We were here last weekend to soak up some local ambiance and check in with the Jerry D. crowd which is Oh so similar (& yet different) from the Racers crowd across the street. On a Friday, if you arrive at 5pm the bar is already full. This appears to be a popular spot with tradefolk clocking out early to get some liquid refreshment. Great place. Great deals. My aunt and I had our nails done close buy and a lady suggested this place for us to have lunch. The front entrance is street parking. Make sure you have change because it is not a meter that accepts card payment. I decided to park on the back lot. You had to enter the lot thru Taylor Avenue. It was a little after noon when we stopped in. We entered in the rear entrance. You had to walk down just a couple of steps. We were greeted as soon as we entere. A few people were sitting at the bar. My aunt doesn't like sitting on bar stools so we sat at the regular tables. We were the only ones in the actually dining area. Our waitress was very polite. She made us aware of the specials. We both ordered a long island iced tea. I chose the shrimp salad wrap which came with a chip and pickles and I asked for hots on the side. My aunt ordered the cheese steak with chips and a pickle. Im not sure what those restaurant is like at night but, arriving a little after noon was great. We went to Jerry D's as it was half-priced burger night, and we were craving some good cheeseburgers. I had called Jerry D's yesterday for a 5:30 pm reservation. When we arrived, there was no table reserved for us. Frankly, this is not the first time a reservation has "disappeared" at Jerry D's. (If you do make a reservation, it is wise to call again on the day of to confirm they have it.) The dining room was almost full, but we did find an open table. Sitting down, we immediately noticed that Jerry D's was short of waitstaff. Only Carl, the manager, and one waitress were waiting on tables. And, it looked like a lot of people were waiting to place their orders or to be served. About 10 minutes after we arrived, Carl came by and said he would be back shortly. After another 10 minutes, we decided to leave, recognizing that one waitress cannot serve a full dining room by herself. On the way out, Carl asked us why we were leaving. We told him he did not have enough waitstaff, and we felt we would not get our food anytime soon. Being short of waitstaff seems to be a common problem at Jerry D's. read more

We weren't too sure if we were entering the right place, a huge brown door that looks like it belongs in a scary movie. So we opened it and it was the bar portion. Whew! We walked to the back into a spacious dining room, beautifully decorated and lots of natural knotty pine on the ceiling. Truly well done, and the ambiance there gave a homey feel. Some of the tabletops were cross sections of huge tree trunks. A nice touch. The menu was not overly ambitious. Simply breakfast and lunch. And there are daily specials. Our server, Cara, was well skilled and took care of the whole dining room with ease. Drinks and ordering were quick. My husband got the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and gravy. The potatoes were real potatoes and not the packaged type. I ordered the open faced hot turkey sandwich, and it came with fresh cut fries. I love fresh cuts. They made my day! Good food, good service, and the kicker was very reasonable priced meals, enough to take and enjoy again. The kitchen was quick and accurate. Everything was hot and fresh. We got out of there with 2 entrees and a soft drink for $21 and change, including tax. There was a larger group near us, and I loved to see all the dishes coming their was, I can say it was impressive. They do have an upper floor with tables and chairs, probably for parties. We were a bit unsure about where to park, so we parked at the corner on a lot in front of a crab house. The lady at the bar inside of JD' s Saloon said it was ok to park there. Arrived to an empty dining room on Friday just before 5p. I paid for 1hr 15min of parking and set an alarm for the meter. There was one couple in front of us and still had to wait almost 10 min to be seated in the empty dining room. It took 20 min after being seated for the server to take our drink order. The dining room filled up around us. We ordered a cup of crab soup and soft crab sandwich, and a garden salad with a club sandwich and fries. We got our soup and salad when I noticed that the tables which had all been seated after us were getting to-go boxes for the food they had been served. Then my alarm went off for the parking meter indicating that we had been sitting there for 1hr 15min and had only received the soup and salad. I asked the server what was going on as we had been there over an hour. She said our food was ready. Both sandwiches were cold and the fries were cold and soggy. The soft crab also looked disgusting. The servers seemed to be working very hard but were inattentive to the fact that we had been over looked. We left without eating the food. Very disappointed. Will not be going back. read more

