We came here right after our nice dinner at Musang, and the place was already packed when we arrived. You can definitely feel that lively Belltown energy the moment you walk in with dim lighting, chill music, and that cool, slightly hipster lounge vibe that fits perfectly in the neighborhood. The entire staff was already in full Halloween mode, and the bar was decked out with festive decorations everywhere even the drinks were themed! Lol. It was definitely a fun surprise to experience that early in the season. The service was fast, and the bartenders were super friendly and clearly passionate about what they do. Sunday early evening, my friend wanted to check out the holiday pop up. No line to get in, wait to be seated. Was seated on a couch with other guests. The place was tastefully decked out for Christmas. The atmosphere was cozy and festive. Our server was friendly and efficient! I ordered the Cheery Cherry Chocosaurus, it came in a cute cup that looked like a festive dinosaur. The drink was delicious. Was hoping for food but they serve snacks only. The community seating allowed us to interact with other guests. I don't drink in Seattle much so the 20% surcharge is new to me. This establishment bolds it on the receipt so you are aware of it. I've been here twice. In October for Halloween pop up and again in December. The pop up for Halloween was fun, great cocktails and staff. They put a lot of effort into the location and decor for the holiday. When I visited again outside the pop up I was not super impressed. The cocktails where weak and service was spotty. Lots of picture worthy decoration. We all ordered a few drinks to try and it was pretty good, some were strong! You have to order off their menu but that's fine. What a festive spot! Came here the night before thanksgiving for the Miracle bar pop up. The only drinks on the menu are the holiday-themes cocktails. We were totally fine with that as it was our reason for coming. They had small bites/food but we only came for drinks so didn't try any food. It's completely decked out in holiday decorations. We had to order from and then check out and get our card back from another server entirely. I've been to Rob Roy on multiple occasions, for both their Halloween and Christmas pop-up bars. I love how detailed they are with their interior decorating when they're setting up for these themed bars! It really feels like the holidays came and threw up all over the inside of the bar, and I eat it up every time. The space is small, so each time I've come I've had less than ideal seating. There's a long table against the wall in the back which is usually able to accommodate my large party, but everyone has to sit on one side and face the wall, so I usually just end up standing at the other end so I can talk to my friends. Sometimes there can be a really long wait outside to get in too, especially if it's for their themed holiday bars, so be prepared to dress warmly for that. The drinks themselves are pretty good. They usually play well into the theme, arriving in a festive mug and having a silly name. It is a tiki bar, so a lot of the drinks are rum based, which can be a positive or negative thing depending on your taste. Overall, I'd probably continue coming back to celebrate the holidays. It's a good way to get into the festive spirit, and it's right down the street from Navy Strength, which also does similar themed pop-up bars. I can't say I'd be all that interested in returning for just any other regular occasion, but their holiday bars are definitely something worth going out of your way for. read more

We came to Rob Roy's "Black Lagoon" this past Friday. I loved how they decorated! It was spooky and very creepy (in a good way). They captured the look of the Black Lagoon and they nailed their presentation. Book of Blood-if you dislike beets as passionately as I do, you will taste them here. With that being said, elements of this drink were good. If the beets were not present, I would have been all over this. Death Rattle- this drink was so fun. It was served in a tiki mermaid and was very tropical. I would have preferred more lime and less orgeat to make this a little more tart and less sweet, but this was very tiki feeling. I would say for the cocktails themselves, they were decent. While there were things I would have changed, the quality was definitely there, and I enjoyed the conversation with the bartenders and the ambiance. They are absolutely worth a try! read more

