The place was very nice, but also simple. The fish was fresh. I would recommend escolar. I wanted to see if this place was as good as they claim. I did run out of wasabi, and they use a medium grain rice, not the short grain sushi rice. That aside, the place was good. The waiter Jose was really friendly and helpful. I would recommend.

After sitting at a table of meat eaters, it was my turn to eat. I placed a ToGo order via Yelp making it a quick & easy process. Plus I got 15% cash back on my purchase. Not only was my order waiting on me, it was correct & the Manager asked if I needed anything else. A cozy Sushi spot offering a full bar, TV's a sidewalk view to people watch. In addition to the few friendly employees on shift, the prices were great, with my Salad & 8 piece Vegan Roll rounding up to $10 & food tasting pretty fresh & enjoyable. I'll be back to try the dine in aspect & see if I yield the same positive experience...don't doubt that I won't.

I went here at a late time in the night to satisfy a craving, and it did just that. The service was great and I liked how it's a small intimate setting where they make the sushi in front of you. If you're a sushi person like I am, you can tell the quality of fish wasn't as fresh as nobu or an omakase restaurant, however they have a large selection to choose from to satisfy a craving. The edamame was extremely salty (which I like), and the miso soup was a very good size. However the roll was overpriced for what it was (in my opinion).

Pretty good price for sushi in south beach! I dined here with one other on a Wednesday night, and we were able to sit down very quickly. Most of the seating here is bar space, so there was a large group that left because they wanted a table setting. The gyoza was awesome, with a spicy dipping sauce. We got two hand rolls and two rolls, which were pretty good for the price we paid (and we watched the friendly chef prepare them!) Service was fabulous - the waitress was social and very attentive, and got us everything we needed very quickly. I'd be curious to see what this place looks at at night, it's a decently priced quick sushi stop during the day!

Seaweed salad (did not finish) and 9 piece sashimi appetizer

This rating is for food taste and quality only. The seaweed salad is bad, tried it more than once to make sure. The sashimi fish is fresh but small portion for $18.

Amazing sushi! We saw this place while walking and decided to give it a try. The outside isn't very appealing but the inside is modern and has an open sushi bar. You can watch the chef prepare all your rolls so it's a great experience. Everything was fresh and the waiter was charming. Would go again.

Specifically asked for no shellfish in my Volcano Roll and ofcourse found octopus

I ordered salmon avocado roll they gave me tuna, also asked for Volcano Roll and specifically asked for no shellfish I opened my order and it was all completely wrong. When I called Nd wanted to get a refund it was the most complicated transaction. If you go here make sure to speak slow and triple check your food.

We were on vacation from LA for the weekend and got the craving for some sushi. Unfortunately yelp really missed with this spot, despite really positive reviews we really did not enjoy our food here. We had the lobster roll and the surf and turf roll both of which spectacularly underwhelmed us. They also charge you as if this were the only sushi spot in South Beach so get ready to shell out $20-30 per roll. The only reason for the 2 stars instead of one was because our server was really nice, but for real save yourself the time and go eat somewhere else. You'll end up over paying for sushi that really wouldn't be worth the hard earned dollars you spend on it.

Tasty rolls, great service, BUT the place is too small to have an antisocial chef! In fact the only seating is facing The chef... meh!

It was 9pm and they had an hour before closing but again, I just wanted a single espresso so I figured it was enough time. No greeting when we walked in. Barely a word spoken as we ordered. I saw they were about to serve my espresso in a paper cup and I asked for a ceramic cup since the paper changes the flavor. They said they couldn't do that because they were closing. There was still 45 minutes to go at this point but they said they'd rather refund me the $3+ dollars for the ounce of coffee. They ended just giving in. It took less than 5mins for us to eat the 4 small tarts and me to drink the espresso. They proceeded to get an attitude and mock me on the way out. None of the employees like their jobs or people. None of them want to be there. They are rude and disrespectful. I get it, its work. Ive been there. But I will not support or spend my money again in a place where everyone exudes "we hate you and this job". There's plenty of other options.

The white macadamia cookie was also mid but maybe a little better? I think the cookies are mid because they're meant to be eaten with ice cream? But if you're looking for a really good cookie, this is probably not the place. Perhaps the flavor would be OK in conjunction with the ice cream.

Since the shop was empty, it took several attempts to catch someone's attention when I was ready to order. Once I was being helped, I sampled a couple of flavors and decided that I couldn't go wrong with a scoop of Pots of Gold and Rainbows in a waffle cone. The staff is beyond friendly and attentive, often stopping by and not only checking on you but also to simply converse about your meal, opinions on the food, or chat about whatever you want to bring up. That is a level of personalness that just doesn't exist in most restaurants or even the service industry. The decor is soft and inviting; intimate; it has a soft, yellow lighting and the rest of the environment is meant to contrast the lighting. It's a nod to not only the owners' backgrounds and roots, but also to the old school fine dining environments. It set the stage perfectly for what was to come. The tasting menu is 10 dishes and is served in 4 courses (apps, small plates, entrees, dessert), served in a 3 plate course until dessert which is 1 dish. Each dish is unique in its own right, yet contrasts from the others so you don't get fatigue from a single flavor or style. For example, the app course that I had was a wahoo ceviche, a shrimp and green papaya salad, and an endive and sharp cheese salad (served in wrapped endive leaves). They all worked together, but offered vastly different textures and contrasting flavors while feeling like an orchestra working together in your mouth. This experience continued through the entrees and I cannot opine on the dessert (rum cake) because I took it to go because I was so full... which has never happened to me in a tasting menu before. Paya is not only worth consideration in a saturated market of fine dining in Miami, it is one that should be prioritized and experienced as an indulgence of senses and flavors. While it may seem expensive in a vacuum, it is 33-50% cheaper than a slew of other tasting menus in the city and offers more courses for that cheaper price.

I like that many of his ingredients are sourced locally at his farm where he trains his team on food quality. I think it does add something extra to the dishes. This is his new elevated Caribbean fusion cuisine, which I was excited to try and didn't disappoint. I went for the miami spice and ordered a few extra apps. Dim lit interior. Nice music soundtrack. Amazing menu. I enjoyed the roti starter as well as the scallop dish which had great presentation and flavors. The papaya salad was also a hit. For the miami spice starter I tried the ceviche which has great presentation and quite flavorful. As for the main, I got the fish in curry which was a table favorite! The rum cake was his signature dessert like in Mamey... however, unlike Mamey they didn't pour the sauce at the table and mine felt a little lacking something. I think the table pour was nicer and had a little more generous pour. Overall I'd recommend and return.
