I am at little confused to why locals rate this restaurant four stars, but personally I found the menu a bit confusing. Every item has a plus sign next to it, so you end up doing math while ordering. It almost feels like a way to make the prices seem more affordable than they actually are. That said, the customer service is top notch. Everyone was very personable and genuinely welcoming, which definitely stood out. As for the food, it wasn't my favorite due to a lack of flavor. However, it clearly works for the locals, so this may just come down to personal preference.

Really busy shop with friendly staff. We came on a weekday during lunch and there was a good amount of people around like 4 tables/orders besides us. We ordered the falafel burger and the kebab gyro. The pita was soft and my partner enjoyed the kebab. My falafel burger was perfect -- it wasn't overly spicy but had all the flavors of a good burger. Our only complaint is the fries, which were overcooked and as a result a little more on the drier side. The large portion of fries was very generous and probably better suited to 3 people rather than 2. Overall, we would come back. Lovely shop!

Walked in the doors AND IT SMELLED SO GOOD! This small restaurant is serving yummy food. Very busy at 5:30 this Monday (!) evening. My local son and I love GYROS. We received not exactly warm fluffy pita filled delights, but my son rated them "not bad to good". The gyro meat was really good! Which actually means we will be back because, people, this is Arcata! Thank you to the team behind this restaurant and keep doing the best that you can. Your local clientele is proof that you're doing the right thing. Kebab Cafe, if you can can improve the tatziki sauce and the Pita bread, it will help so much 5/19/25

Overall a decent place, nothing that is gonna wow you or anything but the beef was a bit on the tough side but what can you expect. The pita bread was great.

Healthy, mostly* fresh, tasty food. Order at the register & sit to be served or take away. Plenty of people came to pick up. Casual dining. *the dolma tasted like it came from a can but the rest tasted fresh, especially the warm pita.

Friendly staff. Good variety. Clean. Tastes great! Lots of locals come here for good eats. They make a trade off on whether to have the meat cooking all day on the vertical spit or keep the sliced meat in a warmer/rice cooker/crock pot. From the pot it was warm and moist.

As we were looking for food in the area. I asked friends on Facebook for recommendations and this place was highly spoken of. So glad we stopped in and got some goodies. My wife got a falafel and the atomic mushrooms. I got the gyros and 2 orders of the shrimp kebabs. Were originally from the Bay Area, San Francisco(Me) and Berkeley(wife) and everything we ate meet our stomachs needs. lol. Soooooo good and highly recommend. Great job ladies and Thanks for waiting on us.

Small spot with great food. The staff were very helpful accommodating and explaining what we could/couldn't have due to an allergy & offered alternates where possible. The food itself was okay, not the best Greek food I've had by far, but still decent. Pita was dry and not soft, but the gyro meat was flavorful enough and they gave us a good amount. The service was questionable; the workers were nice but mildly dismissive. My friends and I ordered 4 gyros and a dinner plate with kebab. The waitress asked if we wanted sauce on the side, so we said yes for all the gyros. When we received the food, half the gyros had no sauce at all, and half had tzaziki on the pita (we asked for red sauce as well). We came back to the restaurant after we noticed, which was around 30 mins later. After telling one of the workers our order, they said that the sauce should already be in the bag and did not say anything else. We were confused as to why the worker didn't seem to believe us and didn't want to give us the sauce we ordered. The worker who originally took our order eventually gave us a container of red sauce, but it still wasn't what we originally wanted. Overall, this place is a decent place to get Greek food in a small town. I would probably not come back here again though.

Love this place! It is a go-to when I don't want to cook/clean the kitchen. Delicious food, great prices, and it never takes long. If you call ahead 5 minutes it will be done when you get there. If anyone riding in your car asks you to take them to the McDonald's or Carl's Jr, do them a favor and just take them here instead. It's right next to these fast food joints and offers REAL food for the exact same price. read more

It smelled so good when I walked in....I had a kebab dinner (1 pork and 1 beef) it came with a "salad" that had my entire plate swimming in dressing...I was craving salt so I ordered french fries but they were on the plate drowning in the salad dressing. Bummer. The kebabs were OK but not as good as everything smelled. My group all liked their meals - some had pitas, so I'll return and next time I'll try the lamb pita. read more

First time I've ever had a gyro and it was aaaaammmaaaazzzziiiiinnnngggggg. Prices are on point, atmosphere was nice- felt the cultural vibes with the beautiful decorations all around the store. Kitchen and place looked clean and the staff was as nice as cherry pie. Or a falafel. Great people, great eats, go here to eat. read more

