My soul-mate and I visited Chin's Cafe this evening. The last time we ate here was in November. We had our usual: General Tso's Chicken, Sesame Prawns and Pork Fried Rice. As has been true in the past, it was all delicious. My only criticism is that they could leave off the white rice (we never eat it, and we already have the Pork Fried kind), and they serve way too much broccoli, which we never eat, but I suspect it's more of a presentation thing. Paul, the waiter/host, is very friendly and makes you feel like you are visiting an old friend. It looks like they may have recovered the booths. It all looks good. I believe this is the best Chinese restaurant in Humboldt, and possibly the best kept secret. read more

Food was great. Always looking for Chinese food like we used to have in the 50's and 60's. Not an easy task and the cooks have changed their recipes to suit American palates. My family stopped by this spot during our road trip to Humboldt County. We were craving some good Chinese food as we always do every time we go on vacation so we decided to come here. We haven't always had good experiences trying Chinese food in areas outside of big cities so we were kind of skeptical, but this place was actually so good! So good that my Chinese mother approved! The server was really nice and my family had a good time chatting with him. For food, we ordered the honey walnut prawns, orange chicken, black pepper beef, pork fried rice, and beef chow fun. All of them were so tasty and each meat dish came with a portion of white rice. They were flavorful and tasted like home. I'm not sure if Chinn changed chicken vendors, but my sweet and sour chicken looked strange. A bit disappointed with my order.

Excellent, friendly service. Not a fancy place, but I was comfortable. Lunch and combinations offer great deals. Can't beat the prices. Loved the massive amounts of vegetable in the pork chow mein. We have many good Chinese spots in Sacramento. In town for about a week and tried this hole in the wall. We were skeptical because of the name but still gave it a tried. The place was clean and neat. Lots of seating area. Service and food were excellent!! I would recommend this place and would go there again. Lots of food options. Tried the following: Cashew chicken - this was ok but very few cashews in the dish. General chicken - this was good. Would order again. Sweet and tangy. My shu beef - best dish in my opinion. The best Chinese food in all of Humboldt and the close surrounding counties. When we go, we order a ton of food and happily live off of the leftovers for the next couple days. A few favorites are the mango ginger chicken, general Tao chicken (extra spicy please!! ), combination lomein, chicken wings, honey walnut prawns, orange peel beef, vegetable mo shu, and crabcheese puffs. The service is excellent. It's a treat every time. The only disappointment is that we forgot they are closed on Sunday. read more

This is absolute garbage. They give you fried pieces of I don't know what kind of meat and call it chicken, looks like throw up, and then give you the sauce to put it on yourself. All the sauces were terrible. The fried rice is so bland and looks burnt. The pot stickers are so bland and have hardly any filling. Should have known by how empty it was and the weird smell inside that it was bad. Will never go here again. I found this restaurant by accident as I was traveling through with an overnight stop next door at the Comfort. It's was late , near closing time, covid restrictions in place meant a grab and go back to the room. I thought I'd try something different and I'm a fan of mangos...MANGO GINGER CHICKEN was my selection. The service was fast and ready by the time i walked next door. The egg foo young is big enough for 2 people to share. Veggies are crisp and fresh. Meat is quality and cooked right. The outside of the building is a bit shabby, most of the boths have rips and are patched, and the parking lot is small and awkward --- but don't second guess the quality of the food and excellent service. I don't think they seasoned this at all. I got fried rice that was the color of soy sauce but had literally no flavor besides sesame oil. The egg drop soup was watery and flavorless as well. Barely had any veggies besides cabbage and almost no egg. Do NOT go here. I don't think I've ever had Chinese food this bad, even from Panda Express. Omg... served in 2 boxes. One box of slimy goop that was supposed to be barbecue pork, but looked more like ground chicken & too salty to eat. There is not much decent Chinese food in our area here behind the Redwood curtain, so having Chin's Cafe here even though it is over 25 miles away from our home we try to stop by for a good meal whenever we are down on the south side of Humboldt bay. Chin's is consistently good Chinese food. This place has been here for years and every time we eat here its always a solid good meal. Friendly family run service that is prompt, courteous and kind, don't let the outside of this place fool you or the fact that it is beside and rundown motel (lots of transient and low ends) the food is worth a stop. There are all of the standards that you expect to find on a menu of a westernized Chinese food restaurant. As well, they have a decent selection of Soda, Beer, Wine and Sake. The General Tao's Chicken is right on the mark, nice pieces of chicken thigh meat well prepared and fried to perfection then covered in that tangy spicy sauce. The Kung Pao Chicken is also a solid choice as well, a large serving mixed with veggies, chicken, peanuts and an awesome spicy sauce. Both the hot and sour and egg drop soups are quite tasty as well. Try the half order of fried shrimp - awesome! The house Sake warm is also a nice choice, as are all of the bottled beers. We have eaten here a few times now over the past few years and every visit we are greeted promptly, seated immediately and waited on professionally - the food has always been hot, prepared to order and served quickly. The fried shrimp didn't even have a whole shrimp in it. The fried rice tasted like it was cooked on a dirty burnt grill. My children refused to eat it & they are not picky eaters. The egg rolls contained almost no filling. This was the worst Chinese food. Don't waste your money. read more
