The restaurant is cozy and small inside, though it's not located in the best area of Eureka. The highlight of our meal was definitely the grilled oysters -- they were excellent. Unfortunately, the rest of the food didn't stand out, and the service was lacking despite there seeming to be plenty of staff working. Our biggest concern was the bathroom setup. To get to the restroom, guests have to walk directly through the kitchen area, and people waiting were also standing in the kitchen. It didn't feel very sanitary or well organized. Overall, we were disappointed and wouldn't return.

First of all, I just wanna start with that mushroom cobbler was a star of the night at our table of nine. We are still talking about it the day after. The apple tart tartin was like an apple pie with an extra dash of everything. It brought me back to Christmas in the 90s with my family. The fresh whipped cream was light and airy. Staff was exceptional. I don't think a single detail was missed. They had an alternate menu for kids and people looking for something simple. It looks like a cute little café on Italy. Clean bathroom. Definitely book a reservation or you're gonna be waiting a few hours. My dinner party was arguing if it was the best restaurant in Humboldt. I will definitely be back and be ordering takeout soon.

Brick & Fire Bistro is a small restaurant found in the heart of Eureka, CA. This little restaurant is a powerhouse when it comes to making hearty and Smokey foods while providing excellent service. I recommend reserving as there are very limited seats and they are busy. Every staff member was very nice and they were always checking in on my table. We started with a Brie dish that had fire melted Brie cheese wedges, toasted slices of bread, and asparagus. The brie was smooth and Smokey as I combined it with the toasted bread. I'm not much of a fan of asparagus, but I found myself going back for more. Don't forget to eat the rind of the Brie as well ;). For my drink I had the homemade ginger ale and it was very refreshing. They offer free homemade bread along with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. I'm a huge fan of olive oil and unfortunately most places don't have great olive oil, but this one hit the spot. They refilled our bread as well at our request. The bread was nice and soft while packed with a garlic flavor that wasn't overpowering. For my main dish, l ordered a medium rare Kobe Fettina Steak. The steak was cooked perfectly. It was so tender and juicy and paired very nicely with the sauce as it fell apart in my mouth. The salad was a nice little palate cleanser and fresh. The au gratin was a great way to wrap up the dish as the toasted layer of cheese brought the potatoes together with packed flavor. Overall, I have no complaints and I was extremely happy with my experience. Everything tasted fresh and homemade. My partner had the same reaction with her dish as well. We will definitely plan to come back sometime in the future.

My partner and I came here on a Sunday evening for date night. We have heard great things about Brick and Fire so we were excited to try! Great wine pairing recommendations, great music, cozy dark environment. The restaurant is small so a reservation would be best. For an appetizer we got the Margherita pizza which was so yummy. For entrees, I got the gnocchi dish and my partner got the steak. Perfect medium rare! Lastly, for dessert I had a strawberry black paper sorbet with crumbly lemon cookies. My partner had a dark chocolate crème brûlée. Of course it was delicious. Our server was also amazing, knowledgeable, and attentive, though we didn't catch his name. Will be recommending to everyone and be back again!

Quality/Quantity - Complimentary Bread - This was so good. Baked in house...? Anyways, I try to NOT eat too much bread to NOT spoil my meal, but I did ask for seconds... Polenta Lasagna - My wife said it was good. Not sure if I even got a bite to try? Local Albacore Tuna and Prawn Risotto - I am NOT usually a risotto person, but this sounded good. And it did not fail. The shrimp took a little effort to eat, but all the flavors and textures were spot on. And of course, I paired my dish with a sauvignon blanc. This is probably one of the nicer/fine dining restaurants in Eureka. Atmosphere - Very small location. Love their brick oven. Also appreciated the fire decor outside, see pictures. Indoor and 2 tables outdoor seating. Indoor table or bar seating. Open 6 days a week from 5pm to 8:30pm ish, closed Tuesdays. See picture. Due to the age of the building, the bathroom is past the kitchen. Felt like I was in SF... The bathroom was clean and organized. Oh, and they had extremely HOT water, see picture of the warning. Thank you. Street parking, not an issue. Service - Good. I did not make reservations (I recommend that you make reservations as this is a very small and popular business!), but we only had to wait approximately 10 minutes for a table. The wait staff was good, and the kitchen team was very accommodating. Price - $66 + tip. Owner Comments - Congrats on your success since 2010. If we come back to Eureka, we will be regular customers. But next time, we will make reservations.

