We loved the food so much we came twice during our trip to Humboldt. The decor is nice and charming, with wooden chairs and tables and surfing pictures that give a beach state vibe. There's also a PacMan arcade machine to use while you wait for your order. The cashier was super nice and helped with recommendations, so we ended up with the kalua fries, garlic chicken, and fish and chips. The portions were so huge that I kind of got sick of the fries because I had it in the fish and chips AND kalua fries (even though they were all delicious). (Not complaining, just warning to not double up on fries unless you can eat an unlimited amount.) The sauce paired well with the fish and chips, and although the lettuce bed was probably mainly for presentation, I still appreciated it and ate it. The second time we got the furikake fries, garlic chicken, and spicy garlic chicken. Honestly, the spicy garlic chicken wasn't spicy to me at all; I think they're trying to cater to the local palate, but I would still recommend it because it was still verrry flavorful! The chicken was garlicky and crispy while still remaining juicy. However, we preferred the furikake fries over the kalua because the former was lighter while the latter was like an actual meal. My bf also tried the redwood beer they have. I usually HATE beer but I actually had a couple sips of this one for once. It's so fragrant and fruity, you can actually smell the fruitiness and even taste it for a second before the beer taste hits. I would definitely recommend trying this, especially because I've never had a beer that was so fruity, floral, and fragrant that I actually liked it. We would def come back and recommend to others, whether you are a local or tourist. There was a constant stream of people coming in and out of this cozy little joint, so you know it is THE spot. Really good plate lunch place in Eureka! Tried 3 plate lunches. All came with rice, Mac salad and cabbage. Mac salad was ok, pretty light on flavor, but creamy. Portions were great for the price. You can easily make 2 meals out of a single entree for around $17. Garlic Chicken: Very nice garlic flavor which is subtle but noticeable. Chicken had a good crunch. Dynamite Chicken: Same garlic chicken but with a spicy sauce. Personally, not my favorite since the sauce washes out the garlic flavor. Shoyu Chicken: Pulled chicken with a nice shoyu flavor which was not too sweet. Seating area was large and it has a swing area for taking photos. Staff was friendly and food came out fast. Boy have I been eating so unhealthy on this trip, but you know that because you are following. Is that part of the reason I am having so much fun? This did not disappoint. I did not think it was very spicy, but my daughter said it was too spicy for her. Good thing she ordered the mild version of garlic chicken; see below. Decent portions. Garlic Chicken - A more mild version of the above. But with rice and mac rather than fries. A slightly healthier version. Ahi Poke Bowl - My wife's choice. Generous portions, especially the tuna; thank you. Because this is raw, we "forced" ourselves to finish this dish first. So good. And to wash it down, supporting local, Sticky Finger IPA. Ambiance - Small local business. The food truck was parked in the rear of the building. Due to the rain, I did not take pictures. Plenty of mall parking. Cute spot in Eureka and was pleasantly surprised to find a Hawaiian food option. Seemed well liked and had plenty of people during lunch on a Friday. I decided to order again. They don't do online ordering, so I called in, and they told me to show up to the drive-through window in about a half hour. So I did. I ordered the Kalua pig nachos. I asked them to leave off the jalapeños, which they did For a small extra charge, I asked them to put a sunny side up egg on top. I show up, and my food is waiting for me at the drive-through window. I take it home, and I open up the container, and I was kind of disappointed. First of all, I asked for a sunny side up egg, yet the yolk was still hard. I love the yolk to drip down into the food, and there was none of that here. How do you screw up a sunny side up egg? Secondly, the food was only lukewarm. Since the egg didn't matter anymore, I just reheated it in the microwave, and it came out fine. The pork was tender and delicious, the ingredients played well with each other, and I really liked the mango salsa. It had just a tiny bit of a "kick" to it. Just enough that I noticed. The one thing I didn't care for, were the wonton chips. They were pretty oily. I would pick them up, and I could just see the oil on my fingers. I could taste it on the chips as well. Went tonight. Something just seemed off. The cashier was nice. The dining area was a bit wrecked. We go often. When the owner isn't on site it's a weird vibe and the quality definitely goes down. My food was cold. I sent it back. This was the second time I've sent cold food back to the kitchen. We also ordered loco moco unusually meh not delicious.. I know this place serves quality not tonight tho. There is a lot of turn over and they are hiring. Not a great sign. Sorry, second not great experience. It's too bad. There was a mix up in communication for my take out order and I ended up waiting 25 minutes. They gave me some Mac salad to munch on while they made my fish and chips on the fly. The dynamite chicken is our favorite, as well as the Nachos. The pineapple salsa is to die for!
