I am at little confused to why locals rate this restaurant four stars, but personally I found the menu a bit confusing. Every item has a plus sign next to it, so you end up doing math while ordering. It almost feels like a way to make the prices seem more affordable than they actually are. That said, the customer service is top notch. Everyone was very personable and genuinely welcoming, which definitely stood out. As for the food, it wasn't my favorite due to a lack of flavor. However, it clearly works for the locals, so this may just come down to personal preference.

Really busy shop with friendly staff. We came on a weekday during lunch and there was a good amount of people around like 4 tables/orders besides us. We ordered the falafel burger and the kebab gyro. The pita was soft and my partner enjoyed the kebab. My falafel burger was perfect -- it wasn't overly spicy but had all the flavors of a good burger. Our only complaint is the fries, which were overcooked and as a result a little more on the drier side. The large portion of fries was very generous and probably better suited to 3 people rather than 2. Overall, we would come back. Lovely shop!

Walked in the doors AND IT SMELLED SO GOOD! This small restaurant is serving yummy food. Very busy at 5:30 this Monday (!) evening. My local son and I love GYROS. We received not exactly warm fluffy pita filled delights, but my son rated them "not bad to good". The gyro meat was really good! Which actually means we will be back because, people, this is Arcata! Thank you to the team behind this restaurant and keep doing the best that you can. Your local clientele is proof that you're doing the right thing. Kebab Cafe, if you can can improve the tatziki sauce and the Pita bread, it will help so much 5/19/25

Overall a decent place, nothing that is gonna wow you or anything but the beef was a bit on the tough side but what can you expect. The pita bread was great.

Healthy, mostly* fresh, tasty food. Order at the register & sit to be served or take away. Plenty of people came to pick up. Casual dining. *the dolma tasted like it came from a can but the rest tasted fresh, especially the warm pita.

Friendly staff. Good variety. Clean. Tastes great! Lots of locals come here for good eats. They make a trade off on whether to have the meat cooking all day on the vertical spit or keep the sliced meat in a warmer/rice cooker/crock pot. From the pot it was warm and moist.

As we were looking for food in the area. I asked friends on Facebook for recommendations and this place was highly spoken of. So glad we stopped in and got some goodies. My wife got a falafel and the atomic mushrooms. I got the gyros and 2 orders of the shrimp kebabs. Were originally from the Bay Area, San Francisco(Me) and Berkeley(wife) and everything we ate meet our stomachs needs. lol. Soooooo good and highly recommend. The food itself was okay, not the best Greek food I've had by far, but still decent. Pita was dry and not soft, but the gyro meat was flavorful enough and they gave us a good amount. The service was questionable; the workers were nice but mildly dismissive. My friends and I ordered 4 gyros and a dinner plate with kebab. The waitress asked if we wanted sauce on the side, so we said yes for all the gyros. When we received the food, half the gyros had no sauce at all, and half had tzaziki on the pita (we asked for red sauce as well). We came back to the restaurant after we noticed, which was around 30 mins later. After telling one of the workers our order, they said that the sauce should already be in the bag and did not say anything else. We were confused as to why the worker didn't seem to believe us and didn't want to give us the sauce we ordered. The worker who originally took our order eventually gave us a container of red sauce, but it still wasn't what we originally wanted. Overall, this place is a decent place to get Greek food in a small town. I would probably not come back here again though.

Staff was friendly, and food was prepared within reasonable time. Although it was closing time, my falafel sandwich had crisp and fresh vegetables. Slightly expensive (almost $10 including tip), but seems they use quality ingredients. read more

Filled with locals dining in and taking out, which looked like a good sign and it was. Very simple, small place in shopping center, but good choice for fresh, nicely seasoned and reasonably priced kabobs, sides and sandwiches. Both the vegetarians and meat-eaters in our group were pleased with their meals. Friendly service; you order at the counter and they bring it to your table. Good beer choices and try the chocolate baklava! read more

Based on the various reviews I thought I'd give this place a try. Bad mistake.....First I ordered the special rice and chicken kebab. The "special rice" was nothing more than heated up white rice with a sprinkling of wheat thrown in. The chicken kebab was extremely salty. I returned the meal to the counter and mentioned the above facts. I asked if they had anything "fresh". The wait person did not understand what I meant by "fresh". I asked is the shrimp fresh or frozen. The answer frozen. I then decided to order the mushroom kebab in a pita sandwich much better results. Don't go here with high expectations of having a great Mediterranean meal, you will be disappointed. Very minimal seating read more

I have loved this place for over a decade now, everything is just wonderful there, and there is never a lunch break where their gyros, filafel, or my personal favorite, kebabs are not welcome. The vast majority of the time, I order their selections without sauce, not because it's bad, but because I enjoy the flavors of the course itself so much. read more

