the hospitality culture is supposed to be welcoming and laid back, that kind of behavior sticks out in the worst way. I used to be a regular. I wanted to support them. But after spending time in other spots where the chef actually talks to you, the fish is just as good (if not better), and nobody acts like they're guarding the gates of some exclusive club, it's hard to justify going back. Yes, the space is pretty. But in this town, pretty doesn't make you the best -- and treating guests like they're disposable definitely doesn't. If you're plugged into the local food scene, you already know there are places doing it with more humility, better energy, and the same supply chain -- without the attitude. Kome could be great.
