Flew in to visit from Las Vegas one of the coolest bars because of the ambience. The food was amazing. The service was also amazing really friendly bartender made us feel very welcome. There is a little bit of a wait but they do have two locations and apparently the other location never has a wait overall good food and good vibes

Yes. Yes. Yes. I love dive bars and this one has the Seattle feel to it. They have good drinks, good sitting and good music. Best part it's open till midnight.

This is a nice chill bar. The decor is eclectic with graffiti walls, signs and pictures of people everywhere. The bathroom also follows the wild decor. I didn't see a cocktail waitress. You go to the bar when you want a drink. I also did not see food being served. I recommend visiting this bar around 5pm to snag a corner seating. It quickly got busy by 6pm on a Friday night. I noticed after 6pm that a staff was checking ID by the door. Overall, I'm glad we found this place while we had an hour wait for the restaurant around the corner.

A Capitol Hill staple. I love you Montana for being the never changing grimey bar with kickass drinks on tap. Never ever change. So glad to see that Montana is surviving the pandemic and built out a larger front patio area for people to enjoy. Would be even better if they put some outdoor heaters but perhaps they're banking on patrons to continue to imbibe to keep warm. Nevertheless - nothing to complain; do get their cocktails on draft and do absolutely get pickle backs (and if you hate pickles - you just may be a monster).

A bike caught in a Web. I enjoyed the decor up until my exchange with the poor bartender.. god bless him

So there was a full Fremont brewing co. beer keg of in the men's bathroom....... So I thought it might be fun to make a conversation with the bartender, opening with "why is there a full beer keg in the mens restroom?". To which, he responds "that's where we store them." Then I said "yeah anybody could walk out with it, any strong person, you don't seriously store beer in the bathroom right?". The bartender looks at me for two seconds, says "okay", and walk away from me and I exclaim "you guys need to worry about that! Someone could take the whole thing!". I ask for a beer and am promptly denied service.. "no i don't want you're money, thanks bud, i don't condone stealing.." and this boy claims I was trying to steal even though I was simply making a joke... So much disrespect that I couldn't believe it. I went to go sit with my group of six guys afterwards and was befuddled by the whole exchange. Poor guy, he seems a bit deranged and I just hope he gets the help he needs. If you see a tall-ish white guy with long black hair and glasses, god bless him, just pray he gets the help he needs to be a sociable, halfway-decent human being because this is not how anyone that pays good money for a service deserves to be treated God bless you sir

The pickle back!! Whiskey and pickle juice!! Say what!

Say what! Been coming here a while. Dive bars are a whole new world to me and I just started coming/going to them recently. This maybe the diviest! But I love it! The neons! The drawings on the tables! And ginger beer on tap! Aka the Moscow mules on tap!! They said it all started here in Montana! You can buy a growler of Rachel's ginger beer here cheaper than at Rachel's ginger beer! But! The best thing I was introduced to: the picks backs! I know late to the game af! But! Who knew pickle juice with whiskey shots are a thing! I don't do any colored liquor but I do pickle backs here! Mainly for the spicy pickle juice! Summer here are crazy busy! Their outdoor patio is tiny but get crammed! Tuesday's here are my favorite! Pickle backs before karaoke across for street: it's a must! And all you need is 2 shots!!

Awesome place to grab a beer, chill out and it's friends, and listen to some country music. They have some cocktails on tap as well. Don't forget to get your picture taken at the photo booth!!

Montana is a nice divey-ish spot to grab a drink as you work your away around Cap Hill. Came here on a Friday night, had a lot of people but not overly crowded where you cant find a spot to have a few drinks. Its dark, not a whole lot of tables, but drinks and beers were affordable. $3 Rainier tallboys!!! You can drink outside in front too but be sure to tell the bouncer so he can "escort" you to the area. There's a photo booth but good luck if it's working, so try at your own risk. Montana will not reimburse you, there's a number you can call to try to get a refund. Other than that, I like this spot, would definitely come back again!

I love Montana, and you should too. Whether you are here on your birthday masquerade and it is totally dead save for your friends or when it is packed to the gills on the anniversary party, complete with douchey DJ and weird crowd that seemingly cabbed straight from the most hellish places in Belltown, I love it. They have Moscow mules on tap. ON TAP! With Rachel's delicious, delicous ginger beer! Get one! Order me one, too! I think it is funny and stragely accurate that this place is categorized as both a dive bar and cocktail lounge. Bartenders are pretty cute, too.

Montana is an unpretentious dive-ish type bar on East Olive Way on Capitol Hill. I got some takeout from Kedai Makan up the street and headed over to Montana as they allow Kedai patrons to eat there. I thought it was good timing to also try a drink cocktail from Montana which is known as the brew birthplace of local ginger beer, Rachel's Ginger Beer which has since expanded off the Hill. Though you can still get ginger beer here despite the move. The interior of the space here is dark like a dive should be. It is a friendly neighborhood bar which is easygoing and low key. It does not pretend to be what it isn't. There are many booths for large groups as well as a bar table area right in front to enjoy your libations. This is one of those spaces in which you need to go to the bar and order your drink rather than wait on someone to come to your table. Drink prices are pretty reasonable. I got a Moscow Mule here for $6. It is a nice concoction which includes the aforementioned Rachel's Ginger Beer. It pairs well with the Malaysian beef noodles that I got at Kedai. I like the lime in the drink as it makes it a refreshing drink that is perfect for summer. And it just so happens it is a low calorie cocktail so you can have two if you want (if you can handle the alcohol). If you are looking for a no frills place on Capitol Hill that makes a nice cocktail, Montana is the spot for you.

make sure to try a pickleback...and then buy up their housemade pickle juice, spicy and delicious!!

