What a gem! We just happened to stumble upon here after dining next door at Annie's during our national parks trip and what a find! Owner is friendly, helpful, and easy to talk to. We got some caramel haichus which apparently are hard to find and some boba tea candy for the drive back home. They have a $5 credit card minimum. As other Yelpers have mentioned, they normally close at 6 PM. I guess we got lucky since we stopped by around 7ish on a Saturday evening. Hopefully they've updated their hours! read more

It took me a while to figure out how to shop here. About half the store is easy to understand. Rice, ramen, soy sauce, sake... everything you can think of when you think of Eastern Cuisine. But there's a ton of stuff that is really weird. The kind of strange concoction that might be used on the set of Star Trek as a food the Klingon High Council. The things I watch out for is high sodium counts. As with most mass produced stuff there's emulsifiers, preservatives and taste enhancers (MSG) that is just not good for people. For example you can buy dried ramen (much like the top ramen available anywhere) without the nasty soup packages. And unlike the counterpart, the list of ingredients is short and recognizable. As an unrelated person point, it has been my life effort to avoid all things made in China. The chopsticks are mostly made in China, a few in Japan. Rice Makers made in Japan. The foods from China are meant to be from China. Because, well you know... so there are alternatives where most stores there are none. The prices are spot on. Let's be honest we all check Amazon for prices. Their prices are just as good. And they continue to do their main job. Provide friendly and helpful service. My one complaint (but they are given a pass here, under the Mom And Pop Store clause) is they're closed on Sundays and Mondays. This is a cool place. If anyone moves to Eureka and wanted to know a place they should check out. Put this on that list. read more

Really great prices in a walkable location. Never thought I would find this Japanese gem in Eureka. They have every Japanese item you could possibly think of; they even have cheap Japanese beer! This place is very busy with very small aisles. The store itself is also unbearably warm. I wish they would open the front door and let the breeze come in. read more

I love Little Japan market! I'm part Japanese and used to have to go to the Bay Area or mail order Japanese ingredients. So excited to have this store back after a multi year hiatus. The owner is super friendly and really makes you feel good about supporting this local small business. Lot's of fun stuff here, as well as good ingredients. Love this place!!! A favorite shop from my high-school age has reopened in Henderson center. Great selection of Japanese candies, chips, CURRY, instant noodles, tea, and sake. The cooler's have cold ramune and calpico, and lots of other drinks I cant wait to try. And frozen foods too, I have only have gotten mochi. Also, you will see familiar snacks like oreo's and kit-kats on occasion, just as a different variant. Lots of the snacks have a printed nutritional information sticker on the back in English with names of the snacks, so you can get and idea of what it is. I've asked before if unsure what the flavor is. My favorite is the left wall by the cash register with all the cute stationary and toys, and all the chopstick sets, so much to stare at. Lots of dinnerware and tea/sake sets on the right wall. read more

YESSSS!!!!! There is finally a Japanese supermarket in arcata! My Japanese fiancée goes crazy for this place. He's always coming home saying, "I got a surprise for you" and he'll bring me home some Japanese dessert I've never heard of that's totally delicious. According to my man, they have some real authentic stuff. He's really into cooking Japanese food now, which was difficult before this store came along. Some of the ingredients could only be found in San Francisco, but thanks to this place we have good Japanese ingredients in our backyard. We support Little Japan all we can! We keep shopping here so they can stay in business long term. We hope you guys will be here for many years. read more

I had an excellent experience today. I have been on a quest to find the tofu that goes with inari sushi- little deep fried pockets of tofu. I tried both the other asian markets in Eureka with no success, and little japan came through for me. So I was doing my Henderson Center errands and a change in the old Redwood Pharmacy building caught my eye. "Little Japan Market" the door now said and of course I was interested in checking out something new. I love food variety, and I have always lenjoyed shopping around the corner at the Hmong market so I was stoked. Once in the market I realized that it seemed a little familiar, and it was. The owner had done the store once before, but it was down by the new co-op before there was a new co-op. This is a much better location. The store is very clean and well stocked. All the food I have bought has been fresh (a problem in some specialty stores) and I was even able to find some new things. Down in the bay I love going to the Ranch 99 market chain, so getting my almond covered Pocky chocolates was a real treat locally. There is a nice section of rice toppings, sushi supplies, sake, prepacked goods, and kitchenware. The owner is very nice and enthusiastic about his store. He is knowledgeable and eager to help. He also mentioned that he is increasing his selection and if I wanted anything he would be happy to source it. Overall I am very pleased that this store is back open, and in a much nicer location. This shop is so cool! My husband and I heard some people just raving about this place and we had to check it out. It did not disappoint.
