The remote location means your cell phone will have zero bars as well, so enjoy the romantic ambiance with your company. I've been hearing great things for years, my first visit here was a bit less than expected. Service did not get off to a great start. The server was very slow at getting to our table. I suspect it was the loud gentleman seated at the table behind us, but I digress. Once the server came over, we were off to the races. We started with the carpaccio, roasted garlic, and portobello appetizers. Delicious! I would highly recommend each one. The board that is served complimentary was delicious as well. I enjoyed a glass of the Inkblot Cab Franc with my NY Sirloin fully dressed. I love a good steak, and this one was right up there! We didn't have room for dessert but ordered the signature dessert to go. This place has legendary status in Humboldt County so of course we had to try it. It is very cheese centric. The appetizer plate that arrives before the entree has at least one hard and one soft cheese with their pumpernickel bread. The brie en croute is novel with a cranberry compote accompaniment. The portobello mushroom is also tasty with a very lovely sheeps cheese. The brisket was mildly spicy but could have been a little leaner. I found the dishes to be well presented, but they all skewed sweet to very sweet. They needed a bit more savory to make the meal more robust. Food is so Dam Good! We spent 4 days traveling northern CA-THE BEST food our entire journey. The gorgonzola sauce on top of the steak with truffle butter was amazing! Yes, the salad with balsamic and bell peppers was really delicious. The salad that comes with the meal is fun and perfect. Fish of the day - we went with steelhead and changed the bed to risotto. Can't go wrong the flavors were on point and everything was perfectly cooked. Vanilla crème brûlée- wow the top was amazing and crunch and the flavor was perfect including the texture. Signature desert- I don't remember the name but might have been a little too smoky for me. I like the textures and it was so cute how it was served. Lemon tart? The bomb! So worth it!! Oh and the music - I say on the bench and put on my shoes and thought someone might be inside playing a piano. This is an excellent spot for a nice, classy dinner up in Trinidad! From the presentation to the flavors, you can tell they put a lot into creating a great dining experience here. I have dined on the picturesque outdoor patio, as well as the upstairs dining area. Meals include the appetizer board of cheeses, fruits, dips, and bread. The coconut shrimp (a special appetizer) was crispy and flavorful. I loved the chicken cordon bleu as well -- the sauce was creamy and the chicken was perfectly cooked and tender. For dessert this time we ordered the lemon tart pie as recommended by our server, and it was delicious -- a better cousin of key lime pie in my opinion. Service was great! A Redwood Coast Gem - Don't Miss This Place After a full day hiking through the redwoods, we stumbled into Larrupin' Cafe in Trinidad and it ended up being one of the best meals we've had--not just on this trip, but period. We showed up a few minutes past closing and they still graciously seated us upstairs with a view of their dreamy garden. Our server, Cheyenne, was a total standout--cool, knowledgeable, and just genuinely lovely to talk to. That "cool girl energy" without the attitude? She nailed it. We started with the baked brie wrapped in pastry with fig compote (melty perfection), followed by their appetizer board--which felt like a little love letter to Northern California: house-made chicken pâté, local Monterey Jack, smoked steelhead, goat cheese, figs, cucumber, sweet cherry peppers, and pumpernickel. Farm-to-table magic. I had the special: steelhead served over coconut rice with the best house salad I've ever had. Not exaggerating. My partner got the snapper with a soy miso glaze and mushroom risotto that somehow tasted like fettuccine Alfredo's more sophisticated cousin. Rich, savory, and impossible to stop eating. I also had two peach lambic beers that paired way too well with everything. And dessert? A whipped, sweetened goat cheese layered over chocolate and finished with a bright fruit compote. Wildly good. Ours also had an African chili berry, which I had never had before and tasted delicious. The breads were also noteworthy. For mains, we got the brisket and the trout. The brisket was very tasty. It had been slow smoked and was extremely tender, and the sauce it was finished with was smoky and sweet. The trout was well prepared, and was tender and perfectly cooked. Unprofessional and unsanitary. Locals rave about this place but maybe the bar is just set that low? We reached out to the owner to share our experience afterwards and to let them know of things they may not know are happening. Well, we were just given more lies and then ignored. So they probably know about their unsanitary ways and just don't care. Honestly, we are really bummed about the entire evening, experience, and how the owner handled things. We visited Larrupin a couple of weeks ago. I had been there numerous times over the years but my husband had been once long ago and didn't remember being there. Absolutely everything was perfect. We ordered a couple of grilled small Pacific oysters to start, which came with a tiny bowl of Larrupin sauce. The oysters were only slightly warmed and not really cooked - the briny flavor came through. The appetizer tray that comes with all dinners included house-baked rye bread, chicken liver pate with Larrupin mustard, tiny lightly pickled peppers, apple slices, two kinds of cheese, smoked salmon - I may be forgetting something. We both said we should really take some photos but we dug in too fast. There was an appetizer special of coconut prawns which they turned into a main course at our request. Those were not frozen-out-of-the-box prawns, but extra-large fat hand-breaded prawns. I've never been crazy about coconut prawns - it seems wrong to have sweet coconut coating seafood - but this was the best version I've ever had. We also had cordon bleu - chicken breast stuffed with prosciutto and Havarti cheese and topped with a marsala-mushroom sauce. I am a clean-plate ranger but that was the largest portion of chicken breast I've ever been served. The chicken was moist and tender. My