Fried tofu bun with French fries
    Cheryl W.

When I chose this establishment it was from a recommendation. Unfortunately, I was not impressed with the food. The Korean fried chicken lacked flavor, the shrimp fried rice was just ok, and the French fries were tasteless and did not belong with my tofu pork buns. However, the fried shrimp were perfect. Service was good and the setting was very pleasant. I was really hoping for better.

It was a lovely outdoor dining experience. They have a nice dining space on the North lawn of the Domain and we were seated promptly. The food came out quite fast and some of the dishes that were most enjoyed were the truffle chicken potsticker, the lobster taco and the Korean Spicy chicken. The lemon tart for dessert was bright and tart in the very best way. It was my favorite bite of the night and I'm not even a dessert person! We only ordered small plates because that was the vibe we were going for during our meal but they also have entrees listed (we will try next time). They have a nice variety of bar drinks and the whole experience felt relaxed, not rushed, and just lovely. The restaurants around the seemed loud and chaotic but Joi was chill and relaxed. I'd come back for the ambience alone. The service was great. We had a few different people come to our table and they were all excellent. This is a great addition to the Domain. It's right next to Paul Martins, in front of the lawn by the red heart and across from the Apple Store.

Food was good, flavorful and served hot, nothing to rave about but it was not bad. I'd probably rank it a solid 6.5/10. The service was solid as well, not bad but not exceptional. The restaurant is very nice on the inside, lots of seating. Would I go again, yes. Is it at the top of my list for Asian cuisine? No. I've been blessed to have been to some amazing restaurants, this was clearly a good and solid restaurant.

    Strawberry tuna roll, hamachi crudo

The restaurant was pretty empty when my friends and I got there. I ordered a passionfruit prescription cocktail, which was tasty. For an appetizer I had the hamachi crudo. The fish was fresh. I had the strawberry and tuna roll for my entree. It wasn't very spicy but I enjoyed the spicy salmon and the strawberry with the wasabi aioli. It was my friend's birthday and the waitress offered her a free shot, which was nice. However, the waitress couldn't split our bill so we all had to write down different numbers next to what we ordered so she could separate the checks.

Went here for happy hour bites and also to try some of their main entree items. So on the day I was there, they had the whole main dinner booked out so everyone else had to be seated in the patio area. That was fine, however I wanted to order some dishes off the main menu and I was told that nothing was available. Wow! Not sure if that was because of the event going on in the restaurant. So we pretty much ordered everything off the happy hour menu. The items were decent for the prices, but they did take a while to come out. Also everyone in my party of 4 ordered a shrimp tempura roll but only 2 of them had that extra orange colored sauce as decor and for taste on the plate. Wish things could have been a little better.

It's more like a 2 star but the prices are not too bad and the vibes were on point. So 3 it is. We stopped by this place for drinks and an early dinner on a lovely Sunday afternoon of shopping. The place has a beautiful interior and a wonderful outdoor patio. The drinks are nice but the food was simply not good. I'm sad because the menu has so many delicious sounding items which makes me think this place has so much potential. The chicken truffle dumplings ($12) were probably the driest most bland dumplings I've ever had. They were slathered in a strange sticky sweet sauce. The calamari ($14) was fried nicely but also had no flavor. The Hiramo sushi roll ($21) was also slaughtered in sticky sweet sauces. You could tell that the fish was not very high-quality, the tuna crudo ($19) was chewy and stringy too. My friend also mentioned that the chicken ramen ($18) lacked flavor. The staff are very polite.

Sunny day, beautiful weather, and a great time for some Asian infusion and a cocktail. It all paired out perfectly for a small outing at the Domain. I got the Taiwanese popcorn chicken, which was all very flavourful and tasty. What a great location to have a joyful Sunday afternoon. Next time I'll come for lunch or dinner and try more things of the menu. So far, it got me curious enough to come back.

