We came off a Mexican Riviera cruise a month ago and found ourselves craving a bit of that tropical touch upon our return. If you find yourself in the same boat (haha, get it? see what I did there? boat ... same boat .. because we were in a boat ... No? Ok, nevermind, moving right along ) ... I recommend you check out Navy Strength, a cute tropical themed bar in the Belltown area of Seattle. We actually came upon them by accident when heading to a local musical event nearby but we were definitely taken to that tropical head space, just sit back, relax, take in the ambiance and music, enjoy a drink and feel the motion of the waves .. or was that from the drink, either way, highly recommend! Being a big fan of the Twin Peaks tv show, my wife was taken by the novelty of a drink called "Fire Walk with Me" and, between both presentation and taste, it definitely didn't disappoint on either level. We didn't think to check the food menu at the time but in hindsight, they look to have some good options worth going back for. They have a Jackfruit slider that can be made vegan. In addition, they have nachos which can be made vegan as well. I reached out to ask about this, instead of vegan cheese, it's prepared with a house peanut sauce, sounds intriguing to me. Last (that I noticed) they have Smoked Almonds and also Marinated Olives, both labelled "V" for vegetarian but I can't imagine what might keep them from being vegan, worth inquiring further on that. read more

When we got there, the music was not tiki and the staff when asked said "we aren't a tiki bar... we are more of a tropical bar" I wouldn't avoid this place... but I wouldn't work hard to go here either. We swung by Navy Strength to enjoy a few drinks and shot before NYE. Despite being busy, we only had to wait around 10-15 mins to get a table. We were a big party and they were able to accommodate us well. We ordered some popcorn, a few cocktails and some Jell-O shots. The popcorn tasted like movie theatre popcorn but in a good way. The cocktails were decent but the Jell-O shots were a little off. They had some weird black residue in them. The ambience is simple but was decked up for the holidays. The service was fast and the server was very sweet. Not sure if I will be back but the place didn't really stand out to me, but overall it gave a nice dive bar vibe. read more

Taking a stroll after dinner in Belltown, my friends and I happened upon Navy Strength... and were glad that we did. Decorated in an island motif, Navy Strength serves classic tiki drinks as well as some newer cocktails. I had a mai tai - made with lots of mint - and my friends each had one of the slushie specials. We arrived fairly early in the evening, so, initially, the bar was not particularly crowded. We were able to sit and enjoy our cocktails. By the time we left, the bar was getting crowded, but we were happy to have found a new place for cocktails. read more

This was another pretty solid experience. We really like their pop up bars because they're well decorated and fun. They really go the extra mile for the vibes but it's still distinctly a tiki bar. 5/5 for ambiance. The food was pretty good and comparably priced for the area. The nachos were probably the best value because they were huge and similar in cost to the sliders. We got 2 popcorns because they are small but cheap. The drinks were excellent and you can buy the drink ware if you like it. The service is really the main area they can improve in. The servers themselves were great but they were running ragged. I really really hate to write a negative review about a Belltown spot but man this was disappointing. Very cute Christmas decor and the oysters were genuinely delicious but the energy was weird and charging $32.74 for a SLUSHIE is wild. It didn't have any dimension of flavor it just tasted like alcohol, I ended up letting my friend finish it which hurt my heart because again, it was $32.74 for a very small, not great tasting slushie. It was super quiet when our group came in but staff didn't seem super happy that we were there at all, forgot my friends oyster bump ($10 additional) at first and seemed kind of irritated at people that just ordered beers and people that ordered food. Visited this establishment on Sunday evening at the request of my friend. She had seen social media posts about their Xmas PopUp. Definitely not my vibe. It's a tiki bar decorated for Christmas serving holiday themed cocktails. No line to get it, wait to be seated. My friend wanted the experience so she demanded they clean a seating area just vacated for us to sit. We sat next to a Santa reclining amongst a barrel in worn chairs. When I sat on the cushion it was so worn I wondered if I was going to be able to get up. Our table was a chest. The server gave us drink menus and we asked about food, I was starving. The server informed us they had run out of quite a few items and had a limited menu...great..I'm vegetarian and allergic to fish. Luckily they had jackfruit sliders available which I ordered and my friend ordered the ahi tacos. She ordered a cocktail, I decided there was nothing appealing to drink and was in sticker shock with the price of drinks. The 3 ahi tacos served on lettuce slices came out almost 10 minutes before my two small jackfruit sliders. They were served on very small and tasty dinner rolls, not a normal size. The sauce was spicy and flavorful. I was starving! Just weird that my two sliders took longer to prepare than the tacos, they were nothing special, maybe a tablespoon of jackfruit, small amount of coleslaw, definitely did not match the price of $14. The bill came, we each got separate checks, mine came with an automatic 20% service charge. Of course when I looked at the total it was more than the total after tax. It wasn't until I read the fine print on my receipt that I understood why my total was more. The server didn't even point it out. My friend's receipt did not have the 20% service charge just mine. The entire experience was weird. The server never came back, left no additional tip because I just felt unwelcome. Would not revisit this establishment. read more

