So disappointed in this establishment. We had a group of 6 and went to celebrate a HUGE Special Birthday & it went very poorly. We ordered dinner and had to wait over an hour for any food we were starving and no one let us know what was going on. Then dinner comes and my fiancé's chicken was RAW!!Are you seriously kidding me?! It was clear inside beyond disgusting! I'm not a classically trained chef but I have never and would never serve anyone something uncooked, raw and basically food that could make amens very ill. He had a horrible 24 flight mishap and we were telling him that at lest he'd have a decent food meal and it was horrible. No one came by so I literally grabbed the plate myself and took it over to the kitchen and said this is raw! I saw and heard the cool throw down another chicken breast. I'm we can all SEE you the kitchen was 5 feet from our table. So unexpected and unprofessional. I've never gotten raw food and then had someone who prepared or get mad about it being sent back. I told the manager(female brown hair) on duty @ the issue. Her response was "Yea I know and we are making him a new one" what?! You're giving Me attitude wow! The only reason I didn't tell everyone to just get up and leave was because we all flew across the country and were exhausted and it was my mother's bday. Then they thought by giving us some avocado toast and dessert that would fix it and it didn't. My meal was tasteless (shrimp tacos had maybe 2 shrimp and no flavor) so we were starving afterwards but by the it was too late. Just overall very negative experience and left a very bad taste in our mouths. read more

Good was delicious, but customer service was lacking. Even though we made a reservation, we had to wait about 25 minutes to actually be seated. The food was delicious; the shrimp ceviche was amazing, although the shrimp could have been cut in smaller pieces, and the fish and chips was good as well. Unfortunately, the waitress only checked up on us once after dinner was served and I had to search the restaurant for her to order another drink. Overall, the experience was nice, although a bit frustrating at times due to the bad customer service. read more

Johnny's is right around the corner from my office and always provides a really fun, relaxed place to go to for lunch or after-work cocktails. The food is always delicious and the service and hospitality are also wonderful and welcoming. Johnny's has been on the "to try" list since it opened, even though the reviews have been decidedly mixed. We're big fans of the Wolf/Foreman group of restaurants, enjoying Petit Louis and Charleston immensely. K and I went K's plate: house coffee; bowl of tortilla soup R's plate: iced coffee; two shrimp spring rolls; maple baked salmon salad over sauté of edamame, bok choy, green apple, garlic, Thai chili We both found the coffee to be bitter. I thought mine was interestingly weak bodied, for how bitter it was, and drank barely a third of it. K finished hers, though gave it mediocre ratings. The soup was oily, but good. Not up to Foreman/Wolf fantastic standards, but decent. The spring rolls were small (as noted in many other reviews) and lukewarm, and the "sweet chile ginger sauce" was practically flavorless. They're very thick wrappers, with a little bit of shrimp filling and some unidentifiable vegetable content as well. The salmon was nicely cooked, and a large portion, but didn't taste like maple or Thai chili - it didn't really have much flavor at all. I would've loved some fresh pepper, or if I'd taken it home to eat, likely added some of Artifact Coffee's fish pepper hot sauce. The apples were a nice addition, though their sweetness would've been more appreciated if there had been heat to stand up against. Service was fine, unremarkable but not as friendly as we're used to elsewhere at similarly-priced places (Stone Mill, Artifact, etc.). I'm not sure if we'll go back - there are places with food that's exciting and delicious and makes us look forward to eating it - and good coffee. We'd be more likely to do one of the following: pay a little more and go to Petit Louis, or pay a little less and go to Atwater's, or pay the same and go to Stone Mill or Artifact. read more

