Tried this place out today, no expectations, ordered the hood burger, fired pickles and Philly egg rolls. All was delicious and perfect! Beware of the Philly egg roll let it cool 5 minutes burned my lip from cheese inside-but worth it!! Service was good. One change don't add corn meal to fried pickles throws it off, and you gotta get rid of the place smelling like an old thrift shop. But good food, will come again!!! read more

I actually hate to give this place two stars since the service and atmosphere was nice. My experience started well as this place came highly recommended. Unfortunately, towards the end of my Shrimp Caesar I discovered a few hair strands which made my stomach turn. The server was extremely kind, removing the salad from our bill but I couldn't unsee that hair (yuck). She offered us churros to go which were great. I realize things happen but hopefully they are more careful. It was dealt with so pleasantly, that made it a little better. read more

I ordered a burger, onion rings, and fried zucchini from The Hood, and honestly, the food was really disappointing. The burger was extremely greasy and had a weird taste. The onion rings and fried zucchini were drenched in oil, and the batter on the zucchini was undercooked. I even put it in the oven when I got home, and you can see the oil still bubbling. We recently visited Hood in Eureka with a group of about 30 people. We were well aware that bringing a large party can be a challenge, so we made a point to be respectful, easygoing, and patient. The service staff was fantastic -- attentive, kind, and responsive. A few menu items were unavailable, but that wasn't an issue for us. Most of the food was great and came out in a reasonable amount of time. Unfortunately, the experience took a serious downturn when one of our guests received a burger that was completely inedible. The smell coming off it was rancid -- like it had been cooked on a filthy grill or mixed with spoiled seafood. The odor was so pervasive that others around the table could smell it immediately, and it even lingered on hands after handling it. Some of the boys in our group who received their burgers afterward encountered the same issue -- same smell, same problem. When we brought it to our server's attention, she let us know that the owner, who was also helping on the floor, would need to handle it. When the owner arrived, she didn't bother to smell or examine the burger -- instead, she grabbed it, walked away, and slammed it down on a metal table, making a loud bang that startled the entire restaurant. The server later apologized for the owner's behavior, but it was obvious to everyone that it was intentional. When the owner finally addressed one of the women in our group, she was rude and immediately confrontational. She led with, "Here's the thing, I've been in food service for 30 years and we hand make our burgers every day. I don't smell anything bad." She dismissed the concerns of the entire group of 30 people, essentially suggesting we were imagining it. She took no responsibility, was defensive, and flat-out refused to refund all three of the offending burgers -- only removing two from the bill, despite the fact that none were eaten. It would have cost her less than \$60 retail to make the situation right on what was an approximately \$1,000 check, but she chose to argue instead. It was clear from the staff's reactions that her behavior wasn't a surprise. The servers were excellent, and we tipped them generously, but it's obvious they're working under an owner who lacks basic customer service skills and empathy. We won't return, and while we don't visit Eureka often, I can't imagine this kind of ownership makes for a healthy business or work environment. read more

My lunch companion went with a chicken pesto sandwich with garlic fries. We were both delighted with our choices. Service was personalized and efficient. Came across this place during the small business Saturday, and the Eureka snowball drop. Really cool and fussy place. Breakfast tacos were amazing, Bacon Gouda fries are not to be missed. Just a really good burger. Juicy, flavorful, fresh, with a perfect bun. I don't know what higher compliment I can give, but it hit the spot. The onion rings were excellent. Crispy golden brown, not soggy, with a delightful variety in each ring. These aren't machine-formed paste, just fresh onion done right. It's a rare treat, a good onion ring. Fries you can get anywhere. The Habanero sauce was a surprise.. fresh, tangy, potent -- consider getting it on the side so you can moderate it as you go. The side-cup serving size is about perfect for one burger, but you can disagree. The fried pickles are a novelty to me.. they are what they sound like, and you probably already know if you'd like them. Friendly service, everything came out together, hot, and rockin. If anything, I wish maybe the table lighting wasn't spotlights glaring down on the table? It's a weird thing to say, I know. The burgers here are very good. My husband and I went in on a Saturday night. We didn't have to wait at all, we got seated right away. I ordered the teriyaki chicken burger and bbq wings. The wings are so good. The fries were also perfect with good seasoning. You can tell they make their food with fresh ingredients. They use local ingredients as well which is awesome. Very odd experience the last time I stopped in. I tried to order shrimp piccata, the waitress told me they were out of shrimp and before I even had a chance to process her sentence, tells me never mind, they do have it. Confusing because she literally walked about 3 feet away (not into the kitchen) after telling me she was going to ask, and returned with that answer while I could see her the entire time. Odd - but I let it slide. The shrimp was seasoned for their tacos I'm assuming and the piccata had so many capers in it that it was way too acidic and inedible. I then ordered fried zucchini just to get something in my stomach - they were absolutely disgusting. $65 later I walked out disappointed and still hungry. Had reservations for 5, @ 5 & the place was a dead zone. "Burgers all come medium rare unless specified" 4/5 ordered burgers. All asked for medium rare. ALL our burgers were well done. I asked for regular avocado on my works burger instead of the spread. Got no avocado. For 20$ you'd think you can cook a burger right. Every item we ordered was disappointing. Seems as if they make big batches ahead of the time. *Cheese gravy"= grainy and not very flavorful. * Bahn mi burger= extremely greasy. *Pork belly= some of the worst I've ever had, soggy and mostly fat and not the yummy kind of fat. I typically love pork belly so I was pretty disappointed to say the least. *Chicken Marsala= sauce was very watery and had way too much lemon flavor. *Garlic bread = pretty good Service was ok, took along time to get our food, seemed like maybe the waiting staff was new to the profession. The server apologized and took it back to the kitchen, and the owner came out to confront me, telling me there was no salt in the soup and it couldn't possibly be too salty. It was as though she wanted me to apologize to her. She then went and got the recipe book so she could show me that salt wasn't in the recipe, but you know what was? Vinegar! You don't put vinegar in tomato soup. Also she didn't make the soup. She doesn't know if someone put salt in it or not and if a customer says something is too salty, you apologize and try to get them something else, you don't try to make them feel stupid or prove that they're wrong. What kind of way is that to run a business? We're never going back there and I have nothing but bad things to say. Best wings in Eureka, by far. I have sampled all their flavors now and followed them for the old location at 6th and E neighborhood eatery. I have found my favorite combination of ordering the BBQ with 2 sides of buffalo to poor over and OMG, words can't describe it. Perfect crisp wings is all that comes to mind. They pair perfect with their regular house fries. I have probably started coming here 2 times a month just for their wings. The service is almost always great, honestly can't complain about the friendliness or staff, just a little slow sometimes(no big deal, really) It's a great location , very beautiful woodwork and I've seen some decent sized groups be served here with no issues.