I was looking forward to checking the themed pop ups here having missed the halloween ones last year and this year. I finally got to check out the Sippin' Santa Christmas pop-up at Navy Strength, and it was a mixed bag. The decorations were super fun and totally got me in the holiday spirit - they definitely nailed the festive vibe. But the drinks were kinda steep at ~$20+ each and then they slap on a 20% service charge. The atmosphere was cool, and I had a fun time, but I'm not sure I'd rush back given how much I ended up spending. Sippin' Santa was such a fun holiday spot! The decorations were beautiful and totally set the Christmas vibe. I went on a Sunday at 7, and while the kitchen was closed, the drinks made up for it. Oh Navy Strength, I wanted to love you, but. But we came in early on a Friday night and you were out of Jello shots and diet coke. But after an initial pass, your waitstaff all but ignored us as we tried to order more drinks. But your drinks are not consistent, some are AMAZING and some are just...medicine-like. Came by for the Halloween pop up. The décor was cute, but mostly still in the tiki vibe they normally have. We only had drinks. Out of the 12 total drinks we tried 2 where great, 3 where ok and the rest I would not order again. Service was the real down side. Super slow and inattentive. I also asked if they had any other shots, since Jello shots where sold out by 6pm on a Friday, and was told nothing not on the special menu. However I saw a lot of others getting stuff not on the menu. At the end I understood the reason for the lack luster service. They charge a 20% mandatory gratuity. Why should the staff care if they know they get 20%(which is not listed on the menu and we did not get told about it prior to the check). Honestly in this area so many better options. read more

The drinks were a little too ice heavy for me for the price, but I think that's also common in Tiki/tropical style bars. The inside is cool with a lot of funky decor which makes it a cool place to hang out with friends or take a date. Staff was really awesome and there was a lot of seating which makes this stand out, especially in the Belltown area. We came to Navy Strength as a party of 4 on Friday night. It was BUSY but we were comfortably seated within the first 5 minutes. We absolutely love what they did with their decor to get into the Halloween season-creepy tiki is hilarious! This is even before we got a peek at their menu. We love the detail that they put into their menu-it was fun to not just go over what we wanted to drink, but how they tied into the scary movies they were themed after. We would come back for some merch! I ordered two drinks-the "What's in Norman's Cellar?" and "Samara's Cup". "What's in Norman's Cellar" took me by surprise-the presentation on this cocktail was simple, but totally worked! This cocktail really was a love letter to the Southwest- it had masa, chocolate, and chile pin. I wish that it had more of a kick to it, but it was a pleasant sipper. It is thicker in terms of consistency, so fair warning to those who aren't into milkshakes. While I would have liked there to be a tequila or mezcal cocktail that had a different mouthfeel, this cocktail works and was unique! "Samara's Cup" was OUTSTANDING. It came with a candied apricot on the top, and was a delight from start to finish. The gin/persimmon/apricot/lemon/tamari combo-this was absolutely perfect. This is a winner of a cocktail, and was beautifully presented. I have never been to Navy Strength before this visit, but between their excellent service, lovely staff, and incredible flavors, I can't come back soon enough! Extra props to them for their coasters. They recycle their cardboard boxes of liquor by cutting them up and stamping them with their name. I LOVE this-every coaster is recycled and unique. read more

So Navy Strength looks pretty good. It's got island vibes more than tiki vibes but it's a tropical bar... not a Tiki bar.... Although there is definitely some crossover. Decor is really eye-catching..... except if you are sitting at the bar. Buckets, trash cans, large appliances, employee's snacks and clutter everywhere. It's a disgusting view! But other than that, everything works. I only had time for one drink. The cocktail with four types of banana. I didn't really taste too much banana but it was really good! They do tack on 20% but I tip at least that... but still it's a shock. read more

