We loved celebrating our daughter's induction into Omicron Delta Kappa last night at Towson Tavern! The lovely Ava served us crab cakes, Caesar salad with Ahi Tuna and the Jerk Chicken: all the food was amazing and delicious! Our daughter loved the cream of crab soup, too! Had a late lunch there. Nice large space; but cozy and because it's dark. The bar is long and inviting - I like eating at the bar. Large bar-style menu with some nice twists on classic bar food. Of course the requisite crab-related items; crab bisque, crab cake sandwich, etc.. I had the Jerk chicken BLT recommended by the bartender which was delicious. AND! I can honestly say I had the best sweet potato fries I've ever had in my life. They were crazy good: crispy outside, no grease, fluffy and seasoned in the middle, moist but light. I don't want to go on too long here but I didn't know SPF's could be this good. The beer menu is huge, service was polite and efficient. Prices are fair. Good spot. read more

Saturday 7:58 Server: Brendan I walked around Towson for 15 min before I tried this warm and inviting restaurant. It didn't have a funny smell in the waiting area and the HEAT was on. My wingman and I were seated immediately and Brendan brought us over some water. I needed a minute to look at the menu since it was my first time. I was pleased to see the comfort food appetizers and Brendan recommended Thai chili shrimp and crab dip. I added a glass of Pinot noir and Brendan made sure I kept my cup filled. This restaurant has really cozy seating and sofas that face a TV for the games near the bathroom. It's also attached to the theater next door. Went here after a movie with my friends. Chris was our server. He was attentive and allowed us to have time to talk and hang out which was really what we wanted. We all had drinks, some of us had apps, some full meals (the chicken parm was on restaurant week) and some desserts. All in all food and experience was great. Will be back again read more

Mother's Day bait and switch! The restaurant took our reservation for Mother's Day showing menu service. My wife and kids are particular eaters so this was perfect as everyone could get what they wanted. Upon arrival they told us it was a buffet only and "You are free to leave no worries if that does not work". It was Mother's Day and clearly there were no other spots with open tables. We looked. It did not work dining for sure. My wife was limited to some fruit and half a bagel. My kids the same. They billed us $42 pp for a lackluster buffet that I would never have booked except for the fact that it was MD and well, nothing else had openings. We watched table after table leave which we just didn't have an option. I ended up paying $200 for three plates of fruit, some pastries and half a bagel. I was able to make mine work but it was again, not a spectacular showing even under buffet standards. Businesses should be more mindful of the impact messing with families on a day like Mother's Day would have. I would have taken free drinks, offer to make something off the menu knowing we were eating basically nothing, I mean anything would have been more appreciated than what happened. The GM (I believe) was standing over us as we sat by the podium while we talked about this the whole time. He never even blinked. Overall, we have options and this won't be a future one. read more

I hadn't been to the Towson Tavern in awhile so when I was looking around for a quick bite before a movie, the Tavern came to mind. It was easy to make a last minute reservation and my table was ready when I arrived. My party of four was greeted promptly by Henry who flashed a razzle dazzle smile and immediately began taking drink orders. We all decided to share entrees and some apps, and were pleasantly surprised when our food arrived already split on separate plates. So nice! Thanks, Henry! The Pistachio Crusted Goat Cheese appetizer was delicious and plentiful. Even four of us couldn't finish it all. The chicken lettuce wraps were good, not great, but we did finish it off. The Towson Burger was really, really good. It was cooked just as I asked (no pink) and it had a special sauce that was very tasty. The prices here are extremely reasonable for a white linen ambiance restaurant. Five star service by Henry and excellent food. We even made it to our movie on time. read more

