I hate writing negative reviews about food establishments but I feel the need to call out an employee here who treated me and my friends with complete disrespect. There is a "karen" that works here and shes apparently such a karen that im not the first person who has complained about her. My group of friends arrived, ready to show IDs but there was no bouncer, so we walked in. Then 30 seconds later, we hear a literal shriek from said karen and shes yelling at us for not showing IDs. Ive never seen an employee at an establishment act with such entitlement towards their patrons, acting like shes runs the place, and actually yells at the customers. At one point, she shoved her way thru my friends extremely rudely, I called her out on it to stand up for my friends, and she kicked me out. If anyone wants a description: white woman, maybe 30s, light short hair in a pony tail. (Tbh you dont even need a description bc her attitude, demeanor, and lack of respect will give her away immediately). read more

If you were to go to a dictionary and look up "dive bar," I wouldn't be surprised if you didn't see a picture of The Meyer. The surrounding area, being right next to Pioneer Square, is dicey at best, and the mood inside the bar is distinctly dark. That said, the food is good--plenty of dogs on the menu, all of which can be made vegetarian--and the drink selection is broad and decently well made. Further, the prices are much cheaper than nearby bars, even those just around the corner. The service is mixed: sometimes friendly and sweet, at other times downright rude. To their credit, the staff really does have to deal with a lot of crap given the neighborhood, and I think they forget that there are customers in the bar who want to be there, want to pay, and will tip. I like the fact that they have a few pinball machines, which we routinely play. FYI, The Meyer is owned by the same folks that own Shorty's. The food and drink selection is very similar and similarly priced. read more

I went out of my way to find this joint, paid for parking and went in to play pinball and have some beers. My excitement came to a halt when I showed up after 2 pm and was rudely told to get out that they weren't open yet. Their website clearly states they open at 2pm. If they were really closed, you'd think the front door would have been locked. Don't waste your time or your $ here. Also, it seems like the "Meyer" enjoys hiring or at least keeping rude employees around. Even Caitlin from Yelp on July 2023 noted that the bartender was rude to her too. Authentic Seattle experience. Great mix of folks. Went for a happy hour with some coworkers, sat down at the bar and thoroughly enjoyed this place. Bartender has a witty sense of humor and is entertaining AF. Drinks are poured favorably and reasonably priced. Love the pinball and other games as a novelty, though I did not play I love every bit of nostalgia I can get. This place is unpretentious and underrated from the looks of it. Well, let me tell you about my experience at the Meyer . Friday night after the Chris Brown concert if it wasn't for the bar back that saved the tenders ass that night. Whatever problem she had, our friend was celebrating her birthday and dared to wave at the bartender to see if she could flag her for a drink, instead of being polite the bartender wave back at everybody in the bar and then stormed off and grabbed her coat, I'm sure she was having a bad night. Talk about bad service now I understand service industry. I've been a nurse for 31 years but for hell sakes if you're having a bad night, don't take it out on your patrons. Take a five minute break go out do what you do take a breather and come back in with a smile and serve your patrons now she could've had a better attitude when she return but she didn't again I'm disabled. I have two artificial knees and a bad back again. I tried to wave her down to get another drink. I had started a tab. She acted like it was an honor to me a drink, WTF, seriously. Despite all that, I still left her a 30% tip seriously next time skip the punk rock attitude and serve your patrons. I tip you, how about you have a better attitude and serve your customers and all the bullshit. read more