Being from "da islands" of Maui and O'ahu, every now and then we like to scope out the tiki/tropical bars here and there on the mainland. Being a Navy brat, this place caught my eye for both the tiki vibes and name. Decor is a bit mish mash even for a tropical themed place. Perhaps it was the lighting scheme but it felt flat, not very "warm." Service was attentive and friendly quick, not pushy at all. The drinks ($14-$19) were not very memorable though. I expected them to be sweet but they were *syrupy* sweet. Would be cool if there were more options for pupus, like taro chips with dip or Hawaiian beef chips. I have only visited Navy Strength during holiday events so far but both visits were fun. Last December the bar was decorated in so many pretty lights for the year-end holidays. The cocktail menu had items like Sippin' Santa, Pear Tree, and White Russian Christmas. I forgot to take a menu photo last year so I'll be sure to correct that this year. :-) During the Halloween season this year the bar was decorated with cobwebs, candles, lights, and creepy dolls. The staff were dressed in costume too. The theme was "Nightmare on Wallstreet", which was really clever considering the economy. Drinks were named to reflect scary movies. Telekinetic Energy (Carrie), Beach Scene (It Follows), Mister Babadook (The Babadook). A couple of the drinks included fire that was made larger with a sprinkle of what I think was cinnamon right before serving. Fun to watch. The food I've eaten at Navy Strength has been good too. I appreciate that the menu has multiple food choices to satisfy different tastes. Oysters, salads, nachos, steam buns, etc. There's even a daily happy hour from 4 to 7 with discounts on some items. Stopped by with a large group of friends during their holiday pop-up on a Friday night. We had about 15 people in our group, who were seated at two separate big tables and unfortunately split up. We waited for about 20 mins for the tables to open up. Staff here is attentive, friendly, and cheerful even during a crazy busy night. My favorite part of the pop-up is the holiday themed drinks, many of which are still on the rum vibe that is normally there. You can even buy the themed cups they come in!! Drinks are strong, and there were a couple N/A options. They really decked the halls and have the cutest decorations. Drinks are pricey (around $18-20 per holiday drink) but they still have well drinks that I'm sure are less expensive. There are snack options here as well - we got the chicken nachos and the olives. Back to basic training. More bar than Tiki, Navy Strenghth has the potential but it just doesn't quite come together. Drinks: Are great and well made. Their Meghrabi Mint Sour is a must have. But be careful it goes down easy and you could find yourself under the table quickly. Drinks Downside: we also ordered a non alcoholic beverage for the DD. It was nearly the same cost as full strength cocktail and the glass was 3/4 full. Ouch! But the biggest bummer is that they didn't have Pusser's Rum. I'm usually am less picky about the rum, but when you call yourself Navy Strenghth and you don't have Pusser's or a Pain Killer on the menu, you've sunk my battleship. Atmosphere: has some tropical flair for sure, but I'm looking for a real commitment to the tropical kitsch that Tiki bars are known for not just glass floats and bamboo walls. Mugs: None to speak of. Drinks are served in regular tropical glass mugs. Though they may have had a Santa mug during the holidays. Food: Was there at Happy Hour and the Spam sliders were very tasty but expensive for what you got. Two bites and was gone $5 each at HH. Half the price would have been more appropriate for HH. Bottomline: Nice bar, but lacking in Tiki-ness. Also a bit on the pricy side. Sorry but this Navy needs some more muscle before it can call itself Navy Strength. read more

Navy Strength has been on my Seattle checklist for far longer than I'm uncomfortable admitting and finally last week I was able to visit. They met all of my expectations. Usually decked out in tiki bar theming, I got to enjoy extra festivities with the Sippin' Santa pop up. We tried the Holiday on Ice and Ho Ho Ho Buttered Rum. I really enjoyed this, it tasted like a Christmas pudding, with citrus blended with butter, the rum adding a hint of spice to it. All in all, a great holiday cocktail. My fiancé had the Holiday on Ice which reminded me of a spiked horchata. Other things I liked: They do have a food menu too with small nibbles (nachos, salads, baos). Navy Strength is across the street from our apartment house. For two years outside of the pandemic shutdown, I noticed crowds of young people sitting inside and out, under heaters in colder weather, enjoying themselves. It was always crowded, but the demographic was very young, so I avoided the place. Last night, after Delta Airlines abruptly canceled my flight to Las Vegas without providing alternative flights until after the Las Vegas , I needed a medicinal cocktail. We ran across the icy street, ignoring the record breaking cold, and grabbed two seats at Navy Strength's bar. It was last call, and I ordered a double vodka. My wife ordered a Sippin Santa, a Pina Colada thing that was tasty and not too sweet. Mitch, a young man with the affect of a seasoned barkeep, picked up on my angst, and served me well. He was gracious, well versed, and urbane. I didn't expect getting this kind of sophistication at Navy Strength. The alcohol tamed my virulence, and I was able to resist tearing up anything or anybody resembling a Delta Airline employee. I will return to Navy Strength and let Mitch mix a cocktail worthy of his skills. read more

I could taste a hint of the Japanese melon (a bit artificial), lime, and gin. I couldn't taste the pineapple or shiso leaf. My drink was also filled with ice. Hollow trance - one of the few non-alcoholic drinks. It was very sweet. For $13, I felt like it was pretty expensive for what it was.
