I would give less than 1 start if I could, there is practically no filling in these crab cream cheese wontons there's absolutely no crab at all so they should be called cream cheese wontons and they cost $8. Total rip off. The sauce they come with tastes like watery ketchup not sweet and sour dipping sauce at all. This isn't just the worst in Eureka but probably in all of California. After hearing some positive comments, I thought I'd give it a whirl, especially since I haven't had Chinese locally since Liu's closed. This wasn't the worst I've had in town, but it leaves a lot to be desired. I ordered: -Appetizer Assortment - The bbq pork tasted off, the shrimp was skimpy, way way more batter than shrimp, the rest was fine, but nothing spectacular, just fried. -General Tao Chicken and Orange Chicken--aside from smell and look, they basically tasted the same, and absolutely no spice on the General Tao. The broccoli that accompanied them was a bit sour. -Pork Fried Rice--it looked saturated with soy sauce, but instead it was bland and a bit greasier than I like, with the occasional minuscule bit of pork. I essentially had to douse it in soy sauce to make it palatable. -Of all the items I ordered, I did enjoy the sauce for the appetizers, it was light and sweet without being gelatinous hummingbird food like most other places. I would not eat here again, and am sad I spent so much on a bad return. Back to making dishes in my kitchen. read more

Food is good. There pork chowmein is good. It is not all onions and celery as most places. The owner Paul and his wife are very sweet people, they are always smiling and happy to see anybody that comes by. They do alot of takeout others and door dash orders. read more

Maybe it's because I am from the SF bay area accustomed to good Chinese food. So the rating may be unfair comparing this to what I am used to, but it was the Worst Chinese food I have had. The dish was dry, flavorless and a huge disappointment. Let's start with the soup, you know when you get the food and you get the first whiff of the odor, well I just had a nauseas reflex that has not happened to me in a while. Just got the overwhelming feeling something wasn't right with the food. Not to mention that the whole place really gives off a bad odor In general not very appetizing to say the least. Service was fine, but everything about this place was wrong to me. I love good Chinese food and maybe I am just used to better than this but I am serious it's not a good choice the way it's currently set up. I will say that the entree was a bit better, seem to be using a decent quality beef but the soup just set me off in a bad way. I always get the Chinese chicken salad and it's always consistently good. I used to come here all the time when I lived in Eureka and coming for a visit five years later, it's just as delicious as it was then. The owner even remembered me as I was getting food to go. Great service and yummy food. I had the Orange Peel Chicken -- it wasn't as spicy as I'd expected but a little chili sauce fixed that; otherwise it was fantastic. Very large portion -- I eat a lot and I left full -- and the prices are very reasonable. read more

Sweet and sour sauce tasted like ketcup, lemon sauce for the lemon chicken made with kool-aid packets We spent over $100 on a delivery and these are only a few things we experienced. I stayed at the Comfort Inn ( clean and affordable) right next to Chin's...I called for a veggie/tofu dish and a few minutes later it was ready. It is very flavorful and the owner was super friendly. Definitely a good stop. read more

No stars would still be too good of a rating! Went there in August with friends. Food was truly unedible. Owner/mgr was rude and mean. No offer to refund anything for the food we could not eat (which was all of it). This is the last place you should ever eat at while in Eureka. Can't imagine the motel next door is any better. I recently dug up some local history about Chin's restaurant. Ben Chin, a WW2 veteran came to Eureka in 1954 to start a restaurant he was the first Chinese person to live here since the Chinese expulsion of 1885. He got tons of racist obscene calls and threats from the dipshit locals. In an interview from 2009 he said "I've been in the war. My family has eaten at Chin's since the 1950's. We didn't get to eat out much so it was always a big treat. When I was raising my own kids, I would treat them to dinner at Chin's also. I recently moved back to Humboldt County to retire and ordered take-out from Chin's. My husband is not a fan of Chinese food so he ordered a bacon cheeseburger. It was awful. The first time I went to Chin's, I ordered a lunch special and they instead brought me two full dishes and charged me for both of them. It was more than I was trying to pay or eat but the food was good and I figured I'd eat the rest later so I paid in full without complaint. The next few times I went, everything was ok so my impression of Chin's improved. However, the last time I went, I ordered a bowl of hot & sour as an appetizer. The hot & sour tasted funky like it had been stewing for far too long but I was hungry so I ate it. HUUGE MISTAKE! I got very sick and couldn't even eat the rest of the food that I ordered. Friendly service. Chow mein tasted a bit burnt and chow fun was somewhat bland. Eggrolls were oily and tasted plain with little filing (most of the roll was just the wrap itself) and potstickers were also too oily! Despite that, I'd prefer potstickers over th eggrolls--although potstickers do have some ginger stuffed in them, but it's not overpowering. I think the best out of what was ordered was the honey walnut shrimp. We thought we would try out this Chinese restaurant as we've driven by it so many times. First, their parking lot is terrible, very hard to get into and be super careful backing out. Going into the restaurant I noticed that most of the vinyl upholstery in the booths had been repaired with tape. It's been awhile since they've done an update. We were seated at a booth perusing the menu when we noticed it. The bane of a nice dining experience. The TV was tuned to Fox. Why is this becoming so common? Racism and hate doesn't improve the taste of the food or the ambiance. So we got up and left, and informed the manager of the reason on our way out. Friendly, owner took order Food was ok. - sweet and sour fish came with a good portion of deep fried fish that was somewhat bland. The veggies (carrots and green peppers) were nearly raw. The sweet sauce was not that great. - Sichuan Beef did not use Sichuan spices but rather standard red chiles. I LOVE CHIN'S!!! Every single time I crave Chinese food I go to Chin's. It's simply the best Chinese cuisine on the North Coast. The Kung Pao Chicken is my favorite! Great for lunch or dinner, they're always nice and seat you right away -- unlike a lot of places. The prices are reasonable, the food flavor is great, the ambiance is comfortable. I dig it. I have never had a bad meal here, and if you're a nice person I bet you won't either. The only bad thing about the place is his Motel in back. DO NOT go near or in that motel, it's just like all the other cheap motels in Eur-tweeka - Bad News. If you need a place to stay, go to the Holiday Inn, Quality Inn, or Best Western - it's worth the extra $$. read more