I went Sunday morning at 10 am when the doors opened with three friends of mine. The ambience was warm and inviting. There were plenty of booths and tables with a long bar off to the side with TVs on the wall. I was expecting their brunch on Sunday morning to be delicious. Boy was I wrong. All the options on the menu sounded so good. My friend ordered the smoked salmon plate. The server informed her they were out of smoked salmon. Now we were the first patrons there. How is it possible they are already out of smoked salmon. I ordered the breakfast burrito for $9 and added steak which made it $12. The coffee that came out came in a dirty mug. There was something dark I flicked off the top of rim of the cup. I still drank the coffee which was awfully bitter. The fruit that I got as a side option was just ok, nothing special. The burrito looked appetizing. Sadly it was just the appearance. Totally superficial. There was absolutely no flavor in it whatsoever. No seasoning to be found. My steak was hammered! I couldn't eat it. I got a doggy bag and yes it went to the dogs. I asked the ladies about their food and they said the thing. My one friend said her crab omelette was dried up. The eggs were way over cooked in the oven. And she found a minuscule amount of crab. All of us were laughing because this is a possibility of trying a new place. You just never know. I honestly cannot recommend this place nor will be returning. Our server was super nice so a shout out to him. Why wasn't the food delivered by our waiter, who was in much better spirits than the hostess, who clearly doesn't care or want to be there. The appetizers were very good when finally received. Then it was another 20 min wait for the entrees. Also delived by miss sunshine the hostess, even though the waiter brought the utensils. The duck was very good, but the apple slaw was odd, crunchy and bland. The wife's steak was good, but the al dente broccoli was so undercooked that you could barely cut it with a steak knife. The potatoes were well seasoned and good. Dessert appeared at a good time by our waiter. The raspberry lemon dessert was the star. The cheesecake was plain and bland even with the puree provided. In all the food is hit or miss and service is disorganized. The waiter was friendly and nice, why wasn't he the one bringing the food to his table? The hostess made a bad impression and even when we left, the monotone voice clearly screamed she didn't care. Please fire the hostess and put her out of her misery. In addition the kitchen staff either needs help or needs to know urgency as waiting 30 minutes for appetizers is entirely too long. The restaurant is more bar focused than restaurant with tight booths and small tables thrown about to fit maximum customers, however the kitchen can't keep up. The atmosphere is of a old and tired looking bar. It needs to be lightened up and updated. So, if the restaurant wants to sell itself as an upscale restaurant in its costly meal prices, it needs to remodel and reinvest in itself from looks to efficiency and customer service. I hope the next time I visit, things will improve, otherwise I will walk out and not come back during the wait for appetizers. read more

Out of all the restaurants participating in Restaurant Week, we decided to come to the Towson Tavern. They offered a very comprehensive and delicious menu for the most reasonable price of $35.00 per person. Our only disappointment was to find out that the dining room was not open due to a private party and that we had to sit in the bar/dining area which can be really noisy. A suggestion to reduce the noise is to install glass or plastic partitions between the booths. We were warmly greeted by our server, Steve, who set the upbeat mood for the evening. He was attentive and friendly. My husband started with a glass of Dark Horse Chardonnay. We ordered a bottle of 19 Crimes, a red blend, which was robust with a smooth finish. Brandon, the chef, stopped by to say Hello, and we told him how much we were looking forward to the menu he presented for Restaurant Week. For our appetizers, we chose the Creamy Garlic Butter Shrimp. There were 3 jumbo shrimp that had been sauteed in Creamy Garlic Butter over fresh French Bread. Wow, we were off to a great start. My husband order the 12 oz. New York Strip prepared medium rare, finished with a garlic butter sauce, and served with asparagus. He asked Steve to switch out the Truffle fries for the garlic mashed potatoes. The strip was a generous portion with great flavor. I had my eye on the Braised Lamb Shank which was slow cooked, finished with Lamb Jus, and served over garlic mashed potatoes and a vegetable medley. The lamb shank was enormous and beyond delicious. I could not eat it all. I have lunch for tomorrow. For our sweet ending, we had a Red Velvet Cake and a Chocolate Cake, both scrumptious. Had an event (85th surprise birthday party) at Towson Tavern on a Saturday night-- it was a great experience! Their semi- private room was spacious: it easily accommodated 35 people, a buffet setup, and appetizer & dessert tables. The decor was classy and upscale, and we couldn't even tell the tavern/bar portion was so nearby. Sean was our contact person and made the process very smooth. He was easy to get ahold of, communicating through phone, text and emails. The party planning was on a rather short timeline, and fortunately he didn't need an exact headcount until the day before (which was great, considering the amount of late RSVPs we had). The food was great-- the appetizers included some really solid crab dip (which we're very picky about: Baltimore!) , hummus platter and fried Brussels. The buffet has several salads, sides and meat options available-- everyone was pleased. The lone vegan got a special plate prepared (the chef had called in advance to discuss it!!). They allowed us to bring in our own desserts. Our servers (Steve and Spike?? Sorry can't remember) were attentive and friendly, easily managing drink orders from 35 people who were mingling and moving around the room. They really helped throughout the event, from pre party set up to the wind-down clean up and gift roundup. The parking garage was down the street a bit (tickets were validated) and street parking was nonexistent (Towson... it's busy and the TT is right on York). But there was a door leading directly into the semi private room, allowing for guest drop-off directly from the side street-- really important considering the number of senior guests attending. Have gone to this tavern a couple of times for after work happy hours. Typically very quiet and pleasant. This is probably because this location isn't frequented by Towson students. The happy hour specials are usually pretty good. I like the Pineapple Express (gives martini vibes). They had a seasonal drink called the pear gingerita a that is made from a house made gingercello. It was actually a pretty refreshing drink - didn't necessarily give me winter vibes per se, but good none the less. A little sweet but tasty. Service was pretty decent. We went on a Thursday night and there was one server. Pretty attentive and was able to serve people quickly. read more

