Went to Six Ping in need of a "last minute" cake for Mother's Day. Emphasis on the "last minute" since it was the Friday before Mother's Day but I was heading out of town. This particular location was also offering a spend $30 on fruit tea/gelato and get 1 free fruit tea special at the time. They were kind to me that I didn't purchase any fruit tea or gelato but still offered 3 free drinks since I bought 2 cakes. The thing I always love about local businesses is their generosity and kindness. They are always so happy to serve you and truly make you feel special. As mentioned above, I ordered two cakes - the pandan durian and pandan. The presentation was absurd (in a good way). I admire cake designers and their dedication to their art and craft. The taste was just as good as the design. Look away durian haters, but durian and pandan can never go wrong. The fruits + durian + pandan + everything makes me want to go back to get a cake for just myself! Nonetheless, Six Ping will always hold a special place in my heart. This is the second location we've enjoyed. They have interesting shapes to some of their baked goods, pigs, lobsters, and turtles. They make some interesting flavors of ice cream/gelato and they give you a free sample, I enjoyed a sample of the avocado and my wife tried the taro. They also have durian. We were full from lunch or we would have gotten a couple of scoops. We'll be back to this location of Six Ping and we want to try a few other shops in this center, we've had coffee and a meal at couple other places and we'll be back soon. read more

Six Ping is an Asian bakery chain in Houston that my family and I have been frequenting for years. They have a variety of different baked goods ranging from sweet to savory My favorite is the pandan castella cake. It is super fluffy and sandwiched together by a thin layer of cream. I like their sweet pastries because it is always very light and not too overwhelmingly sweet. I also like their pineapple cames, which pairs well with hot tea. My family also orders the durian cake for special occasions, and it's delicious! Overall, I think Six Ping brings a lot of nostalgia and has a variety of goods for everyone to eat. read more

This is a small bakery located in the strip of Kim Son buffet on Bellaire, and their baked goods are airy and delicious. I have not tried much, but the ones I've eaten, I've enjoyed. My favorite desserts are the small chocolate bear cake and the slice of coconut panden cake. There is usually one cashier to assist customers, and sometimes I will get someone who is able to help me know what's inside certain baked items. Came in right before closing 5:40 pm so selection wasn't full but still got great goodies: pandan coconut bread, almond crispy cookies, pork and chive roll, Taiwanese egg tarts, pineapple cookie. Total for all of this was around $14 and some change. Almond crispy cookies come in a pack of 10, I would definitely get these again! Very crispy and packed with flavor but not overly heavy If that makes sense. The Taiwanese egg tarts are pretty tasty but I would most likely not get these again only bc I prefer egg tarts with a crunchier exterior, however they are very fluffy and filling so with just one your 'egg tart' craving is satisfied. The pineapple cookie is unique - very hard exterior with a super sweet pineapple filling. You can taste the pineapple chunks so that was a plus and the outside of the cookie wasn't too sweet so it was a good balance of flavor. The pandan coconut bread is the only item I would never get again. Compared to other coconut breads I've had this one was extremely dry and flavorless - could hardly taste the coconut and had only a few flakes. The dryness could be bc I got it at the end of the day but even then it was too dry and flavor lacking. read more

I was excited to learn about Six Ping opened its 4th store. This bakery is located in Saigon Plaza aka Kim Son Plaza, just right outside of Chinatown on the other side of beltway. I have been a fan of Six Ping since I moved to Houston. The art cakes are the biggest attraction, especially during the holidays. My co-workers always requesting me to bring it to the parties. The cake is fluffy, light and flavorful. The toppings are fresh and not as sweet. My favorite pastries are the Hong Kong rolls and cake rolls. The art cakes are so pretty and delicious. They are priced at $33 for a 8-inch cake, $45 for 10-inch cake and $59 for 12-inch cake. You get to choose from 4 cake flavors and up to 2 fillings. The presentation itself wins a lot of wows. It's amazing to know the history as you enjoy the food. According to their website, Six Ping established in 1989 at the Bellaire location, near Jusgo. As we have seen many businesses coming and going during the roadway construction. However, they managed to open 2 more locations: Beechnut (Viet Hoa) and Dun Huang Plaza. Located in the Kim Son plaza but there are already so many Six Pings in Chinatown like come on. This location doesn't have as much ready to-go cakes as the one in the Dun Huang Plaza. You can see a difference in the quantity of customers in both locations. This one is not as busy but they are fully stocked in their breads and pastries. I do like this location because it's the closest to where I live and the parking is easier to find. read more