Worst bar experience I have EVER had! Last night a small group of friends and I showed up at 10pm and ordered a round of drinks. We had a bit of friendly banter with the bartender, made a few jokes, and settled into a booth to enjoy our drinks and some quiet conversation (we're a calm group who all have service industry experience, so I'd describe us as "easy" customers). At around 10:20 the bartender announced last call, and since the bar closed at 11 we ordered one more round. At that point the bartender became aggressive and incredibly rude. It was like a switch had flipped. She started screaming at us about how she wanted to go home and "someone better give her some f#$&+#@ money" (as we had our wallets out deciding who would pay). We were shocked and upset by her sudden change in attitude, but since we had paid for a second round we decided to stay and finish our drinks. At 10:30 another employee came up to our table demanding that we leave. At this point the bartender's friends had showed up and she was pouring them drinks. We explained to him that we still had 30 minutes until the bar closed and since there were other people there with drinks we were going to finish ours. The other employee then stood at our table and repeatedly (and aggressively) tried to get us to leave. We asked him why they were trying to force us out when the bar was still open for another 30 minutes and there were other people still drinking, to which he responded "we want to start cleaning so we can go home early, so get out." We were then harassed by both employees until we decided to ditch our (nearly full) drinks and leave (well before 11pm). I love dive bars, and can absolutely handle a surly attitude, but the way we were treated was next level abhorrent. We recently moved to the neighborhood and had previously had a wonderful experience at this bar, but after last night we will never, EVER come back. The employees working last night should find a new career path, as they are clearly not suited for the service industry. read more

One of my favorite spots in Pioneer Square! We came here on a Friday night and thoroughly enjoyed the vibe that I would best describe as a lively dive bar. The bar was dog friendly and had games like pinball and pop-a-shot to liven up the atmosphere. The bar tenders were friendly and made stiff drinks and everything was reasonably priced. Not really a posh place I would go to impress a date, but an awesome place for a night out with friends. I will definitely visit again the next time I am in Seattle. read more

Popped in by chance on a late night date because it seemed like everywhere else was closed. I was immediately put at ease by the atmosphere. The security guard was kind; the soft, purple glow of the LED lights was pretty; the space was small and intimate without feeling cramped; there was this beautiful, huge dog just chilling with a group of people and some of the staff I think; and the bartender (long haired blonde woman I didn't catch the name of) was very good at making drinks and somehow knew exactly what I wanted when my inexperienced self asked for "something fruity" lol! I wish we didn't get there so late because I would've loved to play some of the games on the back wall or try out some of the food. The bathroom was really cool, lots of names and comments and conversations on the walls, which made for very fun conversation between my date and I. Personal fav was "fart tits", along with the little drawing to go with it of (you guessed it), a pair of boobs farting. I'd say this is a great little spot to go to get to know someone and have fun, chat with strangers that lean in to ask how you're doing, or go as a last ditch effort at extending a date that's plans were slightly hindered by a crazy snow storm hehe. Will definitely be going back, and if everything pans out well, will be buying a drink for everyone when I come back to share another date with the lovely person I was with that night :) read more

This place is named after the building it is housed in that used to house a brothel upstairs which is now an apartment for rent. I have been a fan of Shorty's in Belltown and was excited when they opened this bar across from Occidental Park in Pioneer Square next to Box House. It's my go to bar when I pre-func before a Sounders, Seahawks, Mariners or stadium event at Centurylink Field or Safeco Field. This is strictly a full bar without any food for Seattleites (non-yuppies) that like domestic beer in cans with some microbrews, as well as, spirits. I love this bar. The vibe and atmosphere is wonderful. However the last 3 times I have been in, Ingrid has been the one to serve me and had provided terrible terrible service. I work service industry so I am very understanding, so I know the shit she does is inexcusable. The time before last that I was in, she double charged me. Took both my cash, and charged my card. I tried to call in about it, but the Manager was out of town. I took the loss, since I love the business overall. She had just started her shift and had a line full of people and shouted " sorry y'all I'm stressed I'm going to smoke be right back" and made us wait. Then when the bathroom was out of paper towels, I told her, and she said as rude af about it. An hour and half later the paper towels were not stalked in the one bathroom they had working. The bar itself is great vibes, but if Ingrid is working run for the door. Worst service I've ever had three times in a row now. The other bartneder is amazing hence why I kept coming back. I hope management does itself a favor and gets rid of this terrible server since the bar itself is fire but Ingrid is the worst excuse for a bartender three times in a row now. read more

