Safeway has been wonderful to seniors throughout the years. Years ago I remember them helping an…read moreelderly blind lady do her shopping back in the old location. A van brought her to Safeway and they helped her every step of the way with her list. Fast forward, Safeway was an amazing help during Covid days, to be able to pick up my groceries outside. They still offer this service, and they still deliver the food as well when a person is not feeling up to par or they are no longer able to drive. You have to be specific ie: (green bananas only, non-bruised apples, only a certain brand and no substitutes, and so forth. The new manager at Safeway is the nicest man. He is doing a great job. One day I offered to buy a roll of the old produce plastic bags when the new stinky ones came in. He gave me a whole roll for free, and I still have many left. Stinky produce bags go straight to the garbage if I forget to bring my own. Mostly all of the employees at Safeway I have encountered through the years are nice. The few that are outright rude cause their manager to have an earful of complaints. From there, the rude ones correct their behavior, or we no longer see them. Safeway has my Forager Project Organic Unsweetened Plain 1g sugar Non-dairy Cashew & Coconut Yogurt for $2 less than the health food stores, which is a huge savings as Forager with organic fruit in the morning is a staple for me. Or I make my Forager Freeze for an ice cream like desert. While there, I also buy organic fruit, organic vegetables, and their Signature brand Organic Blueberry Preserves, among other things. Safeway butcher even cut a whole organic chicken in half for me (called Spatchock). People complain about paper bags with no handles, but I suggest getting a reusable bag with handles and putting the paper bag inside that. This way a paper bag can be used again and again if nothing wet is put into the bag. If something wet is put in, it prevents the bag from breaking and spilling all over the parking lot on the way to the car. This also saves a dime not having to purchase a bag. Laws ending the ability to get the plastic bags with handles at check-out was a bigger complaint of mine, as I could put several plastic bags on my arms to carry everything in at once, where paper falls through if anything wet is in the paper and means harvesting more trees. I have my reusable bags (one from Murphys that stands up while loading for 99 cents and many of which are Safeway plastic bags with handles that I continue to use over and over and then I use for recycles and they still hold up. Some laws are stupid, when big corporations continue to make and use plastic to cover everything and we use plastic for garbage bags to prevent filthy garbage cans covered with bugs and attracting bears & other wildlife.