Johnny's is a very nice restaurant, it is located in Roland Park so unless you live in that area it can be an oversight. Anyhow, i live close by so i decided to give it a shot. Ordered a couple of appetizers the lamb empanadas and the shrimp spring rolls. The shrimp spring rolls reminded me of the ones in Ghana, meaning they were awesome. The empanadas to were great. Price point wise for what u get its small but quality is great. I ordered a grape juice 5.50, pricey and i am sure it didnt come with refills. (Didn't bother asking) Meal: I ordered the burger- it really wasn't good, it was ok. Too salty, i am not a fun with over salted anything. The fat fries were good. A friend ordered a vegetarian quesadilla and enjoyed it. Dessert: Ordered a vanilla bean milk shake- not good at all.. too watery and less creamy for what i paid $6.50, i nearly threw it away, then i remembered how much i paid for it. Service: I doubt if i ever review service but our initial waiter was MIA most of the time, i dont know if he was about to change shifts, but service was slow and spotty at times. All in all, i will go there again to try their brunch and a dinner plate. So will review accordingly. read more

I thought long and hard if this is a 3 or a 4 star place and decided that it was actually a 3.75 stars. As always, food is what I'm reviewing. It's good, some of it is very good with a potential to be excellent. So here we go: Tacos, especially pork are very good - how can they make it great - make sure that they are not cold when brought out of the kitchen. Egg rolls - hmmm.... too bland and when dipped into the sauce they are too salty... not the biggest fan of those. Tomato bisque - very good. The acidity in this dish is on the higher end of the spectrum, so it could use a touch of honey, which would make it great. Burgers - on the smaller side but good! Must be ordered rare, otherwise it will be overcooked. Fries - so-so. Need to be crispier. The service is really friendly, albeit slow. Will go there again. read more

Came here for the first time while visiting from LA. Never expected to have so much good food and lovely service. This place knocked it out of the park. Zoe was the greatest server. Thoughtful decor suggested thoughtfully presented and prepared food. Mixed experience within the same weekend -- one dinner and one breakfast. The weird plating of individual components reared its head for me as well. Ordered meatloaf with mac and cheese for dinner and received a plate of meatloaf and a plate of mac and cheese. There was no effort to marry the two. Meatloaf was more of a Salisbury steak -- drab brown flat paddy with dull drab brown gravy. Not the luscious thing I envisioned after reading the description. Mac and cheese did not have bechamel base -- more of a cheese flavored pasta. Spring rolls for starters seemed like something you get frozen from grocery store. Chocolate cake with ice cream and whipped cream came, once again, on three separate plates, so I share the bewilderment of other reviewers. Server was unenthusiastic and ill-informed because management and cooking staff had not arranged for staff tastings of daily specials. Returned for breakfast and it was a whole different experience. Wait staff was informed and enthusiastic. Tried Pacific-influenced rice and fried egg combo -- which came thankfully in one bowl. Beautiful cappuccino and peach crumb cake were among the best I ever had. Do not recommend for dinner, other than a place to meet for drinks. read more

Three of us had brunch on a Saturday and enjoy our day. It reflected the quality in most items of the Cindy Wolf and Tony Foreman that you expect. The only item that was lacking was the Chicken Tortellini Soup that I started with. Then came the Smoked Salmon it had finely chopped red onions, eggs, chives, capers and crème fresh vs cream cheese and it made the dish. I would eat the Salmon everyday if I lived closer. The other diners had cheeseburgers and cooked perfect with tons on extra items including an egg. Just kept raving about how good they were and liked that you could order other items as sides vs French Fries. I want to like this place, since I live a few blocks away. The idea, menu, and atmosphere are great. I'm usually loving the experience, before the food arrives. But after ~5 visits in the last year, it always ends the same--disappointed with the food and always left with the feeling that I got really poor value for my money. Today was a $80 check for brunch for two adults and two kids. Kids meals are pathetic--the hamburger was a small peice of burnt meat on a plain bun (nothing else). The "fruit" that came with it was an apple slices cut into tiny pieces. No fruit salad. Kids salmon was maybe two adult bites of fish for $10. I don't think we'll ever order off kids menu again--they are really sad plates that come out. Protip: order adult item and split it between two kids. My wife got the crab egg Benedict, which is egg Benedict plus $6 extra to substitute one bite of tasteless crab for the bacon that comes on the normal Benny. For some reason they brought out chocolate bread and milk before the meal, so my kids, after demolishing basically milk and cookies, weren't that hungry for their entrees. That's a nice complimentary thing, but maybe ask the parents first, and probably better to bring after you try to get your kids to eat healthier food first? Like I said--i want to like Johnny's and keep coming back because it's just so convenient and a cool downstairs environment. But dang, everytime I walk out thinking that food, given the mediocre quality, was just not worth the price. I'll probably forget the feeling and be back for another chance in April. A recent visit to Johnny's confirmed my view that North Baltimore needs more restaurants (that aren't in Hampden). We made our way to Johnny's on a weekend through the cold steady rain for lunch. I questioned the need for reservations but when we arrived, I was glad that reservations had been made. Place was packed! Still we had to wait. Hostess said we had to wait for our table which was okay. A server came by later to ask if we'd been helped. Our exchange with this server was abrupt and strange - suffice to say that I don't think she was having a good shift. I've been to Johnny's several times over the years and each time, I'm left thinking that I have ordered incorrectly - left alone with my mistakes. This time was no different as I opted for the BLT which came with fries. Bread and bacon were delicious but nowhere near enough bacon. Maybe they were running low on bacon but there was like a single strip of bacon. Here's the thing - for convenience sake, I know I'll return to Johnny's but I need some help with that menu. read more

