I brought 13 garments to Kathy's cleaner, including several designer pieces, and deeply regret trusting them with my high-end clothing. It quickly became clear that they have no experience handling designer garments. The cleaning was rough, and many items came back with a strong chemical smell. Two of my designer items were visibly damaged, while others showed clear signs of poor handling-hardware(zippers) came back discolored, and down seams started shedding feathers. This kind of damage is unacceptable for luxury clothing. One of a designer down coat- came back with a red stain on the hood. When I brought this to Kathy's attention, she refused to take responsibility and insisted the stain was pre-existing, even through she had never inspected the item before cleaning or warned me of any risks. She also claimed there was no way to remove the stain. I later took the same coat to another professional cleaner in Cupertino, where they immediately recognized the stain as ink and removed it completely without harming the fabric. They also explained how they carefully protect metal hardware during cleaning-something Kathy's failed to do. Another designer item- a limited edition reversible down jacket- was also poorly handled. After cleaning at Kathy's, the navy side showed visible marks under sunlight, and a horizontal scratch appeared just below the collar. The white paneling on the reverse side was also not properly cleaned. I am now seeking professional restoration and hoping this piece can still be salvaged. Overall, this experience has shown not only a lack of professional skill in handling designer or delicate items, but also a lack of responsibility and care. Kathy's cleaner charges premium prices, but the service is poor and the business is run with a lack of integrity. I'm sharing this so others are aware: Do not take any expensive or special garments to Kathy's Cleaner. They are simply not equipped to handle them, and the risk is not worth it.

I'm an average-sized guy--not skinny but definitely not overweight, with a normal height and build. At least half of the men I know are about my size or very close to it. I brought my shirts in, and she claimed I was a 'big guy,' saying her press machine would not take my shirts, claimi g they are too big, so she had to press them by hand. Then she quoted an extremely high price of $6. By the way, all my shirts were short-sleeved, which should make the job easier. Clearly just being greedy--I'll pass! Also, she pulled a cartoon showing the photo of the machine. I bet she uses the same trick all the time and that photo comes out multiple times everyday. I took my shirts to Diamong Laundry & Cleaners in downtown San Jose for $3 each, half the price of this greedy lady.

Stumbled on this business a few weeks back when I needed to get some clothes dry cleaned and others altered. I walked in right at opening and the owner greeted me with a warm smile and a friendly welcome. She was incredibly kind and had me laughing the entire time I was there. She even offered me a discount since I was a first time customer! Her alterations were immaculate and I am just so pleased with the service. Call me a customer for life! I will definitely be returning in the future.

The pros of Kathy's Cleaner are the late hours (open till 9pm), being open on certain holidays when other alteration places are closed, and they accept credit cards. Also Kathy seems nice, and is upfront about what she can and can't do, or what will cost extra (she does charge you upfront, but may ask for additional fees when you pick up if she had to do something extra). She'll also butter you up by complimenting your clothing or the material (which may be appealing if you're into that kind of thing). She's definitely friendly, and likes to engage in conversation, even unrelated to the services. She's helped me patch holes with furniture upholstery in the past, and most recently she performed alterations on two of my dresses and the quality of her work is decent, not a 10 out of 10 like my regular alteration shop (which is currently closed due to COVID), but pretty close, which I'm grateful for. Now for the cons of Kathy's Cleaner, starting with the high cost.. it's almost twice what other places charge, while the quality of Kathy's work is no better. I wouldn't mind paying extra if the service was a little better or she had a faster turnaround time. But this isn't the case. In fact it's worse. During my most recent visit, my clothes were not ready on time as quoted. Getting simple alterations done on two dresses of non-fancy material (ie. shortening the length of a dress) should not take more than a week IMO. But okay, maybe she's busy during this time... Then it just rubbed me the wrong way when I came to pick up my dresses and I suspect dishonesty. She told me the work would be done on a Tuesday (8 days after I dropped off the dresses). I know she said Tuesday because i remember telling her I would come on Wednesday to make sure it was ready, then I made a note it in my calendar. When I came on Wednesday and it was not ready, first she made me wait a while before telling me it wasn't ready as she roamed around in the back (maybe she couldn't find my dresses?!?), then she came to the front and made it seem like I was mistaken, saying that the quoted pickup date was Thursday (so I'd have to come back the next day). But I'm a pretty organized person and have good hearing, and I pay attention to detail especially when i'm paying for services... So whether it was forgetfulness, disorganization, or dishonesty (on the business' end)... either way, it's not cool, and it makes me question whether I should return to this establishment. And even if I was truly mistaken (only a 1% chance of this, but I'll give the benefit of the doubt) and there was no shadiness taking place, that just means the turnaround time is even more outrageous. I might give it another chance if I'm too lazy to get cash or other places are closed. But if you're considering getting alterations here, be wary of the lengthy turnaround time at Kathy's, and maybe look into a more reliable place if you can't afford a mishap like my experience (ie. if you need your clothes ready on time for an important event).

