Now that holiday parties are back and my weight fluctuates, I knew I needed some new suits, and now whenever I get one, I get them tailored. Luckily I remembered Kathy, and she's still awesome. While she's primarily there for all your cleaning needs, which I haven't made use of yet -- she's been tailoring my suits ever since I discovered how great it feels to look good in a tailored suit. I've brought blazers, pants, and shirts in and she's honest enough to let you know if any article you brought doesn't need any work. She also super quick which is a big plus and also offers a cash discount but does take card. I brought 13 garments to Kathy's cleaner, including several designer pieces, and deeply regret trusting them with my high-end clothing.It quickly became clear that they have no experience handling designer garments. The cleaning was rough, and many items came back with a strong chemical smell. Two of my designer items were visibly damaged,while others showed clear signs of poor handling-hardware(zippers) came back discolored, and down seams started shedding feathers. This kind of damage is unacceptable for luxury clothing. One of a designer down coat- came back with a red stain on the hood. When I brought this to Kathy's attention, she refused to take responsibility and insisted the stain was pre-existing, even through she had never inspected the item before cleaning or warned me of any risks. She also claimed there was no way to remove the stain. I later took the same coat to another professional cleaner in Cupertino, where they immediately recognized the stain as ink and removed it completely without harming the fabric. They also explained how they carefully protect metal hardware during cleaning-something Kathy's failed to do. Another designer item- a limited edition reversible down jacket- was also poorly handled. After cleaning at Kathy's, the navy side showed visible marks under sunlight, and a horizontal scratch appeared just below the collar. The white paneling on the reverse side was also not properly cleaned. I am now seeking professional restoration and hoping this piece can still be salvaged. Overall, this experience has shown not only a lack of professional skill in handling designer or delicate items, but also a lack of responsibility and care. Kathy's cleaner charges premium prices, but the service is poor and the business is run with a lack of integrity. I'm sharing this so others are aware: Do not take any expensive or special garments to Kathy's Cleaner. They are simply not equipped to handle them, and the risk is not worth it. read more

I'm an average-sized guy--not skinny but definitely not overweight, with a normal height and build. At least half of the men I know are about my size or very close to it. I brought my shirts in, and she claimed I was a 'big guy,' saying her press machine would not take my shirts, claimi g they are too big, so she had to press them by hand. Then she quoted an extremely high price of $6. By the way, all my shirts were short-sleeved, which should make the job easier. Clearly just being greedy--I'll pass! Also, she pulled a cartoon showing the photo of the machine. I bet she uses the same trick all the time and that photo comes out multiple times everyday. I took my shirts to Diamong Laundry & Cleaners in downtown San Jose for $3 each, half the price of this greedy lady. read more

I needed pants to get hemmed and only cost like 5 bux and was done in about 20 mins. Kathy's super nice too.

My family has been coming here for 25+ years and she always does fantastic work at reasonable prices. I've gotten several pants hemmed here and recently got the sleeves trimmed and even tucked (for an additional $10) on a quarter zip. Definitely will continue to be a customer for a long, long time despite having to drive 30 minutes here. read more

The pros of Kathy's Cleaner are the late hours (open till 9pm), being open on certain holidays when other alteration places are closed, and they accept credit cards. Also Kathy seems nice, and is upfront about what she can and can't do, or what will cost extra (she does charge you upfront, but may ask for additional fees when you pick up if she had to do something extra). She'll also butter you up by complimenting your clothing or the material (which may be appealing if you're into that kind of thing). She's definitely friendly, and likes to engage in conversation, even unrelated to the services. She's helped me patch holes with furniture upholstery in the past, and most recently she performed alterations on two of my dresses and the quality of her work is decent, not a 10 out of 10 like my regular alteration shop (which is currently closed due to COVID), but pretty close, which I'm grateful for. Now for the cons of Kathy's Cleaner, starting with the high cost.. it's almost twice what other places charge, while the quality of Kathy's work is no better. I wouldn't mind paying extra if the service was a little better or she had a faster turnaround time. But this isn't the case. In fact it's worse. During my most recent visit, my clothes were not ready on time as quoted. Getting simple alterations done on two dresses of non-fancy material (ie. shortening the length of a dress) should not take more than a week IMO. But okay, maybe she's busy during this time... Then it just rubbed me the wrong way when I came to pick up my dresses and I suspect dishonesty. She told me the work would be done on a Tuesday (8 days after I dropped off the dresses). I know she said Tuesday because i remember telling her I would come on Wednesday to make sure it was ready, then I made a note it in my calendar. When I came on Wednesday and it was not ready, first she made me wait a while before telling me it wasn't ready as she roamed around in the back (maybe she couldn't find my dresses?!?), then she came to the front and made it seem like I was mistaken, saying that the quoted pickup date was Thursday (so I'd have to come back the next day). But I'm a pretty organized person and have good hearing, and I pay attention to detail especially when i'm paying for services... So whether it was forgetfulness, disorganization, or dishonesty (on the business' end)... either way, it's not cool, and it makes me question whether I should return to this establishment. And even if I was truly mistaken (only a 1% chance of this, but I'll give the benefit of the doubt) and there was no shadiness taking place, that just means the turnaround time is even more outrageous. I might give it another chance if I'm too lazy to get cash or other places are closed. But if you're considering getting alterations here, be wary of the lengthy turnaround time at Kathy's, and maybe look into a more reliable place if you can't afford a mishap like my experience (ie. if you need your clothes ready on time for an important event). read more

