Yen Huong Bakery 燕香餅家 has been on my bookmark since covid pandemic. I found it during the Mid Autumn Festival at Viet Hoa Supermarket in SW Chinatown. I bought a box of moon cakes and noticing the address.
I finally came to the actual bakery in EaDo area near the former Chinatown from the 80's. I got here around 5, but the door was closed. By standing at the parking lot, I smelled the aroma of the sweet baking. I said to myself I've gotta get something. I hate to go home empty handed.
I walked to the delivery entrance on Dallas Street and asked someone who was walking out (I think he was a distributor.) He said they were still open. I felt awkward to walk from the back door.
The employees were very friendly. I guess customers come through the kitchen often. They didn't say anything except directed me to go to the front.
I talked to a lady who spoke little Mandarin but fluent in Cantonese and Vietnamese. She helped me with the freshly baked moon cakes before she took a sales call. Then, a young lady took the order. I bought one of each from the bakery racks. Total $10 for 3 moon cakes. Yeah. I'll pay more if they asked for it. I never had freshly baked moon cakes before. I always buy them at supermarkets that were made overseas.
The aroma filled my car. When I got home, I started to indulge them. Mmm... tasted so amazing. Yeah. Buy locally made food, y'all. read more