Every few weeks or so, some friends and I visit local joints, quintessential to the Baltimore experience. There are usually four of us and it was my turn to pick the destination and I selected Jerry D's. The room, the mood, the food and service make the spots we have visited to this point unique. Three of the four of us arrived and were promptly seated and started off with draft and bottled beers. The former, $3. The latter $3.25. Not yesteryear prices but pretty darn impressive! Two of us ordered bacon cheeseburgers with small Caesar salads to start , and the other chicken and Murphy fries which have been a house staple for years! Long story short, the burgers were fresh and tasty and the chicken with the fries was 9.95. Burgers? 8.95! Fries in lieu of chips? Just 2.00! Have to go with one star because it was that bad. I know it's not a 5 star restaurant, but you're still paying for the food and service. New owners had very low bar to reach and couldn't pulling off. Waited 10 minutes to be waited on. 3 at table. I'll comment on my experience. My meal was simple. Cheeseburger/medium with Murphy fries on side. Took forever for food to arrive. Different server brought it. I realize the side of Murphys are fries and I keep trying to see our waitress. Couldn't get anyone and place wasn't that busy. Start eating, fries were soggy, burger well done and quite small. Finally waitress comes and to her credit offers to recook a burger but by then I ate most of it and didn't feel right. Why ask how you want burger cooked if the kitchen can't pull it off ? The topper was, ordered desert. Always enjoy their pineapple sundaes. They come in a tall bar glass and are totally delicious and generous serving. This arrives in a shallow bowl. I mean barely any ice cream. Pineapples piled to the side and the entire bowl covered in whip cream. We'd been going to other local restaurants but since Jerry's changed hands we decided to try it. Won't go back. I will preface my review by stating that I have never had prime rib in my life, but damn was this a good meal. We met some friends at Jerry D's for dinner. It is a very cozy and friendly environment. The menu is pretty diverse for a small venue. Between the 4 of us, we had 2 appetizers consisting of coconut shrimp and steamed mussels. They both were good portions and properly prepared. I got the Fish and Chips, which consisted of 5 nice size portions of battered fish and fries plus cole slaw. My friends got the Hot Turkey Sandwich and the Shrimp Salad Sandwich. Both were loaded and very filling. My wife got a Soft Crab Sandwich. The soft crab was of good size. The prices are very reasonable and I will be heading there every other week from now on. read more

I had high hopes for this restaurant based on the reviews. However, my experience was subpar at best. My Mom and I came here for lunch on a Tuesday. When we arrived the bar area was pretty full, however, the dining room had only one other table occupied. There was one server and the owner was holding court in the bar area. Our server was pleasant. My Mom ordered the 8 oz crab cake, French fries and a salad ($32) with a draft Coors Light beer. Her beer was cool and fresh. I ordered the 4 oz crab cake ($16) and a bowl of MD crab soup with a Diet Coke. My soda was in a can versus a fountain soda. No big deal, just a surprise. I prefer fountain sodas. Our food took approximately 30 minutes to arrive. In the meantime, 8 other tables were occupied. The server was by herself with no help from the owner. Service at that point was very slow. Again, not a big deal but if your are trying to have a quick lunch, this is not the place to. I never received my soup, our crab cakes were very salty and full of filler. It was the worst crab cakes we've eaten in Maryland. The French fries were limp and not very hot. The salad was a nice portion and was very fresh. The blue cheese dressing was mediocre. I wasn't able to get our server's attention to ask about the soup I ordered. After tasting the other food, I decided I probably wasn't missing anything. If you want to hang at a bar and have a cold beer, this is the place for you. If you want a nice meal, go somewhere else. read more

This place needs an upgrade. It's worth the 5 stars rating, but isnt a 5star Michelin, so if you are coming bring your local bonnet hat. The crowd here keeps to thier pods, but if you are chattie, they oblige. It is a wonderful place for locals, but it needs a revamp. For covid, the bartender was wearing two masks and scolded someone for grabbing something out of their area without a mask on. "Sir, if you leave your area, you need to wear the mask." Dive-y local place with locals kind of vibe. I had the steak and cake with garlic butter Brussels sprouts. The crab cake was really good - Lots of lump crab and very little filler. The steak was a nice size but obviously Rare is not in the chef's vocabulary... my steak wasn't even medium and my husband's medium-rare steak was closer to well. Asked for extra mayonnaise for my sandwich, got a container of sour cream which I realized after I tried it. Had it sent back indicating it wasn't mayonnaise. They brought back another container only to find out it was the original sour cream that had been sent back. When wait staff was confronted about why it had not been discarded and it being a health code violation, wait staff gave me a whole lot of mouth and attitude. Not good customer service at all. My husband and I regularly visit Jerry D's. We recently ordered the crab cake platter, 3/4 lb hot dog, fries, salad a few apps and everything was amazing. Super laid back atmosphere, but attentive service. Food is always hot, always good, never a regret for ordering. The cheesecake is KILLER good and the slice is large. The sundaes are amazing as well as the Italian lemon cake. It's a great go to place for a large dinner or a snack on a late night. read more

