OMG. Royal Glazed Chicken and Fried Rice and the Szechuan chicken is the absolute best for the price.

I've been ordering from here for quite some time now and today was the first time that I'm surprised and a bit disappointed. They were doing a promotion to where you buy any chow mein and you get free fried rice. sounds like a pretty sweet deal so I ordered. once I got the food, sat down and started to eat, the first bit on the fried rice threw me off because it was bland, like no flavor or salt in it or soy sauce. It has everything else like the meat, vegetables and eggs but it was tasteless T^T. I still like this restaurant cause it's pretty close to my work and this food was suppose to lighten up my crappy day, having to eat good and tasty food but now it's even more crappy. I just hope that this doesn't happen again next time please. will update if things gets better. read more

Lunch review: $10.00 lunch special. Sesame chicken, hot and sour soup. Sesame chicken had very thick breading that was under cooked and mushy. Flavor was good. Vegetarian fried rice had good flavor. Egg roll was fresh and hot. The hot and sour soup was luke warm. Overall just average at best. Food needs to be served warmer. Tasted like food from a Chinese Buffet that had been sitting in a warming dish. The restaurant was clean. Service was good. Was it worth $10.00, maybe. Will I return? Probably not. read more

Do not trust this place -- I got horrific food poisoning from eating there! I called them the next day to let them know, and they said they would refund my order and that a manager would call me back. The manager never got back to me, despite my calling several times. And while they did give me a partial refund of the least expensive item on my bill, they never did give me the full refund I was promised, which is especially frustrating considering I was out money for both the meal AND loss of income for a day's work when I had food poisoning. We've eaten here twice in the last few months. Both times the food was excellent! Delivery was super fast. The family special that comes with four drinks is a good deal and is a ton of food. We usually put two of the drinks in the freezer and then enjoy them later. I've also had the green curry and it was delicious. read more

They have drop so many meals from the lunch men u. The selections are very limited. They have also reduced the serving size. I ordered hot and sour soup and I basically got broth with very minimal ingredients. The service has really gotten bad. Our food is taking long to come out and then it's cold. Usually not too bad but tonight my broccoli beef wasn't good at all.... OVERCOOKED broccoli and the beef tasted weird. Kinda bummed.

My partner and I have eaten here many times and it's always been really good. Tonight we got our food delivered. We got the hunan family special. We chose 2 chow mein, broccoli beef, orange chicken, and kung pao chicken. Our favorite has always been the broccoli beef and chow mein. All of our chicken was dry and bland. Few pieces of protein and mostly chunky veggies also with little flavor. The orange chicken tasted faintly of honey and lemon but definitely not orange chicken. The only saving grace is the chow mein which was good. Besides that, everything was dry and bland. I paid $60 before tip and after taxes so I was really expecting our usual yummy experience ): will not be ordering again unfortunately. read more

My favorite Chinese food place in Humboldt! I've tried a bunch of different meals here and this place is a take-out staple for me now. The chow mein is AMAZING- it's flavorful, full of yummy veggies, and not mushy like other places. I also really like their sesame chicken!! It's crispy on the outside and is even good for leftovers (which we always seem to have because the portion sizes are big). Hunan Eureka is reliable, fast, convenient, and consistent. Oh- and their lemonades with boba are delicious! :) All in all, I highly recommend Hunan Eureka to anyone looking for diverse options for Chinese food. read more

We had never eaten here but our family tradition is Chinese for Christmas Eve so we tried takeout from Hunan for that option this year. It will be our last. We called ahead and confirmed their hours as well as my husband asking if rice came with the meals, as the website didn't specify. We were told "No" that we would have to order rice separately. We made our order for two large rice sides as well as Walnut Prawns and Orange Chicken. The shrimp was so shrimpy- barely anything in a bowl that costs 25 bucks. Small and bare and barely any sauce. The orange chicken serving was also puny. And of course, there it was, small sides of rice that came with the meal next to the separate steamed rice sides we had ordered at a whopping 7 bucks each. Why lie to your patrons? Why make sure people have an experience that will insure they will not be repeat customers? Why lie to customers when they call? Small servings for the money and not being told the truth when you specifically call with a question has made it so our family is still looking for a good Chinese food experience in this area. read more

