DO NOT come to this restaurant unless you want rotten sushi. We first were given our lukewarm miso soup that contained approximately 2 pea sized pieces of tofu. Next we had edamame which again was cold and barely salted. To finish off the night we had rotten, slimy, and chunky tuna. With salmon rolls that were made so sloppy one of them was missing a piece of food and that had looked like food from last week. Service I give 1/10 because we were refunded even though the worker barely understood English. Ambience 0/10 It felt like we walked into a cheaply made tourist trap. read more

I'm gonna be honest, this place is alright for the location with not a lot of people living around here. The miso soup was alright, the edamame was kinda cold and poor. The main issue is the raw fish. My salmon rolls came out looking brown. And the tuna looked old, extremely fatty, and slimy. I also had eel and the fish kinda tasted old and had been sitting for a while. The service took a little bit to get our order placed. And the ambiance felt more American than Japanese. This is the best sushi we've had in this area, and we've tried quite a few places. Everything was really well priced, it was nice and quiet with nice lighting. The service was one of the best parts, the workers were friendly and quick and the fish was super fresh and buttery. Husband and I went on a weekend trip to Eureka and craved sushi. We found this hole in the wall sushi restaurant which has some of the best sushi I've ever had, and I eat lots from all over the world! I hate leaving bad reviews, and this one hurts because it's the only place I'll eat sushi from in Humboldt. Unfortunately this is the third or fourth bad experience with this place and i won't be back. First time I found a hair in my to go order, called and let them know, they asked me to come in to get a new one. I live 20 minutes away and I had a flight to catch so I didn't bother nor did I bother asking for a refund. Second time I get home with my to go order to find they forgot the 2 main toppings that go on my roll, eel sauce and caviar. In my opinion the eel sauce is what makes the dish. I let it go. And now for a third time, I pick up two rolls ($30 + tip), get home, just to find the same things forgotten. I specifically requested no wasabi, extra ginger like I do every single time and 9/10 times they fail to do it. It gets to a point where it's just ridiculous. The rolls have 4-5 ingredients, how can they mess it up over and over again. They refuse to refund, their solution is come back and get a remake. I don't want to get back in the car, drive 20 minutes to the next town over to get a remake of food I've been waiting for the past hour to eat. Really sad to see good restaurants in Humboldt go downhill in quality, especially while their prices continue to go up. read more

The fish looked dry, lacking that fresh sheen. The rice was also dry and maybe undercooked? Or like it'd been sitting in the rice cooker all day. The assorted tempura was delicious. Not huge on leaving bad reviews, but this was truly an awful experience. My partner and I were visiting from out of town and really wanted sushi, so we gave this spot a shot since options were limited on a Sunday night. After being at the restaurant for close to 40-50 mins, we FINALLY got our food... and it was very underwhelming. Our rolls looked pretty sloppy and like they were made in a rush. Super tasty off the beaten path sushi place in Arcata. It's a mom n pop shop atmosphere but the food is fine dining style. We both got a roll with salmon in it, can't remember the names but they were both delicious. The Miso soup, tempura veggies and edamame are all bomb too. Made a mistake of ordering three sakis, they came in a nice size bottle with more than enough for the three of us. Portions are generous and the food is fresh. My husband and I were very satisfied with this sushi. We ordered 7 rolls for $88, on a Monday night, that was a 45 minute wait for take out. The restaurant is clean and they follow covid protocols. We got a variety of rolls. I loved the spider roll, the soft shell crab deep fried in tempura is great.. it is usually a favorite of mine. The dynamite roll was terrific as well.. I am a huge fan of salmon and this roll tasted fantastic with their house special sauce. Speaking of House special, I don't usually go for cooked sushi rolls, but the house special roll caught my eye. Combining hamachi, tempura tuna, and salmon in a roll sounds just about as good as it tastes. It was drizzled with the house special sauce as well. I really wish I knew what the house sauce was! So saddd! We had miso soup with four pieces of tofu. We also ordered a spicy tuna handroll with maybe a teaspoon of spicy tuna. The Ghost roll (we should've known) is an empty rice roll (also no description). Which we laughed at, of course. The avacado roll only had two slices of avacado in it which was disappointing. The asparagus roll also only had one asparagus in it! It was hard to get a full source of nutrients from the meal that we ordered. After a long road trip from Southern California, my partner and I settled on this delightful gem for dinner. The atmosphere was cozy and quaint (albeit a bit quiet), and the waitress was kind and attentive. We were seated immediately and our food arrived within 10 minutes. My sushi roll was delicious, and the teriyaki chicken was well seasoned. The California roll that came with my chicken was also exceptional, and the imitation crab meat almost tasted like the real thing! And my partner wouldn't stop talking about his 49er roll.