OMG! We went tonight for dinner and the new BBQ flatbread appetizer is delicious! We also had the Halibut fish main dish which was great!!

Drinks were amazing. Scallops were cold. Service was wonderful. A bit overpriced imo.

After an hour in a half, we came to learn that not only our food was late, it straight up wasn't coming. They ran out of all fish for the night. Surprisingly my calamari was not included in this massacre of an experience. I went home only to find my calamari improperly fried, breading falling off, and overall not good. I didn't even eat it, we ended up eating leftovers from last nights dinner at a friends house. Also this isn't a service issue, they had one guy running the entire place. Visited Towson Tavern last Sunday for brunch. I went with one of my best friends and it was our first time going. The inside was very cozy and had an "old timey" feel to it. We sat close to the door but I think it was much bigger than it looks in the back. The artwork was really cool too. We came with the intention of ordering french toast and chocolate chip pancakes so we immediately put in an order for that. The french toast was very good. It was moist and perfectly cooked. The pancakes were definitely too dry. Not as moist and delicious as the french toast which caused us to have to use A LOT of syrup and some butter. They also did not have as many chocolate chips as I was expecting so it was almost like eating a plain pancake, which is gross in my opinion. The service was decent. It took them like 30 minutes to bring us our food and there were not a lot of people there. Overall, the meal was average, as was the experience. I might go back again to try something else but will definitely be trying a new brunch spot next time. read more

Yelp Fam ! Had the pleasure of going back to my old college stomping ground over the weekend in Towson. Go Tigers A group of us met up at the Towson tavern for a few drinks late Saturday evening. It was very open so we had the place to ourselves mostly. Our Bartender who I forget his name.... was Awesome, each drink I had was great. 1st Drink- - Manhattan Makers Mark Very good, strong pour of makers , Classic cocktail Drink 2- - Sazerac My first time getting this cocktail, it was Great and I'd drink it again. I will actually Drink 3- ⁉- no idea , he made a drink of his own creation. I'm not sure what was I. It but it was delicious.( the pinkish drink) We were going to get food but the kitchen closed at 10pm. Overall Towson Tavern has shown they know how to do cocktails. I can't thank the Owner of the Towson Tavern enough for the service and accommodations he made for a group of us yesterday. My wifes mother passed yesterday and after saying our farewells the family who had come in from NY and Va to be there wanted to have an impromptu Irish wake to celebrate her life. The owner set us up with a table for 7 and a staff member named "Spike" who just flat rocked it on the service. Spike you truly are a customer service rockstar. We ate our way through the entire "new" appetizer menu, sharing amongst us and let me tell you your new chef nailed it. Never had buffalo calamari before but it's amazing. The scallops, tuna and everything else we spot on!!!! Then we moved on to the dessert menu.... great cheesecake but the show stopper was the carrot cake. Enjoyed a really nice sinner here tonight. I met the Executive Chef at Christmas where he had some sample food out and chatted with him and really found his story inspiring. Deviled Eggs - excellent Tots w dipping sauce ( not on menu ) - excellent My wife Cioppino - excellent. Took the sauce home to put over some pasta the next day. NY Strip - quite good but sorry I ordered the blue cheese, it was a bit overpowering Grilled asparagus - excellent Bread Pudding - was absolutely amazing! You can do valley parking with them, you can also part at the parking garage which is $5 and $2 with validated or you can park at the street for free after 6pm if you lucky enough to find a spot near it. Another recommendation is parking in the mall and walk to this place (mall closes at 9pm Monday - Saturday). About this place, it was a nice place and the people was very nice. The food may come a bit slow but it was okay. I was there with a big group and we were mostly at the bar station so there was not much thing to complain. This place is small compared to many restaurants around. I didn't order food but calamari and couple drinks while I was there with friends. I have to say the food was really good. I got a Steak Salad and my husband got the Tavern Burger. My salad was filled with allot of good stuff including avocado. The steak had a good taste and red wine dressing was a great. The reason for the 4 stars instead of 5 is because there is no parking. We had to pay for parking and then walk a block to get there. To some people that is no biggie but I just wanted to throw it out there in case people thought they could pull up and park easily. read more

