We were visiting from the Bay Area and decided to give it a shot based on a local's recommendation. Total gem. We tried their special, the new style - hamachi sashimi was absolutely by far their best dish. The sashimi was buttery, clean, and just melts in your mouth. But everything tasted good. Everyone was friendly and relaxed, just had an awesome vibes. Service was quick but really enjoyable. And the ambiance was pretty cozy, clean, and welcoming. Felt like a spot locals love, but newcomers feel comfortable in right away. If we are ever in the area, we will be stopping again. A nice little gem right on the 101 in town. Don't let the looks of the exterior building fool you! We thought it was closed and empty but when you go to the back you'll find a wonderful covered outdoor dining area with amazing food, drinks, apps, and seafood. Sushi Spot in Arcata has been our Humboldt County go-to for sushi for a couple decades now so we were pleased when we heard they were taking over the old Hana Sushi location in North Eureka. We went last night and sat outside in the now covered and refurbished dining area with heaters which were necessary on this chilly April evening. The menu is the same and the quality was excellent and in fact maybe even a bit better than Arcata(?). At any rate, we were very happy with the meal and pleased we could take our small dog along with us. We highly recommend Sushi Spot for your sushi fix. read more

I would not go back to sushi spot. Not because their fish was not fresh. Not that their attempt to deep fry a spicey tuna roll was a complete failure. But because their rice was horrible. The sushi rice was gritty and ill cooked. If a sushi restaurant can't cook rice, then that is a "no return". The server was a delight. read more

Wow. I was so excited to finally try Sushi Spot after hearing about the Arcata location for so long. We ordered to go. First of all, we got our bag home and found the edamame was missing, but we were charged for it. Next, the rolls were so tiny that we thought we got the wrong order. The rolls were half the size of Bay front. Not kidding. We thought they made a mistake and didn't even recognize the rainbow roll as being a rainbow roll since it was so narrow in diameter and short in length in comparison to what we're used to. Flavors were meh - nothing to get excited about. We ordered 4 rolls total for an assorted trial of this place. We're glad we tried it. Now we can go back to Bay Front or Kome in Fortuna without feeling like we might be missing something locally. read more

WE WERE REALLY IMPRESSED by the food, the service, and the ambiance. They have a small army of very motivated service people -- they add an 18% tip, but they EARN it. The dumplings were covered with an exquisite sauce; the pork appetizer (char-su?) was awesome. We had three rolls and a bento box, and everything was awesome. We sat inside, but they had some charming and romantic spaces outside. Kids are welcome, and a cute service dog showed up for take-out (they add 10% gratuity for take-out too). The Eureka Sushi Spot has delicious sushi and Japanese curry. Their outdoor patio and eating area is amazing, and perfect for outdoor eating when the weather is nice! They just opened and are figuring things out, hence the four starts. I expect them to rise to five after a few things are worked out. This food was phenomenal, but it took over an hour. It would be amazing if they were open during lunch hours like the Arcata location. We devoured the curry before a picture was taken, it was so delicious! Menu is great, food is usually great but it does have its off days with very loosely rolled rolls. I don't know why they aren't open for lunch on Saturdays. Went to day and there were three tables waiting when they opened. Three waitresses seem really flustered and instead of sitting tables kept working on side work and redirecting people to different spaces. We were a table of two so it should of been fairly easy. We ended up waiting inside for 15 minutes, with all other patrons sat outside. When we asked if we could be seated we got told they were really busy because they just opened. From the wasabi (weak enough for my two year old to chow it down), the the drink order NEVER being fulfilled (we were there for 2 hours!), the cold food that was supposed to be hot and the hot food that was supposed to be cold, the zero checking in by our server, the lack of any type of restaurant or customer awareness by the staff (is there a restaurant manager?) and the two hour wait for food (that was never fully served, literally food missing for two hours!) it all finally prompted us to just close our bill and leave because it was too many things that sucked to even have the patience or tolerance to sit around any longer...The service and food has been total poop since they opened and to be honest we lowered our standards because this new Sushi Spot is so close to our home we really really really wanted it work out. 6 months ago it was horrid and today it was too...take your sweet buns and hard earned cash to the one in Arcata, you'll leave with some satisfaction. read more

We waited about 35 minutes for a table and got seated outside, it was a super cold night, fortunately the waitress moved us to an indoor table that just cleared up. decent service. weird sushi. i wouldn't call this authentic japanese- it's definitely fusion. who puts mustard on sushi? the smoked albacore was so dense, our server even compared it to canned tuna. the chili sauce had a barbecue type flavor and overpowered the entire roll. will not be coming back, and do not reccomend. read more