This is a small charming place. The wait staff are pleasant and helpful. My daughters gyro was so full she had trouble eating it. I had a chicken and a steak kabob platter. Outstanding! The meat was tender juicy and cooked perfectly. The seasoning was wonderful. Even the sides were well dressed. Unexpected great experience. Wish I'd had room for authentic deserts :) read more

Driving through Arcata on 101 and looked for a great place to eat. So happy we found Kebab Cafe! It was exactly what we were hungry for. You certainly get your monies worth when you eat here. Our portions seemed large, the meats were tender and served with a bit of a twist. The people behind the counter were friendly and fun. There are several different choices of style for kebabs, more than I typically see and the Turkish influence was nice. I can easily recommend the Kebab Cafe. The place had a casual but definately friendly atmosphere. read more

one of the best little places to eat in humboldt! the staff is friendly and clean. the food is delicious. don't forget to have the baklava! it's the best i've ever had. if that's not up your alley, they also have fresh chocolate truffles or turkish delights! whatever you do, don't be turned off by the location...it's another wold inside! read more

Before I get into the food, I have to say that Kebab Cafe is the cleanest f-ing restaurant I've been to in Humboldt county. I wouldn't hesitate eating off the floor in that place. The food is simple, foreign, and absolutely delicious. The staff is amazing, and I have never known anyone to have less than an excellent meal here. read more

I'll spare you my bona fides on Mediterranean food and just say I'm a fan and I have a discerning palate. I've had the gyro here a few times and its actually pretty decent. Not mind blowing, but it hits the spot if you want some tasty tzatziki, vegi's and meat. The one mistake I made was getting a side of hummus and pita. I figured they must have some decent hummus on account of their being a Mediterranean restaurant. I was mistaken, it was bland and lacking any hint of tahini. Not sure I would call it hummus. So, avoid that, but the gyro is pretty good. read more

Kebab Cafe has the best food around. I read all the reviews and have to comment. The food is delicious, not frozen or from a can......and fresh, fresh, fresh! The prices are reasonable considering the quality of food you receive and the amount. If you want a two dollar burger, you better head to McDonalds! This is one of the better places, cleanliness and service, you will find in Humboldt County. If you haven't tried it, you are missing out. read more

The atmosphere has changed for the better since I came here a few years ago (It's a much less dark), but unfortunately so has my diet. I've been an ardent vegetarian for awhile now, but I used to love this place prior to my no-meat days. A gyro burger with white sauce and a Hansen's grape soda was a great combo-especially when you get it to go and can enjoy some of that rare sun. Recently I learned you could get a totally vegetarian falafel burger with my old-time favorite white sauce, so I rushed down to get myself one. Unfortunately my fond memories of the Kebab cafe didn't last the test of time. The food took forever to arrive despite being rather simple dishes (even a cup of coffee took awhile), but the clincher was when I finally got my "falafel burger:" It was FILLED with gyro meat! I didn't get an apology, the replacement took awhile to get back to me, and the food was really just so-so, as a previous poster mentioned. I'm not going back, but I think it'd be a place just fine for non-vegetarians, those not in a hurry or people expecting good service (our waitress seemed especially flaky). I'd advise getting something to go, for it's still rather dark inside the cafe and there's not much to see nearby but the Safeway and parking lots. read more

Yes, that really is a Dale Chihuly glass chandelier as you head up the stairs! Service is professional and understated. The servers know the food well and are present without being intrusive. I've been coming here for over 30 years and never had a bad server. Be sure to let them know if you're celebrating an event and they'll make your evening extra special. The food is always outstanding. The appetizer board included with your meal is such a treat of local small bites and hearty dark bread. Let your server know if you want the appetizer board to be vegetarian. Vegetarians and vegans have plenty of delicious entree options that go far beyond the usual 'pasta with vegetables' option such as the Spanakopita or the stuffed bell pepper over portobello mushroom. Meat eaters can enjoy the wide range of special barbecue options, the oysters, or fresh fish. Save room for one of their amazing desserts. We often have the Goat Cheese Coeur á la Crème which always feels decadent and light at the same time. The flourless chocolate cake is simply decadent (and not light) but oh-so-good. Larrupin Cafe is not inexpensive, but it offers great value since the service, ambiance, and food make it well worth the splurge.

This place will change your life. I used to sling Falafel in two separate establishments and people…read moredon't realize: there's a lot that can go wrong. Others have mentioned the small size of the falafel balls, but that's kinda the secret sauce here. The smallness makes it so you can have an extra crunchy outside, with a just done enough inside, that is still moist without feeling underdone. Any larger and you'd have a weird mix of crunchy on the outside tough on the outer half and not done at all in the center. If they were smaller, they'd be too tough through and through. I also feel compelled to mention the depth of flavor achieved by the babaganoush. This is magical. Now, I make my own baba at home, so I know how difficult it can be to get the balance right. This place has nailed it. The hummus is divine and bursting with flavor. The tahini is gorgeous. The flavors of the meats (I tried both the chicken and had an à la carte side of the lamb roll) -- they have managed to make them completely complex--you get the feeling that they slow cooked it all for hours...locking in juicy smokiness that will make you say mmmmm and fill yourself ridiculously full because you can't stop eating it. On a personal note, as an Ashkenzai Jew, who has been very unfortunately landlocked in the worst place for our people: Southern Idaho for 2.5 years, this place felt like a breath of fresh air. Don't let the fact that it is in a strip mall fool you. The staff were very attentive and ambiance was also nice. I believe they updated their dining room. We also got the tiramisu to go.

