Next we had edamame which again was cold and barely salted. To finish off the night we had rotten, slimy, and chunky tuna. With salmon rolls that were made so sloppy one of them was missing a piece of food and that had looked like food from last week. Amazing! Sushi was fantastic, they had an enormous amount of options to pick from, and pricing was good relative to a lot of other places for sushi. We found this hole in the wall sushi restaurant which has some of the best sushi I've ever had, and I eat lots from all over the world! I'm gonna be honest, this place is alright for the location with not a lot of people living around here. The miso soup was alright, the edamame was kinda cold and poor. The main issue is the raw fish. My salmon rolls came out looking brown. And the tuna looked old, extremely fatty, and slimy. I also had eel and the fish kinda tasted old and had been sitting for a while. The service took a little bit to get our order placed. And the ambiance felt more American than Japanese. I hate leaving bad reviews, and this one hurts because it's the only place I'll eat sushi from in Humboldt. Unfortunately this is the third or fourth bad experience with this place and i won't be back. First time I found a hair in my to go order, called and let them know, they asked me to come in to get a new one. I live 20 minutes away and I had a flight to catch so I didn't bother nor did I bother asking for a refund. Second time I get home with my to go order to find they forgot the 2 main toppings that go on my roll, eel sauce and caviar. In my opinion the eel sauce is what makes the dish. I let it go. And now for a third time, I pick up two rolls ($30 + tip), get home, just to find the same things forgotten. I specifically requested no wasabi, extra ginger like I do every single time and 9/10 times they fail to do it. It gets to a point where it's just ridiculous. The rolls have 4-5 ingredients, how can they mess it up over and over again. They refuse to refund, their solution is come back and get a remake. I don't want to get back in the car, drive 20 minutes to the next town over to get a remake of food I've been waiting for the past hour to eat. Really sad to see good restaurants in Humboldt go downhill in quality, especially while their prices continue to go up. read more

Super tasty off the beaten path sushi place in Arcata. It's a mom n pop shop atmosphere but the food is fine dining style. We both got a roll with salmon in it, can't remember the names but they were both delicious. The Miso soup, tempura veggies and edamame are all bomb too. Made a mistake of ordering three sakis, they came in a nice size bottle with more than enough for the three of us. Portions are generous and the food is fresh. I am a huge fan of salmon and this roll tasted fantastic with their house special sauce. Speaking of House special, I don't usually go for cooked sushi rolls, but the house special roll caught my eye. Combining hamachi, tempura tuna, and salmon in a roll sounds just about as good as it tastes. It was drizzled with the house special sauce as well. I really wish I knew what the house sauce was! My partner and I were visiting from out of town and really wanted sushi, so we gave this spot a shot since options were limited on a Sunday night. We were sat right away (at a table in the very back of the restaurant) but then forgotten for probably over 20mins. When our waitress finally noticed we hadn't been helped yet, she finally took our order. After another long wait- we saw people around us (who had gotten there after us) getting their food. The waitress checked on the table next to us to ask how they were enjoying their food and was about to ask us the same, till she noticed that we hadn't gotten anything we ordered yet. After being at the restaurant for close to 40-50 mins, we FINALLY got our food... and it was very underwhelming. Our rolls looked pretty sloppy and like they were made in a rush. The Ghost roll (we should've known) is an empty rice roll (also no description). Which we laughed at, of course. The avacado roll only had two slices of avacado in it which was disappointing. The asparagus roll also only had one asparagus in it! It was hard to get a full source of nutrients from the meal that we ordered. The atmosphere was cozy and quaint (albeit a bit quiet), and the waitress was kind and attentive. We were seated immediately and our food arrived within 10 minutes. My sushi roll was delicious, and the teriyaki chicken was well seasoned.
