The drinks are unique and served in fun mugs. They have christmas music blasting and the space is cozy, offering a more intimate setting. Since the seating is more limited here, the wait can be long (1-2 hours) and seating for groups larger than 3 are harder to get in. Came here with friends for Black Lagoon and expected so much more from a James Beard nominated bar. After asking if one of the ~$18 "specialty" cocktails could be made less sweet, the bartender said they were PRE-BATCHED, couldn't be adjusted, and admitted they had received complaints about the poor quality of the drinks. I did not come to a bar like this expecting to pay a premium for a mediocre pre-batched cocktail, let alone to the knowledge of the staff. To make matters worse, my friend ordered off-menu and wound up with their diluted version of an Aperol spritz, which was a very overpriced Campari and flat soda water. read more

And they have some insanely cool gadget that, and i hope i get this right, double filters tap water and gives it the perfect amount of carbonation, then mixes it with alcohol for the perfect highball. It's true - i hate carbonated water but it was tasty! Now to bartender Timothy. That man knows how to mix a drink! He will even carve ice in front of you so that the proper sized ice cube goes into the drink. If sipping a hot toddy-like drink out of Santa's head isn't festive, then I don't know what is! Made my first visit to Roy Rob two days before Christmas and was visited by many Christmas spirits during their Miracle on 2nd holiday pop-up. It was great - everything oozed holiday with walls covered in wrapping paper, holiday lights, trees, and all the holiday classics blasting through the speakers. It was a lot of fun! My friends and I enjoyed many of the festive drinks like the Run Run Rudolph and the Fa La La La La La La La. Each drink was tastier (and stronger) than the last and we had such a great time. The Miracle on 2nd pop-up is such a fun idea and I plan on visiting next holiday season as well. This place is goooood. My boyfriend and I love exploring cocktail bars and I stumbled upon this place about a month ago. He loves his saffron cocktail every time we come here and I pretty much like everything they make. We've been to The Nest, The Fog Room and Zig zag cafe last Sunday and cocktails at the Nest were the worst. They had Weird combo of Bubbly wines and watery liqueur. With a low key vibe, I have never noticed this place until recently. Came here on a Tuesday night and overall, it was definitely a busy place with the locals :) If you prefer having intimate conversations, I recommend sitting on the couches....The vibe definitely makes you feel like those old movie scenes where people would gather together to smoke cigars and just being laid back. If you prefer the typical bar experience, simply grab a table on the side. Rob Roy is definitely more of a cocktail bar, with interesting concoctions that sound pretty tempting. I forgot the one I had, but it was mighty tasty and light. One thing I find a little eh, was the loudness of the music. Maybe this was a disguised dive bar...but I felt the loud music clashed a wee bit with the vibe of the place. Other than that, I did enjoy taking in the scene, from the unique abstract art on the wall, to noticing the minor details of the interior design. In summary, I know I would want to swing back here to sample more yummy drinks. Do note, this is a pretty small place, so huge groups = difficult to coordinate seating together. read more

