I had gone here growing up in miami and it was good. Several years back went again and I don't remember having a great experience. Tonight the whole experience was excellent. Sure we had to wait a bit but well worth the wait. If you don't see what you want on a the little boats just order from the server, the menu can be found online. I was super surprised (shocked really) about the quality of the fish... it was super fresh and such nice pieces. They also had toro which is always awesome to see as a special. My and my girls favorite hidden (well not so hidden anymore) gem. We love the small / intimate setting , the food is always delicious and it's Surpsingly affordable and such a great concept. Grab as many plates as you'd like , prices are on the wall based on the color of the plate. This place was great!! They are conveyor belt style in the form of a river with boats holding the sushi - very creative and fun! The sushi tasted great and the service was as well. I have never had fried squid on a stick before so this was a first. Their prices range from $2.50 - $9.50. They also have a menu if you are not seeing what you want on the belt. Food comes out quickly and the belt is always full with variety. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. Pro tip: COME EARLY! This was our first time here and we actually came an hour early because we had nothing better to do so as we were sipping on beers at a bar next door, people started lining up. We knew then that we messed up. The shop seats about 25 so if you're not in line by 5:30pm you're waiting for the next round. read more

This place!!! I love it so much!! The concept is super original, I hd never seen it done before. The staff is friendly, the prices are reasonable (especially for sushi) and its just an overall great experience! The one thing i will recommend to anyone that wants to go is to check if they have a virtual line or a way of including yourself on the wait list through their website. My boyfriend and I were able to be seated withing 15 minutes of arrival (before people who were there before us) because we did a virtual check in. This is KEY to not wait over an hour. My girlfriends and I decided to go after hearing lots of of good things about this restaurant. We arrived around 9 PM on a Friday night and we had to wait around an hour to get our table. They have a website where you sign up and receive a text when your table is ready. While we waited, we went to a bar that was nearby. At around 10 PM, we received a message that our table was ready. We waited for a bit around the restaurant and finally got our table. The set up of the restaurant was so cute! I loved that all the sushi came in boats and you choose what plate to get. They charge you based on the color of the plate, and the price goes from $2-$6 per plate. You are also able to see the chef make the sushi and put it in the boats. I was able to eat so many different things! I got some sushi, dumplings, octopus, salad, among other things! to drink my friends ordered water and I ordered a chardonnay. Even though the place is a little cramped and there is some kind of wait going during the weekends, getting the sushi trough a boat was really entertaining and cute. Fun place, for a different restaurant date experience. Very hard working and nice staff from the sushi chef that prepares the food right in front of you to the waitresses. You can pick from the boats floating in front of you or you can specifically ask for something and they make it right at the moment. Got there at 6:02 (opens at 6) and was told it was a 2 hour wait.. we were 18th in line. After putting our names down we went into the bar next door (Bob's your uncle) and had a great time getting drinks and playing games. Got called in 1:45 min later. Katana is a really really awesome place. The sushi is always fresh, and they have really good options. The unique factor about this restaurant is that it is round and round style on little boats. The place is a true hole in the wall. This makes that a very good thing and a very bad thing. Very good thing is that it's a super cool experience when you're sitting inside at a table. The bad thing is is that there's always lines. You can almost guarantee you're gonna wait at least 30 minutes to an hour. But it's usually worth the wait. The food always amazing, the good stuff is pricey but worth it. Last time I went they had a signing list and it seems that people started signing at 5 pm and they place opens at 6 pm. Definitely go into this experience expecting to wait 1.5 hours. My two friends and I arrived at 7pm (an hour after they opened) on a Monday, and that was our wait time. The man that takes down your name and phone number will let you know that the wait time is long and will even let you know how many parties are in front of you (for us it was 16). There are legit only three 4-person tables and maybe 10 seats at the bar where the sushi floats by. Because of this and the type of experience, wait times can get very lengthy. Even when we left at 9:15pm, there were still people waiting to be seated. If you go in knowing this, it really won't be a big deal. To ride out the wait, we just popped over to Bob's Your Uncle Next Door for some drinks. The bartenders here are lovely and probably very used to Katana patrons stopping in. When we finally got seated, we wasted absolutely no time in trying almost every dish that floated by. The rolls were incredible and the sashimi and nigiri were to die for. There were also some "hot" dishes like shumai and gyozas. After grabbing about 18 plates (the prices are determined by the color of the plate and a guide is available on one of the walls inside the restaurant), we capped things off with a delicious udon noodle soup with a poached egg and a banana tempura dessert with vanilla ice cream. We ordered those from the regular menu, which you can do for all sushi and other items as well. The damage for 3 people (including tip) was $38/pp which is an INCREDIBLE value for