The tables weren't too crowded together, though there was not an abundance of space. There is also outside seating! The staff: The employees were quite kind and helpful! The food: One of the people in my party ordered linguini with clams and the clams were so overcooked, they were tough to chew. Another person in my group had very overcooked steak. Besides that, all the other food was very good and surpassed expectations! I ordered the fettuccine Alfredo and crème brûlée and those dishes were both a delight! We have been trying seafood up and down the coast this weekend on our girls trip and this place wins hands down. The halibut was light and flaky and delicious! Stopped by here with my parents during a coastal trip. This ended up being one of my parents' favorite meals of the trip. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. Unfortunately it had drizzled so we stayed indoors but the outdoor seating was great, overlooking the water. We were here kind of at a dead time so there wasn't many customers. Had really great seafood options. Loved the cioppino. It was better than what we had up in Portland that cost waaay more. Service was also great. Went in for dinner Friday night w a $100 gift card. Jacks has been somewhat blah in recent years but thought we'd give it another go since we had the gift card. Steelhead was good though the veggie side of broccoli was luke warm. Clam chowder had its moments but overall nothing to write home about. Drinks were good but slow to be served. Go to pay for dinner w gift card and told it's too old, it's from last year. There's no expiration or use by date on the card I point out. They come back and tell me their records for older gift cards like this are not kept at the restaurant but on the computer at the owner's home. Server asks us to pay in cash or w CC and owner will check computer at her house when she gets home to see if gift card is good and call us and reimburse us if so. Seems pretty ridiculous to me so I tell them no, we have a gift card that's been paid for. They say hold on, take the gift card, supposedly go and check it on computer at the restaurant after saying they could only check it at the owner's computer at home minutes before, and come back and say it has $0 value. Bitter experience, poor customer service. Put an expiration date on your gift card if that's your policy. Bit of a bummer for a Friday night out. read more

I dined at Jack's on June 21 at 7:45pm. I am a retired career food and wine industry professional. I noted before entering that the kitchen closed at 8:30pm, so I ordered quickly. Initially the service was prompt and steady as I enjoyed my meal. But then for some inexplicable reason (other than that she was obviously in a hurry to close down the bar area where I was seated) my nearby waitress asked if I was, "planning on saving room for dessert" ; as I am right in the middle of a mouthfull of my dinner entree! I motioned w/o speaking that she give me a minute to finish my bite, after which I asked if I could give her a service recommendation, and then once finished with my bite, I suggested that she NOT ask a dinner guest if they are, "planning on saving room for dessert" when they are STILL IN THE MIDDLE OF EATING THEIR ENTREE much less when they are in the middle of a mouthfull of food. She insited she wasn't trying to rush me. You be the judge. Needless to say, I did NOT stick around for dessert. I did ask myself, "who is training this waitstaff? But wait there's more...meanwhile the host/server who had in fact just sat a nearby table for 2 for dinner just before 8:30pm, leaned in front of me right as I was giving my suggestion to my waitress and tried to take my plate away; to which I respectfully intervened and asked him to "please not take my plate, I'm not done eating yet", and he put it down. A comedy of errors that could be laughable, but also perhaps why this restaurant gets lukewarm reviews from many yelp customers. I've trained hundreds and hundreds of wait staff. One thing I ALWAYS emphasize. Maintain the quality of service throughout the entire evening, meaning that the last customer gets treated as professionally and curtiously as the first. They were much more focused on closing up shop and heading home, than maintaining quality of service. I would not eat here again nor would I recommend Jack's, but if you do go, go early, lest you have the same experience I did. read more

We came here as my sister in law (SIL) recommended this place was decent and we were feeling seafood. We came for graduation and Mother's day weekend. It took a few minutes to get seated as there was one hostess and 2 servers. Which is somewhat shocking as theres 12 seating areas (some booths seating 4, others combined to seat 6) inside and around 12 seating areas outside as well. It looked like they were understaffed with the onflow of patrons coming in. I chatted with a lady while waiting to get seated and she also was waiting just to sign her check, so it looks like the restaurant was plenty busy. She told me they're not usually this busy but the food was good, which got me looking forward to our meal. We were ready to order after looking over the menu for 10 minutes. However took a while for a waitress to come over to us. We asked the hostess if she could let the waitress know we were ready to order, but it seems the one she asked said that we weren't her table to go to. When we noticed several groups getting their orders after us, we ended up finally flagging someone else after another 20 minutes. She mentioned she wasn't our waitress in but she could take out order. When ordering with her, we asked a question to see how filling the spicy seafood bowl (listed off their specials) would be as our group liked to share and try things. She told us it would be enough to feed one person, which we found hard to believe as it involved 1 lb of dungeness crab legs, 1 lb of pacific blue mussels, 1/2 lb of jumbo shrimp, gold potatoes, and corn on the cob bathed in butter, garlic, anise, ginger, and cajun spices. The food was alright. Their mac and cheese was as good as my SIL claimed. The spicy seafood bowl was not bad, and matched the mild taste. We were too deterred to order anything else. I tried to give the restaurant the benefit of the doubt that they were just busy, and perhaps it was a mix up with who should be serving us. But maybe it might have been because we were the only non-Caucasians in the restaurant. We never got clarification on who our waitress was supposed to be, but at least got our food. We never got asked how the food was. Amusingly enough, I noticed all the other tables got asked how the food was, and our table seemed to be avoided like the plague. We were seated in the corner, so would be hard to miss us. There was a parking lot for parking, but there was also a group of homeless outside nearby the front. For the bathroom, you would need to get a code from the waitresses in order to use it.