JOI Asian Bistro was an absolute delight to dine at. At first glance it's a beautiful restaurant with many different seating options catered to how outdoors you would like to be. The checkin process with our reservation was smooth and so was the ordering process. The food was absolutely amazing. We ordered the wagyu beef sliders, braised short ribs, xiao long bao, and pork sabaro ramen. The sliders were great and so were the fries that came alongside it. They could've used less vegetables on it so help focus on the beef flavor but it was still good. The xiao long bao was pretty good as well, not as good as it would be at a dedicated dumpling spot but still above what we expected. The best part of the meal was the braised short rib. It was cooked to perfection and was extremely tender and juicy, just phenomenal. Unfortunately the biggest letdown was the ramen. The toppings were fine but the broth itself had zero flavor, almost like it was regular packaged ramen broth. Outside of the food the staff were great. They got us our orders quick and were incredibly receptive. We ordered a few drinks as well while we were there: the Japanese old fashioned, pineapple inferno, and lychee harmony. All of us liked the flavor of our drinks, although they were stronger than expected. Cumulatively, JOI is a fun and very good restaurant in The Domain. We were pleasantly surprised by the food although if you are searching for Asian food specifically then this would not be your best bet.

Came across this restaurant as I was looking for a spot for an afternoon cocktail and light bites. The place is elegant with a relaxing and chill atmosphere. The host and servers were welcoming and immediately accommodated me. They have a few interesting choices of drinks and cocktails and varieties of sushi, sashimi, bowls and just abt everything. I elected for my lychee martini and a couple of sushi rolls. I also didn't wait to be serve my drink and rolls. My drink was tasty and made right. The sushi rolls tasted fresh and delicious. I enjoyed my time alone and will definitely be returning to this spot again in the future.

Dining at Joi offers a mix experiences for a vegetarian! The restaurant's modern décor and lively atmosphere create a pleasant backdrop for a meal. However, while the ambiance is inviting, the overall dining experience can feel hit-or-miss, especially for those with specific vegetarian preferences. To start, we tried the vegetable tempura which was Ok. Tried 2 of their Vegan and Veggie Sushi which was kind of disappointing for me! For the main courses, I requested them make me a Veggie noodle and add some extra veggies ! I would say I loved the thin noodles ! Decided to skip the desserts ! Overall service was good ! Love the location as you can also opt to sit outside in the patio if the weather is good ! (Definitely not during Texas summers) Overall, this place offers a decent experience but with room for improvement. For vegetarians seeking a standout meal, it may be worth exploring other options in Domain !

The outdoor seating is under utilized. It's such a great vibe for getting work done or the perfect lunch meeting. We had bento boxes that have to be the best in town. Fresh chicken and salmon as the mains with all the fixings of the traditional bento. Make time and check them out.

    Brussel Sprouts

Came here on a Friday night because we were going to try a different restaurant in the domain but the line was too long. There was no wait which was awesome. Overall, the ambiance of the restaurant is great. There is both indoor and outdoor seating. Moving on to the service. It seemed like they had enough people working but we waited so long for everything. From taking our orders to getting our food, our experience was extended from what should've been a one hour stay to closer to two hours. For the food, we ordered the brussel sprouts which was the highlight. It was cooked very well and the sauce on top tasted great. Also ordered the calamari and the chicken ramen, which I wouldn't necessarily recommend. I probably won't come back to visit again. :(

Can someone clarify the vegan menu items? tempura sushi is labeled vegan, or spicy mayo is on the vegan menu.

Virtually NO vegan items. This isn't a vegetarian-friendly restaurant in general. Good sushi though.

No happy hour as of yet. Blue Sushi down the street does however

They bring out the meat and noodles separately and then the soup in the stone bowl. This time the asked me if I wanted all the greens-- lime wedges, basil leaves, jalapeño slices and bean sprouts. I never eat the bean spouts but use everything else and it always seems a waste of bean sprouts when I don't use them so I was thankful to have them hold the bean sprouts. Be careful as the soup is extremely hot and the hot stone bowl keeps it that way for a while. You fill the bowl to the brim after adding all the meats and noodles. My only complaint is the noodles. They are fresh and just the right texture... very good! But for some reason the always seem to get cut up after I put them into the bowl. Not sure if they cut them before hand but they end up cut short when put them in the bowI. I prefer long slurpy noodles over cut noodles that's hard to pick up with chopsticks. Overall I still give it 5 stars and this one of the two best pho spots in the greater Austin area