I ordered a dress online and it needed to be shortened just a little bit. It was a holiday week, so I called ahead and made sure they were open. Over the phone I asked it they could have a turnaround time of 3 days. The lady mentioned it depended on the type of dress. I went over to the store, tried the dress on and she said it was doable with a rush fee. Overall great customer service and great work here. I started coming here in 2018! She's knowledgeable!. She knows her craft. Her mastery of different fabrics of clothing is impressive. My husband arms are long. If you want them to lose or damage your clothes this is the place to go to. They lost a pricey jacket of mine and damaged another. I'm sure they would've "lost" the other too If they didn't damage it. MINUS 2 stars because the lulu's bridesmaid dress i needed cut to length was $120! It was still too long after i received it (but it was too late to alter again), so I had to lift up my dress a bit during the entire wedding. Mind you, there were many layers of the dress that had to be cut but another bridesmaid had her dress cut to length for $60 elsewhere in the BAY AREA & was perfectly altered. MINUS 1 star because I dry cleaned dresses/jumpsuits & 1 of 5 had a damaged clip afterward. Keeping 2 stars because the alterations person was kind & was able to fulfill my request of 10 items within 2 weeks. read more

I went no to another cleaner that I use to go to, but it is far from where I live. Showed them these pictures and they were shocked! They couldn't believe what they were seeing! They had never seen such damage for a simple process of dry cleaning a comforter! They offered to try to clean it again, but could not guarantee the outcome because they have never seen this kind of damage before. I am SO MAD that this crappy cleaner would not refund my money because they ruined my comforter! BEWARE of them! If I could sue them I would!!! read more

i sent out two comforters to get cleaned because my dog had thrown up on it (gross i know) but it was only on one small part of the comforter. we got the comforter back yesterday and it SMELLED SO BAD. at first i thought it was the chemicals from the dry cleaning but i smelled all over and it smelled musty. it really smelled like laundry that's been sitting in the wash for too long. it made my whole bedroom smell. i called her and she said that the dog vomit is the reason why it smelled. mind you, this is not the first time i have dry cleaned my comforter, just the first time we've gone to this cleaner. i've never had an issue with the comforter coming back smelly. the lady on the phone told me the vomit is the reason why it smelled bad. AGAIN-this is not the first time we've dry cleaned our comforter. she kept arguing with me and told me that the comforter smelled bad in the first place. i'm sorry but isn't the point of getting something professionally dry cleaned to get rid of the smell as well? she said if you wanted the smell to go away you have to pay for the extra deodorizer. $130 for dry cleaning and you're telling me that i'm gonna get back a stinky comforter?! take your money elsewhere! customer service is trash and clearly so is the quality of the work! read more

WOW! Kathy is a magician! I had about 10 pairs of Men's lululemon pants that had stretched out over time to the point where they didn't fit me anymore. I was worried about taking them to a tailor because I did not think they would be able to take them in given the special tech material. Luckily I found Kathy, and she did an amazing job. She was able to take in the pants ~2 inches and was able to hide the stitching behind a belt loop. This saved me from having to buy all new pants! This place is truly a hidden gem (kind of hidden to be honest since it's between foodie places ). I went here a couple of times to try it out since reviews were stellar and some of my friends also recommended me the place. I brought in a couple of denim jeans to shorten and a long sleeve button-up as well and I'm surprised at how reasonable her prices are. I was expecting a lot more but she said since it's only shortening the length for my jeans, it does not take too much labor time, and I was able to pick them up a week later. Kathy was such a friendly and genuine person, I feel. As a new customer, she was just curious how I found out about her shop and wanted to get to know me more, which I thought that's pretty rare compared to other shops that just makes you come and go and avoid talking to the customer as much as possible (especially during COVID times). She did also mention alteration orders can usually be really busy and get backed up for her since she's the only seamstress working, but it's nice to know a heads up on how busy she can be! It's refreshing to see that an owner such as her is still welcoming customers so kindly and trying to communicate with them whether about their order or just to have a lighthearted conversation. Not going here again. I have an important conference and just opened my Blazer from the plastic. The blazer is smelly( it was worn on the bullet in Japan and the arms still smell)...there r threads coming out of the back...and the buttons don't close like before. Its my understanding original hem is when they remove your hem from your store bought length and re-attach it. This was the only cleaner in Milpitas that I could: 1) Understand 2) Find They are a rather good deal, but the send out a lot of their clothes to another location, and some things get lost in the shuffle. One pair of my pants were lost in the ether for a few days before I was able to collect them. One of my french cuffed shirts is still AWOL. I don't think it's intentional. They're just a bit disorganized. If you keep careful accounting of what you drop off and what you pick up, it is a fair value. read more

Kathy is chatty lady with a great sense of humor. Besides having a great personality, she does a wonderful original hem. I've had my jeans altered with the original hem at other places, but for this pair of jeans I decided to stay within city limits out of laziness. I'm glad I stayed local. I didn't realize how low my expectations for original hems were, until now after getting a pair of jeans hemmed from Kathy. Kathy made the outside AND inside of my jeans look like nothing was done.