I love Johnny's for their pastries. When I stopped traveling to Columbia regularly, I also stopped my regular visits to Le Comptoir for tea cakes and a cappuccino. Thankfully Johnny's is just around the corner from my home to fill the void. (Plus, they offer a fabulous little deal of an espresso drink and pastry for only $5 to help make your morning commute a bit more manageable!) Our recent brunch experience here though was just meh. We ordered the bakers plate that consisted of a carrot muffin, bacon biscuit, citrus tea cake, berry crumble tea cake and pineapple preserves. Honestly, this was the highlight of the meal. I ordered the breakfast burrito with chicken sausage, which was fine - nothing particularly notable. My husband ordered the chilaquiles. The tomatillo sauce was good but I almost think runny eggs would have made a far better top than scrambled ones. He also ordered a pineapple rosemary iced tea, which didn't seem well balanced in flavor. My cold brew coffee was fine but I was a bit grossed out when they brought over the little jug of creamer and the spout and insides were covered in a yellow crust of dried cream. Eek! When was the last time they properly washed those things? Overall, I think I'll continue to stick to just their tried and true baked goods and espresso drinks where the milk is poured directly from the carton into the steamer. read more

I knew my less than stellar experience was a one-off. Dinner with my family tonight couldn't have been better. The food was, of course, amazing. The service was spectacular! The Waverly Blonde beer was delicious! The cookie at the end was tremendous! And everyone complimenting our baby's adorableness and great behavior was a bonus. Johnny's food and staff - 5 stars. But a 2 star review for experience and nothing to do at all with Johnny's, but with an adjacent table's dinner conversation. When out to dinner, proper dinner conversation might include happenings about the day, sports, perhaps a good book or current events and such, but going into to detail about your personal gastro medical conditions with vivid detail and description about your bile duct does not pair well with an heirloom tomato salad. Speaking about projectile vomiting while another patron at the table next to you is trying to enjoy a delicious chopped salad is just inconsiderate. This conversation lasted all the way through our meal and into dessert! Suffice it to say, we couldn't finish our first or second courses due to loss of appetite. Aye! Table manners go a long way! 1. Very nice atmosphere! The place looks great, the food is good, and the staff is friendly! Here on yelp it says that it's a Mexican restaurant but that's not entirely correct. It's American contemporary food and some of the menu items have either a Mexican or Asian flair. I came here for brunch and it was great! The serving sizes are pretty small for the prices (a little pricey). Overall---- a great place for dates, family time, brunch, or a nice dinner! I recommend it highly. read more