We arrived during opening (as usual) on the 4th of July. I made sure we had reservations coming in Eureka. This was during the heatwave that NorCal was experiencing, so the open flames of the brick oven didn't ease our discomfort from the heat. But, this kiln did cook our food to perfection, so we beared the warmth emanating from it. The place was intimate. Probably not a restaurant for a large group. The Venetian furnishing & photos and the menu were certainly meant for dates and not a family with small kids dinner. We started our supper with glasses of vino. My wife had the moscato while I sipped through my red blend. The apps became my meal as I was pretty sure my wife won't be able to finish her's. The Roasted Local Oysters ($20 for 6) and Wagyu Carpaccio were really good. The baked mollusks were a delight as I could still taste the freshness of these Humboldt kumamotos as well as savor the garnishment. My wife picked her Tarragon Pecan Brie & Pesto Pizza and our son, opted for the B&F Italian Mac n Cheese. The main courses were excellent as well. The teen didn't want to share his plate but we snucked in a bite or two. We shared the Peach Shortcake Crisp for dessert. The filling and crumble were the highlights of this sweet treat. The place was literally packed 15 minutes from the 5pm opening and the crew, though busy with the other tables, were still attentive to us. Our server was even able to accommodate a photo request. Do try Brick & Fire (a Bistro) when in the Humboldt County for a great Mediterranean cuisine.

Wonderful in every way! Our server was very professional & friendly, someone you'd expect in a fine dining experience. The indoor space is small but comfortable and not too loud. We shared two appetizers and a pizza, taking half the pizza home. My taste buds were satisfied and I didn't over eat. Perfect! Reservations recommended.

We were served right away and the hostess was very nice and located at two top for us. The wait person was lovely and immediately accommodating. The menu was interesting and inviting. I had to laugh out loud as there is an item on the menu referencing Pee-wee's Playhouse from my childhood. I even asked if it was a Gen X restaurant and sure enough the chef is of my generation. I'm including a picture so IYKYK! The waitress had shared all of the specials, and I was intrigued by the flat iron steak option. It was a flat iron steak with marsala mushroom sauce, and mushroom risotto and asparagus. It was delightful! The meat was perfectly cooked and tender with a lot of beef flavor, offset by a rich marsala mushroom sauce. It was perfectly complimented by one of the top mushroom risotto I have had in my life. It was delectable. And the grilled asparagus side paired nicely with the beef and marsala sauce. It even had a little bit of lemon on the asparagus, which is my preference for it! Overall, this is probably in the top five of all of the restaurant meals I've had in my life. My husband had the mixed beef burger with fries. He said he really enjoyed the burger, and I did steal a tiny taste, and it was perfectly cooked and had a slight gameness that gave it some depth. My husband said that the bun was very nice as well. The fries were perfectly cooked. The burger was perfectly cooked and it wasn't over juicing nor dry. Overall, a really great burger! Funniest thing we noticed was that all of the chairs that were sitting on a cement floor had been given rubber caps for each of the legs so that when you moved the chair, it didn't make a horrible sound. Literally extra 10 points for that alone! I wish this location well and look forward to stopping in the next time we are in the area.

I found this restauraunt on Yelp and we reserved it for my birthday dinner on a Saturday night. We sat by the window and had a beautiful view of the sunset and bay. Upon being seated we were served some bread with some whipped butter mixed with some sort of seafood I believed? I forgot, but the butter was delicious. Our first round of bread however, was average at best and was very dense and doughy. The next rounds of bread were significantly better though, so maybe there's an inconsistency with the way they bake their bread in-house. I ordered the seafood penne pasta and my boyfriend ordered the king salmon with risotto. Both were "specials" and were not on the menu. However after digging into reviews here, it seems they are not so much specials since both dishes have been served here for the past 7ish years. Seafood penne pasta: I would rate a 3/5, maybe a 2.5/5. The pasta itself was not al dente which was disappointing. The "star" of this dish was supposed to be the scallop, which was severely undercooked! It was super soft and mushy. The shrimp was alright...some were overcooked. The salmon was also dry. I think the only thing I really enjoyed was the mussels, clams, and the sauce. The sauce had some curry with a small kick to it. This dish was just okay. Escargot: We ordered as our appetizer, I'd give it a 3.5/5! The escargot was a little soft but paired wonderfully with the bread. Creme brûlée: 3/5. Our waitress kindly put a birthday candle on it for my birthday. :) I enjoyed it, and it was very custardy! The downside was that the sugar on top was too burnt. I can't speak much for my boyfriend's dish, I did have a bite of his salmon and it was alright, maybe a bit too salty. The service however was wonderful and our waitress was super kind and helpful. Maybe I would come back to try another dish if I'm back in the area.

Unfortunately, the experience was incredibly disappointing. From the start, the person who helped us was rude and dismissive. I understand people have bad days, but her attitude was unacceptable. When I simply asked if they had cider, she laughed and caught an attitude. I requested a sample of a strawberry option they had on tap, and when I then asked to order that drink, she said, "I'm sorry, I can't possibly remember everyone's drink when I pour drinks all day." That comment was disrespectful and unnecessary. As a human being that works with the public, it's a no brainer to say that is not how you talk to people...perhaps something along the lines of "Remind me what that was again"....I could never imagine talking to people that way. The best part though, is that while charging us--despite saying she couldn't remember everyone's drink--she somehow remembered my husband's order just fine. The inconsistency and tone were frustrating and soured the entire visit. We only came to Eureka for this spot, and it turned into the worst birthday experience. I had hoped for a fun, friendly celebration, but the service made it anything but. I won't be returning, and I can't recommend this location based on how we were treated.