This is a small divey restaurant/saloon/bar on the corner of Harford Rd and Taylor Avenue. I came here with my parents who have eaten here a few times with their friends. Apparently, this place has been here for a very long time, so I was surprised when I didn't see a lot of reviews for their food. There is a banquet hall on the second floor, and then the bar area is separated from the restaurant area on the lower level. From what I am told, it's also a meeting location for a local Ravens Roost fan club The prices are very reasonable, and low actually given that they serve seafood. It was recommended to try the shrimp salad, but I chose the Bison burger instead. I was quite surprised to see a Bison burger for only $8.00, so when I saw that, I had to get it. The bison burger was actually pretty decent, and not burnt as other reviews have complained about. Of course, I always get my burgers cooked medium. My mother got the shrimp salad platter, and yes, I did try some of the shrimp salad, and thought it was pretty good as well. Again, the prices were less than $10, and was quite surprised at the amount of shrimp salad, and how good it tasted. My step-father got the meatloaf platter and that portion was huge. The demographics here seem to lean toward older folks, and maybe that's why the prices are so reasonable, but the food wasn't bad. I would recommend pulling into the parking lot off of Taylor Avenue, as there is plenty of parking there and then you can walk in the back. I would not try and park on Harford Rd somewhere. I would probably come back here again in the future, and would recommend people in the area try this place out. read more

Before Friday, 03 AUG 2018, I'd never heard of Jerry D's Saloon. I was with a large group of family/friends that went here after my mother's funeral at Morelands. I was pleasantly surprised, not really expecting much. I got the steak & crab cake. The steak was excellent, the crab cake, except for a few fragments of shell, was tasty. All in all not too bad. I went to Jerry D's based on the other reviews here. Glad I did. I went on Valentines Day. It was a full house but no wait. The atmosphere was warm and friendly, sort of the Cheer's of restaurants. I ordered a bowl of Md. crab soup and a whole lobster with 2 sides. It was a real bargain at thirteen bucks. My dinner companion got the Md. crab soup and the steak and crabcake combo. The soup was wonderful. Chock full of crab meat and veggies. It was on par with my Dad's crab soup and that's no easy task. The lobster arrived nice and hot with a bowl of drawn butter. Not a little dipping pot of butter, I mean a bowl of butter. They must have melted a whole stick of it. Ummmmm. The fresh brocoli was cooked done, soft but not mushy. The potato was ok, how great can a baked potato get? The only complaint was the lack of a lobster bib. I went home with a few butter stains on my shirt. My boyfriend's steak was cooked to his satisfaction and he reported the crabcake was very good. He also noted that the gravy on his mashed potatoes was excellent. The waitress was spot on with refills and checking up on us. Even though it was a busy night we never felt rushed. My boyfriend commented to her on how much he like the restaurant and she must have said something to the owner. He made a point of coming over and thanked us for the compliment and said he was glad everything was to our liking. To sum it up, it's a nice clean, friendly, homey place. A little worn around the edges but that only enhances the comfort level. The food was good, well prepared and served by friendly attentive servers. The prices are great. This place is a staple of Parkville, and has great food for prices that can't be beat. They have a really good wing platter for $6. The Murphy fries with gravy will stick to you're ribs. Be sure to order some hot sauce to dip your wings in. Now the few downsides is that its not great for kids. No kids menu, and no kids drinks, it wouldn't hurt to have kids drinks available, juice boxes or something. However some of the items on the menu have such large portions that they can be split between the kids, so that's a plus. Watch out for the sodas too, last couple of times they've been flat. Service is good, and the owner seems to walk around and greet everyone. This place is very friendly, and you Definitely get your bang for your buck with the portion sizes. read more