I am astounded at the number of 5 star reviews of this restaurant, because our experience was one of the worst I can remember . I always try to give restaurants the benefit of the doubt, since every place has a bad day occasionally with respect to either food or service, but there's no excuse for both. Our party of two adults and two children came for dinner from out of state. The restaurant booths were full, so we sat at one of four empty tables near the door. The other three tables filled up shortly after we sat down. It took a while for anyone to come over and he then took our drink orders. We asked for water all around and a Diet Coke. We then waited. And waited. And waited. When I asked someone, he assured us someone would be right over with the drinks. After a while, I noticed that someone had placed a tray with four glasses of water on the bar across from our table, but nobody arrived to bring it to us until some 10 minutes later. When the waiter finally took our orders, he left and then returned to inform us that they were out of one appetizer and one entree we had ordered. It was only 6:30. So we selected other items. Meanwhile, we noticed that the people at the other tables who sat after us, had been served long before us. My French onion soup was mediocre in taste, and contained no toasted bread . My daughter's mussels appetizer didn't arrive until after we finished our main courses, so we sent it back. My granddaughter's meal was brought by a different server after another long wait, lukewarm and with a different pasta than what she had ordered. When she mentioned it, the server looked puzzled and insisted that that was the pasta it came with. We told her we were specifically told the type of pasta by the first server and sent it back. We were told they had to make it from scratch so it would be a little while. When it finally came, it had hardly any sauce and what there was , was brownish and my granddaughter said, tasteless. My daughter's and my main courses, also pasta dishes with a variety of shellfish, arrived while we were still eating our starters, without an excuse or apology. The food was almost cold, many of the mussels were unopened, peppers and tomatoes were soggy and tasteless, the broth was almost nonexistent, and the fettuccine it came with, was mixed with linguine. I really would have made an issue with management but there was nobody to be found and we had children with us. I will never go back. read more

Worst experience we've had at any restaurant. They served us frozen bread. Mussels were rank! Short ribs were horrible and looked like they had been under the heat lamp for a while. Came here for a graduation lunch with my roommate and her family! As starters we ordered the Chesapeake dip, Thai mussels, buffalo brussel sprouts, steak enchilada, and flatbread. Unfortunately, they had not gotten their mussels yet for the day and we weren't able to get this dish so we ended up getting the steak enchiladas. But, the chef was kind enough to make Thai shrimp for us as a substitute on the house! So kind and so delicious. I'm not sure if this is something they have on the menu since the chef specially made it for us, but wow. The sauce reminded me of coconut curry, really tasty and the shrimp were really fresh. I was not disappointed by any of the dishes and really enjoyed the meal. We each ordered an entree for lunch as well and I ordered the B.A.L.T. I am a huge BLT lover and this did not disappoint! They use guac for their avocado rather than slices and holy crap, it really makes the difference. My only downside would be that I don't love big toast because its hard to eat, but that's just a personal preference. However, I didn't mind it because it was just that dang good. Also, their hand cut fries? Out of this world. I gave this place a 5/5 because not only was the food absolutely delicious and impeccable, the interior was beautiful, and the hospitality was really phenomenal. I can't begin to tell you what a great evening we had at Towson Tavern. Today is the first day in months that restaurants could accommodate guest due to the pandemic. Bravo to the team at Towson Tavern!! Our server, Emilee, was just a delight and busted her butt for us and her other tables. They have a new celebrity chef, Brigitte, who cooked us up some deliciousness. I was partial to her Southern cuisine and had the most delicious fried chicken with Mac and Cheese and corn on the cob. My partner had a burger which was seasoned perfectly and French fries, crisp to perfection. I'm very happy with the hard work, professionalism and welcoming vibe from everyone.
