Maybe it was the fact that I had high expectations based on some of the Yelp reviews, but I thought Plates was just okay. My friend and I were confused how to actually enter the restaurant -- turns out you have to enter Merritt's main doors and the entrance is on the right. We started off with the spanikopita and it was delicious! But our entrees were meh. I think Plates suffers from having too many types of food on their menu, but doesn't execute them that well. Their menu has American, Greek, and Mexican food options, which is a strange mix. I ordered the buffalo burger and my friend ordered the salmon burger. My burger was pretty standard, but the fries were oily and undercooked. And my friend said her salmon was kind of dry and she wished there was some kind of sauce on it. Maybe it's safer to stick with the Greek options since our spanikopita was so tasty.

I visited this restaurant today with two of my coworkers. (Shoutout to Tiffany for the treat) I had never heard of the place before she mentioned it but decided to give it a try anyway. It's tucked away at the Merrit Atheletic Club, so if you don't know about it it would be hard to just stumble across. The restaurant itself was cute, and it was clean. Our main reason for choosing this place was an online special they had for half priced bottles of wine on Wednesdays. (Today is Wednesday) Aaron (who was great by the way) informed us that the special was no longer in affect, hadn't been for a few weeks and pointed to the black board where the new specials were written. We were definitely disappointed since that's why we came there in the first place. We spoke to the owner (Valanti) to inquire about why the website had the special but it wasn't being honored in the restaurant. I showed him his website from my iPad that had the special on it. He then proceeds to email himself from my iPad (without asking) a picture of what I had on my pad. His lack of asking me for permission irritated me as I said "Yes sir you can use my device to email yourself." Sensing my frustration he sat my pad down and went to the back without sending the email. Never once coming back out to address us whether he would honor the special or not. We had to have Aaron call him to see what he had decided, because he left the restaurant. He did not honor what was on his website which was extremely disappointing. I also thought it was cowardly to not deal with us himself. Without the positive attitude of Aaron and the food being plentyful I would have given this a 2 star rating. Honor your specials or TAKE THEM DOWN! Thanks!

I bought the Living Social for this place when I saw the word brunch. I love brunch. I do not love Plates. Thank goodness for the mimosas. Had I realized that this was the place in the gym, I might have skipped the deal altogether. We didn't have reservations, but the place wasn't busy. Still, it took a while to get seated and even longer for the coffee. And they said, they don't have milk - how the heck are they making pancakes without any milk? The menu was appetizing - several styles of Benedict and french toast. Despite the fact that because we were there with a living social, we didn't get to see the full menu, I did get to peruse the abbreviated menu for quite some time while waiting for someone to take our order. I should have realized that a 20 min wait to order isn't a great sign that food will come out quickly. I have to admit that I can get a little hangry when I a waiting for food, but I am not exaggerating. I don't really mind waiting for food as long as it comes out hot... This food did not. I couldn't decide between eggs and pancakes, so I went for both with the Big Bang Thank You Ma'am breakfast - pancakes, eggs, potatoes, bacon, sausage AND toast. It was definitely a hearty breakfast as the menu described - probably not all that heart healthy though. The bacon was the best thing on the plate - truth be told, it's sometimes the best thing on the plate when I love by breakfast. The rest was mostly meh... The potatoes had way to much pepper, the watery eggs were quite bland and the pancakes were dry. My friend wasn't super hungry - but she couldn't turn down the caramelized banana french toast. I don't think she even ate more than one slice - which is kinda surprising, since we are both usually members of the clean plate club. You could clearly see that the egg batter did not fully penetrate the bread. And the bananas were cold, and kinda slimy, basically unpalatable. Blech! I didn't complain while I was there - mostly because they seem to have given us their best. It just wasn't that great. Servers were pleasant, but it's bothersome to me that she brought (and took) the check before she cleared my plate. The gym and the ikeambiance does not have me rushing back.

Man did Plates hit the spot this afternoon! My boyfriend and I wanted to try a new lunch joint in a different neighborhood and couldn't pass up Plates based on other Yelp reviews! Everyone hit the nail on the head. Although the place was deserted when we got there right around noon today, there were several tables filled by the time we left. Our waitress was on point, attentive and friendly! The food.... sooooo good! I had the leg of lamb gyro with tzatziki, tomatoes, onions, and peppers. It was so tender and very flavorful (I got one bite with a whole sprig of rosemary- that woke me up!). It came with the PERFECT fries. Crispy outside, soft inside, already salt and peppered. It's the little things in life, like great french fries that matter most to me! ;) Anyway, my boyfriend devoured his shrimp and crab omelette with home fries as well. So, after a nice cup of coffee and 20% off both plates with a check-in offer, we left with full stomachs and happy souls.

Quick pop in for lunch on my first day and the food is simply delicious. I'm doing away with meat but cheated today and had the Peruvian chicken and I promise I wasn't disappointed. It came highly recommended from new coworkers and im very glad I got to check it out. Bon appetit..