Super yummy and not bad pricing. Portions are pretty big for one person, so I also had lunch for the next day. I spent about $12 with tip included for a huge gyro, fries, and an apple juice. Great selection of organic drinks (and others) and a great selection of different dishes to try. Worth stopping in, that's for sure. read more

Delicious! The place was packed. They asked if I phoned an order in, which I did not, so thought I'd have to wait. My giant gyro was ready in 3 minutes. Juicy, warm and fulfilling. The girls behind the counter were super nice too. Great food for the price. read more

Love love love the food!!!! Best around. Only negative is that they aren't consistent. Some days are better than others, but even with that, awesome. My husband and I stayed overnight in Arcata a few weeks ago. We saw the Kebab Café and decided to try it for dinner. I had a falafel and he had a gyro. We've eaten a lot of falafels and gyros over the years but Kebab Cafe's was the best ever. I remember thinking -wow this is how a falafel should taste - full of interesting spices and not leaden like so many other restaurants serve. The gyro was also delicious. Our only regret is that we don't live close to Arcata, otherwise we would go to this place all the time. The restaurant was casual, comfortable with Turkish music and wall decorations. Seemed like a lot of local people were there eating. We will definitely stop in for a meal next time we go through Arcata. read more

The area is very short on Greek restaurants, so it seems a bit demeaning to say that they have the best gyros around. Having lived in Europe with many Greek and Turkish restaurants, let me say that Kebab Cafe is right at the top of the list. Staff is friendly and food selection is great. French fries are the best (lots of fry choices) around, crisp and fresh. Waiting for them to move closer to Eureka, or at least expand as the restaurant is rather compact. read more

The decor is nice. However, I have traveled quite a bit in Turkey and Greece; so, I was a little disappointed when I got the Mediterranean salad. On the menu it said black olives. Maybe it was my fault to think that it would be Kalamata or a similar olive. To my dismay it was California ripe olives; that is like putting ketchup on sushi. The baba ganoush was not too authentic and a very small portion. However, the price was very low so, it wasn't too disappointing. The Falafel was pretty good. I have made way better food on my own, at home. read more

I love this little place. It is slightly out of the way but worth the effort. They have some of the best food around from hamburgers to my favorite their gyro. I am addicted to their gyros i eat there at least once a week. Very affordable also. The fries are always good and they have the best baklava. read more

Food is mediocre at best. The gyro is worth about 4 dollars at most. They might get more stars if it weren't so overpriced. I have been here several times hoping the food would taste less bland, but have been consistently disappointed. You can tell that lots of the food has been microwaved or comes from a can. If they are going to serve sub-par food, I expect to pay lower prices. It doesn't help that service is almost always rude, even from the owner, who should be representing his business better. I gave it a fair chance, but will NOT be back. read more

The Kebab Cafe is nice little hole-in-the-wall at the Valley West shopping center, and a good place for a quick lunch. Their gyros are great, kebabs delicious, just as the rest of their menu is. Prices are fair, service quick, and selection extensive. Definitely one of the better quick food options in Arcata, Kebab cafe has delicious Mediterranean food that satisfies me whenever the craving hits. read more

Ever since we've moved here over 3 yrs ago, the Kabab Cafe has had the best lamb gyros! We've eaten gyros all over, never as good as the Kabab Cafe's. Best dolmas, fries, & fiery atomic shrooms. Conveniently located near Ray's grocerie store, Radio Shack, & Harbor Frieght! I highly reccommend indulging in an ice cold Sam Adam's Lagar whith your order, maybe two. Owners and staff are personable, friendly, and consistantly awsome! read more

Went in there tonight with a coworker after seeing the great reviews. Placed an order to go and payed separately. The lady who took our order said she would send them both out at the same time. After a 20 minute wait my name was called and I grabbed my bag. We waited 15 more minutes (it wasn't even that busy) for my coworkers food until he asked if they forgot about him. They immediately made his order. What rubbed me the wrong way is that after we had both orders I asked for napkins and one of the cooks grabbed and opened my bag to find two sandwiches! I suppose it was our mistake for not checking and just sitting there like idiots, but the guy literally opened up both sandwiches, asked me what I ordered, put it back together, and took the extra sandwich! WTF!!! read more

Awesome food! Haven't tried all of their food, but I have been there over two-dozen times and cant get past the gyros and falafel burgers to try anything else on the menu. The fries arent great, but who really cares when it comes to gyros. Go to the kebab cafe, you wont regret it. read more

