My boyfriend is in love with this place because he says that this is the best Filipino food he's ever had. I've had a lot of Filipino food in my life but I also agree that the food here is really good. We decided against ordering drinks so this review will only be about the food we ordered: lumpia, adobo with rice, and potatoes tossed in soy garlic. I wish had I had taken a photo of the dinner menu, but the lighting inside was very dark and Knee High Stocking doesn't allow flash photography. By the way, this is a speakeasy and, in true speakeasy form, you enter through a secret entrance. In this case, you simply ring a doorbell and a server will come to open the locked door. Don't leave if you ring the doorbell and the door doesn't open immediately! The servers get busy sometimes and might take a while to attend to the door. My boyfriend and I came on a Wednesday night and were able to be seated immediately. All the food we had was amazingly delicious and cooked well. The lumpia was actually mini sized and super crispy. The adobo was marinated well and had really great flavors. I thought the fried potatoes' sauce was a bit overpowering but there were other sauce options on the menu that seem to be more subtle. This is the best speakeasy I've been to, and certainly the best one in seattle. Upon booking a reservation, you'll be told where to show up. You'll ring the doorbell at this inconspicuous place and confirm your name with the greeter. You'll be seated, and have the option to pick from their large drink menu, or have the bar tender make something up based on things you like. We opted for the customized route, which I highly recommend. The cocktails we had were fantastic, and the bar tender really nailed it. This isn't your normal bar. Super cool speakeasy! The bar itself is very unassuming and hidden and the only sign is a small one right next to the door. We came on a Friday night and had to wait about 15 minutes as we had no reservations. We rang the doorbell and someone came out to help us. We had already been drinking and this was our next stop so we only had one drink here. I ordered the black velvet Manhattan ($15) which was very strong and just the way I like it. All the cocktails are about $15-20 although they do have happy hour from Monday to Thursday 5-7pm. They have a private lounge which you can reserve for groups and parties. The lounge is downstairs (on the same floor as the restrooms) and it has its own bartender which is really nice. I'm not sure if you have to pay to reserve it or not. Made a reservation here since we've heard good things about the place and the food/drinks looked pretty good from the pictures that we saw. However the experience we received was the complete opposite. We arrived at our reservation time since we were told with the reservation that we had 90 minutes (9pm - 10:30pm). Rang the doorbell and waited like we were told in the text that we received, however nothing. Waited little longer and still nothing. A worker came and they were let in, the worker that opened the door and saw us, but did not even acknowledge us. Five minutes went by and they finally opened the door and let us know that the table is paying in leaving soon (which was around 9:10pm at this point). We were finally let in at 9:15pm and were seated. Once seated, it also took around 15 minutes for anyone to come ask us if we were ready. We had a party of four, so we ordered four drinks and the empanadas since we had just come from dinner. The server took the order and was bringing us plates and silverware when he dropped the forks. Wasn't a big deal to us, but later when he tried to take away my drink that was still half full we realized that service was sub-par here. Towards the end of the night after our table had ordered six mediocre and overpriced drinks, we were looking to pay. However, there were no workers there other than the one worker managing the bar who was talking to a group and being a showy bartender. That's fine, so we waited since we were in no rush. But after 30 minutes, no one came by which then I just went up to the bar to let the guy know that I just want to pay since no one is going to come by to ask us if we want more drinks/food or to pay. He said that he was sorry and thought the other worker closed us out which makes no sense since we hand't seen a worker for nearly 45 minutes. To summarize, empanadas were amazing. Drinks were sub-par and way too overpriced for the quality of the drinks you are getting. Service was non-existent and I probably wouldn't ever go back. read more

