I stopped in for lunch. A nice little space. They have a decent menu with breakfast items, and both Mexican and Guatemalan items. They also have Guatemalan items for sale over at the register. I decided to go for the garnachas, which is a Guatemalan street food, similar to a sope. These were like little mini sopes. . The corn masa cake base was delicious, and it was not over fried. The ground beef was seasoned very well, the veggies gave it a nice pop of freshness. The cheese was great, and I especially loved the sauce. The sauce just brought it all together. There was a little pile of jalapeño, onion, and carrot in the middle. I didn't touch the jalapeño. I tried the carrot and the onion, but they were too spicy for me. Not a big deal. It was a nice lite lunch, and with soda, tax and tip, the price was very reasonable. I definitely want to come back and try more items off of this menu. Thank you. read more

Food at Guatemalan Yum Yum was 100% delicious, authentic and reasonably priced. We ordered garnachas, empanadas, pupusas as well as Tamales. If only this restaurant was in LA, we'd be there all the time supporting this gem of a location because finding Guatemalan food is somewhat rare!! GYY, what a treat to find in Humboldt, the in dining experience would have also been superb as the location offers plenty of comfortable seating to choose from. We had the papusas Which we never had before and they were great. It's like a stuffed pancake made of yellow corn masa , and stuffed with different things from meats to veg is and cheese. So we had decided on lunch by the waterfront, but it didn't work out. Checking Yelp this restaurant appeared nearby and seeing the name and pics we were drawn like a moth to the flame. If you don't have the cash to travel to Guatemala and taste the amazing cuisine there, may I suggest that you make a stop here when traveling along the Northern California Coast. The Yelp reviews led me to try this place, and their outdoor signage encouraged me to show up during happy hour for their discounted cocktails. Unfortunately, the restaurant was under some construction, and on a quiet Thursday afternoon at 430 was nearly deserted. It doesn't seem like a happy hour destination, brightly lit and sparsely occupied. Service was pretty slow and disinterested. No visible bar, so my pina colada drink was made in the back with an extremely long wait, and no offer of a second one. Husbands Modelo Negra was $5.50 in the bottle, a fair but not stellar deal. So drinks are not their priority. But the food is clearly a priority! We tried a bean and cheese pupusa, and a jalapeno and cheese pupusa, plus a single green corn tamale. Staff was professional, polite, and location was neat and tidy. Food tasted fresh and was prompt, but I couldn't help but feel that the food tasted like the cook has never had genuine Mexican or Salvadoran food. The flavors were off or non-existent (with the pupusas). The burrito came with onions and a type of rice that you encounter in a lot of frugal instant rice meals. With that being said, mea culpa for ordering Mexican and Salvadoran food at a Guatemalan restaurant. My partner and I have gotten dinner to go two days in a row and I only managed to take a pic of one food item, we immediately devoured things before I thought to take a picture but luckily reordered and I remembered to get the garnachas captured. Found this little gem while visiting Eureka looking through reviews the food looked so good and I had to try it! My favorite was the garnachas which come with ground beef. I asked to try with steak and I'm so glad I did! They're small comes with 6, good for sharing. Ask for a side of spicy salsa if u like it more spicy! We tried the chicken Chuchito that was delicious!