I hosted an event for my nonprofit at Johnny's in Roland Park. It was a wonderful venue. Although the "Back back room" (the private room) is not ADA accessible, they put us in the Cafe. We were there on a Sunday from 3-5p. It was a great time to be there because there were few enough other patrons and sufficient other dining areas that the host (without being asked) stopped seating other parties in the Cafe, which was super nice of her. By the time the program started, we had the space to ourselves. They were willing to turn off the music in the room, so the program and Q&A went very well - everyone could hear and no one felt uncomfortable speaking about our sometimes delicate topic (death and dying). Our server Antoine was the best large-party server I've ever had. He was always available and never intrusive, even during the program portion, which is a VERY tricky balance. We also had a woman in a wheelchair show up after the table was already full and he did a wonderful job of ensuring she was seated in a place where she could comfortably hear and see the program. As the host, I didn't have time to eat any of the food, but Antoine made sure the appetizers came out in a timely way and refilled people's drinks with alacrity. The geographic location also got kudos from participants, though I am guessing that those who found it inconvenient just didn't come. read more

Came for Sunday brunch. The place was almost dead which I guess at 10am on a Sunday should have been a warning? It was just really not very good. I'll start with some positives. It's decked out in a beautiful way for Christmas and the interior is really cute and nice. The staff are all sweet and accommodating. They gave us yummy complimentary pumpkin bread that was honestly the best food we had there. I came with my small son and asked if there was a kids breakfast menu. Nope. We had the option to order eggs or a short stack of pancakes ($9 for 3 pancakes!!).I ordered him 2 eggs with a side of fruit. All the menu said was fruit, which at any other breakfast place ive been to my entire life, especially an upscale more expensive place, is a nice mixture of fruit with berries, etc. Nope it was just apple slices. We pointed out to the server that it is strange for it not to just say apples in the menu or make that clear, as we would have picked another side. They brought us sliced pears and said that was the only fruit they have. So this is $9 for 2 eggs and half an apple at this point. I ordered eggs Benedict. A safe, yummy option at any upscale breakfast place. It arrived with the tiniest serving of hollandaise sauce I've ever had, and the eggs were not just overcooked but nearly to the point of being hardboiled. Like not just barely missing the mark but literally a completely different dish. Just pulling them out of the pot it should have been ridiculously obvious they were not poached correctly. The server apologize and took my plate, leaving me to sit there for another 15 minutes with no food while my companion ate her meal. The replacement while cooked correctly still ranks at the worst eggs Benedict I've ever had. The meat serving was so small it could barely be called a garnish, and again it was this decorative serving of hollandaise that was greasy and just soaked into the english muffin. Yuck. It's served with an unappetizing pile of boring potatoes. I really wish we had just gone to a diner. My companions over medium eggs were cooked hard also. Overall the food quality doesnt come close to matching the price point. It was really disappointing. read more

Johnny's is a great casual neighborhood dining spot. I love it when the weather's warm enough to eat outdoors, and we head over for happy hour. They offer great daily drink and dinner specials, so most evenings they've got a good crowd. We tend to go early just to get a table. The food is dependably good, and the wine and drink offerings varied and interesting. The service is usually quite attentive, and the prices fair. I have come here twice- once for a larger event type luncheon of about 25 people, and once for a lunch with 3 people. Both times I was very happy with my food! The restaurant is in a basement space, so there is not a ton of natural light. Both times I ordered salads and enjoyed them both. They also have a selection of delicious house made cookies at the front, which are great! I thought it was neat that they started our meal with a sweeter pumpkin chocolate chip bread instead of your typical Italian or French loaf. read more

The prices range from fair to kinda pricey depending on what you order. An American-styled restaurant in Roland Park, I was quite pleased. When you walk in there is a display case of pastries to tease your appetite. They started us off with complimentary apple cinnamon bread, and were happy to bring us more when we asked (and said the second serving was also on the house). I had the eggs Benedict with hash browns. The eggs Benedict was perfect, and the hash browns were alright. As we were walking out the door, the server gave us a free red velvet cookie, and it was absolutely amazing. I won't reasonably expect that level of generosity again, but with their tasty food and excellent service, I will happily return. read more