I slid into the DMs of Knee High Stocking one Wednesday morning after hearing the Nudge Seattle suggest it, and they responded right away confirming my reservation request. Score! I sprung this surprise on my partner and she was excited to check the place out. Though we struggled with parking nearby, eventually we nabbed a spot just down the street and rang the doorbell to go inside. The atmosphere was cozy, quaint, and mysterious. Lots of vibes as they say. My partner ordered a house red and we got the chicken adobo sammy and the pork adobo bowl, along with some potatoes to start. The potatoes appeared to be very crunchy tater tots to me. My partner insisted they were homemade. Regardless, cool. The mains though were the real star. Let's set the tone with the pretentious server who made us wait IN THE RAIN outside, despite us having a reservation and being there on time. Next let's get to ordering cocktails. It's a speakeasy right? But oh no, they won't make me a drink that's not on the menu. That's...strange. Why do you have a bartender then? Why are there liquor bottles on the wall? Turns out all their cocktails are "pre batched" - and let me tell you, they taste like it. Next, can we have some food? Oh no, the kitchen is closed. Never mind the fact that if we had actually been seated at the time that our reservation was, it wouldn't have been. As if that wasn't enough, it's also super fun to get interrupted mid-conversation and be asked to move to a different table. And let's finish this stellar experience with being asked whether we wanted anything else, while our server already had our check in hand. Clearly you didn't actually want us to have anything else. Still tipped 20% because I used to be in the biz, but this whole mess was all around inexcusable. This is a Filipino-American Speakeasy known best for their craft cocktails. Parking can be a bit tricky, however, down a block there is an available parking lot. Reservations are placed via text message due to the small capacity. Once you've arrive during your reservation time you will ring the doorbell outside and someone will come get you. The entire experience is unique in their own way. Heads up-- vaccination cards are required so have it downloaded to your phone for easy access. F O O D Adobo seasoned Tots served with Sriracha Mayo Sauce Unfortunately, they did not have any tots in stock so we opted for regular fries. Fries were literally topped off with the packets of adobo seasoning, I suppose this is a creative way to use the seasoning. Plant Based Sisig Served with wild mushroom, tofu simmered in soy sauce and topped with picked veggies, mango salsa and kewpie drizzle all on a bed of garlic fried rice. If I were looking for a healthier alternative this would be it, however, I would make the tofu crispy to sub for that crispy pork in a regular sisig dish. Personally, I was not really a fan of this particular dish. Chicken Adobo This was one of their new items on the menu which included boneless pork marinated in vinegar, soy sauce and herbs on a bed of garlic fried rice. This dish had the perfect amount of vinegar and was a pretty ok dish. Ube Bread Pudding Warm ube bread pudding topped with ice cream, calamansi glaze and powdered sugar. A great way to end the meal! Reservations are a must! My husband took me here on my birthday and it is a unique little gem in Cap Hill. I would say it's heavier on the cocktails as far as uniqueness. We really enjoyed our experience here at Knee High Stocking and believe it is a must visit when you're here in Seattle. If I could I would just have ordered the appetizers! Because I am Filipino I understand the taste of things & what I feel I can make at home so IMO Knee High Stocking is a good spot for cocktails and apps. The entrees are nothing to really memorable. I came out here for my friend's wedding anniversary. The lady that checked us in was really nice. We missed our reservation, she managed to still get us a table. Inside, it's pretty dark but lively, almost like a speakeasy. We had a couple of cocktails and we tried the fried potatoes with duck fat. The cocktails are amazing, the potatoes were decent. I think I just haven't gotten the allure for duck fat, whether to rate the potatoes as good or bad or okay. I do want to try their Filipino food here some day. Being Filipino, it's kind of hard to me justify paying for the adobo when I can make it home. We tried their cocktail that has ube in it. And that was really good. In fact, all the cocktails we tried really good. Forgive me for not remembering which ones. There is a window that lets in light into the room, it's a little annoying when cars are passing by at night and their headlights shining in. If you happen to be in a specific corner, you'll get quite a bit of headlights in your vision. Have been here twice now and after both times, can say the experience here is just OK. The food and cocktails were good (slightly pricey) but the service was just uncomfortable. They server made over over five comments about how there was a large party coming at 7:30 (our reservation was for 5 at 5:15) and also made it very clear that they do not make adjustments to cocktail drinks. We had asked for our drinks to be less sweet and she made several comments that they are well balanced and quickly shut down any question of changes. We