Mango cake
Joelex D.

What a delicious bday treat! The cake was given to me by some friends and it was one of my favorite cakes so far! It had all the amazing flavors that I love. It was creamy, fluffy, and packed with mango flavor and pieces to enhance the experience. To top it all off it was placed in a beautifully decorated box that is fun to unravel to expose the crafted artistry of the pastry!

Kamalan is my go to bakery whenever I'm in Chinatown. I like their selection of pastries the best. The prices are affordable too! I love to get their danishes and pineapple cake. Their sweet pastries have just the right amount of sugar before they get too overwhelming... coming from someone who prefers savory pastries. I am also a fan of their cakes! The mango cake is my favorite... very visually appealing!

Pork floss bun

Got some of their pastries through Wee and wow, they did not disappoint. Arrived fresh and I love their pork floss bun. It has the right amount of cream inside the bun, well balance of creaminess, salty and sweet.

Fresh Mango Birthday Cake

I've loved baled goods at Kamalan previously, but never given a try with their birthday cakes. So glad I did yesterday! The bakery was so accommodating for me to order at 10 AM for a pickup at 1 PM. The pictures of the fresh mango cake caught my eyes, so I went with that as a 10" calke for a party of 15 people -- and that was a lot! I'd recommend going for 8" for 15 people the next time. The cake was good -- the mango was tart and sweet, so so fresh! The frosting is not too sweet either, which is a great Asian compliment! The only thing I would say as needs improvement is some layers of the sheet cake was dry on the outer edges, so maybe a little overbaked? Overall, I would order this again, and would love to try their Pandan Durian flavor!

Delicious fresh baked goods

Great service and delicious baked goods! We got there right when they opened and the staff walked us through all of the options! Would definitely come back. My favorite was the mango cream cheese bread and the bamboo charcoal taro soft bread.

This bakery has really good birthday cakes and other pastries, such as bread, cookies, pies, and cakes. This is the only place where I want to buy birthday cakes, because their birthday cakes taste so delicious and are just perfect. They have many choices of birthday cake styles and sizes. The service is alright. The staff lacks interpersonal communication skills, such as greeting customers, and they don't seem that friendly to customers. If you want a delicious pastry or birthday cake, then I would highly recommend this bakery for you.

One of my go to bakeries for cake on any occasion. Super easy to order by phone and pick up is a breeze. A plus for accepting credit cards. You cannot go wrong with the Pandan or Mango cake. The cake itself is light and airy and not overly sweet. The fruit is always fresh.

One of my Houston friends posted about this bakery on social media so I took note. This past weekend, we visited from San Antonio so I had to stop by to check it out. I bought some for my Dad, my husband and myself and some to share with neighbors and other family. I bought a custard bun, bacon cheese bun, pork sung bun, Danish BBQ bun, Danish coconut bun, several mango cream cheese, several coconut pineapple cake, small sausage bun and ham cheese bun. What I tried so far is so fresh and soft. There were other refrigerated items which I wished I could've brought home but next time. It's next to Jungle Cafe so go check it out!

Mango Sheet Cake

They have the best Mango Sheet Cake!!! My daughter celebrated her 15th birthday in one of the best Chinese Restaurant in Chinatown and her Aunt surprise her with these delicious and beautiful cake from these bakery. The cake looks so sweet and sugary but its actually not very sweet (which we love) and they used fresh slices of mangoes to decorate on top of cake.It was a hint and definitely coming back for more!!!

Kamalan Bakery was operating during CoVid19 lockdown back in June 2020. So many signs posted on the windows.

Kudos to 葛瑪蘭面包坊 Kamalan Bakery for moving from Welfresh Supermarket in Sugar Land as a in-house bakery to independent restaurant in Houston Chinatown over 5 years ago. Since it moved to near my house, I get to eat more freshly baked breads with creative ingredients. There are plenty of parking at Dun Huang Plaza. I normal park in the garage and walk pass to Chase Bank to get some cash first. Then stop in for breads. I don't really have favorites when it comes to Taiwanese bread and pastry. I missed breads from Olympic Chinese Bakery, though. Kalaman Bakery is the best alternative. Others like 85C and Six Ping Bakery just can't compete.