Only benefit of this bar is the drinks are cheap. Bar advertises pizza but the bartender told me she never likes to prepare any because selling itakes her shift harder. Service is slow and they don't bus their tables. One bartender usually takes smoke breaks every 30 minutes leaving all the patrons to wait. Bartender and her friends get combative with patrons and intimidate people they don't like. Seattle is full of bars with better service, better locations, and actually serve food. read more

Unpretentious staff (one bartender) don't want to be amused. They want to serve you a drink and get back to drinking themselves. That's not true. Let me start by saying that this is my GO TO bar in Pioneer Square. I recently moved back down here after a 20 year hiatus and was so very happy that this place is here. Sure, I still go to the J & M, The Central, et al, but The Meyer feels like home to me. Some highlights: most bartenders play albums in their entirety (and have impeccable musical taste), drinks are relatively strong and relatively cheap, the majority of the regulars are pretty cool, and, most importantly, the bartenders all kick ass! Sean, AJ, Inger, Jared, and Kristina are awesome bartenders... and the door crew are stellar as well. This is NOT the place to come for a "craft cocktail" (there are dozens of those places around here, so please go to one of those places instead) but it is a place to sit and have a few drinks in a comfortable environment while listening to some great music. This place has been home to more than a few conference calls with clients, a more than healthy amount of imbibing, many great conversations, and an awesome escape from reality while going through divorce #2. I cannot recommend enough. read more

Went into this bar with high expectations however the girl who served us was absolutely awful. She stumbled into the fridge to get our Jell-O shots. After she served us and took my card to pay for my tab, we waited thirty minutes. After time had passed we asked her to close the tab and she claimed she never had my card to pay for our tab however she ended up paying our tab with the card since she actually had it. While closing the tab she called me a foul word from behind the bar in front of everyone. Because of this I confronted her and she psychically pushed us all out of the bar saying we weren't welcomed. Loved this place until last night. Great neighborhood "dive bar" that has been my go to since I started working in pioneer square. Charming and unapologetically unique atmosphere with strong drinks and a down to earth atmosphere. My buddy left his back pack at the booth we were sitting in, and upon return, searching for the bag, I found the bouncers phone on the ground. Since I have a broken hand in a cast, I put it in my pocket while I continued to search for the bag. Somehow he saw this and became irate. He kicked me and my friend out and called me a "high tourist" (I've lived in Seattle for my entire life). When I asked why he was so angry he provided no context and threatened to "86 me". Then said he was going to break my other hand. No need for 86, I won't be returning. read more

I went in here on a Saturday night and saw the bartender with blue hair stumbling around behind the counter. She couldn't remember drinks or any tabs and couldn't even stand straight. I saw some customer understandably upset when the bartender said she did not pay for her drinks when she clearly did. And then the bartender called her the c-word and told her to get out. Then even took it to another level when the bartender physically pushed this customer. She should not be working in this state and should not be working at this bar. I work in customer service (barista to be exact) and it's disappointing when i go somewhere new and the service is terrible. The bartender (red hair and bangs) didn't have a great work attitude and seemed agitated. Didn't seem so busy it was still early in the night. my friends and I weren't being sloppy drunks. If that bartender happens To read this I would have loved to tip you 15% but you should also remember that being nice maybe cracking a simple smile or how are you, not even a full on conversation. I don't know what anyone could be going through outside of work but is it your job to at least try and be friendly at your job. We needed 5 sodas, she spilled one and forgot to replace it and when we asked her for one more she had a nasty tone and said "I gave you guys 5 sodas". Not sure if she forgot that she had spilled one of them. Not only that but she seemed like she didn't want to serve us or be there. We only had one round so I know we were behaving well. After she grabs the tab she then kicked us out because "it's socially unacceptable to tip $1 on a $45 tab" but i believe it's socially unacceptable to work a customer service job and expect us to tip when you have been so cold the whole time. Working in customer service and at a high volume coffee shop that also gets tips, I make sure I'm treating my customers well before I expect a tip even the rude customers :) the bouncer was lovely though! read more