I didn't realize there were two Six Ping locations so close to each other - this is the smaller and less crowded of the two. This one is in the shopping center with Kim Son, Bambu, and Zero Degrees, so parking is much more available. The other one is located in the really busy area with Tiger Den, Aqua S, Class 502, etc. As such, this location is a bit smaller and has fewer items available though they had all of the same mooncakes and a good amount of the same items as the other one when I visited the next day. read more

I order an Angry Bird cake for my son birthday party. The cake was kinda dry. I order vanilla cake with fruit cocktail in it. The only reason I order the cake here is because my son wanted an Angry Bird cake. Cake decoration was made perfectly. However, I was not impress with the cake. Breads used to be better. Food: They have a decent bread collection, but I always stick to red bean bread, custard bread, and taro bread so it doesn't really matter to me. The fillings are never too sweet and overpowering. Also, they don't overfill the bread so the ratio is just right! However, I've noticed that the breads do have a more dry texture than it did before. Environment: Pretty open for a small bakery. Service: It's a quick transaction which I love. They don't really say anything to you, but it doesn't bother me whatsoever because I'm not sitting and dining here. read more

This is my go to place for little pasties. They're mango moose is my favorite. The prices for the individual cakes range from 4-6 and their big birthday cakes are worth it. Definitely a spot to check out if you have a sweet tooth! read more

This place is a "must-visit" for me when I am in the area. My mother loves their breads & stuffed buns so I usually pick her up some. I usually end up buying a ton of stuff because it all looks so freakin' good! My niece got excited when she saw the hot-dog bread (apparently she got addicted to these in Japan) so I bought some with jalapenos. I must admit it was kinda strange & delicious! I love their melon buns & their pastries have the perfect amount of sweetness. The place is small, the staff not all warm & cuddly but efficient. I've been to a number of the other Six Pings around town and this is the only one that barely fills half their shelves. Definitely not as much selection. Normally the Asian breads are on par with Hawaiian rolls where they're soft, fluffy and lightly sweet. But the roll here was actually drier, dense, oddly yellow in color, and had a strange chemical smell. The cheese didn't even taste like cheese. And to top it all off, the boy who worked there was very unfriendly. Kept glaring at me for no reason and was very short with all his replies. Thought I had wandered into a Wrestlemania ring by mistake. He also put my cookies on the bottom and found them in pieces when I got home. I am only considering coming back just because my mom likes the durian cake. Hopefully I can find it elsewhere. read more

We came in for a quick visit after brunch this weekend. It was our first visit to this particular location. We usually frequent the Six Ping in the Viet Hoa shopping complex. Walking in, I felt a sense of deja vu. It was like walking into the other Six Ping location. The set-up was exactly the same albeit a tad bit smaller. They carry the same items as they do at the other location so it was easy to find what we liked. They've got their baked goods in one section, cakes in their display case and a small refrigerated section. This may be a small bakery but it carries enough options in baked goods to satisfy your cravings. They also have ready-made cakes that taste as good as they look. read more

It's a small bakery but they have all the baked goods you would find at the other Asian/Chinese influenced bakeries off Bellaire. It's clean and organized with labels in Chinese/ Vietnamese and English for all their baked goodies. I like getting the custard sweet bread as well as the pound cake like cakes they sell here. There is a $10 min for credit card purchases. I think everything is baked there if I am not mistaken. I think this place has a few locations in China town. The first one I've been to was near Don's cafe. The 2nd location is across from the 1st Banana leaf restaurant closer to Corporate and Bellaire. This shopping strip gets extremely busy so the parking can be a pain in the bottom! read more

I consider this the better of the six ping bakeries in Chinatown. The other ones are more Chinese-oriented and have more variety but the taste and smell is more funky for some reason.