How many years has TFB been bookmarked?! Tooooo long…read more But good fortune popped up in Pearland as I was returning home from work and I just had to stop by! There was no line too?! I made a bee line to get my funnel cake before the word spread that TFB was in Pearland! I went to my IG just to see what their times would be for the pop up. First post I see is that they have a featured flavor- the cookie butter funnel cake. With Biscoff cookies and pieces of cheesecake interlingled within... Yall, I'm not a big sweets person and I only bought the large to support the biz, but that dang funnel cake is no more! Gone. Disappeared. Now, not all at once. That would be crazy, but a few bites when I first got it...a few more hours later...a few more today and yeah its gone. It tasted just as good the next day too, so well worth the money for not only the portion size but the creativity. I never would have thought to put Biscoffs on a funnel cake....so glad somebody did! The food truck is very efficient as well. You place your order and they give you a buzzer. They were willing to bring the funnel cake to me but I had parked at a distance anticipating that more people would be showing up soon so didn't want to get blocked in. Very courteous people and the funnel cake - the BEST I EVER HAD. Hands dooooown! If you're looking to satisfy your sweet tooth, follow them on IG and enjoy satisfying that sweet tooth!

My go-to is their Mango Pomelo Sago, which you can also get the jumbo size. For two people, I'd recommend the standard size - that's usually enough, especially if you've already eaten a meal and this is your dessert. The taste of this alone is worthy of a 5-star review for Hui Lau Shan. I think the combination of pomelo and sago with the mango and ice cream really goes together deliciously well. But hey, there's more! I was introduced to their mango mochi, which comes in easy-to-take-home packaging. So it's quite easy to eat the Mango Pomelo Sago on site while bringing more yummy dessert home for snacking on later. It's utterly delicious. Service is fast. This location is in the poppin' Dun Hwang Plaza of Bellaire Chinatown, so if it's hard to find parking in the lot, use the parking complexes - it so happens that Hui Lau Shan's location is really close to one of the Dun Hwang parking complexes, making things really convenient. Yay! So yes if you like mango, boom, this place is certainly a place well worth going to. Enjoy!

She told me to go to the bakers son and make sure I go early because they do sale out and people buy in bulk. I entered with intentions of only getting the ube bread but $40 and 5 items later I went slightly overboard. They have so many items and they all look delicious. The customer service was great and prices were really good. Now to the items, the ube bread is phenomenal, soft, sweet, flavorful 10/10. Since we were already in the area after breakfast at TJ's Filipino Cuisine, we finally got the chance to stop by and try their baked goods for ourselves. We arrived early, so the bakery wasn't too busy yet. The bakers were busy prepping more goodies in the back while my cousin and I browsed all the Filipino baked goods we really miss from back home in the Philippines. They even had suman, sapin-sapin, biko, and other kakanin, which was nice to see. I specifically looked for the chicken empanada, and my cousin wanted to try the ube white chocolate chip cookie. We also saw different kinds of siopao and planned to come back later to buy some before heading back to San Antonio. We tried the ube white chocolate chip cookie first, but honestly we weren't totally satisfied. It tasted more like a regular white chocolate chip cookie with purple coloring and didn't really have much ube flavor. I also tried the chicken empanada. My cousin didn't like it because it was sweeter than expected--we were both expecting it to be savory. There seemed to be caramelized sugar in the outside of the pastry, which probably added to the sweetness. I still like it, though it was definitely sweeter than what I'm used to. Red Ribbon's chicken empanada is still my favorite. Later that day before leaving Houston, we came back for the siopao we planned to take home. We finally decided to just buy a couple pieces for ourselves, heat them up in the bakery, and try them fresh. When we saw the price for a four-pack, we were honestly disappointed. It felt expensive for the size. The siopao wasn't huge, and while I like the dough, there wasn't much chicken filling inside. For the portion, taste, and quality, it felt overpriced. Overall, it's probably not worth making another trip back for us. We did enjoy the cassava ube suman, and I like the chicken empanada, but not enough to drive all the way to Houston just for those. If I live nearby, I might come back to try other baked goods, but based on this visit, I'm not sure the rest would impress my palate. I still give them credit for cleanliness and customer service, although we did notice fruit flies on one of the shelves and reported it. The staff was friendly, and the bakery itself was welcoming. At the end of the day, since they're a bakery, the expectation is great-tasting, quality, mouthwatering Filipino breads, pastries ", and kakanin. While some items were enjoyable, overall it just didn't quite live up to the hype for us.