Got one set back with stains still on the garment but assumed it might just not be removable. Idk figured it was worth giving the benefit of the doubt since the staff seemed nice and capable. I should've been more diligent in checking the clothes the next time before I left but the recent set of clothes I picked up I inspected when I got home and looked untouched, in their original state and then I noticed the tag reading "needs sewing" was still on my dress strapped and unfixed. It wouldn't be that annoying since it really is my own fault but I gave the woman an extra week to fix it after she told me she was unable to do it in the original allotted time. I really should've checked in store before I left so it's mostly on me and they were a nice enough staff, just be careful before you pay. Either way, I paid full price for all of this and it wasn't cheap so I'm annoyed since I'll have to pay for them again to get done somewhere else properly.

I picked them because they were the closest ones to me geographically, but in hindsight I'm so grateful and feel lucky because it ended up being a wonderful experience. It takes a lot of blind trust to leave your dress with a complete stranger to cut up, only picking it up in the final weeks or even days before your wedding. I called the # listed and was connected with Thao (whose mother is Thuy) and immediately I loved knowing that this is a family business. Thao is very responsive and if she misses your call, you should leave a voicemail and she will get back to you in a timely fashion. Thao got me scheduled in right away for my free consultation within 48 hours of me reaching out. This was in November 2025 and the consult took us about 25 minutes. Initially, we just discussed what alterations needed to be done and we calendared a time for me to come in again for another fitting (closer to my March wedding). We agreed for me to come back in January 2026 after the holidays, to see if my body had changed at all. At the time, in November, my dress was a "perfect fit" and only needed some hemming and a bustle. In January, she quoted me and I paid at my final fitting pick-up. When I returned in January, thankfully, my body had not changed at all. Thao was actually the one who told me that my dress was a perfect fit in a November so beyond my regular diet and exercise, I did not make any major lifestyle changes so I wasn't too surprised when my dress still fit great! She pinned up my dress to prepare to hem four layers and we scheduled out another fitting for the first week of March 2026. This appointment took about 40 minutes. In March 2026, I came and the innermost skirt was a little too long at my second fitting when I tried to practice some moves for my first dance. Thao said she was able to fix it- no problem. She even steamed my cathedral veil for me. I returned a week later for my final fitting and everything was perfect. She sent me off and I got married later that week. I felt wonderful and beautiful on my wedding day, and I wore my gown for over 15 hours. Just this past weekend, I connected with her again to schedule out dropping off my dress and veil for dry-cleaning and some minor repairs. My dress had a few tears and the outer skirt was torn. Thao was really honest about her approach and shared how she planned to repair it and quoted me on the spot. She is really transparent and fast, and her prices are very fair. You can spend hours comparing quotes in the area, or you can just trust me - a really happy bride - and know that depending on how much work has to be done on your gown, you may be quoted somewhere between $200-650 here and her work will leave you feeling like you have -1 major thing to worry about. I think the key to the best experience is less on the seamstress and more on the bride: find a dress you feel comfortable in, one that compliments your body, and perhaps one that doesn't need a million things changed. Lastly, some personal advice: plan ahead- she is super busy and has tons of brides coming in everyday who already have an appointment. Don't wait until a month out to see a seamstress for the first time...! Make sure to bring your wedding shoes at every fitting if you have them!