FINALLY!!! A good Chinese restaurant in town! Large portions, good service, clean, updated inside.I especially love the pan fried noodles with BBQ pork and lots of veggies. Wor wonton soup is also good- one is dark, with a lot of soy, the clear one is more traditional. Both have lots of veggies and proteins. My dining companion loved the three kinds of mushrooms with chicken, hot and sour soup, and shrimp spring rolls. I have returned several times and the food is consistently very good. There were two people in the dining room eating (at 8 on a weekend), so the kitchen definitely wasn't busy. I've been eating at this restaurant since I was a teenager. My grandparents would come to town from the bay area and we would go to this exact location for lunch and sometimes dinner. We all very much enjoyed it and now my partner, and I we eat here once maybe twice a month. Such good food. The one waiter guy is our favorite. He sweet and hilarious. Honestly, one time we went there a few months ago. It was very dull inside that building without him there. No offense to the other staff. This is something about his presence. I can't believe I skipped out on this place before! 100% fire food and the customer service is so genuine and great. Parking is off the street and may be tricky on a busy day. okay! this restaurant is a hear me out kinda place . from the outside looks kinda sus and the menu is kinda tattered and roughly put together , the place itself smells a lil funky (the way most authentic Chinese places do) BUT the host/waitress was very soft spoken and sweet. I decided to come here to try their $5 master wok bowl that I've been seeing advertised all over socials. I ordered for takeout and got an Orange Chicken bowl with fried rice and added 2 egg rolls for $2.95 my grand total came to about $8.77. The food was hot and fresh and they added some bell peppers and chopped onion along in the orange chicken and honestly was quite refreshing! The chicken was tender and the breading wasn't hard or overwhelming! The egg rolls were hot and the savory cabbage inside was delicious! In my opinion this place just needs help with the marketing and maybe some more staff? Overall this was a pleasant surprise and veryyyyy affordable! We had high hopes for this place. We heard there was good food under the new ownership so we visited for lunch. Unfortunately the food was not great. The food l has a cigarette smell to it i presume is from old burnt oil. We tried to be polite and eat it but had to check out early. The wait staff and hostess are great and the atmosphere is nice. Everything was super tasty and the customer service was great! We went at around 2:30 so were able to take advantage of the 10$ lunch specials which are available until 3. I got the Polynesian punch, a fruity bubble tea, and the imperial tofu lunch special. My meal came with egg flour soup, fried rice and an egg roll. My partner got the sesame chicken with eggflower soup, fried rice and fried wonton. You can also pick salad and steamed rice to go with your meal if you wish. The imperial tofu was delicious! Sweet and savory with nice pieces of pineapple, onion, and fried tofu. The fried rice was savory and perfectly cooked. I thought it was strange that the egg flower soup had cabbage, but it was yummy. The eggroll was delicious and delightfully crispy. We also got bbq pork as an appetizer which was moist and very tasty. We will definitely stop by again. read more

When we arrived at the restaurant we waited at the front for some time waiting to be seated no employees in sight when one of the other customers said they told them to seat themselves which we did. We waited even longer before someone brought us a menu. When the waiter did show up he took the order of someone he seemed to know who arrived after us. This is a public service to those raised in SF who are accustomed to eating tasty Chinese food. The Eureka Hunan Restaurant ued old and burnt oil for our take-out order. We paid about $80.00 for a meal and EVERY dish was awful except the white rice. The chow mein had an "old oil" flavor, the prawns were breaded, not battered, as is traditional and they were burnt to a v e r y dark brown--had to toss them (a $10.00 side item) The beef in the broccoli-beef dish had no flavor, at all; not even a soy sauce flavor! The General Tso chicken looked like it should, but was also flavorless, except for the burnt oil nuances. What an incredible waste of my family's money. In regard those, who may adore this type of Chinese food preparation, they are not to blame as many may have never had an opportunity to experience traditionally prepared dishes. This Eureka California Hunan Restaurant has been removed from our options. We are sad to make this report, as over the years we've lost quite a few Chinese dining choices in the City of Eureka, due to the economic downturn. Sorry folks--Hunan Restaurant in Eureka is a "zero" star rating. P.S. To working families: please spend your hard-earned dollars in an alternate eating establishment. Solid three stars. I'll try it again but it wasnt the greatest experience but seemed like they were overwhelmed. First thing... the people working were wonderful. There were only two people there and we seemed to come at the beginning of the dinner rush, or the rush of take out orders. So it took a minute to get seated and get menus. No worries. Those things happen. All around for their service I give them a thumbs up. The food was where I had a few questions. Not bad by any means but some things were not to my usual preference. We ordered the combination chow mein, general tso chicken, Szechuan pork, and pork buns. The flavor of the general tso chicken and Szechuan pork was tasty. Nothing spectacular but good all around. The pork buns were perfectly steamed and flavorful despite not having the char siu color inside I'm used to. The chow mein was good overall but the pork that was used in it seems like it was reheated at some point so it left me a little miffed. That aside. I'd try everything again and then some. What I didn't like was the fact that the general tso chicken was $13 and only came with about 8 small pieces of chicken. I really wanted more for the price. The other 2 things was too they didn't have any rice ready. So although our two meat dishes should have come with rice, we didn't receive any. There were also no sauces offered with the pork buns and no shoyu/soy sauce anywhere. I would have asked but the one waitress seemed overwhelmed and I didn't want to add to her day because she was doing a great job handling the chaos. read more