the amount of food we had and the amazing quality. I've read some not so great things about the service, specifically the man that takes down your information. He's short with people, but he's one of 2 people taking names, orders and delivering food. It's a small operation that's also trying to get everyone in and out as quickly as possible. I found the service when we sat to be extremely pleasant. Even when things floated by and we asked ourselves "oh, what's this?" someone behind the counter would ALWAYS answer. Parking was a breeze either in front or behind the restaurant. The owner usually calls for our names after we have waited for about an hour (in the former method, they used to hand out pieces of paper with numbers and be called in order every hour) the system SUCKS the owner every time I came up to ask would say 1 hour wait or 45 minutes to 1hr - by 10:30 pm We gave up!!!!! He has no idea what he is doing. This must change!!!! A lot of the local, devoted customers will leave and not return due to the terrible customer service. It's been a while since we visited this restaurant, we got ourselves on a wait list as we arrived. I approach the server/manager to ask how the system works and she proceeded to tell me that I had 17 people on the wait list before my turn . She showed me the list on her computer and there was guess from 5:30 pm on that list that according to the manager had not arrived . I was on the wait list at 8:15 pm . This process is not clear to the customer and to me very suspicious. I noticed regular customer would come in and immediately were sat. Very disappointing to see how the process works. The restaurant is really fun and engaging. Small boats with small plates of sushi and delights float down a river that surrounds a sushi chef in the middle. You pick the plates you'd like to eat as they pass on boats down the water in front of you. The prices are based on the color of the plates. There is also a full menu you can order from. Today we ate miso soup, edamame, house salad with ginger dressing and many sushi plates plus matcha ice cream for dessert. It was delicious and fun. You get to watch the sushi chef in the middle make the sushi for the boats. We arrived at 6:10 but the restaurant was already full. We went on the waitlist, took a nice walk around the area and received a text that our seats were ready after about 45 minutes. This was acceptable to us as when we went on the waitlist I asked how long it would be and they quoted me 45 minutes. We took a nice romantic walk while we waited. Prices Range between $2 to $9. Here are some useful info : 1. You can find the price/color legend on the wall to your left when you enter. 2. They do not take reservations so you have to just show up. Sometimes there is a line to get in outside so make sure your not. starving. Which leads to you being "hangry". 3. I absolutely love this place!! I've been able to come a couple of times and it's pretty complicated, but SO WORTH IT! When I've gone, I tried to get there about 30-45 prior to opening and get in line. There has always been a line already when I go but not super packed. Otherwise, the waiting system is super complicated and you may or may not get a call back. This way is just easier. But OMG the food is sooo good and fresher than any other sushi place I've been to. The pricing is also very reasonable. It's pretty small and crammed but it's just such a gem in Miami. The absolute best sushi I've ever had. Service was amazing even though they were quite busy, they tried to serve us quickly and safely. Our server was busy but kindly explained that they were getting used to serving per table instead of on a conveyer belt, as they usually do. All of the sashimi and nigiri was so delicious and fresh. The wasabi was also authentic and strong - perfect for the fish. The sushi chef was amazing and very fast despite juggling so many orders. In terms of covid regulations, they are quite cramped and busy, but they did give out hand sanitizer at the beginning of the meal and made sure to attend to each table individually (no conveyer belt, which they're known for). The chef had gloves on and they everyone wore masks. Seating, as usual, was first come, first served (no reservations). Even though it was a weeknight, they got really busy around 7:30pm. I absolutely adore Katana and it's been my favorite sushi to date in Miami. It's a very intimate experience for those dining as you're seated next to everyone around you. We came for Valentine's Day and expected a wait so arrived at 5PM when they open at 6PM and there was already some people in front of us. The line quickly started forming and by 5:30 it was a huge line and some people weren't able to be seated and had to wait 30+ minutes. The restaurant is REALLY small which I think adds to the charm. We got the best seat in house right in front of the sushi chef just single handly pumping out rolls. I would recommend ordering a la carte as well as grabbing from the boats since it takes a while for the chef to switch up the selection that floats around. We only got from the boats this time and w everything was SO FRESH. Apparently we had never had good sushi until this moment. Our tongues just cut the fish right open and it melted in your mouth. No pictures taken because we absolutely devoured everything the second we grabbed it. We left really full and had a mix of cheap plates + some expensive selections and only paid $80. Our 5 year anniversary is this weekend and of course my boyfriend said we gotta make the drive back to Katana he says it's the most special restaurant he's been to in Miami. 100/5 stars if I could! read more

All items are made fresh in front of you and you can order off the menu if you don't see the ones you like or wanna try new one's. My favorite are the salmon and tuna sashimi and rainbow roll with crab salad. You have to take a numbered ticket of the wall and give it to the hostess so they can write your phone number down and put you on the waiting list.