We've driven by it a few times so we decided to stop by and try Nepalese food for the first time. We ordered the chicken steamed momos and vegetable spring rolls. Unfortunately the food was worse than we had hoped. The chicken steamed moms are okay. The dumpling itself was a bit chewy and the filling was tasty and well seasoned. The real disappointment was the spring rolls though. The spring rolls were so ridiculously overcooked, they were practically brown. They were very hard, although the filling wasn't awful. The whole order was just very mediocre which is unfortunate because we had high hopes. Honestly, we'll probably give this place another try. Making dumplings or spring rolls isn't easy and we live close enough where it's worth another shot. Chef Ling is a brilliant and personable chef who treats her chefs and staff like family. Several different chefs prepared each course, and the presentation was well beyond what we expected, both visually stunning and thoughtfully composed. From the moment we walked into Ling Kitchen, the energy felt warm and intentional. The space is intimate without feeling cramped, and you immediately sense that you are about to be part of something special rather than just another dinner reservation. Chef Ling personally welcomed guests, shared the story behind the menu, and checked in throughout the evening in a way that felt genuine and never forced. Each course built on the last, with a clear progression of flavors and textures. The fish was impeccably fresh, the knife work precise, and the seasoning balanced to highlight the natural ingredients rather than overpower them. You could see the coordination among the team as different chefs stepped forward to prepare and present their dishes. It truly felt collaborative, like a small culinary orchestra. What stood out most was the creativity. Traditional techniques were honored, but there were subtle twists and unexpected combinations that kept us curious and engaged. Every plate was composed like art. The pacing was perfect, allowing time to savor each bite and appreciate the craftsmanship. Beyond the food, the hospitality elevated the entire experience. The staff was knowledgeable, attentive, and clearly proud to be part of the team. That family atmosphere Chef Ling fosters is palpable and makes the evening feel personal. If you are in Austin and looking for a memorable omakase that rivals experiences in much larger food cities, Ling Kitchen is a must. This is not just dinner, it is a curated, immersive experience. We will absolutely be back. Thank you Ling!!! You are truly one of a kind!

Chinese fine dining with a memorable, unique hospitality experience that will truly blow anything…read moreelse you've had out of the water. I saved Ling Kitchen for a recent visit to Austin, reuniting with my college roommate. She has been before; I hadn't, but we both enjoy memorable meals and she said this was sure to please; it did not disappoint. I eat at fine dining around the world and I appreciate that Ling Kitchen is truly trying to carve their own path, not trying to fit a specific mold. It was refreshing and so welcome. You enter through the back of the kitchen (where the private parking lot is) and are taken to a prep area where you'll select drinks and have opening bites. You get a selection of champagne or a non-alcoholic option to start and get your first taste of the food (charcuterie on a rice cracker, yum). They have a decent wine and sake menu, but everything is by the bottle, so beware if you're a light drinker. We opted for a bottle of sake that was just the right amount for two to share for a 3-hour meal. The actual meal takes place in the kitchen itself, alongside the prep of the chefs working it. It's such a unique ambiance and different to the "open kitchen" setup I have done for other fine dining; you are truly in between the cold storage, the duck aging for future diners, etc. The low light & ambiance is beautifully arranged for a nice meal and they put all the special touches - down to LED camera lights for each diner so you can use to take photos of your food better! You can only make reservations in 2's or 4's for this spot and the table arrangement is really for diners to share a meal together. The food itself is extremely beautiful and so filling! I think this was the first time at a fine dining restaurant I literally could not finish all the food and had to make a few smart choices towards the end to have room to try it all! I think some dishes stood out more than others (the XO lobster tail, every single dessert, an eggplant dish they made to sub for the aged duck for me, and the king salmon with curry lahksa), and a few were aesthetically pleasing but otherwise lacked strong flavor (the dumplings, the steamed egg, a pan seared halibut that was a sub for wagyu). I thoroughly enjoyed the meal and more so enjoyed the storytelling and thoughtfulness of each dish and the overall service & hospitality experience. Chef Ling Qi Wu is introduces several dishes and is available to chat with guests throughout the meal. She noted the taro dish as one of her first dim sum items she had ever made and the salmon curry lakhsa as a home comfort dish for her. The desserts were themed around the four seasons - just so much thought put into the whole experience! They had the entire table introduce themselves and share what brought them there halfway through the meal and gave us the opportunity to walk around the kitchen, talk to chefs, try some elements used in later dishes like the fresh honey used in our desserts. They gave us a polaroid, branded chopsticks and a clean menu to commemorate the experience. Ling Kitchen is truly more than a fancy restaurant; it's a whole memorable dining experience, and I hope to return for a future special visit one day!