I promised a friend Chinese food, my treat, and told him to find the best rated place using the Yelp Android app. We were literally next door and I hadn't seen it because of some trees in the way. Got a laugh out of that. I think the most outstanding aspect of this place was the service. Our server (I didn't catch his name, and I feel bad about it) was so incredibly over the top awesome. He was possibly the most cheerful person I'd seen in ages and his mannerisms were polite almost to the point of novel formality - yet he was personable. We just all around got a really great feeling from him. He made us smile. Plus the food was fantastic. Everything tasted wonderful. There's a super weird hotel behind the restaurant. Not sure if it's actually associated with Chins or if someone just assumed. We had a view of some home-modded camper/van from our booth. It was creepy, but we were enjoying our meal so much that the hotels horror factor seemed distant and amusing, rather than anything off putting at all. Came in last night for the first time ever; I always want to try a local Chinese food anything, hoping that I will be at least remotely impressed. My experience last night still leaves me disappointed. We walked in, only customers in the place, I should have taken that as a sign. The waiter was really, really nice, and is the ONLY reason it gets two stars, makes me wish this place was better. I ordered the Chinese Chicken Salad; it was wilted, brown lettuce that tasted funny, and I'm fairly certain the chicken was from a can. I ended up sending it back, even though it broke my heart to see the look on the waiter's face. My Husband ordered Chow Mein with pan fried noodles and Kung Pao Chicken; what he got was Kung Pao Celery, and the bits were so small it made it difficult to eat. Nothing tasted fresh. There was also bizarre love music playing; Bryan Adams tunes with no words....kinda creepy in a way. All in all, we tried this place, hoping to find something decent, but we won't be going back. For future reference, any Chinese restaurant that's attached to a tweeker motel may not be that great. read more

We ordered several dishes which were ok. We liked the pork appetIzer and war wonton soup, however the shrimp chow mein was inedible. The shrimp was mushy and very fishy. We didn't want to take a chance so we had to grow it away. Ten dollars down the drain. Owners should really make sure they are serving food-safe seafood. read more

Disclaimer: we were very hungry and had been traveling cheap only eating fast food. With the above in mind this place was amazing. Chin was very courteous and helpful, his service was excellent. We ordered chicken chow mein and beef broccoli, it was enough to feed two very hungry adults. The portions are very good for the price. I really dislike writing negative reviews but wow! This place was terrible! We had to try it because it seemed to get a lot of good reviews. The creepy heroin den of a Motel behind it is what kept us away. The only positive is that the people were very nice. We ordered egg roll appetizer which was really small spring rolls that were hollow inside. One of mine actually had two tiny slivers of carrot and a 1 cm square of cabbage. The "sweet and sour sauce" was ketchup diluted with vinegar. The wonton soup was ok. Could use some spring onions and ginger. There were just wontons at the bottom of clear flavorless broth. The chicken fried rice was fried rice with chicken jerky. There were no vegetables in it at all. I only tasted it and it was a lot like eating hospital food. Ordered the general tsao's chicken with only breast meat and got more chicken jerky. It was very disappointing. I usually give places 3 tries before I'm over them but I've seen enough here to say never again. read more