I've been going to this place with my dad since it first opened when I was a little kid many years ago. Good memories of my dad and I getting a gyro to go then going to Mad River Beach and enjoying the deliciousness in a nice scenery. Love their gyros! I used to go there all the time when I'd visit my dad in NorCal. Then when I attended HSU what a treat. Loved enjoying a nice delicious gyro anytime I wanted. And their tzatziki sauce.... YUM. Now that I moved back to SoCal I crave this place all the time. Still makes the best gyro I've had. The manager is really nice too. I miss this place. read more

We like Kebab Cafe. I cannot speak for the authenticity of the food but the gyros are a hit with our family as well as the large gyro burgers, YUM! They can be pretty busy but I think that is a good thing I don't mind waiting in line here! read more

First time at the cafe and I have to say it was on fire!! I had the traditional gyro with tzatziki sauce. The ground lamb/beef was tender, flavorful and cooked perfectly so it wasn't tough. Pita bread came out warm and fluffy, not too thin like I've seen at other places. It could've used a little more cucumber or cabbage for crunch but the all around taste and texture was delicious. Another reason why it was on fire.. The HOTSAUCE!! Ohhh myyy.. I love heat, just know this habanero-based sauce will light you up! lol I poured it on the whole thing before I overheard the server saying she only put a couple DROPS on her gyro. use sparingly. Can't wait to come back and try the kebabs. Cute decorations as well in this small dining establishment. read more

I would've mentioned it in the comments, but I didn't think about it. It was just your standard white toast. It was OK, but I would've preferred like a nice sourdough, or rye, or something like that. "Wow" is truly an understatement. My burger was packed with so much flavor - the burger patty felt luxurious, almost like I was eating a steak. The onion rings and bacon in the burger had a satisfying crunchiness and sweetness that was accompanied by an amazing BBQ sauce. I have absolutely no complaints about the burger - eating it was a delightful experience. The curly fries were also good - a steady, basic accompaniment to the burger without too much flavor on their own. However, what the curly fries lacked in flavor they made up for in bulk. And honestly, I don't know what I would have done if the curly fries were as dressed up as my burger anyways...I probably would have lost my mind completely. I ordered my burger for takeout, so I can't speak to the indoor vibe of the restaurant. But what I will say is that I will DEFINITELY be eating here again, and if you're on the fence about eating here/picking up food from here, go ahead and treat yourself!

It was fresh and the dressing was light and delicious. It was large enough to share. Not realizing how large the salad would be, my husband also ordered the calamari as an appetizer. It was cooked perfectly with a light breading and it wasn't not greasy at all. For our main course, we split the Salsiccia pizza. It was the perfect size for us to share, especially given the appetizers we had. The amount of toppings were on the sparser side, but that just might be the nature of that pizza. Side note on the service: Our server was friendly enough but she was not very familiar with the menu. I asked if I could substitute the lettuce in the Market Salad for romaine and she didn't think that was possible. I explained I didn't want field greens and/or big leaves and she assured me those were not used in the salad. She said she thought it was iceberg and it was chopped very fine. With that, I ordered the salad. When it arrived, it was actually bibb lettuce that was left in relatively large pieces. At least it wasn't field greens! In their new location, they have a great patio. If I were a local, I think this could be a great place to hang out and enjoy their crafty cocktails. But since I'm not, I don't think I'll be back to Salt.

Decent food - could be MUCH better, not really the authentic Mediterranean food I was hoping for. However, I was so impressed by the customer service that I wouldn't have the heart to rate any fewer than 3 stars. They really do try hard at what they do, I think - unfortunately, it just isn't enough. I mean, you come to a restaurant for the food... good customer service alone is not enough to make it (though bad customer service can break it). The food just is not impressive at all (last gyro burger I had was dry and surprisingly bland). But it is cheap and quick - and the people are good and hard-working, so I would never say "do not come here." Now, I wouldn't necessarily recommend this place either, but it wouldn't hurt to give them a chance if you haven't been here before. I come from a family of cooks and chefs, so I just have very little tolerance for food that isn't as good as it could or should be - and I know it COULD and should be a lot better. This is truly one of the best Kebab restaurants that I have eaten at. It is priced extremely well considering everything is custom made and made fresh everyday. The Falafel is absolutely excellent and is complimented with hummus. The portion sizes are very good. Im not sure why some of the previous comments say that the portion size is small. Unless you eat a TON of food, their portions are more then enough. The gyro with the tatziki and fresh vegetables are delicious.I read some mixed reviews but I have to say that you can see it is family owned and they are trying their best to please their customers and keep their food as consistent as possible. Don't let these crazy people talk you out of going, this food is hand prepared Dailey and none of it is canned or half assed. It's very good, the falafel is the best around.. And at 2 dollars per ball it makes sense, it's handmade everyday and it's very HARD to make.