ended up order some great happy hour deals (3 cocktails which $6 on happy hour... loved the thai one) and some nice appetizers to share. The olives are super tasty and without pits. The potatoes with sriracha mayo are crispy and delicious. The bowls are good but a little expensive for how much you get. My husband and I split a beef and eggplant bowl. Beef was perfect but eggplant was extremely salty. The bed of garlic fried rice they were both over rocked. Our late October/pre-holiday drinks include spirit forward flavors accented with literally smoked herbs (rosemary). We had the "elixir for the gods" which is comprised of smoked rosemary in the glass, vida mezcal, creme de cassis, cardamaro, and borsci. It's exactly what you imagine it to be - earthy, berry, sweet and tobacco flavored. It tastes smooth and sophisticated. Rachel recommended the "Yellow Rose", with gin, orgeat, rose water, lemon and a creamy egg white to round this citrusy libation. Side note: Rachel makes amazing drinks. Tell her your likes/dislikes and mood and she will make you a cocktail that fits like the comfiest pair of shoes. Request a bar seat, sidle up to the bar, order and slip into a perfect beverage. The menu has expanded to include pancit, a variety of sandwiches and sisig. Yummmm! Adobo and lumpia are still available and delicious. Support this one of kind, female owned and managed restaurant. For a Friday night, I didn't have any trouble booking a table just half an hour before I wanted to come in on Opentable which was convenient but probably for good reason... For a speakeasy around Seattle, the prices were pretty average and the drinks weren't bad so I'd say worth the price but nothing amazing. I tried 3 drinks and can't really say any stood out or was memorable for me. I also dropped stars for Knee High because of the service. They were overly attentive to the point where we felt extremely rushed. Before we even drank half of our 2nd round, they came up to ask if we were doing well and then another waitress came 2 minutes after to ask if we were ready to order another round. Woooosh, been to a couple of speakeasies and so far, this one is my favorite. :) Took a couple of friends from out of town to here and overall, it was a pretty fun experience. After getting dropped off by Uber, it did take us a few minutes in trying to find this place. Hint: this place is across from Pie Bar pretty much (or use Yelp pictures for help) Reservations are highly recommended, especially on a weekend. After checking in with the hostess, our group of 4 was seated at the lower level. In summary, the lower level = more peaceful, quiet, and a lot cooler in temperature in comparison to upstairs. Cocktails = excellent. A little pricey but the taste was worth it. Had the chance to sample 5 different ones and here's a quick note: 1. Hennything is Possible = it's like drinking warm kumquat / lemony tea. For real, you can't taste the alcohol and if you're feeling cold, this drink will warm you up in all the right places 2. Easy Susan = for those who like sweeter drinks, this is a good one for you. A bit too sweet for my liking but it's good 3. OH NOOOO, I forgot the other 3....and with no menu picture handy, I can't recall the name. However, the other drinks were definitely on the stronger side with a nice bite. A couple were fruity like and overall, I like all of the cocktails. For food, had the chance to sample the Banh Mi.....and it was eh. Served at half the portion of a normal banh mi, it was an ok snacking food. I would recommend getting your drink on here and then go eat somewhere else. In summary though, Knee High Stocking Company = perfect place to start the night out. With some adventure involved (in searching the place), the dark secretive aura of a hidden bar, this place nails it for a classic speakeasy vibe. When we showed up the gal the answered the door said that there were no tables, but some spots at the bar???? We said we made a reservation and she looked at her iPad and said oh yeh i remember texting you (15 minutes prior) but couldn't find reservation. I stopped by after dinner on a Saturday evening without reservations. Luckily, they had exactly 2 spaces opened for us (the party of 3 in front of us got turned away), on the upper level, near the entrance. Very old-fashioned, rustic vibe. Dimly lit, pretty nice for dates and casual hangouts, but it does get pretty loud. For drinks, I got the Spring Forward, Fall Back and my girlfriend got the Jolly Apple, both super strong and unique. The Jolly Apple was a hot drink, which caught us off guard, can definitely imagine myself drinking that in front of a fireplace in the snow. Luckily, we had food before, they were only serving banh mi that night, which is a weird food option to have at a bar. TIPS: If you're set on making a visit on the weekend, make a reservation beforehand. They have a downstairs lounge, which looked like it can hold groups or larger parties.