husband had the sweet potato and I had the coconut-macadamia rice. He said the sweet potato was creamy and luscious; the rice went beautifully with the chicken. We also had a glass of Onward Sparkling Malvasia Petillant Naturel and a glass of Ferrari Carrano Fume Blanc, excellent wines both. It was my husband's birthday and he was given coeur de la creme with raspberry sauce on the house. I had the same. A very nice not-too-sweet ending. My partner and I visited on a weekend afternoon for an early dinner. The ambiance and vibes were very dark yet super eclectic - there was always a piece of decor for us to talk about. We ordered the oysters as an app, half and half (brisket and ribs) and New York strip loin, and limoncello tart for dessert. The oysters were super tasty and fresh especially with a squeeze of lemon and dollop of cocktail sauce. The brisket was super tender and delicious (I also really liked the burnt ends) and the rib meat legit fell off the bone. The NY strip loin was super yummy especially with the gorgonzola and mushrooms on top. The limoncello tart was very tart (duh) but really helped to cut the heaviness of all the red meat we had. My partner and I came here for our 2 year anniversary! Our friends have raved about this being the perfect date spot. You get a complimentary cheese/bread board with your dinner which was so good and allowed us both to try something new like chicken liver pate. They had fresh local oysters which we each had one, but cooked because we don't like them raw (lol) and they were so good! I am familiar with their local Larrupin sauce which was paired with multiple dishes here and is super good as well, especially on a salad. We had a garlic appetizer that was too fancy for us to pronounce the full name of, but came with bread, cheese, olives, and pecans and was also good of course. I had the lemon dill steelhead salmon with asparagus and salad. My partner had the half and half brisket and ribs combo with a twice baked potato and salad as well. Both of our dishes were delicious, we could not eat it all. The salad was fresh and our proteins were cooked to perfection. For desert I had a lemon cheesecake and my partner had a goat cream cheese situation with raspberry drizzle in the shape of a heart! Our server gave us this one on the house since it was our anniversary! Both deserts were delicious but I preferred my lemon dessert more (: I would recommend this to anyone as they weren't too pricey but definitely a great spot for anyone traveling through or wanting a nice date. Here's the deal! Larrupin is couple miles off the Main Street of the scenic fishing / tourist town of Trinidad! Unassuming from the road the restaurant opens up inside to an eclectic place with unique artwork and dark carpets. While inside is a wonderful experience the outside/ backyard portion is a garden oasis. The food has some strong appetizers and main course that consist of steak, ribs, chicken the special apps (bbq oysters straight from Humboldt Bay) and the coconut prawns were amazing ! The complimentary cheese, fruit and bread board is a nice touch to add a variety of flavors to the experience. Main courses are straight forward items steak(s), pork chop (which is amazing ) and the chicken dishes are spot on. Once again. Grab one of the specials when you can. They're spot on! Okay so, Larrupin Cafe is pretty much the only game in town for a nice meal BUT - they've got great game! We were staying in a nearby B&B and literally ate here 3 nights in a row. We sat inside twice and outside once - love the ambiance inside and out and we lucked out with live music. It was perfect and not too loud. The food was delicious and between my husband and myself, we tried pretty much everything. The NY strip and lamb chops were our faves. All of our servers and the hostesses were super nice. The ambiance was incredible, with great service (our waitress was so sweet and explained everything in great detail)- it truly was an amazing date night. We started with their appetizer board that comes with dinner, along with grilled oysters (they had them as a special) and the rosemary roasted garlic app. Everything was delicious and then our dinner came out which was perfect timing! My wife and I have eaten at the Larrupin cafe a couple times of year for about 6 years. The first three years were great. Food was delicious. You could definitely tell they had a wonderful chef. The flavors were amazing. I always order the same thing. The last time I was there was on 1-16-24. I ordered the Half and Half. That's half ribs half brisket. First of all I could not have a baked potato, it had to be their twice baked potato. This was only half a potato, very small. Then no bread, and the pesto plate couldn't even feed a small bird. The ribs dry, but the worst part was the brisket was cut thin like bacon. It was so tough I could hardly cut it with my steak knife. I feel the food has gone to far down hill. Sad to see. read more

This is the best restaurant on the north coast of California, hands down. One of only a few places in Humboldt that could be considered fine dining, Larrupin is the best, most consistent, and potentially cheapest of those options. The prices are not cheap but the portion sizes are generous, the complementary charcuterie board is spectacular (would cost $30+ somewhere else), and the wine list has a great price range; I often find meals here cost the same or less than the other nice restaurants. The ambiance is relaxed rather than stuffy. The outdoor patio seating is awesome when it is open. The menu is simple, but every dish I have tried has been the best it could possibly be. My favorites are the filet and the seasonal steelhead when they have it, either traditional or blackened. Couldn't recommend it enough! read more

I also love that salad is included too, BUT they serve it on the same plate as the hot food and it wilts all the greens and makes it very soggy. I really wish the salad is served on a separate plate so this doesn't happen. The filet mignon was perfect. Brisket and ribs were also cooked very well, but I did not care for the BBQ sauce that was used. Sadly they don't have any high chairs. We had to hold our baby throughout the whole meal. I wish they told me that when I made the reservation and warned them we're coming in with a baby... Nice seating out on the patio.