Cute little place tucked away inside the MAC with a great happy hour from 3-7 pm. They were even kind enough to let us order more drinks off the happy hour menu at 7:05 lol. There is a huge selection of beers (89?) and other drinks include $6 sangrias, margaritas etc. There's also a 5 for $5 deal where you can pick from a selection of 5 alcohols (like Jim Bean) and can have it on the rocks, with soda/juice or straight. Basically it's like rail drinks except with nice liquor instead of cheap alcohol. There's also a decent selection of foods on the happy hour menu and an extensive list of burgers and sandwiches on their regular menu. Good food, great drinks and even better service!

I've been here for karaoke on Friday and brunch on Sunday. Karaoke is super fun. Its low key on a Friday night. There are not a lot of people, but it is fun, good music. Brunch was great. I honestly think this place is my number one so far in the DMV for chicken and waffles. It was so filling and they had this egg polenta mixture which was quite tasty. One of my friends had the French toast that was supposed to be with bananas (as the menu stated) but apparently they have not carried that for a few years, Strange. She thought the dish was ok. I also had the bottomless sangria. The sangria was good! But its $15. I wish it could be $10-12 pretty please. I'll be back for sure.

    Duck confit salad- really good!

This place was really good. Everything was really well flavored and well balanced (not overly salty in the soup and the food, which is rare in a restaurant!). We came here on V-day and we got their special. We started off with their corn and crab chowder soup, a nice generous bowl and it was really flavorful but again not too salty, SO good! I also got their stuffed eggplant which was nice and healthy and my husband got their surf and turf, a crabcake with lamb chops- both were really good. I would totally come here again, and it's reasonably priced. I can't believe it's been around for over a year and I never heard about it!

This very intimate and cozy little space is like a really pretty shell you find on the beach. You don't expect to find it, but when you do, it's really beautiful and you're glad you stumbled upon it! First of all the smells coming from the kitchen are intoxicating. Then the waiter starts throwing around terms like "honey Sriracha glaze" and "Wasabi mash potatoes" and you know you've found something exciting to say the least. I settled on the Chicken Gyro with Spinach, feta and orzo on the side; I was not disappointed! It was fantastic, light, but filling, and full of flavor! I will be bringing my friends for happy hour soon because it's so cozy and causal. Over all great place, Great service, Great food......oh....and full bar!!! (did I mention that before lol)

Since it was New Year's eve, there were few patrons or maybe this is the usual scene? Don't know. But there are some comfy couches by the front in which a young couple with a baby was nursing. Another couple was just finishing up dinner and started to head out. We were the only two diners for about 20 minutes before another couple came in for dinner. There were also about two or three people at the bar. So basically a very quiet place. No one at the hostess stand, only a woman at the bar. She eventually sat us and took our order. Things were slow but not so slow that I would complain. I would surmise that most of the staff was off that evening. Food was also slow in coming so there might have been a small crew in the kitchen as well. We ordered the mezze appetizer. Nothing to rave about. It was just a plate with vegetables and hummus. We both got the wagyu burger and fries. The whole meal was quite decent. The meat was cooked to the correct temperature and the fries were crispy. It was quite filling for me. Maybe it was NYE but everything was quiet and nice.

It was a gorgeous day, the first Sunday in January, 2026. We arrived at 11:00 am, when they open, because we wanted to make sure to be ahead of the well documented Sunday brunch crowd. Yeiboh Kitchen does not take reservations (although they do reserve for special parties/events). Yeiboh Kitchen has an intimate outside patio dining area in front for that alfresco experience. When we entered, we were greeted warmly, and waited in comfy chairs for about 10 minutes in the cozy foyer complete with fireplace, before being seated. There was a mix of smooth R&B and mellow Hip Hop flowing on the PA system - and then the DJ set it up, and continued the vibe! The bar, open kitchen, and cheerful wait staff enhanced our anticipation of the food that was in store! We were not disappointed! I had the Jerk Honey Glazed Lollipop Lamb Chops AND Grits! It comes with 3 chops, cooked to your specification. (Medium for me) I was trying to scrape my plate for the last morsel of grits, and suck the Lamb bones, it was so good! The hubby ordered the Deep Fried Salmon and Grits, served with a savory Cajun cream sauce, scallion and tomatoes - and 2, fluffy scrambled eggs! He absolutely loved his meal! We also had the Deep Fried Biscuit Flight. Three biscuits - Salted Caramel Apple, Strawberry Cream, and Banana Pudding - perfectly fried in a way you would not even think they were fried, but for that ever-so light, crispy texture on the crust, and every bite - perfection! I cannot say which biscuit I enjoyed the most - I'll need to visit a few more times to make a determination! For beverages, we had coffee, and I ordered my (usual) mimosa. Our server, "Ms. Sunday," was extremely personable, knowledgeable, and accommodating. The Chef, Mr. Chris Davis, greeted us at our table during the meal, which was a wonderful, elegant touch! He explained about the fried biscuits (without giving away too much!)- and we complimented him on his culinary innovations in the kitchen! The Sunday brunch patrons began to arrive around noon, and by the time we left - close to 1:00pm, it was jumping! If you are in or near Baltimore, or plan to travel to the area soon, please put this restaurant on your list. Parking is at a premium, so if you can, arrive by Uber or Lyft. The experience will be well worth the trip!