This was my favorite bar in Seattle before I even visited. For the past year I knew about Montana picklebacks and every time a friend was in town I would have them bring me back BOTTLES of this housemade pickle juice to Portland. Finally made a trip to Seattle and so glad that I did. The bar was great, loved the photobooth and the staff was super friendly and helpful. Also apprecaited that they had moscow mules on tap (made with housemade ginger beer). Mmmm.

Red solo cup lights are rad.

Sad clowns, happy clowns, creepy clowns, and more clowns than you can count! The bathrooms are unisex with plenty of stickers to look at. Always hand soap and toilet paper available even when busy. Hard working staff! Some areas of the bar like near the bathrooms have flashy lights and makes it feel like you're at the circus. The vibe is laid back and care free. We had been planning for a week to go to that bar specifically, but we were immediately treated like shit by the bartender going off on a power trip, and it made us feel so uncomfortable we had to leave. We had no idea it was the kind of bar where tables were spoken for. We walked in and all we saw was a line to the bar. There is a possibility that I missed a sign, but I'm pretty observant about that stuff. We saw an empty table and naturally walked over to it, and he pounced on us to get our IDs like we were sneaking in. He kept telling us we were 8th in line. I understand they can't give us a set time, but the over-explaining and scolding was so unnecessary. We accepted that the table wasn't ours but he kept going on and on and on. I understand working in a bar gets stressful, and I know there are entitled people that probably pissed him off, but he was projecting something crazy at us that I don't think we deserved. He did apologize for being a dick I think he wanted me to fawn over him and tell him he wasn't but I confirmed that he was and he apologized which I actually respect. Maybe if you put up some signage or something, that could help unless the whole schtick is that your staff is immediately hostile. In that case good job. Hope I can snag a table another one of these days. Best.

One of the dishes I miss after moving to Seattle from the Midwest is the humble tenderloin…read moresandwich. A giant plate-sized piece of pork, pounded flat, breaded and deep fried? Yes please. After finding out about Loretta's Northwesterner, which is basically the only place in Seattle that serves tenderloin sandwiches, we made it a priority to visit on a surprisingly rainless and cloudless February winter weekend. Breaded Pork Tenderloin Sandwich ($18) - That's the stuff. A perfectly fried and breaded tenderloin, easily 3 or 4 times the size of the almost vestigial bun, topped high with veggies (on the side, of course, to assemble to taste). It's a very respectable size, larger than many places I've visited in Indiana and Iowa. Thick breading encrusts a perfectly cooked tenderloin, allowing a hard crispy shell to develop, while the interior meat, pounded flat, remains tender yet moist. Both the breading and pork are liberally seasoned with salt, pepper, and spices, which creates a well seasoned bite. They include tons of romaine, red onion, tomatoes, and tangy pickles - with everything in place, I almost had to unhinge my jaw to eat the sandwich. The bottom bun is slathered with an ungodly amount of mayo. It's necessary to add more creaminess and fat to the relatively lean meat. The one qualm I have that prevents me from anointing this sandwich the best in the west: the bun. While toasted on all sides, it's dry and kind of crumbles apart while eating. Otherwise, this sandwich is excellent and easily competes with the many pork tenderloins I've eaten in the Midwest. (5/5) Fries ($6) - A $6 basket comes with a generous portion of freshly fried potatoes. The fries are skin on, which basically makes these crisp starchy sticks a health food. I found them to be fried a bit too far, rendering the interiors fluffy but dry. They have good crisp exteriors, though, and aren't overly salted. (4/5) Tavern Burger ($7) - Loretta's is actually more famous for their burgers than the tenderloins, with many publications in Seattle claiming they serve the best in the city. People often recommend getting the Double Tavern Burger, but we opted for the single given that we were planning on a couple of stops for desserts and pastries afterwards. For a full meal, I'd definitely want to upgrade to the double - the single isn't that large, probably comparable to a cheap fast food burger with a slightly larger patty. The beef is heavily charred in flavor, lending a great smoky aroma and a beefy bite. It's cooked well done, so the entirely of the burger is the same brown color, but there's more than enough moisture coming from the other ingredients to offset the dryness of the beef. There's a requisite slice of melted American cheese on top and plenty of fatty mayo-based secret sauce underneath, dressing a bunch of chopped onion and sliced pickle. The tanginess from the pickle balances out the fat and meat quite well. I'm not sure I'd call the burger the best in the city, but it's certainly pretty good. (4/5) I don't eat at dive bars very often, but I'd definitely return to Loretta's for the tenderloin sandwich. It's not a dish commonly found in the PNW and the fact that Loretta's rendition is actually really good, is a boon to the city. Bathrooms - Two tiny unisex rooms