That was such a great experience that I stopped in again on a similar road trip in 2019. Fast forward to 2026. My husband and I were taking that same route and made sure that Arcata and Salt were on the itinerary. I was looking forward to the amazing risotto I'd had in the past! I was disappointed to discover that the location, the vibe, and the menu have all changed. That said, we still enjoyed our meal. I ordered the Market Salad. It was fresh and the dressing was light and delicious. It was large enough to share. Not realizing how large the salad would be, my husband also ordered the calamari as an appetizer. It was cooked perfectly with a light breading and it wasn't not greasy at all. For our main course, we split the Salsiccia pizza. It was the perfect size for us to share, especially given the appetizers we had. The amount of toppings were on the sparser side, but that just might be the nature of that pizza. Side note on the service: Our server was friendly enough but she was not very familiar with the menu. I asked if I could substitute the lettuce in the Market Salad for romaine and she didn't think that was possible. I explained I didn't want field greens and/or big leaves and she assured me those were not used in the salad. She said she thought it was iceberg and it was chopped very fine. With that, I ordered the salad. When it arrived, it was actually bibb lettuce that was left in relatively large pieces. At least it wasn't field greens! In their new location, they have a great patio. If I were a local, I think this could be a great place to hang out and enjoy their crafty cocktails. But since I'm not, I don't think I'll be back to Salt.

Great meal choices for everyone that was in our group. Located near the University, gets a good mix of young and older clientele. We sat in the back garden where there are a number of picnic style wooden tables, most with umbrellas for shade. The garden is decorated with lovely plants and flowers and makes the space that much more pleasant. Dogs are welcome here. Our drinks came put first and the food did not take too long to follow. I ordered a breakfast burrito which easily shared with another person. The particularly liked that the burrito was not soggy and maintained its structure while I ate it. Everything that came out to the table was very well put together and nicely presented. The dishes and cups used were also uniquely picked. I ordered a chai latte and it was perfect, not too spicy. Decent food - could be MUCH better, not really the authentic Mediterranean food I was hoping for. However, I was so impressed by the customer service that I wouldn't have the heart to rate any fewer than 3 stars. They really do try hard at what they do, I think - unfortunately, it just isn't enough. I mean, you come to a restaurant for the food... good customer service alone is not enough to make it (though bad customer service can break it). The food just is not impressive at all (last gyro burger I had was dry and surprisingly bland). But it is cheap and quick - and the people are good and hard-working, so I would never say "do not come here." Now, I wouldn't necessarily recommend this place either, but it wouldn't hurt to give them a chance if you haven't been here before. I come from a family of cooks and chefs, so I just have very little tolerance for food that isn't as good as it could or should be - and I know it COULD and should be a lot better. This is truly one of the best Kebab restaurants that I have eaten at. It is priced extremely well considering everything is custom made and made fresh everyday. The Falafel is absolutely excellent and is complimented with hummus. The portion sizes are very good. Im not sure why some of the previous comments say that the portion size is small. Unless you eat a TON of food, their portions are more then enough. The gyro with the tatziki and fresh vegetables are delicious.I read some mixed reviews but I have to say that you can see it is family owned and they are trying their best to please their customers and keep their food as consistent as possible. Would much rather eat here then at a big chain restaurant. Excellent job Kebab! read more

Don't let these crazy people talk you out of going, this food is hand prepared Dailey and none of it is canned or half assed. It's very good, the falafel is the best around.. And at 2 dollars per ball it makes sense, it's handmade everyday and it's very HARD to make. All sauces are handmade, the owner is super friendly and humble, Prices are made accordingly to the what it costs to buy, it's a business. This place is soo good I wish I didn't live an hour and a half away! I had the Mediterranean salad which was simple yet delicious. With the side of falafel balls and taziki, yuuum. The short haired Justin Beiber was not the nicest waiter to us. She was short and spacey and I did not like what I ordered and was basically told there was nothing they could do. My hubby liked the beef though on a good note. If the server was great we would have liked it more I am sure. read more

I LOVE, this place! Found it by accident and we'll drive from Cutten to eat dinner here! The food is excellent! My favorite is the gyro. I only wish the place were a little larger but I don't mind waiting for a table when the food rocks!! read more
