I dove into the clam chowder so fast, I almost forgot to take a picture.

This place has had a complete Renaissance. When I was in high school in the 70s, you would see in the police blotter in the local paper all the time, three words. "Vista Del Mar." It has also had a few unsavory nicknames that I could not repeat here. Over the years, it's changed owners and names a few times. The current owners took it over in 2016, and it's wonderful now. Just a nice neighborhood restaurant/bar. I decided to do an order of the shrimp and chips each for my dad and I, as well as 2 cups of the clam chowder. Everything was very good. The fries were tender, with a good flavor, and they were very generous with the shrimp. They were not over breaded or greasy. They came with an absolutely delicious cocktail sauce. The clam chowder was rich with lots of clams, the only thing I could possibly say, was that I thought the veggies in the clam chowder were a little bit al dente for my personal taste. But I know everybody is different. Prices are a bit on the higher end, but for what you get, definitely worth it. I will be back again. Thank you!

Car tacos! (Firecracker Fish tacos)

Holy Toledo. I came here with my family on the recommendation of a friend, who said they have the best fish tacos. And since I have kiddos, and it's a bar, we got the tacos to go, and had them in the car, overlooking the water! Wowie was she right! We all loved them! They were spicy, but in the best way possible! I only ran in to get the food and pay, but it was clean and spacious inside, and nice and neat outside. Plus their service was snappy and friendly! So we'll be back if we have the opportunity! Kuddos to the kitchen!

Every time I come up to Eureka, I have to come and eat at the spot. I'd love to try different items on their menu, but I get the same thing every time the firecracker fish tacos amazing. I wish I could take some home. The bartender was super friendly and the kitchen staff was prompt and amazing. I tipped out the kitchen and then the bartender. Worth every penny.

Stopped in for fish and chips and was really impressed. The fish was crispy, and fresh, and the portion size was perfect. French fries were big, ample, and cooked well! Served with a lemon sauce and tartar sauce. Only thing it could have used was salt! Service was quick and friendly -- everyone was welcoming and on top of things. A great spot for a fast, delicious meal. I'd definitely come back.

A great little hole in the wall bar that had a community feeling. Located on the edge of town in a warehouse district, the outside of this bar is unappealing and we almost didn't go in. But once we did, we knew this was the place in town to get some good brews and food. Loved our meal. Loved watching all of the other customers young and old coming in. Servers were friendly and attentive. Ambiance as hole in the wall but clean. Toilets were clean. Would definitely go again.

Some of the better food in Eureka in my opinion! I got the fish and chips and my husband got the shrimp poboy and we were both very satisfied in our meals! The workers were very sweet and the ambiance was cool with the tvs and music! Would come next time and grab a few beers!

This place is hard to find. If we drove fast, we would missed it completely. There's only one server and one bar tender. So service was quite slow. We ordered Carnitas Tacos, a bowl of clam chowder and a Cobb Salad. Overall the food were average. The decor is a typical bar.

I love the firecracker shrimp tacos they're all I get!! They're breaded with coconut flakes and almonds. The pico de gallo that comes on them is LOVELY. It has grapes and chilies and it's sweet N savory. It's so good!

Tried this place two nights in a row, every dish was delicious, especially the firecracker fish taco. The smoked brisket burger had a pile of juicy meat, the vista burger's flame grilled flavor was right to the point. Chef salad was super fresh. Highly recommend this gem place in Eureka.

The staff was friendly and knowledgeable... fairly broad menu with something for everyone. We were just passing through town and looking for a solid lunch. I had what they called the stuffed avocado... which was really good, but I wouldn't really consider it a stuffed avocado - more of a salad with sliced avocado. My friend had clam strips - also really good (I sampled a few purely for review purposes). I also had some soup... spicy shrimp bisque. It was good! I think I'm going to try the clam chowder next time I get a chance... I originally planned to get clam chowder, but the bisque sounded interesting so I went with that instead. One downer... and I'm not sure if it was a "one off" type thing or what... but a portion of the crust on the bread I got with my soup was 'crunchy'. I'm not sure why? It didn't seem to be stale, but something was off... not sure if it sat in a warmer too long or what, but it didn't seem right. Kudos overall... good experience.

I found this restauraunt on Yelp and we reserved it for my birthday dinner on a Saturday night. We sat by the window and had a beautiful view of the sunset and bay. Upon being seated we were served some bread with some whipped butter mixed with some sort of seafood I believed? I forgot, but the butter was delicious. Our first round of bread however, was average at best and was very dense and doughy. The next rounds of bread were significantly better though, so maybe there's an inconsistency with the way they bake their bread in-house. I ordered the seafood penne pasta and my boyfriend ordered the king salmon with risotto. Both were "specials" and were not on the menu. However after digging into reviews here, it seems they are not so much specials since both dishes have been served here for the past 7ish years. Seafood penne pasta: I would rate a 3/5, maybe a 2.5/5. The pasta itself was not al dente which was disappointing. The "star" of this dish was supposed to be the scallop, which was severely undercooked! It was super soft and mushy. The shrimp was alright...some were overcooked. The salmon was also dry. I think the only thing I really enjoyed was the mussels, clams, and the sauce. The sauce had some curry with a small kick to it. This dish was just okay. Escargot: We ordered as our appetizer, I'd give it a 3.5/5! The escargot was a little soft but paired wonderfully with the bread. Creme brûlée: 3/5. Our waitress kindly put a birthday candle on it for my birthday. :) I enjoyed it, and it was very custardy! The downside was that the sugar on top was too burnt. I can't speak much for my boyfriend's dish, I did have a bite of his salmon and it was alright, maybe a bit too salty. The service however was wonderful and our waitress was super kind and helpful. Maybe I would come back to try another dish if I'm back in the area.

That was such a great experience that I stopped in again on a similar road trip in 2019. Fast forward to 2026. My husband and I were taking that same route and made sure that Arcata and Salt were on the itinerary. I was looking forward to the amazing risotto I'd had in the past! I was disappointed to discover that the location, the vibe, and the menu have all changed. That said, we still enjoyed our meal. I ordered the Market Salad. It was fresh and the dressing was light and delicious. It was large enough to share. Not realizing how large the salad would be, my husband also ordered the calamari as an appetizer. It was cooked perfectly with a light breading and it wasn't not greasy at all. For our main course, we split the Salsiccia pizza. It was the perfect size for us to share, especially given the appetizers we had. The amount of toppings were on the sparser side, but that just might be the nature of that pizza. Side note on the service: Our server was friendly enough but she was not very familiar with the menu. I asked if I could substitute the lettuce in the Market Salad for romaine and she didn't think that was possible. I explained I didn't want field greens and/or big leaves and she assured me those were not used in the salad. She said she thought it was iceberg and it was chopped very fine. With that, I ordered the salad. When it arrived, it was actually bibb lettuce that was left in relatively large pieces. At least it wasn't field greens! In their new location, they have a great patio. If I were a local, I think this could be a great place to hang out and enjoy their crafty cocktails. But since I'm not, I don't think I'll be back to Salt.

The place was pretty busy at 8pm and we sat outside since we had our pup with us.