After all, it'd been on our radar since Tom Sietsema's 2019 review in the Washington Post but, because it's located a long way from us, we hadn't made the effort. We're so glad we made the trip to Baltimore this past Thursday for what wound up being a magical evening. The staff was exceptional: Eliza and George greeted us warmly ("that's quite the hat!"). George led us to table #4...the perfect choice (thanks Eliza!) as I'd had my eye on that table thanks to web-based interior shots of Charleston. Jocelyn, our Server, was friendly, attentive, and extremely knowledgeable when it came to the daily menu, the evening's specials, and the daunting wine list. It's no wonder Charleston was a 2025 James Beard Foundation award winner for its "Outstanding Wine & Other Beverages Program." Thanks to Jocelyn's Busser, Dionicio, our water glasses were never empty and we had a constant supply of muffins, sourdough, and the best cornbread ever! He was the master of unobtrusive service. Ah, but whatabout the food?! Perfection. Champagne followed by Chef's welcoming sippable soup set the stage for a mix-and-match tasting tour. Potato & Beer soup, Lettuce & Beet salad, and Grilled Tenderloin for me and Zucchini Beignets, Lettuce & Beet salad, and White Truffle Fettuccine for her. All simply confirmed that Chef Wolf and her kitchen staff are at the top of their game. We finished the evening with our complementary desserts (Almond Pound Cake, Cashew & Dark Chocolate Vegan Cheesecake) and coffee. Even the chocolate Macarons, a parting treat, were delicious. Finally, a word about the room. "Calming" comes to mind. Never hurried. Conversation was easy. Very much appreciated nowadays where, even in upper tier restaurants, it's a struggle to hear your tablemates. The major hiccup we experienced was my gluten free lamb shank pasta being sent to the vegetarian sitting at the table next to us. Watching this unfold and the server's exasperated reaction was very awkward. That being said, the manager (or maitre d?)'s graceful handling of the situation thereafter was great. He told us what happened, played it off well, explained that it would be a bit of a wait for our next course as a result, and ended up comping all our wine. Really classy touch. However, even after the long wait for the pasta, it was ultimately under-salted under-seasoned and not impressive at all. As much as I appreciate the gluten free option, I wish I had just gotten something else especially after all that trouble! The rest of the service throughout the night was also oddly paced. We ordered less courses than last year (only three) but we were there for almost four hours. Tables around us who arrived after us were served their first courses before we even had a chance to order. We were asked to pick out a wine first before choosing our food and since we weren't sure what we were eating, we weren't ready to select a wine. Even just getting the food menu took a bit of waiting around. Our server didn't inquire about any food allergies either so it was tough making decisions when I wasn't sure what was gluten free - and this was an allergy that was noted in our reservation, too. At another point, I asked for a glass of red wine three different times until finally the maitre d grabbed it for me after the pasta debacle happened. As for the rest of my meal, the scallops and lobster soup were both yummy but not anything life changing. However, my boyfriend's lamb chop dish was very very delicious. The one bite I had, paired with the pomegranates, was heaven. By the way, they offer gluten free bread service too. Has the Charleston lost their touch after the recent James Beard press? I'm not sure but I do hope they step things back up again. You come to expect a little more from an institution like this, especially after being totally blown away last year.

If you're looking for an experience and are not too afraid you may want to visit Annabel's. I do recommend it and do insist coming after the sun has been well down.

Got together with a few friends for dinner during the holidays and it never disappoints. We stopped in on a Sunday, early evening around 5:30. It was pretty quiet so we were quickly seated at our table. Our server for the evening, Josh was phenomenal. Josh is pretty much knowledgeable about the entire menu and gave us wonderful recommendations from food to cocktails. And answered any questions that we had, I wound definitely sit in his section all the time. I highly recommend. Our table ordered a plethora of entrees, from the Chesapeake Cioppino( a seasfood stew with clams, mussels, rockfish, Maryland crab and fennel), a phenomenal dish and perfect for cold evenings. The Rockfish entree was really delicious and I was blown away with the crispy okra. Definitely a nice touch to the dish. It sits in a goan curry sauce, so delicious. You can never go wrong with their burger. The cracked pepper bacon along with the caramelized onion jam was really good on this burger and it was cooked perfectly, nice and juicy. We also had the Shenandoah lamb and the shrimp and grits, which were not pictured, my friends enjoyed those dishes as well. They have nice cocktail menu as well, all the cocktails are named after songs, such as Like a G6 for example. If you're in the Mount Vernon area of town, stop in and check them out. They also offer brunch and happy hour service as well. You won't be disappointed SYOY I
