Why can't we give half stars yet? This place is a solid 4.5. The venue is rather small and the grits were way too creamy for me but besides that I really enjoyed it. The food was great. My daughter and I went to Just Spoons Cafe for lunch for the first time. The people were friendly and I liked the slogan that "we are all cousins" when we dine there. : ) The manager was amazing. He greeted us at the beginning and informed us that it is a one-hour experience, but promised that the food comes quickly. And it did! We observed that the place was being run very efficiently with even the manager helping out from time to time. I had grits with cheese and fried catfish and scrambled eggs. Overall it was a delicious meal. The grits were hot, the catfish was very hot, but the scrambled eggs were just warm and parts were cool. My daughter enjoyed all of her meal. The biscuit and croissant we got at the beginning of the meal were phenomenal! When we were ready to pay the bill, our waitress read out each charge we incurred on her little hand-held billing device, which we thought was very nice. She then informed us that a 20% charge was added to our bill, and went on to explain that that is for all the staff, not just her. She said that I will have an opportunity to give her even more "tip" on the next screen as she held the device in her hand waiting for me to select an additional tip for her. I told her that I felt very pressured into giving her more money (with her standing over me watching). She still stood there showing me the screen where I am now prompted to give additional tip of 18% and HIGHER on my bill that was $110 of which 20% was already taken out as a surcharge. I felt pressured and uncomfortable. I am used to restaurants automatically charging a high gratuity for large parties, but not for two people sitting on stools (no table). I passed the machine to my daughter who unhesitatingly selected No Tip. The 20% we already paid is enough; and they may continue to call it what they may. The stuffed salmon & grits had a really uncared for taste. We spoke with our server (Meme) who was great) she spoke with the front house manager (JOE) who stated, I understand but my hands are tied." The stuffed salmon bowl was UNTOUCHED!!!!!! Unfortunately they were not able to accommodate us with another option. That was HIGHLY DISAPPOINTING..... Visited Just Spoons for lunch after reading about it online. The decor is very 1920's, very dark and cozy. We were greeted at the door and shown to our table and given menus. I selected the chicken sandwich and my partner selected the whole fish. I was warned that the chicken sandwich is spicy, but I like a little heat so I said that was fine. While we were waiting, the waitress brought us a complimentary honey butter, croissant and a honey butter biscuit. My partner liked the croissant so much he ordered another one. The music was very loud l, especially considering the size of the restaurant, but was told they were unable to adjust the volume. After a while, the food came out and the presentation was very nice. I took a bite of my sandwich and they are not joking about the heat. It was so hot spice wise, I could not even eat two bites. I also finished my drink very quickly and it was not refilled, so I sat there with a burning mouth for a long time until I got a refill. My partner enjoyed the fish and sadly, I just sat there and watched him eat. I must say, the potato wedges are delicious. Towards the end of the meal, I went to the restroom and the floor inside and in the hallway were so slippery I almost slipped 3 times, so I let the waitress know. Gratuity is included in the bill and the waitress told us multiple times that they split tips with everyone and extra is appreciated. The bill was $146 after tax, tip, and extra tip, pretty pricey for lunch, in my opinion, but YOLO! I did take my sandwich home and rinsed it off and reheated it in the airfryer. This place is a 10 out of 10 for me. You normally need to place a reservation. But it just so happens that someone cancel their reservation and they made accommodations for us to sit. The food was so tasty. It wasn't salty. The waitress made some good recommendation which I love. I don't eat meat, so I'm glad that they had pescatarian options. Luckily, we were second in line and were seated within 5 minutes. The waiter who served us was very friendly and attentive as was every other staff member we encountered. There is a 1hr time limit on tables and that made me nervous at first but everything from food to drinks came out so quickly it wasn't an issue. We both ordered French toast but I opted for their "Butta Pecan" while my boyfriend went with "Vanilla Bean" and neither disappointed. I was also apprehensive about French toast costing $26 but when I saw my plate piled with four big pieces of chicken breast I was shocked. The pork chops were incredibly tender and juicy, and the grits--wow--some of the best I've had in Florida. Typically, Florida grits don't impress me; they're often bland or just not quite right. I travel a lot to places like Atlanta and Houston, and I can confidently say the creamy grits here could compete with the best. The eggs were fluffy and well-cooked, but honestly, I'd return just for the grits. As for the mimosas, they were pretty good. I go to brunch spots often, and mimosas can get a bit boring, but these had a unique twist that made them a must-try. If you're a lychee lover like me, I highly recommend the lychee mimosas!