Then it's like a golden ticket into Santa's workshop for adults--adults who imbibe. They go all out with the decorations and holiday themed cocktails. It's a holiday tradition for us, and many thanks to Rob Roy for figuring out a way to keep the tradition alive in the to go format. So thankful we were able to get the holiday themed cocktail take out, and the meatballs were tasty. It's a nice touch to be able to purchase the holiday themed drinkware that you typically find there every year. They did a great job with the to go kits. Being able to order online streamlined the pickup, and the kits were packed with everything labeled and yes, even the goldfish crackers were included. Another place that has been on my list and it lived up to the hype. Great drinks and bartenders willing to help you find what you like. I think that is what make these places special, the bartenders because I have no idea what some of this stuff is on the menu, but these guys do it right. Anyhow, we made a total of two quick stops in before and after our New Years Eve celebrations. Thankfully the place was not too packed which allowed us to ask questions to the bartender so we could find a drink that matched our tastes. Everything was great and I remembered the Manhattan being one of the best that I have tried in awhile. Some reviews mention that the drinks are small and expensive, but this seems to be the theme lately in Seattle, so there drink are worth it and at 10 bucks pretty much the average, some places are charging 13-14 for the same thing. I definitely need to make a stop back in a explore some more of the drinks, but I would rate Rob Roy in the top five of places to grab mixed drinks. Zig Zag (I love that it is difficult to find), Bathtub Gin, 1022 South J (Tacoma) and Canon. This is a place to come chill, try some amazing drinks and relax with some friends. These days, if you know how to mix vermouth with whiskey, people will think you're an expert. I'm happy to report that the bartenders here KNOW what they're doing. This place is amazing. There's plenty of exposed stone, black leather and cool art. Also, I should probably mention the turntable with a couple of shelves of vinyl. (hello audiophiles?!) Aside from the incredibly delicious Flatland Yeti, I also had my all time fave cocktail, the Vesper. The former has the spiciness of ginger combined with herbaceous yellow chartreuse and rosemary. The latter, well, it's basically a very large shot. Here, it's made really smooth and very icy, just the way I like it. Anthony Bourdain ended up at RRs after "Renee (Erickson) and Matt (Dillon) suggest Rob Roy after my [his] epic meal." We ended up there by default, waiting for a table to open at a nearby restaurant. The name Rob Roy may sound more like a greasy burger joint or a dive bar, but when you walk into this lounge - look up Rob Roy in the dictionary and a picture of its interior with be there - you know you've found something special. From the tufted leather on the walls, flagship stones behind the bar, dimly lit with just the right shades of color, and a small wall of vinyl that would make even the greatest of collectors jealous - they certainly know how to pick the tunes - Rob Roy oozes "chill." The barkeep are super friendly and know how to make some killer cocktails. Monday nights are Tiki Night with specialty cocktails like "Balsa Raft" - delish! During happy hour, you get free goldfish crackers and "Faux Pho Noodles" if you please. Nice & chill place to come to have a drink after work on a weekday, actually able to have a conversation with a friend vs screaming across the table. Its not a huge place but they do have a small outside spot, couches to sit, ledge & stools to sit next to the wall, and a few high top tables. Modern looking decor, dark, dimly lit, dark woods and nice lighting. Cocktail drinks are great, beer selection is ok, they also have wine and champagne drinks as well. Located next to a bunch of other places if you plan on hopping around in Belltown for drinks, but overall I really like Rob Roy! Not only do they have your general classics but fun seasonal drinks, various harder-to-find liquors, and interesting concoctions that don't sound like the ingredients would work together...but they so, so do. Perfect place for a date, a night cap, or even just a night alone with a book. The only sad part is yes, this place is not a huge venue so it can get rather crowded. It is a 'hidden gem' of sorts and you would likely walk right past it if you did not see the sidewalk sign. But boy oh Rob Roy (see what I did there) do they have a mean Old Fashioned and Bees Knees. The drinks were good but they staff was intrusive and rushed us the entire time. We felt like they were trying to get us out the whole time. We probably had 15x asks in the two hours we were there about wanting more drinks. from the minute our drinks were 3/4 empty 3-5x we were asked if we wanted a refill. Our drinks were taken when there were still a few sips left and we were asked to cash out five min after our second drink and then 10 min after finishing our last drink the busser told us he was going to take our chair. None of this translates that well in writing because mainly it was just the energy and body language that you just feel intuitively from people. All of this could have gone down and not felt pushy but the vibe or the message sent was clearly about making money only and not about the customer. And it's not like we didn't spend any money. We spent $100 in a little under two hours so it's not like we were loitering. It just wasn't a good vibe at all. Only a positive note, the drinks although small and pricy, we're clearly created by an artist and we're delish. I'd be torn about going back and only gave three stars because of how good the drinks were. read more

I'm not going to lie but my friends and I entered this bar on Friday because I had to pee and I was pleasantly surprised with the urinals. This was the first time that I've seen citrus fruits arranged nicely inside of the urinal. Kudos to whoever arranged and replaces these fruits on a regular basis. Pure magic. Anywho, their HH the drinks and food are half off, they have FREE goldfish and "pho" ramen (basically a beef cup noodle with one thai basil leaf and a slice of lime). We ordered several drinks and a few of their food items including the meatballs and pasta, breakfast sandwiches, and "pho". Everything I tried was surprisingly good, and the portions were generous. The drinks were amazing, I had a Tom Collins and their punch which was really good. This place is intimate and perfect for small dates. However, since there were 7 of us, it was hard for all of us to sit around the bar and talk as there weren't very many areas for a larger group of people. read more