Some friends & I went here last night for drinks. This place is amazing! One of the most festive places I have been to yet. The whole place is decorated with wrapping paper & all the fun Christmas decorations. There is Christmas music played the entire time. All of the drinks are Christmas themed. I had the bad Santa which is served hot with spiced rum & oatmilk, it was super yummy & creamy. Also had the egg nog which was equally as good. All of my friends had different drinks as well. Another long overdue review. Came here with some friends last year. We had some extra time to chill before our reservations at Shiro. My friend Maribel T. Said Rob Roy is pretty good/chill spot. I looked at their menu and saw several Japanese whiskeys! I was so excited, even the prices were reasonable compared to other places. I had to get a pour of the Hibiki 17 ($44), I would have spent over $100 if I got the pour at the Portland whisky library! My friends ordered a couple drinks and they were all good! They also provide complimentary gold fishes to snack on and complimentary cup noodles!! I plan to take my BF here who is a whiskey fan. This review is specifically for Miracle on 2nd. Fri 11/22, ~5 minute wait to get in. Drinks were ordered and received quickly, but our server never returned until we flagged them down ~40 minutes later to request the check. Only about 80% capacity by this time. When the check was delivered the server explained that a portion of the 20% service fee was to cover their health insurance and the remainder was distributed among staff as a tip "but additional gratuity is appreciated." This was uncomfortable. Employee benefits should not be brought up with the guest and should remain between ownership/management and their employees. This part of the "service fee" needs to be covered in face value pricing. Additional fees added to a check need to be gratuity only. Cost: $17-24 per drink ($20.40-$28.80 after the additional fees) The drinks were very small and were underwhelming. Unique flavors, cute cups and themed drinks, but not worth the cost. The Christmasaurus comes with whole cumin seeds that than ground cumin which was a bizarre choice. The flavor was fine, but the texture did not work. Atmosphere: The decor seemed cheap and thrown together. Mostly wrapping paper covered boxes/frames, ribbon, and glass paint. Bathrooms were dirty, sticky and had no paper towels. If you are looking for a fun Christmas atmosphere, skip this and try Christmas Dive Bar in Capitol Hill. read more

Rob Roy has been the talk of the town ever since they made it to the finals of the James Bears award and I wanted to try the place ever since I got to know about that. Went there on a Saturday evening, we were a group of 6. We were seated immediately which was nice. However the drinks took forever to show up! Around 30 mins the first time and 20 the second time. The place wasn't even that crowded when we ordered the first set of drinks. We saw other tables waiting for their drinks as well. The drinks were decently priced $13-14 for majority of them which was nice. I got the harvest delight which was quite sweet but it seemed like it didn't have alcohol. I later tried Alaska which I didn't like and my friend didn't like it as well. I switched mine with my boyfriends Future Legend which was still better than mine but o couldn't finish it either. The Yippie Ki Yay had a great tiki flavor. And the Krampus was great but hard to describe. More of an earthy smoky taste than a standard tequila drink and not really spicy. I really loved the ambiance of this place. It definitely hit the nail on the head in terms of festive theme, holiday spirit, and Christmas vibe. That said, this where the greatness ends, unfortunately. We showed up around 7:50 on a Monday night and we waited [outside] right about 35 minutes to be seated. We came as a party of 4, so if you had 2 and you were willing to stand you'd get seated a little earlier. From their holiday drink menu, all of the drinks look pretty creative and fun. We ordered the 4 different cocktails. Man! I took the first sip of mine and it was beyond terrible. I don't know that I've ever sent a drink back, but I was about to start that night. The only reason I didn't is because I tried my wife's cocktail and then our friends and we were all in agreement that each one was equally as bad, if not worse than the others. Price wise, you're looking to pay about $16-19 per cocktail, so they certainly aren't cheap. I came by with some cousins, and we were seated quickly per our reservation (highly recommend making one as it's a small space). We were initially given spots by the bar, but it was difficult to chat as we had a slightly larger group. The staff was extremely accommodating and let us take the couch area as soon as the party there left. Like many places in Seattle, Rob Roy also offered mocktails, but with a twist - there was one that came with a per person limit! The Dreammaker, which was designed to help you relax through their mix of herbs, piqued my interest and ended up as my order. This is a sweet bar in Belltown! They have a good happy hour that includes FREE faux pho ramen (with a purchase of a drink). Does that sound appealing enough to draw you in? It has my interest for next time! For my first drink I ordered the old soul ($12) which was a strong and dry drink. I asked for a drink that was similar to an old fashioned and the old soul was very much like that with a bit of sweetness. For my second drink I got the saffron sandalwood sour ($14) which was so good! It's foamy with the egg white mixed in and it's like a sour-type drink with the lime and it was just very refreshing. It was a great drink and I'd highly recommend that. I tried my friend's south side ($12) which was minty and refreshing as well. She also ordered the bee's knees ($12) which she liked as well.
